Dolphins in Depth: Dolphins secondary holding their own (training camp Day 3)
Day three of training camp is in the books. The Miami Dolphins are ready to open up practice to the fans on Saturday. Uh my name is Omar Kelly. I am Miami Herald columnist. Uh joining me is Isaiah Smalls, the Miami Heralds Dolphins beat writer, and we are here to tell you what you missed at training camp today. Um one thing I can tell you, you didn’t see any touchdowns. Uh, you didn’t see any interceptions because we’ve gone three days, no touchdowns, no interceptions, but it’s been I don’t know if I’m able to say a defense dominated training camp so far, even though the defense is usually ahead of the offense. Um, and I would say the I think you can say I think you can say it’s been a a slight do a slight domination, you know, slight. I was looking at the our notes today and I’m like, okay, two yard gain, two yard gain, two yard gain, backfield, backfield stop, backfield stop, backfield stop, backfield stop. So, I mean, I it looks a little bit like a and and to, you know, put a minor asterric on what you said about zero touchdowns. There have been zero offensive touchdowns, but I am a firm believer that yesterday that scoop and score from Cam Smith would have counted. I just he was untouched. There was virtually nobody there. I’m I’m I’m gonna give credit where credit is due. Okay. All right. Cool. Um, interesting that you bring up Cam Smith because my column in the Miami Herald for today addresses the cornerback. Now, obviously, I think that that’s probably the area where there is the most concern from a fan base, from media perspective, because most of us like something more. They needed some veterans. Well, the Dolphins after they lost Arty Burns, they did add a veteran. His name is Cornell Armstrong. He just so happens to be a former Dolphins sixth round pick. Um, hasn’t played in the NFL in two years. So, that’s not exactly the veteran that most people wanted. But I will say this, and I wrote this in the column, they haven’t been that bad. They haven’t been They have not been roasted. Tyreek has not gone off and if there’s anything that you know that’s a calling card to Miami Dolphins training camp it’s deep bombs to Tyreek which we haven’t seen. Uh now whether that’s the quarterbacks whether that’s Minka taking away the coverage that they they want to see and that’s something that Mike McDaniels did bring up. It’s that Minka um he’s taking away looks that they’re they’re looking for and forcing you to uh to go elsewhere, which is you know what good safeties do. Of course, uh Ma also has not talked to the media continue on. We’re on we’re on uh day 26 of MA silence since being traded to the Miami Dolphins. Um I’m I’m fine. I’m over it. I don’t think he has a choice whether or not he wants to be here or not. What What is the silence about? Isaiah, you tell me. I don’t know. I mean, look, as as I said yesterday, I really think that it’s just him trying to get a better handle of his own feelings before having a bunch of cameras shoved in his face. That’s my opinion. Now, this is not supported by fact or anything. This is just if I was in his position, you know, you know what, uh, less than a month away from training camp, you know, I’m settling into my new digs or not new digs, but settling into my my home in in Pittsburgh and now I got to, you know, go back to Miami, find a new home, you know, uh, all that all that fun stuff. Like, I mean, it’s taxing, right? Like, of course, these guys get paid, you know, millions of dollars to to play a a game, right? To play a sport, but at the end of the day, they’re still real people, right? they still have emotions, right? And so I don’t think I’m not taking it personally, right? I know some guys in our media room are very much so taking it personally. I personally he takes everything personally anyway. But I just I I just think personally like look and I think the Dolphins are, you know, right to respect that, right? Like until he himself knows what he wants to say, knows how he wants to address the fan base, all that fun stuff. like you gotta, you know, take it with a a grain of salt, right? Not push him outside of his comfort zone because let’s not forget like he is um according to McDaniel, according to Tua, like he is a quiet leader, right? He’s more of a guy that shows it by action. Um he’ll speak up obviously when when needed to, but he is naturally a a reserved individual, right? which you can’t uh discount that when you’re when you’re asking um you know a