MLB LIVE🔴 Cleveland Guardians vs Kansas City Royals – Jul 26, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
just about ready to go and starting this one, Noah Cameron. Tell us about him in that sub3ra singy. Well, anytime you can keep your erra under three, you’re doing a lot of things right and you’re putting your team in a position to win a lot of ball games as well. And he’s doing tremendous out there on the mound. And every time he gets the ball, you expect him to go out there and dominate. And that’s what he’s been to this point. We’ll see how he is today. Here’s the left fielder, Steven Quan. Up and in. And with that, we’re underway in Kansas City. Oh, that’s in on the corner for a strike. fouled off left side and he grounds one to the right side and that one handled. Gets it to first. One out in the top of the first. Here’s the Guardians lineup now. Not the highest team batting average for this squad. They’re down towards the bottom of the league in total hits. And Singi, because of that, they don’t score a ton. Yeah. And Boo, I’m looking for a little better performance out of them today. I mean, if they’re going to be dangerous, if they’re going to be able to create scoring opportunities, they’re going to have to start making some individual adjustments. A lot of players in this lineup probably aren’t happy with how they’ve hit the ball so far. So, today’s a chance to get something going. Anel Martinez batting with one down takes a strike. Cameron goes 6′ 3 in 220 lbs and he was drafted in the seventh round in 2021. Has room and he makes the catch. Batting third, the third baseman, Jose Ramirez. Two down, base is empty. Here’s Jose Ramirez. Another solid power season. Just off the outside edge and that is ball one. That one down the line and that’s just fouled. finish him. And that’s a base hit. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. Well, that certainly feels good when you can win the at bat after being down in the count up against it with two strikes right there. Nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line. You know, hitters, they take so many reps in the cages, working on going to the opposite field, and it doesn’t always translate into the game, but right there it did. And he did it perfectly. Come on, Noah. Two outs. That one fouled off. finish him. Swinging a ground ball up the middle. They take the force out. They don’t come much closer than that. Bang bang play to end the inning. Guardians lead one. The Royals will get their chance now in a scoreless ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back here at Koffman Stadium and towing the slab, Tanner Bbeby. Well, he’s been a real quality starter for his club. And coming into this one, what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 on the year. It seems that they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone. So, we’ll see how right-handers do against him in this one. to the play for Kansas City. Jonathan India and that is downstairs and that’s ball one [Music] and another ball. 2 and 0 off the mark there and it’s three and0. Well, I would expect in this three 0 count you’re taking all the way. See if he’ll walk you. That clips a corner. Next offering is fouled back. This one popped up. Foul ground first base side. Puts it away for the out. One up, one down. And here now the lineup for the Royals. Not a team that usually sees a lot of pitches or works a ton of walks. Chris, they take a more aggressive approach than some of the other teams in the league. They definitely have a few free swingers in this lineup. hitters who want to be on the attack and that’s great as long as you got pitches in the zone. But if the pitcher is able to expand the zone, can be very difficult for an offense like this to get going. You’ve got to somehow draw some walks, put some runners on base so that when you do have those free swingers come up, you can cash in with some runs that are plated. Next offering is fouled back. One out. Base is empty. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. try to go again with a fast ball slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up and one and two. I don’t like to say he wasted a pitch. I think that was a purpose pitch. Change the eye level. Have him look up. Now go back exactly where you want to go. Next offering way off the plate. that one 95 to finish him off. Oh, you know that’s got to be very frustrating for this guy. He knows the strike zone extremely well. And you know what? Good hitters are not going to compromise. He’ll take that punch out, but ultimately stick with his plan and have more success than anything else. Two outs, space is empty. And here’s the first baseman, Vinnie Pasquantino. Pitch misses inside. And that’s ball one. two out. Base is empty. And now two and one after that missed inside. swung on, popped up on the infield. Schneman and puts the squeeze on that one. And that’s the third out. KC down in order. Scoreless after one. New inning getting started. And now it’s the switch hitter, Carlos Santana. One of the rare guys at first base that you almost think defense first. He is that good with the glove. You’re talking about top of the list elite defensive first baseman. That one misses one and0. First baseman are involved in just about every single play. So when you have somebody so solid over there, uh you can breathe a little easier. That one close. Rule the ball at a countdown now two and nothing. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. So, a runner aboard to start the inning. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Now here’s Nolan Jones. Swing and a highf fly ball out towards right field. Kaggleó pulls that one down and there’s one down. Batting seven, the second baseman, Daniel Schneman. And the batter now, Daniel Schne fall off foul. [Applause] Pitches in the dirt. One and one. Well, with the amount of pitches that can end up in the dirt, a good secondary lead doesn’t have to get away from the catcher, but if you’re anticipating based off the trajectory, get yourself into scoring position. And now the lefty in the air left side. Ray sizes this one up, nabs it, and there are two down. That’s right. Batting the shortstop, Brian Rochio. Here’s Brian Rochio. There’s the strike. [Applause] The shorts stop takes a ball and that’s off the inside edge. Two and one. [Applause] That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. Finish him. Two outs. Full count. 3-2. Two out. Runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. Foul ball left side. He’ll see another swing and a ball popped up. India and that is that one left for the Guardians. We’ll go to the bottom of the second. No score. Bottom of the second and now it’ll be the cleanup spot for the Royals. Mikel Garcia Garcia by back to work. Swing and a miss. Strike one. 0 and one. Up the middle. Schne on to first. That’s one out in the bottom of the second. Batting fifth, the catcher, Salvador Perez. And now it’s Salvador Perez to the plate. He’s done a great job making contact recently, hitting better than 350 this month. Highfly ball out to center field. Martinez on the move. Hauls it in for the two down. batting six. The right fielder Jack Jack Kaggle Leon steps in for the Royals. And that misses ball one. Sliced hard but fouled down the left side. [Music] Good eye right there. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Popped up to the left into foul ground. Ramirez settles under it and makes the catch. And that is the third out of the inning. So they make short work of him there. We head on now to the top of the third. We’re tied nothing. No nothing. Back here in Kansas City. Oh, Naylor at the plate now. Taking high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect label over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. Swing and a foul out of play. [Applause] [Music] And that one just missed off the outside edge. That’s ball two. Next pitch misses and the count is three and one. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. And a base hit right there. So now back to the top of the order. Oh, that was one of those high percentage advantage counts where batting averages are just so much higher. That can be a really tough pitch to handle, a front door breaking ball, but he did a great job staying in there, keeping that front shoulder closed. You didn’t spin off the ball and hook it foul, which happened so many times. And now Steven Quan runner on the go. And that should be extra bases. Rounds third headed for the plate. He’ll score and that keeps him from advancing past second. Well, clearly he was ready to hit right there. Nice line drive to the pull side right there, but he didn’t spin off of it. That’s the key. You still have to extend through the baseball in order to hit a line drive like that. Anel Martinez digs in for the Guardians and Cleveland on top. One zip and that’s a strike. Quan stands at second with no outs. [Applause] And that’s in there at the knees. Quickly down 02 in the count. I think you got to choke up a little bit. Spread out the feet. You don’t know what the velocity or the location of this next pitch is going to be. Cleveland up around looking for more. fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2. [Applause] [Music] And that’s downstairs and outside. [Music] [Applause] Try to get him to chase on the change up that time. Next pitch is outside. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked. No outs. Runner on second. Swing and a popup. India on his way over. He’s got it. Runner tags at second. Puts the tag on him and it’s a double play. Definitely a weird play right there and it changes the outlook of the inning completely. Nice job by the defense to take advantage and get two outs out of it. But on the flip side, I have to think they’re going to have some discussions and probably some lessons learned about the base running decisions that were made. Now it’s Jose Ramirez one for one with a single so far. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. [Applause] base knock right field. So, a two out knock keeps the inning alive. The batter number nine, designated hitter, Kyle. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Kyle Manzardo. He’s 0 for one. [Applause] Way high with that one. Ball one. Chop to the left side. Off balance throw in time and that will end the inning. But a run will score in the inning on this RBI double. It’s now one- nothing. And we’re back. Now the third base, Nick Loftton. Third base. Nick Loftton. [Applause] Swing and a miss. threw that fast right by him. Slightly elevated. That’s a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound. See if he continues to climb the ladder. [Music] Foul ball. It stays nothing and two [Music] and ball one. Two strike. [Applause] swings and hits one in the air out towards right field. Dives and it can’t hang on. Man aboard on the leadoff single. Good job of just putting the ball in play with two strikes. You can’t do much better than that on the pitch that far outside of the strike zone. Got to the chase on the two strike count, but he wasn’t fooled. He hit