MLB LIVE🔴 Minnesota Twins vs Washington Nationals – Jul 25, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

And welcome in everybody. Glad you’re with us. Inner league baseball on MLB the show. It’s the Washington Nationals taking on the Minnesota Twins. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. Minnesota Twins. [Applause] just about to get underway. And today’s starter, Joe Ryan, well, he brings into this one an excellent strikeout to walk ratio on the season. And when you consider the amount of swings and misses that he gets, the fact that he’s not issuing free passes, that’s going to make him more economical in his pitch count, allow him to move into the middle and deeper part of ball games. So, we’ll see if that remains true in this one. CJ Abrams leading things off and takes a strike. Next offering is fouled back. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2. kicks and deals and down on strikes. One out in the top of the first stood absolutely no chance on that slider right there. And I don’t mean to laugh, but that’s a tough one. I mean, pretty much a perfect strikeout pitch. I mean, it looks like a fast ball middle end. Kind of has cutter action and it just bunches you up to where you can’t get your hands through and the barrel to it. And not much you can do unless you recognize the spin early and you spit on it. James Wood batting with one down. takes a strike. One down, base is empty. Swings through that. He got away with one there, but he knows he can’t go into that spot very often against a guy like this. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. That’s about as nasty of a splitter as you’ll come across, especially in terms of movement. I mean, that thing tumbles out of his hand and just drops off the table at the last moment. If he keeps it down, it’s just so tough to put wood on. Luis Garcia in the box now. No balls in a strike. Two outs. Base is empty. ball and a pop off right side foul territory and makes the play and that’s out number three and the Nationals go in order and now the Twins will go to work on offense. We’ve got no score. Major League Baseball is on the show. Back in Minnesota and on the mound for Washington in this one, McKenzie Gore. Well, Boo may be a little pedestrian there in terms of the ERA, but with those numbers, you expect to be in a ball game and have an opportunity to win. And really, that’s all his teammates can ask for. So, we’ll see if he’s able to be consistent in this one. Leading off leading off, Trevor Lick, the designated hitter. Trevor Lick off the plate. Ball one. [Applause] and delivers outside. Pretty easy to give up on that pitch right there. Started on the edge of the plate with the spin. You know it’s going to finish well off the plate. And now two and two. [Music] [Music] This one in the air. low carous it and there’s one down and now we take a peek at the Twins lineup singing the numbers tell us this is an offense designed to swing it they’re not going to force a ton of action on the bases and so obviously that is one of the focal points that we’ll look at and you look at the quality of the at bats because of the fact that the legs aren’t a part of this game they have to be very selective look for long pitch counts grinding out at bats and really barrels to the baseball because it’s a lot easier to jog around the bases than for these players to sprint. Swings and blasts one deep to left center. Young ranging back, bounces off the wall as he makes the grab. Outstanding catch right there. And I love the commitment that he showed. He knew that the wall was close, but was determined to make that catch and a nice calculation of just how much room he had to try to minimize that contact. Carlos Carlos Kareah the next to hit takes ball one. He’s great hitting the ball the other way and that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit. Mission accomplished. That one’s in there and the count one and one. Outside corner. There’s a strike. [Music] A short stop. Takes the ball. Swing and that’s ripped towards right center. Young brings it in with a nice running grab. Nothing doing here for the Twins. We’ve played an inning. They’ll score. Back at target field. Second inning set to go. Here’s Nathaniel Low. Low. Joe. Ryan. Back to work. And that one is downstairs. And that is ball one. [Music] [Applause] And another ball. And a foul ball makes the count two and one. [Music] Fouls one off out of play. Back to our left and a swing and a miss. Beat him with a fast. And now for Washington, Alex call. And a bunt back at the pitcher. Bare hand grab. Gathers and throws. And that’s a great play for the out. Two down. Base is empty. And here is Paul De Young. Just missed. Was good pitch there. really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken back as you jog back to the