WNBA LIVE: Dallas Wings vs Golden State Valkyries β WNBA Regular Season π₯ July 25, 2025 | 2K25
here with Brian Bafeti and Tim Schwarz. And now we take a brief look at the matchups for our tip off coming moments from now. It’s Burton pass to Billings Martin and she finishes nicely on the layup. Well, there’s lots of ways you can build a team. What do you think is the best route, Tim? Well, optimally, you want to draft and develop, but that’s tough to do because it’s hard to find rookies in second-year players who have a major impact. So, you need to have patience if you want to draft and develop. Yeah. So, I like the teams that make smart trades, whether it’s taking in picks, cashing in for a star, asset management is the name of the game. It’s Burton now. Talbot. Clock at six. It’s held in by James. Pass to Amba. Takes the 12-footer and hits. Well, it’s tough to stop Amba Walle when she’s letting it rip. She can get those shots off in a hurry. First minute and a half of basketball played here in this one. The rebound by the Wings. Yeah, remember that. And that’s not an opportunity. She fails to convert very often for three. Can’t get it to fall. And she’s missed her second after making her first. Here’s Martin. Guarded now by Aungawal on the wing. Kayla Thornton. They get it back. This one for three. Trains it from beyond the arc. A solid shooter from downtown. When Thornton gets daylight, she doesn’t waste it. Outside Hines Allen pass to James. Outside Agun Moal here’s James. Shoots. Macauan inside now. James the three. The three-pointer is on target. You know, some players you give that shot to, but let me be clear, she is not one of them. Terrible job by the defense. It’s Burton. And here in the first about 3 minutes in, Martin guarded now by Aungawal. Just five on the clock. Billings and the layup is good after a nice lead pass. Then her defender straight into that screen to open up the lane to the hoop. And we’re approaching about three and a half minutes played in this first quarter. To the left side wing screen by Hines Allen. Here’s James. The rebound by Thornton. Nice play on D. Got that hand in her face and it prevented an easy look. Exactly. She was alert and aware and really just reacted quickly to that shot. Here’s Martin to the middle. Score the basket. Nice shot after missing her first attempt. Nice pass. She got that ball right into her teammate shooting pocket and it yielded great results. pass to Hines Allen and it’s Kayla Thornton with the foul. That’s her first foul. So, both teams changing it up here. Right wing back to Seagris. Five to shoot. Takes the three. Sinks the three-pointer. You love her her presence on this team as a scorer. It has a calming effect for them. She’s a fallback option whenever they need one. Uh, and this Dallas franchise once represented the city of Detroit, and that’s where they won three championships. Yeah. Joining the league in year 2, 1998, they enjoyed lots of success in the Motor City, but then they moved to Tulsa in 2011 and then to their current home of Dallas in 2016. Burton gets the bucket. Dallas trailing here. Pass to Macauan. Ambal. Screen by Seagris. Now here’s Amba Walle. She’s covered closely. Down to five on the shot clock. Shoots the three. And again, it’s Dallas with a three. She might not be the top sharpshooter in this league, but that’s not a shot that D can afford to give to her. It’s Burton. The rebound by Seagris. Arunal to the paint. Sebras gets the bucket. Well, when you look at Seagris and her height and strength, she can definitely have the advantage inside. And here’s Burton. Now Martin with the rebound. Uses the glass to finish the layup. Good recognition from Amba Wall. She’s more than capable of understanding when her teammates are wide open. They set the screen. Pass to Billings. Now Burton. Now Martin. Started now by Aunga. And here’s Martin. Can they get it? And she hits the jump shot. Dallas leading. Pass to James. Unloads and there are the wings with another bucket. Just really good awareness right there on the assist. It’s Burton. Thon outside. to the inside. The rebound by Sebras and here’s James, releases Burton with the rebound. Now Zelisini, no scoring yet from her, but that’s likely to change. And the shot goes down. Heads up. Aggressive play right there. Saw the smaller defender on her and took it straight to the bucket for the easy two. Here’s Auma and Dallas again with the bucket. That’s a clean look they gave her there, fellas. And I mean she she drains those so I wouldn’t give her too many of those looks if I was the defense. And that does it for the first quarter. It’s the Wings up by four. And we’ve got more in store for you right after this. And now the second quarter just getting set to begin. And looking at what we’ve seen from the Wings, what do you guys think? It’s been a solid first half for them offensively. Really in tune with each other. Yeah, good ball movement and it’s paid off on the scoreboard for sure. Pass to Carrington. Here’s James. Jacks up a three. Bag Denlay with the rebound. Hayes covered by Carrington. Six on the shot clock. Lets the three fly. Good for the basket. Starting off one for one with that shot. I mean, the only explanation is someone must have gotten their signals crossed if she winds up that wide open in three-point range. And I’m sure that was not the plan from