that ball really well. John Rae steps in for the Royals and that’s in for a strike. Go and one. [Applause] That’s a strike across the top of the zone. with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. Hit on the ground. Might be two. Fired to second out of Sant two. For me, that’s one of the toughest double plays to turn on the infield. The first base has to get inside, create a throwing lane to hit that middle infielder to start the double play and then from there completing it back to first. Really good job all the way around. And now it’s Kyle Isbel. First pitch misses. Two down. Nobody on. [Applause] Right through there for a strike. That clips the inside corner for a strike. Two two the count. Swing and a miss. There’s that change up. Gets to it onto first in time. So the drop third strike doesn’t hurt him. And that’s that. One hit in the inning, but no one left. Three innings complete. It’s the Guardians one and the Royals nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. And now the first baseman, Carlos Santana. Santana. Santana. Over 1,000 runs batted in in his career. He joined the team as a free agent. The first offering a fast ball for a strike. You know, these Guardians doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of him. He’s only given up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there. And that might be the best news yet for this offense. Goes down swinging for the strike out. Went back to the fast and it was effective. So digging in, Nolan Jones flyed to right his first time. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. Swing and a miss. One ball, one strike. And that’s off the outside edge. Now two balls in a strike. Base is empty, one away. Top half of inning number four. up the middle and he knocks it down. Gets it there in time though and they do get the second out of the inning. The batter number 10, second base, Daniel. Two down, base is empty. Now it’s the second baseman, Daniel Schnean. And first offering is fouled off on the inside corner for a strike. [Applause] The next pitch misses and it’s one and two. Y’all, this is a good time to step out of the box, take a deep breath, reset. Couple of change ups. Probably won’t see another one here. Swing and a pop off in foul ground. He makes the grab and that’ll do it. Guardians go down one, two, three, but they’re on top one- nothing. ready to go for the last half of the inning. So up now for Kansas City. Jonathan India India and that gets the top of the zone for a strike. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away. [Music] Swing and a ball lifted to center field. Martinez makes the grab. One away. Now batting the designated hitter, Bobby Wit. Now here’s Bobby Whit Jr. He was a strikeout victim his first time. Whit Jr. is one of only two players in AL history to have 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in each of his first two seasons. Boo. The other player, Julio Rodriguez. The Guardians up by a run. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. The 1-1 is fouled off. [Music] Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And Chris, that’s a way to neutralize his speed by keeping him off base. And the defense breathes a sigh of relief because he puts pressure on everyone if he can put the ball in play. But that’s how you do it. Keep him off balance, get him out of there, and deal with the next guy. And here’s the first baseman, Vinnie Pasquantino. And that’s outside. Two outs. That missed by a lot. Down two and 0. Check. Swing. Called. Strike. Let’s go, Vinnie. That one fouled off. Two and two. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And a nice inning of work there as he sets him down. One, two, three. Royals bats are quiet there. They still trail one- nothing. Back here at Coffman Stadium, we go to the top of the fifth. Now at the plate, Brian Rochio, Cameron back to work. The shorts stop takes the ball. You know, these Guardians doing a good job of putting the ball into play and that makes things more challenging on the defensive side. One thing that really stands out to me is how they’ve only struck out one time. That’s good discipline right there. And on top of it, they’re producing more than a hit per inning. Close but called a ball. Three balls, no strikes. There’s a strike. All those numbers mean this offense is really making the defense work by just putting the ball into play. Anything can happen at that point. [Applause] [Music] Popped up to the left into foul ground. Catcher tosses the mask, settles under it, and makes the grab. And there’s one down. Up next for Cleveland, the catcher, Bo Naylor. And now the catcher comes up to him. Bo Naylor singled and scored his first time. Fast ball in the inside corner for a strike. and he chases that one below the zone. Benny really sells the change up with that arm action. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Let’s do this. Next one misses now. Two and two. That’s inside. That one lined in left field and that’s base hit. And now the lineup turns over with one away. Now batting the left field. So the Guardians lineup turns over. Steven Quan digs in for the Guardians and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. [Applause] [Music] swing and a fly ball in the air out towards right center field. Makes a nice run of catch. Two-way down. They trust him in center field because he’s capable of making plays on the run. And we saw it right there. That’s a player you want patrolling center field. Someone who can attack the ball off the bat. So up next, Anel Martinez for two in this one. [Music] And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Naylor off of first with two away. Next pitch is inside and the count is one and one. Come on. in the air right side and a superb diving catch. Great diving catch to end the inning. That’ll fire up the dugout for sure. Time to go swing it. [Applause] We head to the bottom of the fifth. Head to the plate for Kansas City. Mel Garcia. Garcia. [Applause] Little bit low. That’s a ball. [Applause] And another ball. Two balls. No strike. [Applause] Right through there for a strike. That one’s in there. Two and two [Music] in the air out towards right center. Martinez on the move to the gap and there’s one down. That’s just a really nice catch on the one right there. He saved extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. Not giving him a pitch to hit there isn’t a bad thing. He’s dealing with a great first pitch hitter up there. Next offering is fouled back. The Royals trailing by a run. Last half of inning number five. And a fast ball clips the outside corner for a strike. One ball, two strikes. in the air. Right field. Jones sizing this one up. Snags it for the second out. Up next for the Royals. The right fielder. Jack Kagleon. The next to hit. First time up was a pop out. And that’s outside. That one inside. And now two and 0. Next offering is fouled back. Next one misses and the count is three and one. A rare three ball count here. He’s been throwing strikes all day. Got to be ready to hit if you’re in the box. Swings through that one for strike two. Look at Sharp just a strike away from five shut out innings. Foul ball and it remains a full count. He’s mixing his pitches really well late on that fast ball after seeing the change up. See if he can elevate one. Think if he does he’ll get the swing and miss. 3-2 inside ball four. That’s a great at bat. He saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk. Well, two out walks are never good, especially when you’re trying to get back into that dugout. But he’s still in a good spot. He’s just got to refocus and deal with the bottom of this order. [Applause] Loftton in the box now. No balls in a strike. He’s pitching well, but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes. Usually doesn’t work out for success, but you can never predict baseball. That misses. Going to count one and two. [Music] Battling here as he fouls it away. You got this. That’s outside. It’s two and two in there. Got him looking and that one split the plate. So, one left for Kansas City. Still behind by a count of one to nothing. All set for the top of the sixth. And now it’s switchhitting third baseman Jose Ramirez. Singy. He’s a guy that covers both sides of the plate about as well as anyone in the sport. How difficult is that to do? Well, just look at the back of my bubblegum card. You’ll see how hard it is these. Now, this down the right field line. Fair ball. Should be extra bases. It’s a double. Third hit of the night for him. Oh, this has been a really nice game at the plate for him. He looks locked in. I don’t know how he’s able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it. That pitch was inside and he let it get really deep. So, pretty incredible hands to fight it off and still get good wood on it. And the Royals manager making his way towards the mound now as he will make the move. Noah Cameron out of the game and he’s responsible for the runner on second. So, the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. Now pitching for new pitcher in the game for the Royals, Anel Sera. Well, he’s been excellent against left-handed hitters this year, and that’s his first test. This looks like a good move to the pin in terms of the matchup. Now, the four-hole hitter for the Guardians, Kyle Manzardo. Foul ball there. [Applause] Come on. Next offering is fouled back. Runner in scoring position. Nobody out. And we’re in the top half of the sixth. Outside with a breaking ball. That misses the zone and the count is two and two. And that just misses. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. Ramirez at second with nobody out. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. stays alive. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. Grinding AB right here. About to see pitch number 10. Foul ball and it remains a full count. man at second and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again and ball four to a board. Well, he took his chance at getting him to chase right there, but with first base open walk not a bad thing. He’s set up a double play opportunity if he can induce a ground ball. First and second, no outs. And up next for Cleveland, Carlos Santana, one for two, [Applause] just missed. Activity in the Kansas City bullpen. Taylor Clark up and loosening in the pen. Sig getting loose as well. [Applause] [Music] check swing and he went. That’s strike one. One [Applause] chopped to third. Loftton whips it across and that is a big first out. Boo. That’s a good at bat simply because they found a way to move both runners up a base. Now they’re in a really good spot with two runners in scoring position. So digging in Nolan Jones and that’s through there for a strike and it’s 0 and one. Well, in this situation with runners on, you got to get ahead in the count so that you can dictate the rest of the at bat. Nice job right there. And a foul ball. Second and third. One away. That’s down and in. [Music] Got him looking. That’s a strike out so far. Just one of those days for this lineup. You get a couple of runners on and you’re looking at having a big inning and that strike out right there just pours water on the fire. Look for the next hitter to step up and try to do something. Pick up his teammate and his club. Daniel Schne digs in for the Guardians. [Applause] Fast ball for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Second and third, two down. [Applause] Pitch misses and now it’s even one and one. And that one fouled off. Finished him. And there’s the ball. The guy at the plate could recognize Slider out of the hand. Didn’t stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception. He knew right away it was an off speed pitch. Spoils that one and it remains two and two. