MLB LIVEπ΄ Tampa Bay Rays vs Cincinnati Reds – Jul 26, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
about to get started here. And today’s starting pitcher, Lion Richardson. But Chris, he hasn’t exactly been stellar here on his home mound. Well, I’ll say this, every player wants to perform well at their home ballpark, in front of their fans, in front of the city. And you know, this guy no different. He wants to be more effective here. So, you look at the numbers, they haven’t been great at home. I’m sure he wants to turn that around and we’ll see if he’s able to start that in this one. Yeah, the batter now number 14 line drive base hit man aboard on the leadoff single batting second the designated hitter Yandi Diaz. Yandi Diaz now. That’s inside and it’s one and0. Richardson measures 6’2 in 205 lbs and he was a second round pick back in 2018. Outside low ball to Chris with that distraction and the speedy guy at first he’s in a favorable hitter count. Well, if nothing else I mean this is a great spot for a hitter to be in. lifted in the air. Left field pretty well struck. One down. By third, first base. Now, a look at Kevin Cash’s lineup for the Tampa Bay Rays. This an offense, Chris, that’s having a hard time scoring runs right now. Yeah, sometimes things just aren’t going to click. And unfortunately what happens is players press, they try to do a little bit more and they get out of their game. You’ve got to let the game come to you. If you chase it, it’s going to run from you. So this is a team that just needs to calm down, relax, and understand that they’re going to come out of this. Jonathan Aranda stands in now and watches strike one. Right back to the mound. Could be an easy two to Elliot. Second for one. What a double play that was. Inning over. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. And now the Reds will get their first opportunity. No score. back here at Great American Ballpark and today’s starting pitcher Drew Rasmusson. Tell us about him in that sub3 RA singy. Well, anytime you can keep your erra under three, you’re doing a lot of things right and you’re putting your team in a position to win a lot of ball games as well. And he’s doing tremendous out there on the mound. Every time he gets the ball, you expect him to go out there and dominate. And that’s what he’s been to this point. We’ll see how he is today. Bottom of the first in now for the Reds. TJ Fredel first offering and it just misses. Come on. Come on. You can do it. Come on. This one in the air center field under this one. And there’s one away. Here’s the lineup for the Reds. And Chris, this group has been struggling to put up runs lately. Well, they haven’t been on base a ton. And even when they are, they haven’t been hitting very well with runners on base. So, they need a player or two to really step up, have some quality at bats, hit according to the situation and sort of break out of this. I think if they do, the rest of this lineup will follow. Matt Mlan in the box now. No balls in a strike. One out. Base is empty. Highf fly ball out towards left field. Way back there. Great catch. Foul ground up against the wall. Man, boo. I love watching an outfielder take on the wall to make that play. And it’s a lot easier to watch from up here because that can be painful in the end. You know the wall’s coming up on you quickly. So you have to maintain concentration and able to make that catch and hold on to it after contact. Ellie Dea Cruz stands in with two away as he takes a ball. Two out space is empty. Next offering is in for a strike. He had a foul ball. That one missed. Boo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. With that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. And here it comes. That one misses. Full countdown. Count is full. And there’s ball four. One of the things about that two out walk, the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. Oh, Austin Hayes stands in now. Looks at that one inside. And that one is in for a strike. Was good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Two outs. Bows it off. Still one and two. Come on, Austin. Swing at a high-fly ball to left. Mangum sizing this one up and the inning is over. Reds leave one scoreless after one. Back here in Cincinnati. Second inning set to go. And stepping in for the Rays, Junior Camro. Richardson back to work. Bottom of the zone and a cold strike. Well, the key to his success is getting ahead early in the count. He cannot afford to go deep in the counts. Ah, that hit him. And the leadoff man is aboard to start the inning. So digging in low and the pitch a little bit low. Ball one and turn. Let’s go. One runner on the go. Hit in the air. Left field makes the grab. One away. Batting six. Left fielder Jake Mangum. Now here is Jake Mangum. Laser could be trouble. Lead runner touches second. Headed for third. Coming home. He will score and the Rays had the lead in there safely. Well done. Drives in the run. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep. Took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. One down, runner at third. Matt Thice now at the plate. Swinging a foul straight back. Mangum stands at third with one gone in the inning. Swinging a ball lifted in the air right field. He just missed it. Nabs it. runner tagging from third. He’s in on the sack fly and they lead by two. Well, that’s a quality at bat right there. You know the situation. You need something in the air and deep enough and that’s exactly what he did. Good pass to the baseball. Now it’s the second baseman, Jose Caviierro. He’s going to finish with a new careerhigh in stolen bases. Chris swing and a miss. Chased it out of the zone. He was sitting off speed there. That one drifts inside. Just a really nice slider down and in there. He wants to get the hitter thinking fast ball. Speed him up and just subtract some velocity and add a little movement. Two down. Nobody on two and two. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Next offering is down low. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Grounds one to short. Dela Cruz and that is the third out of the inning. But two runs for him and they jump ahead. We go to the bottom of inning number two. It’s the Rays two and the Reds nothing. We head to the bottom of the second. Here’s the left fielder, Gavin L.av. After scoring runs, this is where you’re looking for that shutdown inning. Get that hot team back in there to swing the bats. Ball one and a pitch inside. Check swing called strike. Our plate umpire Earl Hris. Yeah, with Hendrickx boo kind of interesting. He’s a good consistent umpire, but you do hear that he kind of favors one side of the plate more than the other. So, it’s really hard to know for sure, but I think that usually it has to do something with where he sets up prior to each pitch and downstairs. Over to first. Lead off man retired here in the second. Batting six. First baseman Spencer Steer. And here is Spencer Steer. No, that ball. Swaying and a miss and the count even at one. Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good and then by the time he gets in the hitting zone hard to get the barrel to it. Just missed in the air right field and that’ll get down for a hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. Tyler Stevenson, the next to hit for the Reds. Tyler Stevenson. out towards right center field. Settles underneath it. They got it for out number two. Betting eight designated hitter Jake Freilley. Now it’s the Red’s DH Jake Freilley. There, there’s the strike. Throughout history, the fast ball down has been the most successful pitch. Guys can handle a little bit better these days, but they of course still prefer something belt high. That one pushed to the left and fouled. Come on. Misses. Going to count one and two. High-fly ball out to center field. Walls makes the catch and that’s the inning. So, one left for Cincinnati. They trail things here. Two nothing. And we’re back. New inning getting started. Here’s the shortstop at the plate. Taylor Walls swing and a highf fly ball out towards right center field. Fredel on the move. Pulls it in for the owl. He was all over that first pitch. nearly missed it. Man, this guy was ready to hit. So, the Rays batting order turns over. Here’s the Rays leadoff hitter. He’s one for one. Lent off the game with a single. Fun attempt. Popped up. Two away. Now batting the batter now. Yandi Diaz fly to left his first time. together. You can do it. Come on. Rip to short to first and they go down fast. Three outs on three pitches. Down in order go the Rays as they’re unable to add to their two nothing lead as we go to the last of the third and ready to hit now for Cincinnati. Noel V Marte a swing and a miss and that’s strike one. Wow. Good luck catching up to that one. Next pitch off the play and it’s a ball and a strike. One ball, one strike. That’s a ball. Tried to attack with a sweeper. fouls one off two and two. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Still two and two after the foul ball. Some heat there at 98 m an hour. Well, just couldn’t pull the trigger on the fast ball right there. And I don’t think he was taking it. thinking it might be a cold ball or anything. I just think he was flat out frozen. Did not expect that location in my opinion. Fredel batting for the second time and that’s strike one. Pitch misses and it’s one and one. That’s a ball. Tried the sweeper. Come on. Pitch misses. Now three and one. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. That’s a strike. And now three and two. Goodness. I think he just took the best pitch he’s going to see in this at bat. You don’t get many like that in that location. I don’t know if you take that pitch against any pitcher out there on the mountain. In the air left field. Mangum. He makes the catch and there’s two down. Now batting second base Matt next for Cincinnati Matt Mlan fly to left his first time in there and it’s one. Well, this is the type of hitter you want up in this situation. Some sluggers coming up behind him. He’s so good at moving runners but also getting on base. See if he can be patient here. Two outs. Climb the ladder with that fast ball. 0 and two now. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And good work there as he gets a one, two, three. Nobody left for Cincinnati. They’re still down. It’s two zip. Jonathan Orlando getting ready to hit. He hit into a double play his first time up and first offering is fouled off. And a swing and a miss. Oh, and two. Lifted in the air right field. Marte drops into the glove and a quick out number one. Now batting third baseman, Junior Camo. So now it’s the fourhole hitter, Junior Camero. Camero goes 6’1, just 21 years old, and he was born in the Dominican Republic. First pitch misses and he grounds one back up the middle. Throw to first in time. Up next for Tampa Bay, right fielder Josh Low. Two down, base is empty. So next to the plate for Tampa Bay, Josh Low. He’s 0 for one. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Well, he’s been incredibly efficient in this one. First pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average. And that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up until this point. And that is the inning. Rays go in order. 1 2 3. They’re up two nothing. In now for the Reds. Ellie De Cruz walked his first time. We talked about guys with good speed and definitely he has it. But pushing the offensive side for just a second, Chris, it’s the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most. In the air, center field, settles underneath it, makes the catch, and there’s one gone. Now batting third base. And now it’s Austin Hayes. Come on. Just miss. That’s a ball. Next offering is in for a strike. That one is upstairs. late swing fouled off and the 2-2 and that’s outside. The Reds down by a pair. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. One down. Base is empty. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Well, he’s desperately looking for that swing and miss. He’s going to have to just change speeds a little bit, try to move it around, create just a little bit of illusion at the end. And down on strikes. He battled for a long time, but it finishes with a strike out. You can’t be mad at yourself after an at bat like that one. And now it’s Gavin Lux grounded out his first time. Fast in for a strike and it’s 0 and one. He’s gotten into a really good rhythm. Sat down seven in a row. He just wants to get the baseball and deliver it as quickly as possible. Keep the momentum going. It gets down. Base hit. So a two out. Knock keeps the inning alive. Now Daddy the first baseman Spencer Ste. So up next Spencer Steer one for one with a single so far. Now move to first. Daddy’s back safely. I think you want to get a one-way lead. Be very aggressive in the secondary. This hitter not a power guy, so you want to make sure that you can get some length on the secondary lead and perhaps score on a ball in the gap. It’s 0 and one. He’s pitching well, but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes. Usually doesn’t work out for success, but you can never predict baseball. Lux leads off first with two down to the inning. And there’s a foul ball. Owen Chu now fouled off and they’ll do it again. Two outs. Lifted in the air right center field and makes the grab and that will end the inning. Reds leave one and they’re down two nothing. Now Jake off for the Rays. Left fielder Jake Mangum. Come on. Richardson back to work. A change up missing. And that’s ball one. Just off the inside edge. Duo. That one pushed foul out of play off to the left and he grounds one to the right side. Mlan sends it to first and the lead offense set down in their half of the fifth. Now batting catcher Matt Thice. Matt th comes up to hit here. Drove in a run with a sack fly. His first time up. Ground ball right side and that’s just foul. That one off the mark and it’s one and two. Base is empty. One away and we’re at the top of the fifth. Next offering upstairs. He’s really tightening up his hitting zone with two strikes here. I love it. That’s outside and the count is filled up. Full count. That’s a good at bat right there. He was down early in that plate appearance. Works the walk. His ability to draw walks has been something that’s been part of his career since day one. Runner on at first with one gone. Next to hit, Jos Cabierro. Swinging a popup. Hayes has this one sized up. Two down. And now the short stop Taylor Wall Taylor Walls just off the outside edge. one and0 just off the inside edge. Well, usually a high level of confidence when you’re facing a young pitcher out there on the mound. In this situation, ahead 200, he’s put himself in a really good spot. That one misses and that’s ball three. And that’s a strike. One way to make a guy real uncomfortable at the plate is pound him inside with good velocity. They’re doing that right here. Cincinnati. Swinging a foul straight back. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion, so something in the gap should definitely score it. outside corner. Got him looking. The Rays strand just the one, but they hold the two nothing lead. Here’s the catcher to hit. Tyler Stevenson flying to center his first time. He’s 0 for one. That clips a corner. Well, these Reds showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. Starter’s leash has to be getting tighter with his pitch count where it is, but so far he’s been really effective in this one. Next offering misses now. Two balls in a strike. You know, sometimes it just takes getting to the bullpen in order to be able to score runs and that might be the case today. outside low. Three and one now. That one misses. So, a lead off walk. Maybe a little loss of focus on the mound right there. Pretty much gifted in first base with a quick free pass. And next is the designated hitter, Jake Freilley. 