guy to appear in front of a camera, go to a podium, all that stuff that are requirements of the job for sure, but still are a bit unnatural uh to just to be frank, right? Like it’s still weird to shove cameras in people’s faces and it’s it’s still something that, you know, as a journalist I’m still trying to get get over because I I still feel weird asking someone a question and then putting the camera right there, right? So I mean it it is what it is though. I think it’s just the reality of the situation, right? And so hopefully he’ll he’ll talk tomorrow. I think that’ll be what he has to talk by NFL rules, right? We not going I’m just saying like that’s the that what what is that? That’s negotiate under the CBA. Like you know, I’m just I’m just it it it we’ll see. I I don’t I I would not wait for Supposedly, according to the C rules, everybody’s required to talk every week. I’m I’m not holding him to that. Um, I’m sure we’ll get to that point eventually. I’m not trying to make anybody know anybody any enemies trying to give them projected def. N will talk when he’s ready to talk. And maybe he’s hoping we just lose interest. That’s not I think he’s made it worse. Oh, he’s made it 110% worse. But I don’t think that he’s not I don’t think he necessarily realizes that though because I mean nowadays with these players right and just speaking you know from my own you know experience and being you know in their age range like they believe that you know social media is their tool to push out any messages right so if he had something to say that he himself wanted to say like it would be out there already right and so maybe like I said he’s still trying figure out the emotions, all that fun stuff. And when it’s time, it’ll happen, right? It’ll it’ll happen. You guys, you the fans, y’all be the first to know. Trust us. Um, what do you think about what’s going on with the cornerbacks? Yeah. Are they doing well? It’s so it’s a really tricky situation. I’m happy that you addressed this in your in your column because to your point, there hasn’t been any huge plays on the offensive side of the ball, but on this on the flip side of that, there hasn’t been any turnovers that the quarterbacks have created, right? And granted, last year wasn’t necessarily a turnoverprone group, right? But that was one of the things that we thought as as the media that they were going to address, right? And so to this end, they haven’t done that yet. Look, Stormduck got his hands on a few balls today. It was pretty impressive. He had a few uh PBUS, which was cool. They haven’t been terrible, right? They haven’t. But at the same time, I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop, right? Because, and maybe it’s just simply because of the unproven nature of that room, right? I think we we talked about it uh the other day, right? It or we talked about it earlier today. I think they said it was mostly undrafted guys and seven seven un undrafted guys undrafted guys first round pick and Arty Burns who’s now on IR and a sixth round pick right that was where where uh no Kendall Sherfield’s a fourth round pick fourth round pick yes you got Cam Smith who is a second round pick round pick yes of course uh and then Jason Marshall Jr who is a fifth round pick fifth round pick okay so that is to me just mind and Cornell Armstrong who’s now of course a six round pick. So it’s just it’s look I personally if I was a Dolphins fan I would not feel comfortable entering in this season with that quarterback room quarterback room. It’s just there’s just it’s one big question mark right and of course we haven’t seen you know huge leaks but I’m I’m waiting for it and maybe it doesn’t happen. Maybe I I don’t think we’ll truly know until that first joint practice against the Bears. I think that’s when we’ll we’ll fully fully understand or or hopefully Tuesday once the pad comes on. Once the pads come on, I think those are the two moments that I’m looking forward to in terms of truly being able to gauge the the quartbacks right now because look, you know, to your point, got to give credit where credit’s due. There hasn’t they haven’t looked as bad as I thought they would. Personally, I would say the offensive line looks worse. Just Yeah. And yeah, honestly, maybe that’s a strength. Maybe that’s because your defensive line might be a strength of your team. Um, we we had a lot of opportunity to get to know uh some of the players from Jaylen Phillips who talked and I found it very interesting. I’m I’m surprised that nobody really harped on