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. On the ground, India throws to first in time. Third out, that ends the frame. So, it’s no runs on a hit, no errors, and two are left. 891 scheduled in the bottom of the sixth. It’s the Guardians one and the Royals nothing. Back here in Kansas City, there we go. Bottom six now the left fielder John Ra these fans definitely want to get involved in the game. All it’s going to take is to get the leadoff man or even a base runner on. Pitch misses inside and that’s ball one. Right through there for a strike. [Music] swing and a miss and that’s strike two. It really looks like these hitters have been in between with their timing today. Good fast ball, excellent slider, but they’ve not been able to commit to one velocity and stay there. Next offering is downstairs. [Applause] That one misses. So, a lead off walk that could jump start an offense that’s really struggling to score this. Don’t want to wake a team up with the free pass. And here is Kyle Isel 0 for one so far. [Applause] swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. [Applause] Ground ball right side could be two to second for one out of Santana two. They made that double play look so easy but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big leaguers. They make tough plays look simple. Jonathan India at the plate [Applause] and the first pitch misses for ball one. Two down, nobody on here in the bottom of the six. That clips the corner. I got one ball, one strike. falling behind two and one. [Applause] [Music] Next offering is fouled back. Fouls it back with two strikes. [Music] Foul ball. Another two- two upcoming. That one just misses. Wow. This guy’s really battling up there as if his run is the game-winning run. I love his tenacity. Line drive and foul ball. Well, he’s having a tough time getting the pitch by him. As a hitter, you feel pretty confident that you’re seeing different pitches. Still able to make some type of contact. Throw on to Santana. That’s the third out. Inning over. Nothing doing for the Royals. They trail here one- nothing. A new pitcher in the game, Lucas Ers. They know that he can get a right-hander out, but he’s in position to face a couple of lefties this inning. Lucas. [Applause] So, in now for Cleveland, Brian Roio. Brian Rochio. That one hammered but pulled foul. Sig measures 6’2 in 29 years old and he was a second round pick back in 2016. Next pitch misses way outside. [Music] The one-1 is fouled off. Oh, that got away from him. And he’s going to reach on a hit by pitch to lead off the inning. Leading off for the And next is the Guardians catcher, B Naylor. He’s two for two. And a pop off right side. Foul territory. Catcher tosses the mask. Settles under it. One away. That was a good hard fast ball with some nice ride up in the zone right there. Hitter looked like he was on it, but I think that velocity at the end just beat him. Instead of a line drive or something hit deep, it’s a pop up and an easy out for the defense. Quan stands in now and watches strike one. That’s good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. Oh, that’s what it was. A swing at it. He had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. 0 and two now. Inside gets out of the way. Straighten him up a little bit. [Music] fights that one away. Still one and two. Just misses with that one. Well, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the at bat. But I’m sure there’s sometimes where a pitch would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter. Loftton under it and there’s two away. The center fielder number one, Anel Martinez. Anel Martinez digs in for the Guardians. 0 for three in this one. Let’s go. Come on. Let’s go. That breaking ball drops in for a strike. Dangerous spot for that slider right there. Didn’t seem to quite finish out front and get that sharp break. Tell you what, he doesn’t want to throw that pitch again. Swinging a miss and a slider. Two really good backto-back sliders now in an 02 count. He’s feeling real confident about finishing this hitter off. He can go anywhere he wants. Foul ball still 0 and two. Really great change of speeds. He goes off the off speed to the fast ball and the hitter doesn’t know what’s coming next. One ball, two strikes. Rochio leads off first with two down to the inning. Wow. Triple digits on the gun. I I know there are more pitchers that can reach that now than in the past, but it’s still impressive to watch. Foul ball still a one and two count. [Music] Strike him out. Sit him down. This to third. What a stop. And he can’t come up with it. And no shot to get him at first. There’s two aboard. Oh, that one right there had the looks on one of those plays of the week. Great diving stop, but he just couldn’t set up to make a good throw. Maybe got a little too excited. He was probably feeling it as well, but either way, that’s a tough play and a