Why Arizona Diamondbacks’ Ketel Marte is ‘not untouchable’ when it comes to trade offers
And I’ve been asked a lot about Catel Marte and I I had a lot of discussions with the organization and I’m going to tell you exactly what I said. It’s not because somebody said, “Is this clickbait?” You know, Mark McCloon putting out there that Hazen’s received calls on Marte. No, it’s not clickbait. Catel Marte is not untouchable. Now, are they looking to trade him? No. But if somebody call, hey, I’ll trade you Scooble for him. I’ll trade you Paul Skins for him. It would take a like a lot to get Catel Marte. Arizona is very desperate for frontline starting pitching because Gallon’s a free agent. Kelly’s a free agent. You’re probably going to trade both of those guys. Corbin Burns isn’t going to be here next year. They’re desperate. How do you get frontline starting pitching? You’re probably not going to be able to get it in free agency. So, you’re saying, “Okay, it’s going to be a trade.” You’re not trading Gallon on a rental for frontline starting pitching or Kelly or Suarez. You’re not trading Suarez and getting back a number two starting pitcher that’s going to be in your rotation for the next five years. There’s no chance. There’s no chance. So, the only way to get frontline starting pitching would be if you traded somebody of more value. That would be a Catel Marte. Not trading Corbin Carroll. Um, but I’m not saying they’re trading Catel Marte. I’m just telling people he is not untouchable. If somebody calls with a great offer for Catel Marte that includes starting pitching, that’s frontline starting pitching. You’ve got to consider it. You’d be stupid not to.
Arizona Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen said “any outcome is on the table,” following the team’s trade of first baseman Josh Naylor to the Seattle Mariners on Thursday evening. Gambo says that for the true haul Ketel Marte is not “untouchable” when it comes to trade offers.