this because I never knew. I’ve only covered the NFL for now 18 years. Covered football for good god 26 years. And Jaylen Phillips was the first person to ever say that an Achilles injury is harder to come back from than uh an ACL. Never he said that before though, has he? Yeah, he has said that before. I think that was just the first time I think now that I think about it. He said it before at mini during mini camp when he talked, but I think you were off trying to do another interview. Uh because I I was I was there and obviously we fan out. But yeah, he he definitely has said that before. It makes sense though. It does. It does. Considering how much weight you put on that Achilles, right? Like it’s Yeah. Yeah. Walk for four months and with Achilles he had to use a boot, had to use the scooter. And it does kind of make sense. And with the ACL, he said, “I could get around, you know, on my on my own.” But I find it very not I’m not surprised because I and I’ve always said this, Jaylen Phillips probably has, you know, the best physique of any NFL player that I’ve ever seen. Just cuz he looks like an Adonis. He’s he’s big, he’s strong, he’s got less than 10% body fat. Um he works hard. So I’m not surprised that he’s back at 9 months. Um he talked about OTAAS and mini camp being sort of a tease because they let him out there, but they didn’t unleash him. Um and him and Bradley Chub, they both been unleashed. They they’ve worked every day. They have their reps limited today. And what they did when their rep were limited is they sprinted on the side uh when they were not on the field. Yes. And I I personally that’s what I wrote my story about right because to me it’s indicative of this new culture of accountability that they’ve said that they’ve tr that they’re trying to institute right now. Again like it’s it might just be all talk right but to me to me between seeing those sprints right and then of course post-practice sprints where you know guys now for those that don’t um don’t know they are officially the players team leaders are tracking the missteps right the the false starts the off sides any sort of penalties that are um that can be thrown any sort of penalty flags that can be thrown excuse me the team leaders are tracking those and if you mess up you are running at the end of practice that is something that is team le and to me I know we we’ve been kind of searching for concrete examples of like, okay, what what does this new culture look like? And that to me is the closest that we’ve seen so far, right? And I think it’s closer to, you know, I think you said, was it Gay or Flores who had the the when you had to go touch the wall? Yeah, Flores. The take no TNT. Take no talent. Take no talent wall. You made a mistake. If you made a mistake in practice, you had to leave practice. leave that drill, go run across the field and touch the TNT wall and then come back. And in that time that it takes you to go touch the wall, you’ve been replaced by somebody else. Um because it technically takes no talent. Now, that only lasted for a year because of a lot of wasted time. Um here’s my thing about these sprints and these extra workouts. It’s week one. highlight me when we get to August 25th. Of course. Yes. You know, and Mike McDaniel pointed out this is player le and for the record everybody and this is something that I have been asking all of my friends who have played in the league years and years and years because it’s something that I really wanted to get a full understanding of. The question that I’ve asked them, I just asked Patman Jones this, who sets the culture of a team? Is it the coach or is it the players? And it’s pretty, I asked Channing Crow, it’s pretty much unanimous. The players said the culture of the team. Coaches have nothing to do with, okay, culture of the team. Okay. Um, it’s the locker room polices itself. The coaches do not police the locker room. And so, you know, all everybody who’s like, “Oh, Mike McDaniels this softy or Mike McDaniels, you know, this soft guy or Mike McDaniels runs a loosey goosey ship.” Um, I have asked and pretty much everybody said coaches have nothing to do with a team culture. Um, so you know, but and Mike McDaniel has even said this culture is created by the players and Mike McDaniel is a player empowerment coach. He’s not going to stray from that. He, this locker room, this team is led by his players. It’s led by his leadership council. And the leader, even even Zach Cer said, you know, he’s working primarily because he needs to show the