dugout. [Applause] Ball two. No score here in the second. That one lifted to left. Castro brings it in and that’ll do it. We’ll go to the bottom of the second. No score. We head to the bottom of the second. And now Cody Clement. Cody Clemen [Applause] out in front with the swing. And that is strike one. One strike. Check. Swing. Did he go? Yes, he did. O2 swing and a miss. Struck him out. Just blown away in that at bat. Three fast balls, all strikes. Wasn’t even able to foul one off. There’s not much you can take away from an at bat like that as a hitter other than maybe there’s something wrong with your eyes. Got to have better timing on the fast ball next time. Ty France the next twin up to hit inside. That’s ball one. One out. Base is empty. [Music] Close one. doesn’t get the call. Now two and0 swing and a miss and he was fooled. Two balls, one strike. And there’s a ball. [Applause] And there’s ball four. And that’s their first base runner of the game. Pretty easy walk right there. Last pitch. Wasn’t even much to think about. Next for Minnesota, Matt Walmer. Taken high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point, that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. Hit on the ground. Might be two. There’s one. And that’s two. He’s out. Offense held in check there. We head on now to the top of the third. No score. top half of the third inning up now for Washington. Dalen Lyall Lyall Lyle goes 5′ 11 in hitting seventh in today’s lineup and he was a second round pick in 2021. [Music] And that one is in for a strike. Good pitch. Next offering upstairs. 2-1. And that one is inside. Close pitch there. and he’s kind of wondering where it missed. You know, getting a feel for each umpire strike zone is something that pitchers and hitters really have to think about and work on from game to game and sometimes from at bat to at bat. Check swing. Cold strike. Down. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] hacks and misses. It’s a strike out. Well, a well thrown spinner is going to do exactly that. Get you off balance thinking it’s a fast ball. Very similar to a change up, but often times a split’s going to have even more downward movement with more velocity. Good pitch. Riley Adams will hit next. First pitch misses. 10. Top of the zone for a called strike. One-1. Top of the third. No score. fall way out front for strike two. Two balls, two strike. Got him swinging. Just a mid90s challenge fast ball right there. Not much to it and I’m sure he’d love another swing at it because it was in a very hitable location. Those are the swings where you can sometimes start to question yourself as a hitter and say how I missed that. But you know what happens. Jacob Young digging in for the Nationals and it’s fouled away. [Music] Two down. Nobody on tap foul at the plate. And that’s way high. Going to count one and two. One, two. [Music] And a foul ball. He stays alive. Flew open a little bit with that front shoulder, but was able to slow his back down just enough to make contact with that pitch. Keep the bat alive. No, that one just misses. And the count now even up. Really good take especially with two strikes. Got him swinging for the strike out. And he strikes out the side in the third. Three up, three down for Washington. Still no score. And welcome back to the ballpark. Now it’s going to be Harrison. Harrison Bader [Applause] Bader guy who played his college ball at the University of Florida from the New York area. Went to Horus Man High School. Next offering is foulback. [Music] and ball one. His understanding of the strike zone very impressive. That was a very close 02 fast ball. I just don’t know how you take that. This one popped up. Foul ground first base side. Low makes the catch and there’s one away. Batting the third baseman Royce. Here’s Royce Lewis. [Applause] First offering misses badly for ball one. And another ball. [Applause] Yeah, that’s outside. Three and 0. All I would expect in this three 0 count, you’re taking all the way. See if he’ll walk you. Next pitch in for a strike. Three and one. [Music] [Music] And that’s ball four. Tried another slider, but it missed the plate. Oh, a breaking ball in that 3-2 count kind of tells you that that’s the pitch he has the most confidence in right now. Just couldn’t find the strike zone. And now it’s Christian Vasquez. Ruard takes off. Swing and a line drive and a base hit out of left center field. Throw into third. Not in time. He’s safe. Didn’t take long to get a result for that bat off the bat. It was headed for the gap all the way. And as a hitter, you love seeing those as you take your first couple of steps out of the box. You know you got some real estate to run on. And such a good feeling. Nice liner into the gap right there. back to the leadoff spot and the Twins line up. Here’s Trevor Lick. First time up was a pop out and there’s a strike of the outside corner. 