deep here. Grabs the board. Some room here for Tiffany Hayes. Hits the jumper in space. There just something so sweet, so pretty about a lefty jumper. Haze canning one there. Pass to James from the arc. Drills the three-pointer. Good pass work. The assist was right on target. Now Talbbert. A minute and a half gone in the second quarter. Down low. Here’s Binley. So she gets the whistle. Contact on the way up. Two shots next. And coaching so difficult in this league. What do you think is an underrated skill for head coaches? Motivation. I mean, there are so many games. The travel is difficult. So having your team at close to 100% is big. Making sure they’re locked in. And I think it’s rotations and fitting the pieces together. You want to find out what the best combinations are because it’s about more than just throwing talent out there. That free throw missing. Good on the second free throw. Pass to Carrington. Now James launches it. Tries again and no good. Trying to use the glass. Now a me here and so she earns a trip to the line. Official saw the contact and she’ll shoot two. And first trip to the free throw line for her in this one. And the first one falls forward. And the wings making a change here. So she gets them both. Here’s a good wall. Pass to James. They get it back and it’s in. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Go go go go quarter two and just under two and a half minutes gone by. Pass to Hayes. Now Bentley. You don’t want to get in the habit of letting the offense get right to the rim. And that’s the message they were sending with that foul, saying nothing easy inside with that one. Yeah, but they got to play a little bit better defense before they get inside. And she’ll take her third and fourth free throw shots of the night. And the first one at the line is good. And that one goes in two from the line that time. And as the WNBA continues to grow, the leadership we’re seeing throughout the league has been great. Both on the players and league sides, some great people in charge doing what’s right for the future. Absolutely, Brian. And the big thing, everybody’s on the same page. They all want to advance the sport, advance the league, and continue to to just be an elite uh product. Guarded now by Agunda. Just five to shoot inside. A nice shot by Fenlay. Give an assist there. uh not for a pass but for the solid screen set on the inside that freed her up and really just made that layup possible. Pass to Carrington outside Hines Allen and she floats it in for the easy two. Credit the assist on that one. An excellent passing big. Hines Allen has great vision. And here in the second quarter of action as we approach four minutes played. A baseline Jay rebound Dallas. Well, she didn’t have a hand in her face, so I thought she was for sure going to bury that. Pass to Goomba. Hines Allen with it. Harrington stolen by a knee here. Now here is Hayes down low. Vandelisini good on the shot. She just used her height that time down low. That’s a pretty hard play to defend against Dallas trailing here. Ambal with it. Pass to Carrington. Hines Allen. Six to shoot. Screen by Hines Allen. Here’s James and can’t cash in from close range. Outside Hayes. And here’s Xanderini to the left wing. It’s stolen by Carrington. Out to the wing. Here’s James and it’s all evened up. Nice feed as Carrington finds a teammate with an even better look. That’s just good offense. And when it comes to San Diego native Dane Carrington, a word you hear a lot when her teammates describe her is effort. You’re not going to find too many players who work harder than she does. Whether it’s on defense or in the off season or in practice, she is always trying to improve. Pass to Hayes. Five on the clock. Second chance shot. That one wide left. Well, I’m going to say the defense got pretty lucky right there because she’s going to make a lot more of those than she misses when she gets that much work. Now James good. And the assist goes to Agumal. She is just bombing it today. How many more threes are we going to see from her? Well, we’ve already seen a lot. I mean, she’s got more points from outside the arc than inside the arc. Bag Benley can’t hit. Stolen, missed inside. Wow. This quarter has been ugly for her. And it’s not showing signs of turning around anytime soon. Her touch is all but gone. Pass to Carrington to the middle. Here’s Hines Allen and Dallas again with the bucket. Well, just a fantastic touch around the rim. Hines Allen, you call her a finisher down low. Here’s Zandelini. Hayes with it. Cust off the run. They grab their own miss. Dallas leading and they have certainly been looking locked in offensively. They sure have staying aggressive and playing in control. Outside Aumal from outside the arc. Tiffany Hayes grabs the miss. Passes on. Pulls up. She’s good with a little jumper in close. Here’s Harrington looking for first basket still in this one outside of here’s Hines Alleni pulls it in to the inside. Guarded now by Agunga. Good D by Enrique Aungawal. over to the left wing and that one’s good. James, yet another three for her. She’s really been draining them here in the second. So, we conclude the first half. Wings out in front, leading by six. And we’ll step away briefly, but get you right back out there for the start of the third quarter after the break. And now the start of the second half. Neither