Over at The Hockey Writers, I’ll be taking a look at where the Penguins’ draft classes over the years ended up. I take a look at the 2016 class in my first edition.

Stocking the cupboards has been what Dubas set out to do. History tells a story as old as time that each pick is just a shot in the dark. His drafting history has not yielded much in his five plus at the helm of the leafs. But, we are the penguins and we got the improved version of Dubas … cup in three years… right boys?? Right!
As bad as this draft is, next years is worse. Pens 2017 draft = 0 GP from 6 players selected. You wanna know why we stink now?
from 2016 through 2022 we have a total of 128 GP in a penguins uniform by players drafted by the organization.
thats 1.5 seasons worth of games… from 36 players drafted. Yikes.
that means from 36 players drafted, 1.5 of them became a regular NHL’er.
GMJR was a riverboat gambler and we got 2 cups from it so its hard to complain, but this also illustrates why Dubas approach to aquiring as much draft capital as possible now is so important.