0 and one. Well, all eyes on the double play ball in this spot. No better way to get out of this inning. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] I think ultimately you want to tie him up, get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield. Caught him looking for the K. Oh, that was such a great opportunity to grab the lead. You had the infield back. All you got to do is just put the ball into play on the ground and you drive across a run. That’s a frustrating outcome for the hitter. now still have a chance, but it’s probably going to take a clutch hit with two outs. This is Willie Castro. That pitch in for a strike and it’s 0 and one. Lefty out of the stretch. Runners at first and third. That one not close. One and one. That’s down and in. Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. Two aboard, two outs. [Applause] That one in for a strike. Two and two. Two. [Applause] swinging a chopper out to short. Abrams got him on the offbalance throw. They don’t come much closer than that. Bang bang play to end the inning. Two left on. Three innings complete. We’re tied nothing. Nothing as we go to the top of the fourth. Now it’s the shortstop. CJ Abs. Yeah, the pitch is in for a strike. One. You know, these Nationals just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. So many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches they’re chasing outside of the strike zone. You can’t do much of anything with those locations. And that’s been true again today. Ripped on a line to center. Fader makes the grab. Run down. And as a pitcher, when the hitters are swinging at everything, you feel no need to challenge inside the zone. You just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond. And they just keep eating right out of your hand. [Applause] Wood in the box for the second time. One ball, no strikes. Fourth inning underway. No score. Here’s a high-fly ball out to center. Bader sizing it up. He’s got it. And there’s two away. Oh, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Two down, nobody on. Top half of inning number four. Ball. [Music] in there at the knees. Strike one. [Music] And that skips in the dirt. And that’s ball four. And that’s how they get their first base runner of the game. One of the things about that two out walk, the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI. And those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. Low at the plate for the second time as he takes ball one on the ground and it stays fair. rounds third headed for the plate. The relay throw not in time. He’s safe at the plate and it’s one- nothing. A swing like that can help you come out of this struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. So runner at second, two down. Call getting ready to hit. 0 for one so far. [Applause] Turned on but foul wide of third. Runner at second. Two down. Just missed. And a ground ball to first. He takes it on his own. That ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand. One for the Nationals on this RBI double. It’s now one- nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. And we’re back. John Shami and Chris Singleton with you. And leading off the bottom of the fourth, Carlos Korea. Come on. I love you. Swung on. Belt reaching back towards the wall and it bangs off the out of John scoreboard and the tying runs at second base with a double. Wastes no time there. Anytime you smoke a ball off the wall, you kind of think about what it could have been, but obviously you have to be happy with that result. Runner in scoring position, no outs. Clemens digs in now. That misses and it’s one and0. [Applause] swing and a miss as he was late. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Swinging a ground ball in. Plenty of time to first, one out in the bottom of the fourth. That’s a good piece of hitting right there. It’s early, but you still want to move the runner up and give your team a chance to score. That’s exactly what happened. So, you better believe your teammates are happy with you after that at bat. [Applause] France swings through it for strike one. Well, you got to find a way to catch up to that pitch. Perhaps shorten the swing, eliminate the stride. That one came in hot. But right down the middle, you’re saying to yourself, “How did I miss that pitch?” Got to make a quick adjustment. [Applause] Next pitch misses inside. Now two balls in a strike. Boom. He never moved cuz he never had time to. With that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away on the ground to third. The Young throws to first in time. That’s an out. Well, there’s a lot riding on that right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. And now for the Twins, Matt Walmer. He hit into a double play his first