side jumping out ahead through the first two quarters. Pass to Macauen James and again it’s Dallas with a three. If they’re going to be successful they need her scoring and certainly they’ve gotten it today and then some. And here’s Burton. Thornton outside. She loves up the alley pass. What a pass. And she lays it in with the circus move. Woo. That is so smooth. Yeah, she could have messed that up by going for a big time slam. I applaud her for going for the layup. Now James pass to Macauan laid in with a nice touch off the glass. I mean come on. You think a little tap is going to stop Macauan? No way. She’s just too tough. Now Billings. And with a little over a minute gone by, the second half underway. Burton can’t hit. Here’s the Wings with the ball. They lead by the biggest margin of the game, nine. Pass to James. Out to Hines Allen. Stolen by Kayla Thornton. And here’s Burton. Martin guarded now by Aungawal. Here’s Talbot and she was fouled on the way up. Two free throws for her. It’s going to be on Maisha Hines Allen and this is her first free throw of the game. The first one falls. Both shots good from the strike. And we’re just about 2 minutes into the second half now. Outside Hines Allen Pastoal. Now James shot clock at six. There’s a screen by Macauan. Valet pulls it in. And here’s Burton. Pass to Billings. Macauan. And that one’s good. Billings. They can’t afford to give you that kind of look. Well, it came off a good screen, but still as a defender, you have to fight over the top of it. And he needs some help as well. Right side in back. Baseline jumper. That shot no good. Here’s Talbot. Pass to Burton. Now Martin guarded now by Aunga. shoots it up and that one’s good. Billy, a little under two and a half minutes off the clock now in the third quarter. Outside Aumal and a foul called on the shot. Got her on the way up that time. So, she’ll shoot two. You look at Enrique Agumbal’s scoring numbers, they’re historically good. Now, she came into the 2024 season averaging 20.5 points per game. That’s the third best average ever. And only Rana Stewart has a better career average amongst active players. I mean, Enrique’s offensive arsenal is unreal. And she makes the first. And for all the success Aunwal has had in the WNBA, her heroics at the college level still really stand out. Absolutely. Her buzzer beater to win the national title in 2020 is a magical moment. And it was no layup. We’re talking about a fadeaway three with the defender all over her. That’s also good. So she hits them both. What stands out about Enrique Obal is that she’s not just a volume scorer. She’s also, you know, fearless with the ball. Anytime she finds a shot, she just won’t hesitate to take it. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Just over three and a half minutes through the third quarter play now. Here’s Martin. Guarded now by Agumba to the paint. A good finish at the rack off the slick feed. The ability to read pick and rolls is important. Thornton showing there that she possesses this really difficult understanding. And here’s James. She’s got 22. Pass to Hines Allen. Shot clock at five. Over Thornton the wings with another miss. Martin Hines Allen with the swat. Not in her house. Hines Allen engaged defensively. Now here’s a goomba covered by Thornton. So the whistle blows on the shot. Two free throws for the contact there on the night. She’s two for two at the stripe. and she knocks down the first one. So, both teams making some changes here. And so she makes both from the line. Now here is Hayes. They set the pick down low. Deflects the pass. Pass to James. Another shot. Misses the layup. Terrific job defending the basket that time. It’s not an easy task stopping her when she’s headed to the rim. John Dellesini can’t get it to go. Dallas leading. Macauan with the ball. Now James from past the arc and it’s Billings with the rebound. Thornton pass to Hayes. Five on the clock and the layup falls. A big time battle inside. Tiffany Hayes winning that one. So, it’s Dallas now. Their biggest lead of the game was nine. And the officials will call the illegal screen here. Those those types of mistakes are magnified when it’s a tight game like this. Very close call there on the illegal screen. I’d go along with it. You know, to me, it didn’t really look like her feet were set. Now here is Hayes. Tight defense on her and she gets the bucket. Well, a quick first step is only a part of what makes Hayes so elusive. Time called here. The Wings decide to talk it over. Heat up Heat up here. Heat up here. So it’s Dallas now. They lead by one. That one drops for her. The defense cannot forget about her like that. If you do, she will light you up. Thornton outside. Foul called that time on the way up. And that’ll give her two chances at the free throw line. Yeah, that’s just a courageous drive by Kayla Thornton. Mixes it up with the defense and gets fouled while shooting. It’s her first trip to the line. And the first one drops. Well, Kayla Thorne loves these freebies and she’s able to contribute a lot for her team. He hits both from the strike. Pass to James. The three is up. Drills it from outside. There aren’t many players more reliable from three-point range than she is, especially when the D’s playing soft on her. And here is Xandelisini covered by Carrington. Here’s Zandelini. Puts up a three. Good on