Special Edition: Back in Business | Dallas Cowboys 2025
[Music] [Applause] Go cowboy. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Just a few miles from the Osnard Harbor, the Cowboys are back in California. It’s the first special edition of the 2025 season as training camp is underway at the River Ridge Sports Complex. Welcome in everybody. We are here from the Star in Fris with the legendary Nate Newton on site out in Oxnard alongside Isaiah Stanach and Barry Church. I’m Kyleman. So glad you’re with us. Football is back, gentlemen, and it is good to be back. Now, there’s a lot of overall expectation when it comes to this Cowboys team in 2025. Let’s start by the highest of expectations and it comes from Tyler Smith. Realistically, because we we can win the Super Bowl. Like, why not? Why Why can’t we win? Do you think it’s unrealistic? You think the roster is in place to do that? I think it is in place to do that. Yes, sir. You think guys have a little chip on their shoulder, especially guys who were part of last year’s team? I mean, we absolutely do. I mean, uh, last year’s campaign is obviously not at all how we wanted it to go. You know, a lot of unfortunate things happened, but ultimately this year is a new opportunity and, uh, we’re going to attack it the way we need to attack it. And like I said, the goal remains the same. We want to be world champions. Like, and that’s that’s where we’re at. Love to see the confidence from the offensive line. Confident offensive linemen are nothing new to special edition. Nate, you were once a confident offensive lineman. What do you think about Tyler Smith’s expectations and what are your expectations? I think Tyler Smith should believe the way they believed. I bring I believe bringing in George Pickings, bring your first round pick, Tyler Booker, I Hey, confidence should be how you you address some some uh needs that need to be handled. But for me, until I see this team getting some pass, until I see them go after the Rams, till I see what the preseason bring, because you have to bond. you always have to jail. And how quick would that be with Dak uh coming off this uh injury that he had that terrifying rip off his uh hamstring? So, my expectations are are mid to low and uh I just hope these guys can uh believe in themselves. Yeah, for me, Kyle, I I love the confidence of what Tyler Smith is saying out there. I mean, you always want to have a confidence, especially in the offensive line, but for me, the expectations rely fully on the health of this team. If this team can remain healthy, and that’s a huge ask, seeing as though a lot of these players have gone down in the past couple years, but if they can remain healthy, I believe they’re too explosive offensively, not to be just a 10- win team. They got a chance to win a division in my opinion. Then you bring Matt Eberloose along as well who’s going to get this defense right. So, if this team can remain healthy, I see at the very minimum a 10- win team. Oo, 10 wins on that thing. Okay, I’m with you, BC. But my my expectation is this. I think that these guys should have the mentality that Tyler Smith has. I agree with you, Nate Newton, on that regard. The thing is, if you’re the Carolina Panthers, you should have that confidence. If you’re the Philadelphia Eagles, you have that confidence. If you dog on the Cowboys, you better have that confidence because that is the expectation every time you step into a locker room, every time you step up to the field. My expectation for them is to be in the one or two slot in this division. We know the NFC East is very competitive. I believe that there’s going to be at least two teams that go out of the this division to go to the playoffs. So, as long as they can find their way in that groove, I think that they’ll be in a position to make the playoff run. So there’s the confidence level from Tyler Smith, Barry Church, Isaiah Stanback, and Nate Newton. But what does it sound like from Jerry Jones? Tyler’s one of the most intelligent guys in the NFL. And if he’s thinking that way, I’ll go right along with him. But uh I think that we’ve done u we’ve addressed many areas that u uh bit us as I look at what last year was about. Uh having Dak under center is a good place to start. If the Cowboys are going to reach those high expectations, they’re going to have to do so with the offense leading the way. That’s the biggest thing right now. You have to lead the way on the offensive side of the football and they’ve done so with Dak Prescott and company over the last couple of seasons. There’s a new play caller and a new head coach in Brian Shottenheimer. But what are the expectations for Dakberry whenever it comes to him getting back to his MVP level and the type of play he had in 2023? Look, I believe Dak Prescott is going to hit the ground running. I mean, you got two explosive weapons on the outside, CD Lamb and George Pickins that are going to be able to stretch the field. The thing that I want this