Benches clear in Cardinals vs. Padres after Machado & Contreras were hit twice | ESPN MLB

And Contras gets hit. That’s twice in the series. It’s around the hand again. And he is about to boil over. Now Machado takes a look at Greno. He gets clipped for a second time. [Applause] Aado’s been hit by a pitch twice tonight. Those are the first two of the year. He was plunked only one time last year. Interesting. It’s Contras and Machado who are in lock step heading toward the first base bag again. It was earlier with Contras him getting hit. We had it with Pava yesterday. [Applause] [Music]

The benches cleared in a Cardinals-Padres game for the second straight night Saturday as St. Louis’ Willson Contreras and San Diego’s Manny Machado each got hit twice by pitches.

  1. Why everybody keeps doing this lame ritual?
If the pitcher really made a mistake, he just takes his cap off, apologizes and there is no retaliation. If the pitcher did it on purpose, let the batter and pitcher do a hockey fight for one minute. Those feel like what real men should do.

  2. It's such an easy thing to control, all they have to do is write a RULE for this.
The first team to clear the bench LOSES the game. Period!!!! End of!!!!
This whole handbags thing in MLS with all the girls with end immediately if they just quit being babies with the rules. No more bench-leaving!!!!! Simples!!!!!
Now girls get back on your butt on the bench!!!!
