MLB LIVE🔴 Tampa Bay Rays vs Cincinnati Reds – Jul 25, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

with Chris Singleton. I’m John Sh. The first half of the All-Star break is behind us and partner, it’s go time in the second half. And if you want to be playing meaningful games at the end of September, you got to put your head down and grind for the next eight weeks. It’s the Tampa Bay Rays going up against the Cincinnati Reds. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. Just about ready to go on the mound for the Reds, Brady Singer. And Singy, we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. Well, it hasn’t been a great year so far in terms of ERA, but he’s had some decent games and there have been some flashes of greatness, if you will. We’ll see today if he’s able to get ahead of hitters and perhaps get some swings and misses, put himself in a position to bring that ERA down because, you know, in the back of his mind beyond the W, he wants to have a better earn run average. Next offering is fouled back. [Applause] [Music] Oh, that got him. First batter of the game is hit by the pitch. Yandi Diaz now. Runner takes off. Pitch is high. Transfer bobbled and there’s no throw. And that is downstairs and the count is 2 and 0. Runner at second. Nobody out. Next pitch is downstairs. And there’s the automatic. [Applause] That one finds the zone and now three and two. And boy, that was the pitch. 3-1. You want to be really aggressive on the fast ball. That one down the line and that’s just foul. No outs. Runner on second. And ball four to a board. Now, this was a story we were paying attention to before the game. We’ve seen him give up walks in the past. It’s an issue once again early on. First and second, no outs. And stepping in for the Rays, Jonathan Aranda. in for a strike and it’s 0 and one. First and second here, no outs. [Applause] And that’s pushed foul off to the left and out of play. [Applause] That one just misses and it’s one and two. Well, as a pitcher, when you make a big pitch down around the knees and don’t get the call, it’ll lead at you out there. So, some handle it a little bit better than others. And right here, clearly letting the ump hear it a little bit. Foul ball still a one and two count. No outs. Ruers at first and second [Music] ground ball and that’s through the infield. Round’s third headed for the plate. He’ll score. Well, there you go. The RBI machine. Another clutch run scoring at bat. Yeah, he’s been so good in these situations. Call it clutch if you want, but his resume speaks for itself. Junior Camroero getting ready to hit [Applause] [Applause] grounder might be two out a second. They get one and two in time to first for the double play. That was a much needed double play right there. Gives him a really good shot at minimizing any further damage in this inning. And now Josh Low. [Applause] Right through there for a strike. Diaz at third with two away [Applause] and he grounds one to the right side. Mlan whips it to first. That ends the inning and they limit the damage, but they pick up one run on the RBI single. It’s now a one- nothing ball game. Back here in Cincinnati and today’s starter, Shane Bos. Oh, you can see his whip is a little above the league average. Not bad, but I think in this one he’s going to need to control that a little bit better. try to limit hitters from getting on base. Stay in that windup instead of the stretch. And when he does allow base runners be able to throw a pitch, he’s going to get a swing and miss, get out of the inning so that a base hit doesn’t do more damage and put his team behind the eightball. And there’s a foul ball. Boss, the 6-2 righty. He features a fourseam fast ball, a slider, a curve, and he works in a change up and a swing and a miss. No ball, two strike. [Music] That’s off the mark. One and two to count. [Music] [Music] Good eye right there. Really close pitch down around the knees there. And you could see him asking where it missed. Probably doesn’t agree, but it appears he’s ready to move on to the next pitch. [Applause] Pop dump. And there’s one down. Here’s the lineup for the Reds. This an offense, Chris, that’s having a hard time scoring runs right now. Yeah, sometimes things just aren’t going to click. And unfortunately, what happens is players press, they try to do a little bit more, and they get out of their game. You’ve got to let the game come to you. If you chase it, it’s going to run from you. So, this is a team that just needs to calm down, relax, and understand that they’re going to come out of this. Matt Mlan stands in here, leaves that one off the inside. Foul ball. Go. And that’s in the dirt. And it’s two and one. One out. Base is empty. That one misses. And that’s ball three. Three ball. One strike. [Applause] He can do it. He can do it. Hit on the ground to the right side and foul ball. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. try to go again with a fast ball slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Runs it up to 96 to record the punch out. Batting third. Two out. Base is empty and ready to hit now for Cincinnati. Ellie Dea Cruz. Top of the zone for a called strike. Slider misses outside. Two outs. Base is empty. [Music] And that drops in for a strike. Two balls, two strikes. Cincinnati. Just off the outside corner and it’s a full count. [Music] Swing and a miss. D struck him out. Three up, three down. Inning over. Nobody left for Cincinnati. And it remains one- nothing. Back here at Great American Ballpark. Top of the second. Now up for Tampa Bay. Hassan Kim. That one finds the zone. Strike one. [Applause] This one in the air. Mlan and it’s caught for the out. Boy, that was a hanging breaking ball right there. I think he tried to do a little bit too much. Sometimes those eyes can get really big. I think his swing broke down as well and that’s what caused him to pop it up. Christopher Morell next to hit for the Rays. You can do it. Come on. And first offering is fouled off and there’s a rocket into the outfield. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Danny Jansen to hit here. First pitch and he just misses. [Music] Oh, now let’s turn two. [Applause] [Music] Lifted in the air right center field. Freley makes the grab for the second out. batting ninth, shortstop, Taylor Wall. So, next to the plate for Tampa Bay, Taylor Walls singing he’s never finished the season with more stolen bases in his entire career. Pitch misses inside. Ball one. That one missed. Ripped to short to first and he beats it. Everyone’s safe. Maybe just a little lack of concentration on that throw. Two out. You think you’ve got the play made. Players are starting to move off the field towards the dugout and then everyone’s got to come back. Sometimes you take that throw for granted and that’s all it takes to keep the inning going. So the Rays batting order turns over. Here’s the Rays leadoff hitter hit in the air center field and that is that. So the Rays strand a pair but they lead it one to nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. And here is Austin Hayes. Austin Hayes. And here it comes. And that’s off the inside edge. And that’s ball one. [Music] And a foul ball. That’s a little bit low. Two balls, one strike. [Applause] And he chases a high fast ball there. Threw that fast ball right by him. Slightly elevated. That’s a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound. See if he continues to climb the ladder. Fans another. And that’s three straight strikeouts. Boi just ran out of patience there. He took a couple of pitches to even that count up. Two balls and two strikes, but that time chased outside the zone. And now it’s Gavin Lux. Let’s goav. This one in the air. Jansen. Two away. Good hard fast ball up in the zone right there. They look really good coming in, but so hard to get on top of as a hitter. So digging in, Spencer Steer. Let’s go. This one in the air. Center field in position. Makes the grab and that’ll end the inning. We played two innings. It’s one to nothing. On to the third inning. Now it’s going to be Yandi Diaz. Yandi Diaz. Singer back to work. Slider right there. No ball, one strike. And that misses and it’s one and one. And he swings through that one. Clearly was sitting on a fast right there and just ended up out in front of the slider. Hey, you can’t fault him for his commitment. Now he’s just going to have to battle two strikes. This one popped up. Puts it away for the out. Now batting the first baseman, Jonathan Aranda. Jonathan Aranda now at the plate. Singled and drove in a run his first time through. Cincinnati. That one finds the corner. And that is strike one. Five. [Music] That clips the corner. One ball, two strikes. That missed by a lot. And the count now even up. Let’s go. Swinging a ground ball up the middle. Got him on the offbalance throw. First two batters retired here in the top of the third. That’s what a good sinker is designed to do. Get a guy to roll over a little bit. Hit the ball on the ground. Kill some worms while you’re at it. Two down, base is empty. Junior Camroero next to hit for the Rays. 0 for one so far. And that’s in for a strike. Next offering is outside. [Music] Swing and a high-fly ball right field. Squeezes it. And that’s the third out. And we’re back. Bottom of the inning. Leading off. Nov Mart. Noelv Marte. First pitch misses. drilled out towards left center field. Morell going back on this one and it’s off the wall. Marte headed for third. The relay in there safely. Everything came together for him. Fast ball pretty much middle middle and that’s what you fall asleep dreaming about as a hitter. So no surprise he put a great swing on it. runner at third. Nobody out. Jake Freley the next to hit for the Reds. And the first pitch misses for ball one. [Applause] Marte at third with nobody out. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] That one pulled foul. [Music] [Applause] There’s a ball. [Applause] That’s outside and it counts for Jose Trevinho in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. [Applause] Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. [Applause] Eighth pitch of the at coming up. and ball four to a board. So runners in the corners, nobody out. Here’s Jose Trevinho. This bat might not seem like a huge deal right now, but baseball is a game of moments, and what happens here could change everything. Here’s the pitch. run around and go swing and a highf fly ball pulled foul and that’s out of play. [Applause] That pitch in for a strike and it’s nothing and two. But I think ultimately you want to tie him up, get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield. One, two in the dirt. No advance. Good job behind the dish. tying run in scoring position here in the last half of the third. Two two. This one in the dirt, but no advance from the runners [Applause] to the right side to second. There’s one return throw to first. Double play and the run scores from third. First and third, nobody out. You’re thinking you’ve got it lined up for a pretty big inning right here. So that double play, it’s pretty deflating. They get the run in, but now they’re starting all over. Now here’s the Red’s leadoff man, TJ Fredle. First time up was a pop out. Foul ball there. [Applause] And that one is lifted in the air on his way in. And that is the third out of the inning. So it’s one run, one hit, no errors, and nobody left on. Three innings complete. All tied 1-1. Back here in Cincinnati. Now it’s the right fielder Josh Low. Josh Low. He swings and misses at the first pitch. And one. Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good. And then by the time he gets in the hitting zone, hard to get the barrel to it on the ground and it goes just foul up the middle. Dela Cruz to first. Lead off hitter retired in the fourth. Good sinker low in the zone right there and produced exactly what he was looking for. Ball on the ground. Nice ground out. So now here’s the DH Kim. He popped out his first time. Kim goes 5’9 in 29 years old and he’s a native of South Korea. That one not close. One and0. inside. Just missed. [Music] In for a strike and it’s two and one. All tied up. Top half of inning number four. [Applause] Bunting for a hit and a foul ball. [Applause] [Music] That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Inside three and two now. Full count. There’s a swing and a drive. And that one hops the wall. He’s in at second with a one out double. Everything came together perfectly for him right there. Put a really beautiful swing on that pitch right there. Just didn’t quite have the combination of launch angle and exit velocity to drive it over the wall. But when you can beat a center fielder like that, you know you hit it well. One out, runner at second. And now it’s going to be Christopher Morell. And that one fouled off. check swing, but he went too far and the count is 0 and two. man at second and that’s in the dirt. Bows it off. Still one and two. [Music] That’s to third. Marte zips it to first. Two away. Good armside run to that same side hitter right there. Very difficult to put that ball in the air or get through. It just bores in on the hands. So the go-ahead run in scoring position. Now it’s Jance in the hit. Let’s go. Come on. Fought off. Foul. [Applause] [Music] Man on second. Two down. Gruer breaks for third. Slapped foul. line drive and that’s a base hit out into center field headed for the plate. He’ll score easily. It’s an RBI single. It’s 2-1. Picks himself up an RBI. That ball was 106 off the bat. And that’s the kind of feedback that tells you you’re right where you want to be with your swing mechanics. So, two down and stepping in for the Rays, Taylor Walls. He’s 0 for one. up the middle. Dela Cruz, they get the full and that is the inning, but the RBI single pushes across a run. And this is now a 2-1 ball game. Back here at Great American Ballpark. Bottom four in now for the Reds. Matt Mlan Mlan, you can do it. Pitch misses. Ball one. [Applause] Called strike right there. [Applause] And now two and one. Well, these Reds showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. He’s only given up one run, but the starter’s pitch count is starting to get up there and that might be the best news yet for this offense. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage and that might be the case today. spoils that one and it remains two and two. And that’s downstairs and outside. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked. [Applause] Swing and he breaks his bat. That’s a foul ball. [Music] Got him looking. That’s a strike out. Really good battle right there. And that final pitch probably could have gone either way. Was hoping he’d get ball four. Instead, the umpire rings him up for the backwards K. Stepping in is the switchhitting shortstop. Ellie Dea Cruz. His first at bat was a strikeout. Gets the outside corner with that one. So, here’s a fun note on Ellie. He became the youngest player in high a ball to homer from both sides of the plate in the same game. And it gets better. He did it again two games later. Those are the type of games that tend to get you promoted in the minors. One down, base is empty. Swings and misses. 0 and two. Two strikes. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Just couldn’t pull the trigger on the fast ball right there and I don’t think he was taking it thinking it might be a cold ball or anything. I just think he was flat out frozen. Did not expect that location in my opinion. Hayes in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. Out to short Walls and it’s a one, two, three inning. Reds go down quietly and they trail it here. Two to one. And welcome back to the ballpark. ready now for the fifth inning. And now here’s the speed threat outfielder number 14. That’s through there for a strike. Well, these Rays, simply put, are producing a lot of quality swings. They’ve hit seven line drives already. And even though some of them have been for outs, there’s nothing wrong with delivering consistent hard contact. That’s almost always going to lead to positive results. And now one and two. swings through that one. It’s a strike out. Well, that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count. And as a pitcher, it really allows you to start expanding the zone. Hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide. And what happens is because of the pressure, you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is. And that’s what leads to the strikeout. One down, base is empty. That one found hard the other way and a pitch. Pretty easy to give up on that pitch right there. Started on the edge of the plate with the spin. You know it’s going to finish well off the plate. That one misses. Now three and one. Base is empty, one away. And we’re in the top of the fifth. And that is in for a strike. And it’s three and two. That front door slider. Such a devastating pitch. You don’t want to get beat by the inside fast ball. So you cheat a little bit and then by the time it gets there, it’s out of the swing plate. Here’s a high chopper. The throw to first. And the first two set down in the top of the fifth. Now batting the first baseman, Jonathan Aranda. Two outs, space is empty. Jonathan Aranda next to hit for the Rays. And the slider just misses [Music] in there for a strike at the bottom of the zone. One strike. up the middle and it’s through for a hit and that keeps the inning alive. Now batting third base Junior Camo next to hit for the Rays. B for two in this one. Had a slider in there for a strike. [Applause] [Music] hard hit left field. Base hit in. And now first and second with two outs. Now batting right fielder Josh Low. Now, the Red’s manager is out of the dugout and will make a move to the pen. Brady Singer will depart and he leaves in a one-run game. New pitcher coming on. We’ll be back in a minute. Now, pitching Nick Martinez on the pitch out of the pen here. Still pretty early in the ball game. So, this bullpen has some work ahead of him. Best case scenario might be if he can come in here and get several quick outs. Kind of bridge the gap that starter left for him. First and second, two outs. Josh Low will hit next. There’s a strike. 01. Two on, two outs. Yeah, that’s fouled off. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Two on, two outs. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. [Applause] gets a piece and stays alive. Also really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. Gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches. Couldn’t hit the fast ball at the knees. Nice work from the Cincinnati pen there. Last half of the fifth coming up. It’s the Rays two and the Reds won. And we’re back. John Shelby with my buddy Chris Singleton. It’s set to get us started. Bottom five, Gavin Lux. [Music] There’s the strike. [Music] [Applause] Fast ball for a strike. 0 and two now. He doesn’t seem to like the pitch up. Hasn’t offered on either one of those pitches. 02 count now. I think the guy’s going to climb the ladder out there. in the air. Left field down the line and it stays fair. Safe at second with nobody out and he represents the tying run. The first move felt like a bit of a guess. You have to be right in those spots or things can get away from you awfully quickly. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Spencer Steer the next to hit for the Reds. That’s a strike going on. Full one. [Applause] Swing and a miss. And he was fooled. Man, that was pretty gross right there. [Applause] bounced to the right side, throws to first in time, and that’s the first out in the bottom of the fifth. That’s a good piece of hitting right there. It’s early, but you still want to move the runner up and give your team a chance to score. That’s exactly what happened. So, you better believe your teammates are happy with you after that at bat. Late swing fouled off. [Applause] 0 and two now as he swings through it. 02 the injury forcing them to turn to the bench for a pinch hitter. Santiago Espino. This is a tough task coming in cold off the bench and in the middle of an at bat. Man, you’re just never anticipating that. line drive takes it in for the out. That takes away the opportunity to score the runner from third with a sack fly. We’re talking about a different story if that line drive hits the ground. But he made a good