young people the way. So, you know, how long will this run last? I I I’m I’m curious to see. I’m not saying that they’re frauds. I’m not saying that, you know, they they they they’re only doing it because we’re looking and watching. Um will it make a difference? I don’t know because I personally think culture, the culture of your team, the makeup of your team. We learn that when you get punched in the face, of course. Yeah. And nobody’s punching them in the face right now. So, of course, I mean, look, but that’s why I’m saying I have that uh what is that? August 10th, no, 10th, 9th is going to be the joint practice, right? Whenever that joint practice is against the Bears, that’s what I’m looking for. Actually, not even I’m actually not going to point to that one because I think that’s a new team that’s still trying to figure out their identity, right? Obviously, new head coach. I’m looking next week towards Detroit because that is a team that plays hard. Yeah. And when they will get punched in the mouth that week and when that happens, I want to see how they respond personally because that that’s like I said, Dan Campbell, he he knows how to get them boys going. So, that’s what I’m going to be looking forward to. Interesting. That’s a very good point. And I I I know both coaches and I know Dan and Dan is man Dan is intense. So, his team is intense. Exactly. Um I I for I for a famous story, uh Dan Campbell’s first day of training camp practice, first day, no, first day of he became the interim coach of the Miami Dolphins, the first drill was the Oklahoma drill, which Yes, that was that was that was stretching from stretching to Oklahoma drill. Oklahoma. Oh, that’s crazy. Yeah, that that’s Dan. And what what week of the season was this had like was it uh it he coached like they fired it midseason. Which coach was that? Um that was midseason. No, no. Five week six. Week six. I mean that’s still you’re still in the thick of it right there. Like that’s that’s rough. That’s that’s what that’s the culture that he wants to create and the and the tone and the tempo. Um Oklahoma drill baby. I I I I don’t think I I I challenge Mike McDaniel. I challenge you to do an Oklahoma drill first day of pads. You’re funny. Challenge. Oh no. Uh yeah, it it but but think about it. Mike knows the reputation of his team. He knows he knows everybody says his team’s soft finesse. Um they know their reputation. They they fight against it. Uh they they get offended, but who who likes being called soft? No one does. Especially the especially when you play in a league that’s so much wrapped into like masculinity and all that, you know, you’re not gonna, you know. Yeah. Being called soft is not going to fly for sure. Absolutely not at all. Um, so you know, may maybe the Dolphins need a little bit of Oklahoma drill. Like I’m just saying I’m not mad at it. Like that’s why I laugh so hard because one, you’re right, they do need it. Two, it’s not gonna happen. So like that’s why I laugh that hard because I just I can’t imagine that happening. But you know, stranger things have happened like a like a Tyreek versus Storm Duck. Oh, why why you got Nah, hold on. If we gonna do an Oklahoma drill, Tyreek got to sit that one out. Okay. I mean, I’m like, oh, like that’s what I was saying. I was like, how deep are we trying to go? We having like franchise players going against, you know, like hey, back in them days, back in no back in the D camp days, it didn’t matter. You you going in. That’s scary to me. That’s so scary. I don’t know how you explain that to the the GM, explain that to the owner, like, “Hey, so uh we lost our franchise guy drills in week seven. Like, you might get fired on the spot.” Yo, like that’s crazy. Hey, Dan wanted to create an identity and you know, hey, he’s found it. He certainly found it. He did. He did. Um, so let’s talk about what happened today at practice. Uh, they’re okay. It’s not I don’t think I I watched them for three days. I can’t tell you anything about the Miami Dolphins outside of I don’t really like the offensive line. Pass rushing is looks pretty good. Um I to Yeah, I like the front seven in general. I mean, the the linebackers made a few more plays today, too, in both both units, right? You had guys that are projected starters. I don’t think I’m violating any rules by saying Jordan Brooks is going to be a starter, right? Um him making plays, but then also the guys behind him making plays as well. Uh I had Willie Gay Jr. as um one of my top performers for today cuz what about Derek