time up. You know, this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher. What you tell yourself is I want to stay square to the plate. Try to hit the ball over the shortstop’s head. And that one misses up and in. And that’s ball one. No strike. [Applause] Hit hard on the ground to the right side. And it’s just fouled. That was close. And that’s down and away. [Applause] Now this is in the air down the line and that drops foul on a line. Got it. Nice grab and that will end the inning. Twins wind up stranding one. Still behind by a count of one to nothing. Ready now for the fifth inning. Here’s the third baseman. Paul De Young. Ryan back to work. Right through there for a strike. [Applause] outside low and one and one. Swings through that one for strike two. Man, that’s just a nasty splitter. Bottom falls out of it. You don’t see a lot of guys throw that these days, but I tell you what, he’s got a good one. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. picks up strikeout number seven. Has a really good job setting him up right there. Pitcher and catcher working together to finish him off with the fast ball. And even though the location probably wasn’t what he wanted, the sequence is what got the job done. Clearly late with the swing after seeing the off speed stop on the pitch before. And now here’s the speed threat. Outfielder Jaylen Lyall fought off foul. One down. Base is empty. That one finds the zone. And that’s strike two. [Applause] [Music] Ball one there. Swinging a drive deep right field way back there. Tattooed and gone. Third home run of the season and they tack on to their lead. It’s two nothing. Well, I’m not really sure how he kept that fair. When you’re out in front on a breaking ball like that, such a good chance that it’s going to hook foul, but not this time. He kept the hands moving forward just long enough to sneak it inside that foul pole. Adams in the box here lets that one go for a ball. [Music] So, two balls and no strikes. He looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout. [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike. [Applause] late that time and it’s strike two. That fast ball right by him. Slightly elevated. That’s a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound. See if he continues to climb the ladder. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. Up next for the Nationals, the center fielder, Jacob. And now the center fielder Jacob Young struck out swinging his first time. And that’s outside man at first. One away. Swing and a highf fly ball pulled foul and that’s out of play. Well, that ball was hit pretty hard and sure had home run distance, but if you’re the pitcher out there on the mound, you execute it. Just a long strike. You go after him and finish him off. Swing and a miss. One ball, two strikes. Battling here as he fouls it away. And that’s downstairs and outside. Adams stands at first with one out. Swings through it and that’s a strike out. And Chris, that’s a way to neutralize his speed by keeping him off base. And the defense breathes a sigh of relief because he puts pressure on everyone if he can put the ball in play. But that’s how you do it. Keep him off balance, get him out of there, and deal with the next guy. Here’s CJ Abrams now. 0 for two in this one. Just miss [Music] delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. One run across in the frame so far and we’re in the top of the fifth. There’s the swing and a miss. One, two. [Applause] Just missing there. And the count is two and two. [Applause] Fouled off. And they’ll do it again. Two outs. Keeps the attack going with a foul ball. Misses and the count’s full. 3-2. Two out. Runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch. Eighth pitch of the bat coming up. And a pop off right side. Foul territory. France sizing this one up. Nabs it. And that is that one in the inning. And it comes from a rather unlikely power source. And it’s two zip. Back after this on the show. back in Minnesota. Bottom of the inning. And now for the Twins. Harrison Bader. Bader. That’s the third. And Bader is set down. Now batting the third baseman, Royce Lewis. And now here is Royce Lewis. He reached out to walk his first time. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. [Applause] [Music] And another ball. [Applause] [Music] Right through there for a strike. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. [Music] Got him. And he’s registered three Ks in this one. Ah, the Uncle Charlie boo. Kept it up his sleeve the entire bat until the sixth pitch. Snapped it off, dropped it in there, and just frozen. What’s with the Uncle Charlie nickname? I mean, people use it all the time. Doesn’t feel like it’s it’s common knowledge as to why. Yeah, I don’t know. Um, sounds like something we could find on the interweb, though. Yeah, I think you’re probably right. But why not like Uncle Carl or something like that? Uncle Curly, Uncle Boo. Well, but then what would it be? A breaking ball. The Twins down by a pair. Last half of inning number five. Inside just missed. Oh, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. Two down. Smoked on the ground to second. The throw to first and the Twins go one, two, three. Still nothing on the scoreboard for him after five. It’s the Nationals two and the Twins nothing. Chris Paddock gets the call from the pen. Pretty tight game, so they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. So now here’s the DH James Wood. You talk about the power and the speed together. Oh, we knew he was going to be a stud just coming up making his way through the minor leagues. This one swung on and hit well way back there in the air to make the catch. What an outstanding effort going all the way back to the warning track and leaving his feet to bring that one in. It’s so tough to jump on the run like that and time it perfectly. So that was awesome. And now it’s Luis Garcia. He’s 0 for one. Swaging a popup foul out of play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands. Paddock, the tall righty, 215 pounds, and he was drafted in the eighth round back in 2015. One down, base is empty. Got him looking. That’s out number two. Really nice pitch right there. He dotted that fast ball on the inside and just froze him for the backwards gay. Even if he swings, so tough to do anything with the pitch in that location and that velocity. You almost have to be looking hard in with two strikes to handle it. And who does that? Low stands in now and watches strike one. And now it’s even up. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top half of the sixth. And a big swing and a miss. Benny really sells the change up with that arm action. Missed with a change up and it’s two and two. Recognized that change up right out of the hand. Just spit on it. That one is upstairs. Full count. Fights it off. He’ll see another. The right-hander gives up the two out walk. Man, that’s a tough one to take on the full count, but I guess he saw it really well. It’s a really nice plate appearance. Alex Call digging in for the Nationals. Call struggling on the road this season. Better results at home. This to third. Lewis over to first. Third out. And that ends the frame. So, one left for Washington, but they hold a two nothing lead. Back in target field. Bottom of the six. Now it’s the DH. Trevor L. Lner. Come on, Twins. Looked like it was a little bit up. Well, these Twins need to bring up the quality of their bats and specifically their swings. Just one extra base hit for them. So, they haven’t exactly been hitting the ball gap to gap or out of the park. That makes it really difficult to generate runs. And the swing miss. Two balls, one strike. comes up empty. That’s strike two. It really looks like these hitters have been in between with their timing today. Good fast ball, excellent slider, but they’ve not been able to commit to one velocity and stay there. And it remains two and two. [Music] hit in the air right field and that one way back there and that is way gone and they’re on the board. It’s 2-1. He just sent this stadium into a frenzy. They’re going nuts. [Applause] knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spent on some other pitches in this at bat. Was very patient and it paid off. [Applause] So up next for Minnesota, Willie Castro that misses the zone. One and0. Always exciting to see a leadoff home run in an inning. Kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in here in the bottom of the sixth. [Applause] and fouled off. With the big bats coming up and a home run already surrendered, he’s really going to have to execute against these next couple of batters. [Applause] Next offering popped in the air right field puts it away for the batter number four. Shortstop now. Kareah up to hit the wall last time just missed out on a home run. Kareah the former first overall pick from Puerto Rico back in 2012 and he blossomed into the American League Rookie of the Year in 2015. on the ground to the left and Kareah retired. Now batting the second baseman, Cody Clemens. Cody Clemens the next twin up to hit. [Applause] And the first pitch misses for ball one. [Applause] Swing and a ball lifted to center field. Garcia hauls it into Indiana, but not before they’re able to draw closer with this blast. And it’s now a two-1 ball game. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound. Cole Sam. Now pitching. He’s averaging more than one hit allowed per any pitch this season. And that’s not where you want to be at all. So, we’ll see how he does here. Now, it’s Paul Young up to the plate. The third baseman, Paul D. Young. And that gets the top of the zone for a strike. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Danny Koul warming up for manager Roco Baldelli. Stewart also getting ready. [Music] Just missed. One one next offering upstairs and downstairs. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. 3-1 is on the way. Ground ball right side and that’s just fouled. 3-2 stays alive. Pretty good pitch there to take a rip at. He wants to get his arms extended. He likes the ball away from him a little bit. Just not able to square it up. Tying him up on a fast ball inside. came inside with that two strike fast ball nicely and just bunched him up on the inside part of the plate. Couldn’t get around on it and catch it out front. Many times if you do, it’s a foul ball. And you know, a lot of pitchers, they really don’t like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter. And when they’ve got them up against the ropes, got to figure out a way to put them away. Did a nice job right there. Ly stands in here, leaves that one off the inside. One down. Base is empty. And that misses. And that’s ball two. Two ball. No strike. Next offering is fouled back. That one down the line and it goes just foul. Ground ball left side and foul ball. Well, he hasn’t gotten the result yet, but it’s got to feel pretty confident. Three foul balls in a row. He’s right on this guy. There’s the splitter in the dirt. Swing and a miss. And there’s two gone following the strike out. very strong coming out of the pin so far as he punches out the first two batters he’s faced in this one. Getting straight to work. Man, it’s talked about a lot, but relievers are just so electric these days. He’s having fun at bats if you’re a hitter. And I’m so glad I’m retired. Here’s the catcher. Riley Adams, one for two. Pitch misses outside. Ball one. [Applause] There’s a strike. [Applause] And that one hammered. That’s back. And it’s gone. That one felt good. His second home run of the series. It’s 3-1. Well, he took the split finger that was away and stayed on plane with it nicely. That’s one of the most difficult pitches to square up. He just did it and right there he was a professional hitter. So two down, Jacob Young the next to hit who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. And that’s in there for strike one. [Applause] That one in there across the letters. Two down. Base is empty, but one run across here in the top half of inning number seven. Fly ball to right. Walner makes the grab and that is that. One in the inning for the Nationals on the solo homer. It’s now a 3-1 ball game. You’re dialed into the show. And welcome back to the ballpark. And now the first baseman, Ty France. Right through there for a strike. Action in the pen down there. Andre Lara looks to be getting ready for Dave Martinez. Ferrer, a left-hander, also throwing. Let’s go. Let’s go. Let’s go. Now a screamer into the outfield. Makes the catch and there’s one gone. Now batting the right fielder Max. Matt Walmer. The next twin up to hit. in there for a strike at the top of the zone. No ball, one strike. [Music] Next offering is fouled back. That misses the zone. One and two to Cal. The Nationals trying to protect a two-run lead here in the bottom of the seventh. Up and in. It’s two and two. [Applause] [Music] Fouls that off to the left and will do it again. Here’s a 2-2. Next offer misses down and away. Struck him out looking. Manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. McKenzie Gore gives way. Two-run ball game as he heads for the dugout. And we’ll be back with a new pitcher. Now pitching. New pitcher. Now, Andre Lara. These are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves. Late and close. There’s not much margin for error, but at the same time, there’s a reason they’re put in these situations. So, here’s Bader now. That one almost got him. Ball two. Three ball. No strike. Let’s see if he gives him anything to hit here. Draws the walk there and that’ll bring the tying run to the plate. He did not take the bat off his shoulder the entire at bat. And next for Minnesota, Royce Lewis, a strike out and a walk. That one misses. That’s five straight. Bader off of first with two away. Pickoff throw. He’s safe. Twins. Tying run at the plate. [Applause] And that one fouled off. The tying run at the plate out to short. Abrams sends it across to first and that ends the inning. One left for Minnesota and it remains a 3-1 ball game. Now pitching. Welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Anthony Mvich. He’s making his fourth appearance of the season. Here’s CJ Abrams to hit 0 for three in this one. DJ Abrams. That’s towards center. [Applause] Bader puts it away and there’s one down. Really nice job to get your first out of the ball game. Now batting the designated hitter, James. Next is the designated hitter, James Wood. This kid picked