tough error. First and second, two outs. Jose Ramirez now at the plate. Just missed. [Applause] The next offering misses and it’s two and 0. Good spot for the hitter. Definitely has the advantage in this count with runners on. Look for him to be aggressive on this next pitch. And another ball played umpires trying to tighten things up a little bit. Kyle Manardo on deck for the Guardians. And a strike right through there. That one in triple digits. First and second, two down here in the top half of inning number seven. Strike two. And there’s a real chance they get out of this without allowing a run. Spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another. [Applause] Bells that off to the left and we’ll do it again. [Applause] And a foul ball. He stays alive. And with two outs and the count full, the runners will be on the move. [Applause] He fouls it off. Will do it again. [Applause] Two on, two outs. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. [Applause] Keeps the advant going with a foul ball. [Applause] Caught him looking for the K. He’s in a tough spot. Had to make a great pitch. Did it. Got the strike out. Gets out of the jam. Clearly, he’s happy with those results. Bottom of the seventh. And now the DH. Bobby Wit Jr. [Applause] in there at the knees. One try to keep good speed off the bases. Next pitch way upstairs. Activity in the bullpen. Colobby Allard, the left-hander up and throwing. Enright warming up as well. [Applause] Yeah, that’s fouled off. Cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. A big first out here in the seventh via the punch out. Yeah, it just does so much to change the outlook of an important inning like this. You got the lead off so critical in setting the table when you got a tight game like this. So a strike out really puts them on their heels. And now the first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino just missed one. Trying to hold a one-run lead here in the bottom of the seventh. just missed. You get to this part of the order. Yeah, there’s some pop there, but more likely there’s some base hits. So, very important to be patient. Let the pitcher walk you if you will. Here’s a highf fly ball out to center. Drops into the glove out number two. The batter number 11, shortstop, Mike. That’ll be the cleanup hitter for the Royals. Mike Garcia. And a strike on the outside edge. 01’s the count. [Music] Line to left. He’s got it. And that’ll end the inning. Still in total command on the mound with seven shutout innings. It’s the Guardians one and the Royals nothing. Now pitching for righty reliever out of the pen. John Shriber. He’s been so good against lefties. Shriber stepping up for the Guardians. Kyle Manardo. The designated hitter. Kyle Manzardo. Let’s go. inside corner and that’s called a strike. [Music] A rope into right and that’s a base hit. So a man on base to start the inning. That ball was absolutely ripped. 111 off the bat and I’m pretty sure it started to whistle after it left the bat. I think I heard that too. Boo. And these are the moments we appreciate when we can look at Statcast and just see exactly what the data is. Always so rudder takes off. Swing and a miss. Roll tag out. What a throw by Salvador Perez. Man, I see him trying to be aggressive right there late in this ball game. Try to add on to that lead. You know, I really like the thought, but it just didn’t work out that time. Nice job by the defense right there to keep things right where they are in terms of the score. misses the zone for a ball. That was the sweeper. Meanwhile, activity of the bullpen. A couple of righties getting it going. One down, base is empty. And they’ll do it again. Come on. You can do it. Swinging a miss. That one in the dirt. Perez down to first with it. Ow. Two away now after the drop third strike. Now it’s the right fielder Nolan Jones. Jones and that’s in for a strike. One’s the count. [Applause] That catches the outside corner with two now. Ball one there. O2 fast ball way out of the zone. I think he’s trying to speed him up. Got to stay back. Off speed’s probably coming. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the eighth. Foul ball left side. He’ll see another. No. Inside [Music] on the ground to third. Tosses across to first. And that is that. Guardians fail to score. They lead it one- nothing. Back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Nick Enright. Well, the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect a tight lead late in the ball game. Some of them are just wired different. So, we’ll see what he’s got here. Now for Kansas City, Salvador Perez. Salvador Perez. it on the ground to short zips it across and they get Perez for the out. That’s a huge defensive play in the late stages of the game. It might not be the most challenging we’ve seen today, but it needed to be made. That’s helping your team. And next up for the Royals, Jack Kaggle Leone. Corner infielders guarding the lines trying to prevent extra bases. This one in the air [Applause] and a couple of quick outs. Now batting the third baseman, Nick Loftton. So they’re making a move for a bat off the bench. Freddy for me. Big spot for him here. [Applause] First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Looking to get the tying run on base. So, two balls and no strikes. [Music] Outside corner. There’s a strike. Oh, that’s in. John Ray in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. [Music] And the tying run is on base. [Applause] Now batting the left field runner at first with two away. John Ray steps in for the