McClendon? Oh, I did have him as one of my top I was about to say like that to me if we’re if we’re picking out a linebacker who had the most impressive day, I gotta go Derek McClendon. He had what? A a a sack and a and a and a uh fumble recovery. I believe that to me that’s a that’s a good day. I put him in there. He was in there. Good day. I know. I’m just saying. You know what I Let me say what I say want to say about Willie Willie Gay Jr. and I’ve noticed this from OTAAS. He’s always around the ball. He’s a playmaker. Yeah. Um Yeah. This is a guy who started 55 NFL games. Watching him reminds me a lot of Anthony Walker Jr. where I was like, “This guy is a lot better than a backup.” Um, like if if you were to tell if you were to ask me who is the backup that has the best chance to become a starter, my answer would be Willie Gay Jr. Wow. Yeah. And you can also to kind of add value to that, you can also see the energy with which he plays with, right, McDaniel? I mean, we’ve seen it throughout OTAAS. He’s just he’s like a ball of energy. He’s always hopping out up and down. He’s, you know, got a smile on his face. And then, you know, I believe it was McDaniel who said yesterday, either either either today or or earlier today or earlier in this week, excuse me, that Willie Gay Jr. is one of those like energy guys, right? That has been just really really helping the team in terms of just bringing the energy to practice, right? It’s we’re in the dog days of summer, right? It’s not quite the mid the midway point through training camp, but look, it’s hot. You know, they they doing they starting stuff early. Like, you need those guys that are that are walking balls of energy that just bring life to the team, right? And Willie Gay Jr. certainly appears to be one of those guys. So, look, that’s a more power to Chris Greer on that signing for sure. Oh, it was veteran minimum. Like, come on. But as Willie A Junior said, nobody else offer me a deal. Like it I was like, you know, I got I gotta take it. And he looks like he’s happy to work, too. Um, for sure. Uh, let let’s I brought up in my observation, my stock up was Mr. Quinn. Hey, look, I I I’m not going to say I told you so, but I said it earlier in the week that this man looks better. I don’t know what it is. I’m just noticing a lot less interceptions. And then you tell you tell me what happened today because I I feel like I’m the only one waving that flag. I was waving that flag, you know. What flag you trying to say? He should be the number two. I did not say all that. Whoa. Hold on. But what flag are you waving? What flag are you waving? I’m waving the improvement flag because I was I was kind of worried and during uh OTAAS and many like I was worried watching him cuz it didn’t look like he understood anything. It was like they would do a lot of okay you there was a lot of Tua coming over like okay this this this there was a lot of interceptions like it was man the defense was feasting off of him but he looked great today. I’mma be honest he looked great. I don’t know about great. Let’s calm down a little bit. He looked great. He had two backto-back at the end at the end of the drill. He had two backtoback uh passes that were over 20 yards. Here’s my thing about that. And I I respect Mike and I I’ve been with Mike long enough. I know how he he always wants to finish practice on a positive note for the offense obviously. Um, but I would have loved to have seen what happened if they continued that drill. It cuz the second catch to Tanner Connor, practice ended. It’s like, okay, if I just threw two 20 yard passes, I would like to continue to go. Uh, um, and see see what happens. But, you know, props to Quinns for getting my my stock up today. Uh, Ali Gordon II got my stock down because he put the ball on the ground. Of course. Of course. Um, so you know, I I I interceptions and fumbles, turnovers are the main indicator of whether or not to me a team is going to win or lose a game. So, um, so it those who who deliver it and those who produce it, um, you know, you’re always going to get stock up or stock down. So, uh, other observations, I would say Nick Westbrook A caught a ball. Well, congratulations. Welcome to training camp. Uh um uh let me see. Tight ends. I saw a lot of Hayden Ruchcci um getting more active, more involved. Uh this is his second year in training camp with the Dolphins and I would hate to say he jumped ahead of a tight end. Um, but then I saw a lot of Tanac Connor working with other units, which was like, hm, did did did