up in a trade. A lot was offered and given to get him, but he’s got a real high ceiling outside. And that’s ball one just off the inside edge. Looks like he was trying to get to the front door with that curve ball. It’s definitely a finesse pitch, but it backed up a little bit on him and stayed inside. One down, base is empty. That one’s spoiled. And the count now two and one. And that one fouled off. And that one misses up and in. And that’s ball three. And a swing and a miss. Now two out. Get him out in front, which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this. Known for using the entire field. Just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one. Two out. Space is empty. Next to hit for the Nats, Luis Garcia. That one outside. And that is ball one. No strikes. Little bit low. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the eighth. [Applause] [Music] Swinging a liner foul off to the right. And that one is lifted in the air. Walner makes the play. And that is that bottom of the eighth. Here’s Christian Vasquez leading off. This is a guy who’s in the line first and foremost because of what he contributes defensively. Chris, when you talk about preventing runs from being scored, this guy is a big contributor. headed towards the corner and that’s a foul ball. I was always told it’s hard to take you off the field when you play really good defense, especially at a premier position and that’s what he does. Swings through that one. It’s a strike out. The designated hitter. And next is the designated hitter, Trevor Lick. He’s already homerred here in this one. The hitting is going to come around. He’s going to figure it out. But right now, his big asset is the way he plays the game on defense. And that’s downstairs. And that’s ball one. And another ball. The Nets holding on to a two-run lead here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. That one’s in there and it’s two and one. Well, in this one, the offense has sputtered. Somebody’s got to find a way to get on, keep the line moving and manufacture at least one run. Then maybe you get two or three swinging a ball lined out towards center. And that’s a base hit. And that’ll bring the tying run to the plate. Everything came together perfectly for him right there. Fast pretty much middle middle and that’s what you fall asleep dreaming about as a hitter. So no surprise he put a great swing on it, man. at first with one gone. Willie Castro will hit next. 0 for three with two fly outs and a ground out. There’s the strike up high. 0 going 0 and one. Now, this team is definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But, you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. This ball’s chopped on the ground. Garcia over to second for one. Over to first. Safe. That’s a huge defensive play in the late stages of the game. It might not be the most challenging we’ve seen today, but it needed to be made. Helping your team. And here comes Carlos Koreah. One for three. That’s outside. One and0. One. The kick and the pitch. Runner goes. There’s a ball and it’s safe. It’s a stolen base. [Applause] Castro on at second with two down. That breaking ball drops in for a strike. Next pitch is downstairs. Fellas feel like he’s frustrated a little bit. He wants to be challenged. Cody Clemens in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Tying run at the plate out to short. Abrams, zips it to first. That ends the inning. Twins wind up stranding one. Score holds. It’s 3-1. We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound. Justin Topa. He’s having a ton of success facing left-handed hitters this season. So, this seems like a smart move to turn to him with a lefty at the plate. Nathaniel Low up to leading off to the Nationals. The first base number 33, Nathaniel Low. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. Topa in his fifth season. He features a sinker, a slider, a cutter, and he works in a change up. And there’s a ball. Minnesota’s bullpen with some action. Zebie Matthews getting loose out there. [Music] The 1-1 to third. Lewis to first and the leadoff man retired here in the ninth. Now batting right fielder Alex Call. Alex Call digging in for the Nationals. 0 for three with three ground outs. [Applause] Off the mark there. Ball one. Base is empty. One away here in the top of the ninth. just missed. And that one missing low. And that is in for a strike. And the count is three and one [Music] on the inside corner for a strike. Count. [Music] The 3-2 is outside and it’s ball four. Very close off the outside corner. Could have easily been called a strike in that location. Paul De Young digging in for the Nationals. 