Royals. Typically the outfield defense will play a little bit deeper just to keep the ball in front. Make sure that runner on first doesn’t come all the way around to score and tie this ball game up. Well, with the tying run at first base, he’s looking for something he can get a lot of barrel on. Drive it into a gap and score that run from first base. Swang and a ball lifted in the air. He’s got it and the inning is over. Royals leave one and it remains one- nothing. We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound, Jonathan Bolan. And compared to a lot of other relievers, strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year. So, the defense should be active. Adam Frasier now in the game as he takes over third. Third base, number 26. Well, one-run game. Daniel Schne digs in for the Guardians. [Applause] And that drops in for a strike. Bullpen action for the Royals. A lefty up and throwing out there. [Applause] Well, he didn’t like those first two pitches now in an 02 hole. He’s going to have to battle. Hope he gets a mistake. [Music] [Applause] [Applause] And that one is downstairs at the count. One and two. Ball in. Strike three. Got him with the back door breaking ball. I’d say that was a pretty generous call right there. And when a pitcher’s getting that call, there’s really not much you can do about it as a hitter. And you know what? Guys today are so disciplined to stay with their approach and game plan. Not surprised at all that he took that pitch. And up next for Cleveland, Brian Rokio. And first offering is fouled off. One-run game here in the top of the ninth. This to center field. Isbel makes the grab and there’s two down. Oh, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. [Applause] Naylor in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. [Applause] That pitch in for a strike. and two swings and misses on the fast ball up in the zone for the strike out. Three up, three down for him there and 912 scheduled to lead off the bottom of the ninth. It’s the Guardians one and the Royals nothing. back now and on the mound the closer Emanuel Class. Save opportunity for him right here and he’s their guy. Time to lock this one down and get out of here with the W. Class stepping in. Kyle is so important to stay within yourself, especially for this hitter. Not known to be a power guy or a home run hitter. He needs to set the table by getting on with a walk or a base hit. In there at the knees. Strike one. 01’s the count. That one in triple digits and two and that’s in the dirt. Two straight. [Music] BS it off. Still one and two. [Music] [Applause] One-run game. Bottom nine. Fights that one away. Still one and two. [Applause] And that one moves his feet. Still two and two after the foul ball. Fights it off. He’ll see another [Applause] Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Five foul balls in this at bat so far and these two are going headto head. You can see the crowd. They’re starting to get into it a little bit more and more. Oh, that got him. And that’ll put the tying run on base to start the inning. Back to the top of the now. Jonathan India steps in for the Royals. Off is on. You got to be looking for the button here. Trying to get him into scoring position. [Applause] Strike one. Oh, this is a case of just slowing the game down. Sometimes you get so concerned with getting the job done, you forget that you still have to get a good pitch to do the job with. [Applause] popped up and a foul ball. A oneun lead. The home team trying to pull it out. [Applause] Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2. [Applause] This one popped up middle of the infield, Santana. And it’s caught for the out. The batter number seven, designated hitter Bobby. He’s two outs away. Bobby Whit Jr. steps in for the Royals. 0 for three with three strikeouts. [Applause] And that finds the mark on the outside corner going one. Well, so many hard throwing relievers in the game these days. You would think that hitters have made the adjustment, but I don’t know if you ever get used to it. Just pumping gas out of the bullpen. So hard to play catchup. Class throws to first. Isel back in on a dive. I think you want to get a one-way lead, be very aggressive in the secondary. This hitter, not a power guy, so you want to make sure that you can get some length on the secondary lead and perhaps score on a ball in the gap. Tying run at first, the winning run at the plate. That one to first and that goes foul. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] swing and a miss. That’s a strike out. Royals down to their final out and he’ll be beating himself all the way back to the dugout. Got a pitch to hit and he just couldn’t get to it. I think that slider really caught way more of the plate than it was supposed to. Last chance for the Royals. Now it’s going to be Vinnie Pasquantino. [Applause] And a strike right through there. That one in triple digits. trying to keep the game alive here in the bottom of the ninth. [Applause] Runner on the goal. Ball outside. Throw to second. Tag out and that’s the ball game. Well, this one was all about the pitching and defense. Outstanding job of the pitchers really attacking hitters, trusting what the catcher was putting down and trusting the players standing behind him to make the plays defensively. Sometimes you want to see a high-scoring game, but sometimes you can appreciate the artistic beauty of what these pitchers did on the mound today. The final one to nothing for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami saying so long.