offense to do, especially coming into this season, is they got to establish some type of running game. We understand when it comes to Dak Prescott, he’s at his best when he has a balanced attack. He can use that play action to exploit that secondary on the opposite side of the football. But when you talk about Dak, this is a pros pros. He has that connection with CD Lamb already. If he can get that connection going with CD Lamb, the sky’s is the limit for Dak Prescott and this offense. Ah, you said it right there, BC. It’s all about the run game. Anytime Dak Prescott has an effective and an efficient running game, he is one of the most dangerous passers in this game. We know that he can sit behind their protected line or what we call now the great wall of Tyler because the three first round Tylers on the front line and throw the rock around. We know about George Piggin. We know about CD Lamb. We know about Jake Ferguson. We know these guys can get the rock out and get it in these playmakers hands. But can they run the ball effectively every single time? And I believe that with the addition of the assistant coaches on the offensive line front, that being their specialty, I believe that along with the draft picks that you have and the guys that you have on the front line, they are going to be a very effective whether that’s Williams running the ball, Sanders running the ball or Barry Church running the ball. It doesn’t matter. I think there’s going to be effective running game and I think there’s going to be a lot of splash plays which are going to allow for play action and that is what Dak does best. Don’t sleep on Barry Church running the ball. Don’t sleep on it. Don’t sleep on it. Nate, what do you think? You can’t you can talk about it, but you got to be about it. And that mean you have to practice it. And we need to see it in practice on this coming Sunday. We need to see these guys out there practicing. When we go against the Rams in the inner squad screen, we have to see two or three run periods. Starting with the inside run, then starting with the outside run. You have to run the ball. You don’t want to get into a game and start practicing the run. That is the wrong time. Preseason should be at least 50% run and 50% pass. That is when I know you’re truly going to run the ball. And that intr squad scrimmage Tuesday, August 5th between the Cowboys and the Rams out in Oxnard. When we come back on special edition, just how much will the defense look different from year number one and two of this defensive unit? And will Micah Parsons be a part of it? Ford is the best in Texas. [Music] [Applause] How’s it the heat affected you? Don’t affect me, baby. I was born in Florida, man. Do you like summer camp? Yeah, I love it. Hey, hey, coach. How you feel? I feel good, coach. Looking good. I’m getting on the film, man. You know I’m going to be looking good. Feeling good. I feel like this camp is going great so far. It’s real physical. I mean, it starts the This is the most physical camp I started out for in my four years here. And um it’s probably going to elevate more as long as long as everybody stays healthy. Oh, no. When you have great trainers such as Brett Brown and Jim, I mean, who we started over? You got to start it over, Barry. I mean, that was before the media days. That was before all the training. Giving a shout out to both Britt and Jim who are still a part of the Cowboys organization. Here’s the thing, Isaiah. You’re not getting off scot-free, but you’ve made your name as a media mogul. So, let’s throw it all the way back. How about let’s go to the the magical year of 2022. Look at the focus on the sideline from Isaiah. Stand back as he’s watching practice. You’re ready to get back out there, aren’t you? Do you see the stands, though? It look like a little I need to be in somebody’s window during Christmas time. It’s official in there. Yeah, I like that. Oh, back alongside Isaiah Barry, Nate, I’m Kyleman’s. Nate, I’ll start with you on this one. Michael Parsons has been a topic of conversation throughout the entire off season that is the same out there in Oxnard. I mean, what is the importance of getting his deal done and just how important is it for him to be out there? From what Mr. Jones says it’s not that important and it’s not uh a mustdo thing at rat at this point because he’s under contract for I think a little bit over 24 mill. So they they what I think they want to see is him being here being a leader. He’s running out on the field with the team. He’s stretching with the team. He’s doing things with the teams. He’s helping periodically in in certain situations. So I think they just want to see that from him. They want to you know you hear a lot of things about this kid ain’t and how selfish he may be. But I’m I’m thinking he’s trying to make a change for the betterment of the team because you know shotty asked for for them to just to love on each other a little bit more. The contract will get done. You