was there was there a movement there on the depth chart? Offensive linewise, I don’t like the backups at all. And I think it impacts everybody’s work. That’s just it impacts how Zack Wilson work performs. It impacts how the offensive linemen perform. I mean, impacts how the running backs perform. Uh, I’m not necessarily certain I can name you a good backup offensive lineman. Andrew Meyer looked has looked serviceable. I mean, he looks serviceable filling, but he’s a starter right now because Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, look, I’m I’m I’m thinking I mean, he hasn’t We haven’t had any issues. That’s real. That’s real. I’m thinking I’m thinking of September. But I I I mean, look, Isaiah Isaiah wins a phone call away, man. Um I just don’t see it getting better. Larry Broom, Ryan Hayes, Jackson Carman, Keon Smith, Braden Daniels, uh, Daniel Bun Brunskill, uh, better pick up the phone call as they win. I I don’t I I mean, am I wrong? I like I No, you’re not. You’re not. I think from the small sample size that we saw some of these guys play last year, it wasn’t uh wasn’t much to be desired, right? And so you you look at the performance so far this year and it’s it’s not it’s not great, right? And so offensive line, as we’ve, you know, mentioned time and time again, it’s one of those positions where you you got to have some good twos in there because odds are someone’s probably going to go down, right? It’s one of those thankless positions that you know look what what did Terron Armstead tell us? He was playing with basically no knees the last his last what seven or so weeks right so it is a position that is very taxing on the body so you want to have good backups and it just doesn’t necessarily look like they have that right now. Um, specifically, you can say that the even the the second defensive line is really eating off of, you know, those those second offensive linemen, right? Second team offensive lineman, which I don’t think it’s I don’t think I’m able to even get a good assessment of where the defensive line is. and and and that’s a disappointing standpoint when you consider you came into this season knowing your offensive line was trash last year and for it still not to be good. Did you do your job? Seems almost intentional, huh? Seems almost intentional. Did Did you I’m just saying. Did you do your job as a GM to improve your your your offensive line? I mean, at some point you got to wonder if you’re setting up the quarterback cuz it’s um defensively, as I said, it’s it’s impossible for me to get an assessment on this off on on this defensive line because I have no idea how good this offensive line is. And truthfully speaking, they’re not good. Um Jaylen Phillips and Bradley Chub and Chop Robinson, they just look like beasts. And even Derek Mcclen McClennon, congratulations, Derek. You’re looking like a beast out there. Grayson Murphy, you’re looking like a beast out there for sure. Why? For sure. Why? Cuz your offensive line is really, really mediocre. Um, secondary wise, as I said, I don’t have an issue. I I I I can’t really and it’s not like I could say, “Oh, one guy is really doing well.” It’s everybody’s Everybody’s okay. Everybody’s doing their job. No, that’s real. I think Go ahead. They don’t have any turnovers, but I can’t sit here. There are Let me put it this way. There are no Noah Igman monogies in the secondary. And for those who have followed my work and know Noah used to get picked on every damn day of training camp if two saw no on the field to like I’m going over that. And it got to the point where Skyler was like oh no’s on the field I’m going over that like it there’s there’s nobody that you could really pick on and say that’s a weak link. I I can’t tell you who’s a weak link. How much of that do you think is the pass rush really getting home though? Because more often than not, right, Tua hasn’t necessarily had a clean pocket. Okay, that’s fair. So, and if and remember like that is one of the things that I think they’re banking on, right? Like I really think that they’re betting heavily on this pass rush to say look like you know they can’t they can’t stop us. And so we got y’all boys back there because they can’t stop us. And you know just hearing the way Jaylen Phillips and Chub talk about it, right? You know Jaylen said today like we’re we’re the big dogs, right? That’s why they’re doing those sprints over there too because it’s showing like look that’s the standard. This is the standard that that we’re setting. We are the team leaders. I