play and they can get out of this thing with one more out. Next for Cincinnati, Jake Freilley walked his first time. [Music] [Applause] That one misses and that’s ball one. That’s good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout outside loan. two and 0 out towards left center and the inning is over. Reds leave one and our score remains 2-1. All right, we go to the top half of inning number six. At the plate now for the Rays is the DH. Hassan Kim pulls that one foul. All right, one outside with a breaking ball. Activity in the bullpen. Brent Sudter, the left-handed reliever appears to be getting loose. Barlo also getting ready out of the ground to third. Zips it across now. One gone in the top of the six. Now batting left fielder Christopher Morell. Christopher Morell next to hit for the Rays. One for two. Let’s go Cincinnati. That one missed 10. Off the mark there. Ball two. Top of the zone and it’s called a strike. In today’s game, not that many fast ball counts, but hitters still in the back of their minds, they’re looking for one. Two change up call right there. Excellent pitch selection to go with. And strike two. Two ball two strike. [Applause] Caught him looking for the K. Now batting. Two down. Base is empty now. A chance for Danny Jansen. And that’s downstairs. And that is ball one. Two outs. That misses two and one. That one is upstairs. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top half of the six. [Music] Fouled off again and it remains three and two [Music] in the air left field. Lux gets under it, brings it in for the third out. So they go quietly there. 91 and two scheduled to hit in the home half of the sixth. It’s the Rays two and the Reds won. Back here in Cincinnati, stepping in, Jose Travin. Jose Trovinho. Bos back to work outside. And that’s ball one. [Applause] Strike on the inside corner. Tonight, his slider has been really impressive. I mean, tight spin. It seems like the hitters aren’t picking it up out of the hand. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. Really think the outer half is open. Breaking ball in there. Got him looking. And that’s six Ks for him in this one. Oh, that curve ball had some pretty good break to it. As you can see, the hitter just locked up a little bit. Thought it was a great pitch to hit, but sometimes you’re looking for something else and you can’t pull the trigger. TJ Fredel the next to hit for the Reds. That one hooked fouled. [Music] Come on. Next offering upstairs. [Applause] You can do it. You can do it. Right through there. Got him. And he’s up to seven strikeouts. Two strikes. Many times hitters looking out over the plate. When you’re looking out over the plate, you’re also going to let the ball travel a little bit longer. And a fast ball zipped on the inside corner just locks you up. Here’s the second baseman, Matt Mlan. his split numbers between June and July there. And that one upstairs, ball one. This batter has to understand his job is to get on base however he can. If he gets hit by a pitch, if he walks, maybe even singles, but you want to get the heart of the order up to the plate. That missed inside. Now two and0. Struggled a little bit in this one. Couple of strikeouts earlier, but doing a much better job in this at bat to get ahead and find a good hitter count at two and 0. Two down. Nobody on. Fly ball down the line. Low sizes this one up. He’s got it. And that is out number three. Scott Barlo gets handed the rock out of the pen. Well, he’s a big time strikeout guy out there this season, averaging more than one per inning. Scott Barlo [Applause] and now Taylor Wall both sides equally as strong. So, not a good time to try to turn him around with a relief pitcher and put him on the other side of the plate. And a foul ball. Barlo in his seventh season. He features a slider, a slur, and he works in a four seamer. Swung on, belted back there. Makes the catch, gliding onto the warning track. Man, Boo, I love watching an outfielder take on the wall to make that play and it’s a lot easier to watch from up here because that can be painful in the end. You know, the wall’s coming up on you quickly. So, you have to maintain concentration and able to make that catch and hold on to it after contact. Try to bunt his way on bare hand scoop. Got him. Nice play, man. He made that look easy, didn’t he? I mean, there’s nothing simple about that play. when you break it down. But right there, everything was done in one fluid motion to deliver a strike over to first just in time for the out. Tell you, I could watch that all day. Now up for Tampa Bay, Yandi Diaz. just missed. [Applause] Next pitch downstairs and that’s ball two. ball. That’s ball four. Tried another fast ball but missed the spot. He did not take the bat off his shoulder the entire at bat. basement. So, next to the plate for Tampa Bay, Jonathan Aranda. That one ripped right center field and it’s into the gap. Diaz around third. Relay throw home and he’s out. Cut down and that ends the inning. Always exciting to see a play at the plate. Trying to score with two outs, but the tag