0 for three with two strikeouts and a fly out. [Music] Runner on the go. Swing a miss. Throw the second. No, man. I see him trying to be aggressive right there late in this ball game. Try to add on to that lead. You know, I really like the thought, but it just didn’t work out that time. Nice job by the defense right there to keep things right where they are in terms of the score. [Applause] Two outs. Just missed. [Applause] So a foul ball makes it one and two. [Applause] just misses with that one. Really good slider. He’s up there just hoping that it ends up off the plate away in the air right field. Walner flying after this one. Hops over the wall and that’s an automatic double. Well, there’s something really nice about getting yourself an automatic double like that. You get to stroll into second base without having to worry about a throw or getting your uniform dirty. And now you’re just looking for the next hitter to kind of do the same thing. Maybe put one in the gap so you can jog home as well. So runner at second, two down. And now up for Washington, Dalon Lyle in there and it’s 0 and one. [Applause] And now a little barking back towards the umpire. Clearly thought he got that outside corner on what was a pretty big pitch. Sometimes that only makes it worse for you moving forward, but it can also open up that location in the future if the umpire thinks there’s a chance that he missed it. Falling behind two and one. Last couple of pitches breaking balls away. I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count. [Applause] On the ground of first and that chance handled. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. So, no runs here in a base hit, no errors, and one left onto the bottom of inning number nine. 456 coming up. It’s the Nationals three and the Twins won. Back now and on the mound, the closer Kyle Finnean’s been a really tough guy to take deep this season. You usually have to string some hits together in order to get to him. fit again. Here’s the second base. Cody Clemens. The second baseman, Cody Clemens [Applause] and a foul ball. The healthy cut. Tough pitch at 98, but a really good pass at the ball. And that misses and the count even one and one. Just missed with that good fast ball inside, but it plants a seed in the hitter’s mind. He’s got to be ready for that pitch, which will open up the outside part of the plate. [Applause] Fouled off. He was late. [Applause] spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Gets a piece and stays alive. [Music] [Applause] And that’s a strike out looking called strike three and a fast ball up in the zone. Well, the first batter, it’s always a big one for the closer. I mean, you get that punch out, you get settled in, you feel like you’re in command out there on the mound from the jump and kind of prevents any doubt from creeping into your mind or the fielders that are playing behind you that, you know, you’re going to wrap this thing up. [Music] France in the box with one away as he takes ball one. The Nationals leading by two here in the last half of inning number nine. [Applause] They tried to get him to chase on a slider down and away. [Applause] fouls one off two and two. [Applause] swing and he breaks his bat. They get the tag on him and that’s the second out. Now batting the right fielder, Matt Walner. So they’re down to their final out. And now for the Twins, Matt Walmer. [Applause] You see the velocity 97 with that fast ball and there’s a rocket into the outfield. Now he turns and heads for second. The throw in. He’s there. It’s a two out double. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Got a fast ball middle of the plate, jumped all over it. Absolutely smoked that ball. Now a huge at bat in this game coming up. And now Bader up to the plate. [Applause] Top of the zone and it’s called a strike. Two-run game with two away here in the bottom of the ninth. Next offering in there for a strike and it’s 0 and two. Perhaps not quite ready to hit. First two pitches by him for a couple of strikes. Now back is against the wall. He’s going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly. That one missing inside. That turns out to be a really good take right there. But you don’t want to end this game with a bat on your shoulder. [Applause] Finnegan is just one strike away. Two balls, two strikes to count with two outs with the tying run at the plate. The home team trying to pull it out. And that’s outside. Full count three and two. Big pitch coming right here. Last thing he wants to do is put the tying run on base, but he can’t groove one either. Swing and a ground ball out to short. Throw to first time ball game and the Nationals claim the win here behind some great pitching and defense. Another outing and another save. That’s his 20th of the season. And this was a good example of why they rely on him so heavily in these close games. And your final 3-1 for Chris Singleton and our entire crew. I’m John Shambi saying so long. What the heat?