think he called himself the the edge rusher unit, the edge rusher room, excuse me, the engine of this team specifically of that defense as well. So, I’m and so this is a question. I’m just wondering how much of that I don’t I you make a very valid point because I’m thinking about it now. It’s not like two has got all day. I haven’t seen a deep pass from two all all day. No, he’s gotten like a few 20 yarders here and there to like waddle, right? But it’s not nothing 30 40 50. Definitely not. Not at all. Now, maybe that’s because he doesn’t have time to throw it. Um, I don’t know. I I can honestly tell you I don’t know. I don’t know the answer. I don’t I really truly don’t know the answer. It’s a combination of things, but I can tell you the quarterbacks look fine. They’re all right. They they you know, if Kendall F if it it could have been Kendall Fuller out there. I It’s It looks It looks okay. Um, so we’ll see how long this lasts. On that note, we’ve got training camp tomorrow. What time is tomorrow? Start 95. 9:05. We got the fans there tomorrow, too. Yeah, fans. And keep in mind, you know, I have not been too hot out there. Is it the big Is it the Big A fans? It is the Big A fans, man. Shout out Big A fans. maybe come through with a little bit of We probably should say their names in order to get the sponsorship, but but that is the names that that it’s it’s it’s it the on the fans it says big butt cheek fans like and it it is true. It I wouldn’t know what to I didn’t even we were calling it that before we even realized it says that’s real. Yeah. Um, they’ve been they’ve been they turned the fan on on top of us and it’s always been breezy. It’s always been cool. So, I’m curious to see if the fans feel feel the result of the Big A fans. Um, uh, it’s always hot out there, but you know, um, there was also something new about fans get to nominate other fans. Yes. Yes. Yeah. Before we wrap up, basically it’s a orange jersey fan day situation, right? As you guys I’m sure know orange jersey when given to a player is meant to denote the standout from the previous practice right and you one of the perks is you get to you know control the music among many other things right uh today was Kater Kohu right uh yeah an okay playlist by my standard oh I was wonder what would you hold on let me get your review on the Kater Ku playlist to be to be frank it was rather mid but look maybe it’s maybe it’s an age thing Maybe I’m I’m getting a little You’re aging out of music. Maybe I’m a Maybe I’m aging out of hip-hop a little bit cuz there are some songs I I turned around to everybody. I was like, I don’t know what this is. This is not okay. I can’t use the exact word that I used. Oh no, man. Kada. We got I’mma talk to him though because I want I want to hear what he’s hearing. So maybe maybe we got we gota work on that playlist. Kada we gota work on that playlist. He had some gems he had some gyms on there. I like the I know you don’t like the went legit G Herbo, but that’s a good that’s a good song. That’s a good song. I don’t care what you say. That is a good song. One of the worst rappers in the game right now. G Herbo. Yikes. Uh but get to get back to the um the Orange fan day. Before we wrap, let me just read out what the some of the stuff that the Dolphins sent to us. Okay, so one deserving fan will be selected as the Orange jersey fan of the day at all Dolphins training camp practices that are open to the public. The Miami Dolphins cornerback unit was the group most fans and critics were concerned about, but the group of no-name cornerbacks have held their own during the first three days of training camp. The cornerbacks haven’t produced an interception, but they also haven’t been scored on, and seem to be limiting Tyreek Hill’s usual dominance. How long will this last? The Dolphins in Depth podcast discusses their performance, Minkah Fitzpatrick’s continued silence, and what unit Dolphins fans should really be concerned about in this episode.

Are the DBs holding their own, or is the passing offense underwhelming/didn't make enough adjustments? đ¤
Omar is going to be so confused when he finds out Ethan Boner is on the team. In his defense, he is color blind. He can't see the white players on the team.
August 8th scrimmage vs the Bears. That's the day we will know a lot more about who is good, who is bad. Anything before that is just touch football
When can we expect the return of the illustrious Barry Jackson? I enjoy Isaiahâs input itâs just been a hot minute since weâve seen the GOAT Barry.