just gets him in time and they cut down the run to end the inning. [Applause] back here at Great American Ballpark. And the batter will be the shortstop, Ellie Dea Cruz. First off, and it just misses. So, what we’re seeing is a lineup that’s just out of sync with the pitcher. They’re guessing wrong and their timing’s off. looking to get the tying run on base. That one in there across the letters. Well, I’m impressed with that challenge pitch right there. Even with this slim lead, this guy’s not afraid to go right after these hitters. Not close with that one. Two and one. Well, it’s been a very impressive outing so far. His command has been a big part of it. Even when he misses, he misses outside the strike zone, which is exactly what a pitcher wants. [Applause] That hook’s looking pretty sharp today. Just a solid pitching performance so far. And I really think it’s because of that curve ball. Got him. Strike out number eight. Oh, tough night at the dish. Punching out for the third time right there. just doesn’t look very comfortable at the plate. A little unsure of his timing right now. Not picking up the spin and location of these pitches. He’ll have some adjustments to make. And now it’s Austin Haynes gets the call. Strike one. No balls, one strike. holding on to a one-run lead here near the bottom of the seventh. Swing and a miss as he was late that time. It really looks like these hitters have been in between with their timing today. Good fast ball, excellent slider, but they’ve not been able to cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. Well, that’s a curve ball that I’m sure he wants back at the plate. Two strikes, the sort of pitch you’re hoping for. a bit of a mistake and I’d say in a very hitable location, but clearly the break was enough to get him to swing through it. Gavin Lux the next to hit for the Reds. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Let’s go, Red. right through there for a strike. Oh, he’s got to be pretty proud of this outing so far. Sometimes guys cower coming into a ballpark like this, but he has attacked hitters. Pitching on the road like this is very impressive. This has been a treat to watch. Yeah, big swing and a miss. No, this manager knows that his players are just trying to do too much. Everybody needs just take a deep breath, relax, and let it naturally happen. Reds on the ground to third. Over to first and the Reds go one, two, three. Nobody left for Cincinnati. They’re down two to one. And welcome back to the ballpark. Here’s the third baseman, Junior Camo. In there at the knees for a strike. And a foul ball. Breaking ball misses down and away [Music] outside low. Two and two. Swing and a miss. Strike him out. Lead off man is out here in the eighth. And stepping in for the Rays, Josh Low. 0 for three in this one. That missed by a lot. Ball one. Base is empty. One away. And we’re in the top of the eighth. And that’s outside. Last couple of pitches. Breaking balls away. I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count. And that’s a little bit high. And now three and one in the air. center field. He makes the catch and there’s two down. Now batting the designated hitter, Hassang Kim. Two outs. Base is empty. Hassan Kim digs in now. One for three. And that drops in for a strike. Next offering is fouled back. Man, this has been a real important inning in relief. I mean, so far they’ve been doing a great job holding that deficit at one. Swings through it and that’s a strikeout. Down in order go the Rays, but they still lead it two to one. Now on the bump, Kevin Kelly. 25th appearance of the year for him. Now pitching for Tampa Bay, number 49, Kevin Kelly. and ready to hit now for Cincinnati. Spencer Steman Spencer Ste that catches the corner. Really good cutter that he’s able to front door and back door. That pitch is devastating. Tampa Bay’s bullpen with some action. Pete Fairbanks warming up for manager Kevin Cash. Seymour, a left-hander, also throwing. Ball one there. Pitch is in the dirt and a count two and one. And that’s outside. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with the 3-1 count. Fouls one away. And now three and two. Swing and a ball popped in the air and there’s one away. Now batting third baseman Santiago Espel in now for the Reds. Santiago Espel. Corner infielders guarding the lines trying to prevent extra bases. [Applause] And the pitch is outside. Ball one. [Applause] Little Chopper rolls foul, trying to hold a one-run lead here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. [Applause] And a count one and two. [Music] Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. And the tying run is on base. Always feels amazing getting a job done when the team needs you to come through. It’s just bigger than your own individual stats. Smash that one through the infield for the knock. When it’s hit that hard, it makes it very tough on the infielders to make any sort of play. One down. Runner at first. Jake Freley the next to hit for the Reds. And that one fouled off. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] This one chopped to first. The throw to second. Double play. They can’t seem to break through. Inning over. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. Through eight full. It’s the Rays two. And the Reds won. We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound. Sam Moore. This softball has been really good against left-handed hitters. So digging in, Christopher Morel. [Applause] Pop foul out of play off to the right. [Applause] Just missed. Activity in the bullpen for the Reds. Brent Sudter up and throwing for Terry Francona. Santion a right-hander loosening up as well. [Applause] Highfly ball lifted in the air right field and there’s one down. Now batting and now the catcher for the Rays Danny Jansen. [Applause] And that misses ball one. One ball. No strike. [Applause] Next offering is fouled back. And downstairs. Crowd locked in right now. one-run game here in the ninth [Applause] and fires in a fast at 95. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. [Applause] This one in the air. Mlan and makes the grab and there’s two away. Now batting shorts stop Taylor Walls. Two down, base is empty. Here’s the shortstop at the plate. Taylor Walls. [Applause] fouled off left side. One-run game here in the top of the ninth [Applause] and takes low for ball one. One ball, one strike. [Music] [Applause] Slashed foul down the right side. That’ll hook off into the seats. Two outs. All two two swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. Trovinho hauls it into the inning. Three up, three down that time and 912 scheduled to lead off the bottom of the ninth. It’s the Rays two and the Reds won. We’re back and on the mound is the closer Pete Fairbanks. I think closer has to be one of the toughest jobs in baseball and we see a pretty high turnover rate because of it. Every outing seems to be high pressure. This one included. We’ll see if he can wrap up the win and get himself a save. Jose Trevinho getting ready to hit. and misses inside. Boo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. With that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. One-run game, bottom nine, and fouled off. [Applause] This one popped up. Foul ground first base side. Has room and he makes the catch. Now batting the center fielder TJ Fredo. He’s two outs away now. Here’s the Red’s leadoff man, TJ Fredle. [Music] [Applause] Hard ground ball for bas and the tied run is on base here in the bottom of the ninth. First pitch swing in went up there with the plan to be aggressive. Couldn’t get any air under it, but he smoked that ball back up the middle. Timing was just perfect. Got great wood on it and there was just no chance for the infielders with how hard he hit. Making a move at first on the pinch run. Will Benson here in the bottom of the ninth, one out. Next for Cincinnati, Matt Mlan 0 for three with two strikeouts and a fly out. And there’s a strike. Good heater at 98. [Music] [Applause] Not even close there. And now it’s even one and one. Tying run at first. The winning run at the plate. Fairbanks checks over to first and he’s back. [Applause] Ball two. Way to lay off that pitch down. One strike. [Applause] Swings and misses. It’s two and two with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. Run around to go and a foul ball. stays alive with a tying run on at first and the home team trying to pull it out. [Applause] Just misses and it’s three and two. So here we go. Base runner at first could be running on the pitch. He’s got good enough speed to steal the bag to get in scoring position even if it’s a swing and miss at the plate. [Applause] Good job to fight that one off. [Music] Got him looking. Now only one out remaining. Well, he’s going to have some thinking to do when he leaves the ballpark after this one. That was his third strike out and this one looking obviously. So, he’s been a little overmatched. He’s got to find a way just to be more competitive up there at the plate. Reds down to their final out. And now the shorts stop. Ellie Dea Cruz. Three strikeouts already. He’s 0 for three. And there’s the strike. Right now they’re looking for something. Hit hard into the gaps. Give them an opportunity with two outs to score that run from first. Trying to keep the game alive here in the bottom of the ninth. [Applause] The next offering misses and it’s a ball and a strike. You don’t want to get beat by a fast ball in and he spits on that one. Right through there for a strike. [Applause] Fairbanks is just one strike away. battling here as he fouls it away. [Music] [Applause] Strike three. Got him swinging. And the crowd goes home disappointed as this one draws to a close. Well, we saw a lot of good pitching and defense in this ball game. When you have a lowscoring game, it’s imperative that the players stay on their toes, ready to make plays behind their pitcher, and they did exactly that. It’s an excellent win. Everyone goes in the clubhouse feeling really good about themselves. And your final score here today, 2-1 for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB The Show. I’m John Shami saying so long.