the triple. Oh, some quick uh retaliation right there, huh, guys? Yeah, it sure didn’t take him long to go and get those three points back. Pass the Carrington James covered by Thornton. They set a pick. Six to shoot. Count it. And she’ll have a chance for the three-point play. It’s going to go on Leticia knee here. Heat up here. trailing by four. Fast asini of me here. The fadeaway not going to go that time. And we’ve watched three so far in this one. It’s the Wings. They lead by four. And we’re coming back right after this break to get the fourth quarter started. And welcome back as we get rolling once more. Fourth quarter right ahead in what’ll be a very well contested game. A four-point game. Outside Hayes back. Benlay fades and she tries off the glass but it’s no good. Pass to Carrington. Hines Allen with it. She’s covered by me here. Six on the shot clock now. Here’s Amba over Hayes. Ambal good. Now Zandelisini Ai here covered by Hines Allen with the steal. One minute in now to the fourth quarter. And so she draws the foul on the shot. A trick to the line to shoot two. It goes on Tiffany Hayes. Once Auma gets inside, she’s good at either converting, drawing contact, or both. First free throw is good. and good on the second. So she makes boat. Just over a minute played here in the fourth to the middle. It’s stolen by Seagris. Great play to sacrifice her body. Take the charge. giving up her body for the team and really a heads up play as well. Reads the play nicely and gets in the perfect position outside. Hayes about a minute and a half through the fourth quarter now. Enrique Aungawal with some nice deep Pass to Carrington. Gets alive. Hines Allen with it. A me here. Honor her. Down to five on the shot clock. Second shot opportunity. Hines Allen. Good. A high IQ player on offense. Hines. Allen knows the value of the mid-range. Outside Hayes pass to Venlay. The kick out to Hayes. There’s a screen. He can’t get it to go. And it’s the Wings ball here in the fourth quarter. Their defense has been very strong allowing no baskets. Now screen by Seagris goes back up. No good there. And just about 3 minutes through the fourth and final quarter here. That one goes in. She did so well to lead her teammate right to the ideal spot. That’s the kind of playmaking coaches like to see outside a wall. Harington the three-pointer off the mark here in the fourth quarter. Just under 2 and 1/2 minutes gone by. Zellesini and she nails that one right through the net. Superb assist. She was crafty, creative, and the ultimate teammate on that play. Screen by Hines Allen inside. That one falls coming off Enrique Agumbal’s nice feed. Given assist there not for a pass, but for the solid screen set on the inside that freed her up and really just made that layup possible. Bag Venlay covered by Seagris. The first free throw is good. And the wings making a change here. That one falls. So she hits both of them. Dallas leading outside. Ambal nailed from three-point land scoring off the ball. Agumbal so active on this end. Pass to Martin. Burton to the inside. Martin, no bueno. Cuts off the pass. One-on-one fast break. And here’s Burton over to the wing. Here’s Vag Benley. Macauan defending. Five to shoot. Pass to Burton. Beats the shot clock but can’t get it to fall. Here’s the Wings with the ball. Wing shot on the way. And there are the Wings with another bucket. Intelligent passing to make that basket possible. Heat. Heat. Oh, heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Now Thton picked by Thornton beyond the arc. That one no good. Here’s Dallas now. They lead by 11. The largest margin of the game. Here’s James from long range. That’s all good. And that’s her fifth basket of the game. She’s shooting 5 for 11 now. And here’s Martin to end the run. And that’s two points on the layup. Walle with it. Pass to Macauan to the wing on the left. And again, it’s Dallas with a three. What a final quarter they’re having from downtown. A bunch of threes falling for them. And they might as well keep going back to the well. Work that perimeter while they’re hot and work it to the final whistle out to the right wing. Here’s Billings. Macauan defending inside. Martin soft touch off the glass. That’s the area where they’d like all their shots to come from. Passal Macauan. Clock at six. Here’s James. And again, it’s Dallas converting. Might as well tack a few more points in the lead. I suppose this is going to be a dominant win for them. Dominant is the right word for it, Tim. This one was about as one-sided as it gets. One-way traffic. Jeez. Now Billings. Macauan defending. Pass to Martin. fires the three, hits the three-point bomb, and it’s the Wings ball. The biggest lead of the game, 15 points outside, Aumal. And again, it’s the Wings from deep. This is a serious game clinching run they’re on. They are just not backing off and they’re going to close this one out in style. What a surge. Give them credit just to to finish this one off. Now Martin out to the wing. Six to shoot. Takes the three. The rebound by the Wings. And so it’s Dallas easily grabbing this one. A solid win on the road for them. And this building was dead silent by the time this one wound down. That’s what you want to do. Take the crowd out of it by crunch time. Don’t give them a chance to lift their team up at the finish. And that’ll wrap it up. Heat. Heat.