HI OMAR AND ISAIAH THANKS FOR THE GREAT SHOW â¤
Oklahoma drill is banned in the NFL.
The Dolphins were one of the least penalized teams under Flores (evidence to me the TNT wall was not a waste of time) Don Shula, Bill Belechek,Mike Tomlin are winners because they established a culture. Are these players you talked with have a better winning percentage than these guys? Teams where players establish their own culture donât win at the same level. Stop making excuses for McDaniels he sucks and stop hating on Flores for personal reasons
You canât judge the offensive line is shorts and T-shirts you have to wait for the pads come on shorts and T-shirt Olympics. Absolutely nothing to me.
I think Minkahs going to stay quiet with media and just work for most of the season and wait to see how Miami treats him, will they pay him if he plays well for us or dump him to another team
It's a little early to judge the OL, it takes time to gel. It's really too early to tell anything.
Great podcast Omar and Isiah good information. Omar please go knock on Xavier Howard door and tell him have your agent make a deal. We need a experience Cornerback. Or sign Gilmore
Omar is wrong, they are getting punched in the mouth every day by guys like Omar and the fan base picking at everything they do and doubting them.
Are we sure the receivers and OL aren't regressing as a whole?
Isiah your call Wynn , Omar is going to knock on Howard's door
Once again, it's Kendall SHEFFIELD not SHERFIELD. Also, it's LARRY BOROM NOT LARRY BROOM. Come on Omar pronounce the names correctly !!!
Whoâs not allowed to? Someone replay with the gossip.
OL is not until pads
As good as the Defense backfield seemingly is.. (and I hope and think they'll be just good enough) but I'm thinking it's a bit of tje coaches stacking the deck to build confidence in said secondary. That and no need to announce the the rest of the league how porous the defensive backfield may be. (again, im all for letting the youngins play n develop, especially with a potential top 5-10 Front 7 causing pressure and havoc)
In 1977 the fins started 5 rookies on defense that by the early 80's were the best defense in football. Two Super Bowl appearances. Maybe these young corners will duplicate that feat?
I think once the team starts with joint practices we will see what they pretty much look like.
Oklahoma Drills are no longer allowed in the NFL. Still, when Dan Campbell became interum coach they were. I also remember your story! One other thing about that story I suspect you remember as well. The following game they not only were more physical, they put the whooping on the Tennessee Titans 38-10 !
Give Grier a cut in pay due to lack of success!
McDaniel doesn't have the kahonies to do an Oklahoma drill.
Does Omar understand that every NFL team has backup offensive lineman problems? Also, he spent a few minutes telling us how coaches donât set the culture, and then proceeded to say Dan Campbell set the culture in Miami. đ¤Śââď¸đ¤ˇââď¸
Nobody cares if Minkah doesnât talk to you guysâŚ.nobody. Maybe, just maybe, he doesnât trust you guys. Why? Ooooh I donât know, maybe itâs because you media guys all took Jonathan Martinâs side and claimed he was getting bullied. Maybe it was because a certain individual in the media loved Brent Grimes wife and gave her a press pass so she could spread cancer in the locker room. Or maybe, just maybe, itâs because you guys loved Flores when the guy was clearly not a HC
Omar you just answered the question. The football team is the face of the coach.
Lions was soft til that got Dan Campbell,He would have been a great coach for us.Hard and Tough. Pittsburgh all of there coaches is nonsense
If this team did the Oklahoma drill – theyâd have to cancel the season. Everyone would be hurt.
Omar you need on the show with you. I want the Ass hole Omar Kelly act like you from CC your looking like your from Medley
Why did the Dolphins get rid of Kendall Fuller? Was he hurt? I know he didnât have any picks but he was decent, right?
itâs so funny hearing the media who never played football at any sort of a high level call nfl players âsoftâ itâs diabolical to me đđ i wish yall would talk like this directly too them