know, Mr. Jones, if he wants somebody, Barry, you know, he will get them. That is a fact. And it’s not a it’s not a, you know, will the will the deal get done, it’s just when the deal will get done. And I love how Parsons is playing the game because he’s a leader both on and off the field. He’s putting the onus on the organization to get the job done. He’s showing up, showing out, and making sure he’s there for his teammates. And that’s what leaders do with the Dallas Cowboys. Yeah, I’m not worried by any means at all. I think that Michael Parsons is there doing what he’s supposed to be doing. He’s been doing it all offseason. He’s going to get his big payday. His pocket is going to be heavy like a Chevy. It’s going to happen at some point. That’s the biggest thing right now is trying to figure out one way or the other when that contract will hit and if it’ll happen before, of course, the regular season comes to fruition. But he is out there in Oxnard and he’s part participating on the sideline. And when we come back, we go back out to the West Coast. Nick Eatman catches up with the front office. Steven Jones sits down for a one-on-one interview. This segment was brought to you by your North Texas Ford dealers. Ford is the best in Texas. [Applause] This segment is brought to you by the NFL fan of the year presented by Captain Morgan. Ah, the calm waters of Oxnard, California. Not so calm when the Cowboys show up because there are storylines abundant. And with more on that, Nick Eatman sits down with Stephen Jones. Man, it assured is refreshing to see CD having another guy on that other side in George Pickkins that you just have to worry about. Well, CD is just uh uh you know, hats off to him to start with. Uh he’s really developing leadership skills. Uh certainly embraces having Pickkins out there. Uh as he said, he’s certainly not a two, he’s a one as well. Uh we both just play either side. And then uh you know, JT is doing a great job. October is uh in terms of uh you know picking up right where he left off last year after a great year last year. Uh certainly great to have Mingo and uh the rest of the the crew that we have out there. I I don’t same thing if I go to naming guys I’ll leave someone out. Uh but Floren is doing a great job out there and you know really like that receiving core we have on your um offensive line. First time in 15 years you don’t have a a Tyron or a Travis or Zack Martin in there. um still got some quality players, you know, starting with Tyler Smith, but but does it feel weird to see this offensive line and not see some of those faces that we’ve used to seeing? Certainly. I mean, you’re talking about Hall of Fame type players when you’re talking about Tyron Smith and Zack Martin and certainly Travis Fedric was a mainstay all protype player uh that we have here. But the uh you know the young guys are coming and uh whether it’s Booker, whether it’s Tyler Smith uh certainly steals uh uh expect him to fully step up and play great this year. And then obviously a lot of expectations on Gayton and then of course our draft pick last year had a great year BB uh there at the center position and fully expect him to uh just continue to ascend in terms of uh the type of player he can be. And then uh you know really like our depth there. We’ve got a lot of veteran players behind them who have all started in this league before and know what it takes uh to win. But uh we like that run. With more of the one-on-one conversation, go online to dallascowboys.com. Whose spot is up for grabs. We’re talking position battles when we come back. This segment was brought to you by the NFL fan of the year presented by Captain Morgan. [Music] [Applause] This segment is brought to you by Salvation Army. Doing the most good. Welcome back to Special Edition. Isaiah Stanback, Barry Church, and Nate Newton. I’m Kyleman’s. Nate, you’re out there in Oxnard having conversations with guys like Tyler Gayton who are in the middle of a position battle. He’s specifically at left tackle. What were you saying to Gayton there? And is that the type of position battle you’re looking out for? Yes, cuz I think him and Austin Riches into a battle with outside with look outside with Austin Riches from the outside looking in at Terrence Steel. I think he Austin Rich can play both of those positions. So, I hope they give him a chance. But back to Tyler Gton. He walked up to me during practice and said, “Hey, I heard what you said on your podcast.” And he said, “Man, a lot of that is true. you know, I played I didn’t uh uh take guys around the horn and run them around the horn. They got me on the inside a little bit and after a while, I started to lose confidence and like I he asked me, you know, to stay with him after practice and I told him, I don’t have to do that. And I gave him a quick 30 second to a minute uh overview of what he’s doing wrong. And I just tell him, it’s all mental up here. You have the athletic ability. You have the skills, but now