0 for one with a fly out. That one misses. That’s five straight. One ball. No strike. Six straight outside the strike zone. There’s a strike. Stevenson gets his lead at first. Nobody out. That breaks in for a strike. It’s two and two. Ripped on a line. He’s got it. One away. Now batting right fielder Noelvie Marte. Now it’s going to be Noelvie Marte. Right through there for a strike. And that one is lifted in the air. Low settles under this one. Makes the grab and there’s two gone. Now batting the center fielder TJ Fredle. And now TJ Fredle 0 for two in this one. That one ripped. That’s down. One hops off the wall. Here comes Stevenson around third. He’ll score. Oh, here we are. Third time through the order. And this is where we see the OPS jump up. Manager might have to go to the bullpen a little bit sooner than he anticipated. So runner at second, two down. Mlan the next to hit. And that one upstairs. Runner at second. Two down. Last half of inning number five. There’s a 1-1 and that one fouled off. Next pitch is outside. Two, two, fights it off. He’ll see another hit in the air right field and the inning is over. runscoring double here for the Reds. And this is now a 2-1 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back to the top of the order now. And now the center fielder one for two. And look out, that one gets him. The second man he’s plunked in this one. So now the DH spot, Yandi Diaz. Yandi Diaz. Throw to first and he’s back in on a drive. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. The Cincinnati bullpen has some movement. Tony Santon getting ready to go. Martinez also throwing. Cincinnati to the left side, but it is well fouled. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow left field and that’ll fall for a base hit. And they have their first hit since the second inning. Well, he found himself behind in the count right there, but he didn’t give in. That’s a goal that a lot of times you’ll see the shorts stop or left fielder be able to get to if it hangs up in the air long enough. But right there, it just died and found a way to drop in on the green stuff for the base hit. Manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Lion Richardson is done and a decent effort considering he’s normally a reliever. Back with the new pitcher in a minute. Now pitching for Martinez on the pitch here. Just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. First and second, no outs. Now up for Tampa Bay, Jonathan Orlando. And that one is downstairs. And that is ball one. Fast ball is outside. Tough spot right here. Couple runners on. Two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. Pop dump Del Cruz and out number one on the grab. Now batting third baseman, Junior Camro. Junior Camero next to hit for the Rays. The last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground, but I wouldn’t expect many pitches up in the zone. They’ll be pitching for a double play in this spot. Gets the call. Strike one. Getting a little frustrated with the strike zone. And there’s the strike. Got some good opposite field power. What I like about something being hit to the right side into the outfield is that the base runner at second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base hit. Two on, one out. Two in the dirt but kept close. Tag safe. And a wild pitch and both runners are in scoring position. Got to take advantage of this opportunity now because of the wild pitch. They’ve got two runners in scoring position. Good time for the hitter to lock in. Put the ball in play hard somewhere. Swaging a ball hit out towards left center field. base hit into the outfield. Runner from third in to score in there. He’s saved. Well, he comes through clutch with the RBI single. That was that ball right there landed in what they call the no man’s land, meaning it’s not really a spot on the field where you can expect anyone to get to it easily. I mean, it’s a tough play going back for the shortstop, but also for the outfielders trying to come in. They got to go a long way as well. Two on, one out. Josh Low next to hit for the Rays and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. No balls, one strike. Next off is in for a strike. Big pitch right here. He’s going to try to make a pitch. It’s going to produce a strike out or a ground ball double play. got him looking and he didn’t like the call. No, you got to be ready to swing the bat with a runner in smart position and two strikes. Just put the ball in place somewhere and you got a chance. Very frustrating for him, I’m sure. See if the next guy can pick him up. And now here is Jake Mangum. We just might be talking about this at bat in our postgame rap. He’s proven he can drive in runs in these spots. Diaz at third. Camero on first with two down. That crosses the plate and now they’re just one strike away from getting out of this mess. in the dirt. He is safe. fights that one away. Still one and two. Well, he knows they don’t want to give him anything to hit, but when you’ve got opportunities to drive in runs, you’ve got to expand the zone. He’s capable of going out there and doing damage with it. Sends it across the first. They limit the damage here. So, one run in the inning on this base hit. It’s now a 3-1 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. 345 do up for the home team. Stepping in is the switch hitting shortstop Ellie Dea Cruz. Come on. Sliced hard but foul. Fast ball for a strike. Well, we call that keyhole. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. the other way. Leadoff man retired in the six. Now ready third baseman Austin Hayes. And now Austin Hayes. He’s been a great free agent side. Foul ball there. The Rays leading by two here in the bottom of the sixth. The next pitch misses and a count one and two. And that’s skips in the dirt. This one in the air. Aranda has a beat on it. He’s there. He’s got it. Two away now. Now batting left fielder Gavin Lux. Now the left fielder Gavin Lux. Let’s go outside low. Ball one. Oh, he’s got to be pretty proud of this outing so far. Sometimes guys cower coming into a ballpark like this, but he has attacked hitters. Pitching on the road like this is very impressive. This has been a treat to watch. In the air, left field down the line. And that’s a fair ball. Throws to second. Not going to get him. He’s in there. Couple of hits in a row for him here. That pretty much split the zone down the middle. And those are the ones where you got to make them pay. And now Kevin Cash out of the dugout and ready to make a move to the bullpen. Drew Rasmusa gives way. He exits with the lead and gave them a really nice performance. New pitcher on the bump when we get back. Now pitching for Ryan Pepio comes on now. Pretty big spot he’s coming into trying to strain that runner at second base. So he’s going to need to make some quality pitches. He does have first open if he needs to use it. So runner at second, two down and ready to hit now for Cincinnati. Spencer Steer. That one catches the zone. Strike one. 01. And there’s a ball. went too far that time. It’s one and two. One and two is the count. Two outs and one in scoring position. Strike three. Got him swinging. That ends the inning. Well, this guy competes hard. We see the emotion there. I love it. Great job of getting out of the jam. Now, Tony Santon gets the call from the pen. And compared to a lot of other relievers, strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year. So, the defense should be active. And now the catcher for the Rays, Matt. Catcher, Matt Thice. The pitch in the air, left side. Lux makes the catch and there’s one down. Now batting second base Jose Cabanero. And stepping in for the Rays, Jose Cabierro. All right. And that’s him for a strike. Go and one. Santion, a righty that throws with power. He features a four seam fast, a slider, and he works in a change up and that misses and one and one. Base is empty, one away in the top half of inning number seven. Yeah, that’s too high. Two balls, one strike. One down, base is empty. And that one fouled off. 2-2 now. Swings through that one. It’s a strike out. Now batting short. Two out. Space is empty. So next to the plate for Tampa Bay, Taylor Walls. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike to third. Whips it to first. That’s out number three. Offense held in check there. Seventh inning stretch time. Rays three and the Reds won. Here’s the Reds catcher, Tyler Stevenson. Catcher, Tyler Stevenson. Fast is outside. This one popped up. Foul ground first base side and there’s one down. Now batting designated hitter Jake the next to hit for the Reds. That one fouled off. The Reds trailing by two here in the bottom of the seventh. Swinging a foul out of play. The O2 fouls it back with two strikes. The O2 and a foul ball. He stays alive. He goes down looking. So, two down now. And here is Noel V Marte. Noelv Marte. missed with a change up. Ball one. Well, this manager knows that his players are just trying to do too much. Everybody needs to just take a deep breath, relax, and let it naturally happen. Just that’s outside ball. Pitching has been pretty dominant in this one, but you got to be careful. Not working with too big a lead. They could get right back in this ball game if you’re not careful. That one fouled off. Two and two. And they’ll do it again. spoils that one and it remains two and two. Two down to a swing and a miss and that’s that. Reds go down quietly and it remains a 3-1 ball game. Now pitching pitcher in the game, Brent Sudter. Well, he’s been excellent against left-handed hitters this year, and that’s his first test. This looks like a good move to the pin in terms of the matchup. Here’s the Rays lead off. If there’s nobody on in front of him, you know, a single for him many times is a double. This guy is off to the races, ready to steal a bag when he’s on first base. That misses and that’s ball one. It’s good speed at the top of the order here. You want to get it on. See if you can get a stolen base. Maybe get around the bases and pick up a run. That one finds the zone and it’s one and one. The 1-1 is fouled off. Let’s go. And a swing and a miss at the slider in the dirt. Stevenson collects, fires to first, gets him. One away on the drop third strike. that slider down and away. It’s just kind of a slow death with two strikes you’re looking to protect and halfway to the plate. You know you’ve committed and you know you’re going to have no chance of touching it. Tell you what, sometimes you just have to tip your cap. And now it’s going to be Yandi Diaz broken bat and it’s popped up. Tosses to first and there’s two down. Got to feel pretty good for the pitcher. Absolutely saw him off. Bat explodes and then he makes an easy play on it. Pretty satisfying if you’re out there on the ball. Two down, base is empty. And here’s the first baseman, Jonathan Aranda. He swings and fouls one off. And it’s even up activity in the bullpen for the Reds. Sam Mole up and throwing for Terry Francona. Barlo also getting ready. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the eighth. That one pushed foul. One and two now. Goodson misses. It’s a strike out. Rays held in check here and the score stays three to one. The left-hander on now, Ian Seymour. These are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves. Late and close. There’s not much margin for error, but at the same time, there’s a reason they’re put in these situations. Here’s the center fielder, TJ Fredo. TJ Fredo. That one pulled foul. shoots a line, drive single into right center and that’ll bring the tying run to the plate. Everything came together for him. Fast pretty much middle middle and that’s what you fall asleep dreaming about as a hitter. So, no surprise he put a great swing on it. Now at the plate, Matt Mlan 0 for three in this one. slashed foul down the right side. That’ll hook off into the seats with the tying run at the plate here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. Out to short. Off-balance feed. There’s one. How about that double play? Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. Ellie de la Cruz the next to hit for the Reds. Outfield playing very deep, not wanting anything over their heads. Ripped on a line to center. Carous it and that ends the inning. Nobody left for Cincinnati. Score holds. It’s 3-1. And now, Junior Camro. Well, he’s been having a great year this year and hitting home runs at a good clip. And the matchup is very favorable. Sudtor back to work. Ball one there. The Cincinnati bullpen has some movement. Chase Burns, the rookie right-hander, is getting loose. Swing and a miss. Strike one. One and one. Out to short. Tosses across to first and they get the leadoff man in the ninth. Now batting right fielder Josh Low. So digging in. Josh Low went down looking on three pitches last time. Let’s see if he can be a little more aggressive right here. inside. That’s it. And that’s ball one. Base is empty. One away. You’re in the top of the ninth. One down. Base is empty. So a foul ball makes it one and two. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Popped up to the left into foul ground. Has room and he makes the catch. Now batting left fielder Jake Mangum. Jake Mangum next to hit for the Rays. And that’s in the dirt. Next offering upstairs. That’s the third. Paige rolls across the diamond and that is that. So they make short work of him there onto the bottom of inning number nine. 456 coming up. Rays three and the Reds won. So they turn to their closer Pete Fairbanks. And as relievers go, he’s not a big strikeout guy. Tries to force weak contact. So command and execution are huge for him. Now the third base, Austin. Third base, Austin Hayes. Yeah, that skips into there. Swing and a tapper then rolls foul swinging a highf fly ball in the air left field that’s back there holds it in on the warning track outstanding catch right there and I love the commitment that he showed he knew that the wall was close but was determined to make that catch and a nice calculation of just how much room he had to try to minimize that contact. Lux the next to hit takes ball one and that misses. Two and 0. Two and0. fouls one off out of play. Back to our left way high. The Reds down by a pair here in the last half of inning number nine. And a foul ball up the middle into the outfield base hit and that’ll bring the tying run to the plate. Now batting the first baseman Spencer Steer the next to him for the Reds. One for three. Outside. And that is ball one with the tying run at the plate. And the home team trying to pull it out. Two balls, no strikes to count. He’s clearly trying to work him away here. Both pitches off the plate. If you really want to put the ball in play, you’re going to have to stay back and drive it to the opposite field. Next offering in there for a strike and it’s two and one. Tying run at the plate. Right side. Caviierro to second and it pulls the short stop off the bag. Well, this offense just got a major gift. Probably should have been a double play, but it all starts with a good feed to second. And right there, everything broke down on the throw. We’ll see if they can capitalize on this. First and second, one out. Next for Cincinnati, Tyler Stevenson. Fought off foul. Trying to keep the game alive here in the bottom of the ninth. Strike on the inside corner in there. Got him. Looking for the K. The Reds now down to their final out. Now batting Jake Freley digs in now. and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Just amazing to me how many closers and backend relievers just throw absolute gas these days. I never had a chance. The Reds down to their final strike. Not close with that one at a count one and two. Rarely will you see a pitcher just to waste a pitch like that. The batter wasn’t even tempted to swing. Every pitch needs to have a purpose so that it can set up a following pitch to help you get that out. Got him. And that’s the ball game. This was by no means an offensive outburst. Only four hits the entire game, but good teams find a way to win and they did. And your final 3-1 for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami saying so long.