you have to see yourself do it. You have to come out on this field and work out work on it every day. Yeah. And he still grabbed me and say, “Man, I still want you to work with me.” I say, “I’m free to do it, my friend.” Because I’m out here for the hey, for the betterment of Cowboys because y’all know I’m a homer, Isaiah. I know. Yeah. The the trenches are extremely important. Exactly. With the team or the unit that I’m talking about, and that’s the running back room. I mean, who’s going to take over this running back room? I mean, you got four cats out there. You got Javvante Williams, Alfred Blue, Miles Sanders, and you can’t forget about Club 42 member Deuce Bomb. But I don’t want to hear nothing about running back by committee. We’re going to use this guy in the passing attack. We’re going to use this guy in between the tackles. I need a bail cow back back there. Who’s going to take it over? We talked about it in the earlier segments. This offense is best when it’s balanced. We need somebody to go ahead and take control of that running back. And just for clarification, you mean Jaden Blue? Jaden Blue. I’m sorry. Running back. That’s okay. Alfred Bill played for a long time and he played the same position. Isaiah, what are some of the position battles you’re looking at? It’s okay. Barry said bail cow. He probably get a calf out of there, but Either way, it’s going to work. Uh, I’m I’m going to the defensive end position. We obviously know that the number one spot is with Michael Parsons, but who’s going to play opposite of him? Who’s going to be able to elicit that pressure that you need opposing Michael Parsons? Well, all of a sudden, you have your boy Dante Fowler Jr. back coming off for his season with Washington and Dan Quinn. He had 10 and a half sacks. That’s the second most sacks he’s had in his career. Then you also went ahead and drafted uh Donovan Esaku. You also have Marshon Neland that you’ve invested in. You also have Sam Williams that’s coming back. So, you have a whole bunch of guys. You just picked up a James Houston from from Detroit who’s also going to be coming into the fold and trying to find his career again. There’s a lot of competition for that number two spot. What’s that rotation look like and who’s going to be able to get to the QB? Well, and all three of those guys have had really good starts to camp. Williams as a rocku and of course that third name you mentioned there in Marshon Neland. When we come back on special edition, Oxnard provides a lot of storylines. Big weekend ahead for the Dallas Cowboys as the first week of training camp wraps up in Oxnard, California. We wrap up special edition. Nate, with a Saturday and a Sunday practice on the schedule, what are you looking forward to the most this weekend? I just want to see the impact that number 97 will have. He got a new bag this off season. I’m looking for him to be a a lot more consistent in making plays behind the line of scrimmage, be it be it run or pass. Yeah, for me it’s got to be Dak’s new weapon and that’s George Pickkins. I mean, we see that this team has two number ones on the outside. I’m looking forward to see the timing between George Pickings and Dak Prescott is on point because if it is, the sky’s the limit for this offense. Well, I’m going into the trenches with the big fellas. I’m looking at Mazy Smith. We’re looking at what he’s been doing. hasn’t had much production on the field as of yet, but they went ahead and drafted two people to go ahead and start put some pressure on him as well as bring in Solomon Thomas. Let’s see if he can turn it up with some competition right behind him. Is he under the most pressure out of anybody on this football team going into 2025? Yes, absolutely. Being a first round pick and not having had any much of any production this to date, yeah, he has to be looking over his shoulder right now. Pressure is high. former first round pick. He’s got a lot on his shoulders and he’s lost some weight this off season, which has actually been kind of either a controversial or an encouraging storyline depending on who you talk to. Here’s the schedule moving forward for the Cowboys. One thing I’m looking forward to is the blue and white practice coming up on Sunday. We’re going to have that broadcasted live on dallascowboys.com and on TXA21 locally in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. But plenty of opportunities to keep up with Dallas Cowboys in the Dallas Cowboys now app throughout training camp leading up into the first preseason game of the year on Saturday, August 9th. Plenty of things to look forward to when it comes to training camp 2025. It’s also the first of many special editions throughout the entire season. Can’t wait to be back in full force with Isaiah Standback, Barry Church, and Nate Newton. I’m Kyle Yman saying so long from the star in Fris for Nate out in Oxnard, California. We will see you very very soon with more of special edition as training camp 2025 is underway.
