David Bednar’s 100th Career Save Seals Bucs Win | Diamondbacks vs. Pirates Game Highlights (7/26/25)

So much speculation and understandable that the trade deadline is Thursday and it is no secret. Haney signed a one year free agent deal and a team looking for a veteran lefty, no doubt the Pirates are fielding calls, getting calls and talking about probably several players on this team and tries to get it going. That goes off the glove of the over Pague the second baseman and rolls into center and Marte in the leadoff spot is aboard to get things started up. Corbin Carroll no score top of the first leadoff man aboard for the D backs. This will be the eighth pitch of the at bat swing and a miss struck him out high fastball above the zone that poor fastball at the top of the zone. He was getting a lot of swing and miss early on in the season. That’s a good sign right there. These two combatants right now, Heaney and Suarez come Thursday , they might not be wearing these uniforms. All kinds of trade rumors surrounding players like Suarez and Heaney swinging a pop up in the infield back tracking it will carry out the shallow right field and it will be Cruz calling everybody off to make the catch two in the inning for Kelly his job tonight obviously to pick up where ryan Nelson left off last night and trying to get a series victory. But with the drama of the trade deadline, the question is, will this be the last time we see Kelly in that Arizona uniform right on the corner and he rings up Mccutchen with a slider first strikeout, beautiful pitch gloves on the outside corner just nails it. Ryan Reynolds, which hitter gobbled up by Alexander, he’ll halfway to first and over handed to Tristan English and a 123 1st for Meryl Kelly. Andrew Heaney retires the leadoff man in the second and now Tristan English fastball second K for Heaney really, really good sign for andrew Heaney. He pitches into the second inning just being able to work at the top with that fastball. Here’s James mccann with two out to do a little bit up. Did he go? Yes, the app, that’s the third strikeout for Heaney tonight. A couple of strong innings here from Andrew Heaney going to the bottom of the second. Nothing, nothing. Tommy Pham has just been a dynamic player over the last month. He is used to this time of year being part of trade rumors. He’s been a bunch. Geno had it in the glove and dropped. It would have been easy to on that one. I would say that over the last three or four games the way he’s been chasing the pitches outside the zone. This defensive play, it’s hard to convince an observer that the trade deadline stuff is not getting to his head. You have o’neil Cruz up that can change the scoreboard with one swing really quick, fly ball right center field. Just a matter of where it lands is way gone. A Cruz missile. He clears the deck with his 17th cannonball and he does change the scoreboard real quick. 2 to 0. That is the thing you love about o’neal Cruz in a lineup with runners on base. He can put up a cricket number really fast. Get off to an early 2 to 0 lead. Thanks to the long ball from o’neil Cruz, his first home run since the home run derby and this home run ball is hot. Let’s see. She, she go look at that. I got it. Oh, that is so precious. It was so many hands in front of that, so excited and she’s gonna give it to that young fan. That’s for you. She says Horowitz a single the lead off the third against Merrill Kelly. Now it’s three and one on the nomo smothers. It plays for one and they roll it terrific play by Geraldo Perdomo and Alexander with that strong arm able to turn it in second base. What a play that was, I mean, that’s a highlight play. Perdomo stretches out. This ball is hit hard and stays on the ground dives and gets up , gets the ball, Alexander quickly and with Blaze’s strong arm, he can just make a little snap throw and get that ball over to English for the double play pham in his last 22 games is hitting 387. So he’s really racking up the hits on board for the second time tonight. Pretty deep. Right center Corbin, a sliding grab in deep, right center field takes extra bases away. Another beauty from Corin Carroll in the outfield. Bart who singled his first at bat, a swing and a liner down into the corner and a fair ball for Bart, it will bounce over that short wall. It will be an automatic double and that makes Pham stuck at third base. He would have scored if that didn’t hit that the side wall. I think that’s absolutely a pirate run right there. Had to stop at third, popped out his first time pitch on the ground hard and short right to Prado who will throw to first in time to get peguero and the inning is over and we might have a trade that’s just gone down. We’re looking inside the diamondback dugout and everybody is hugging and hand given the trade deadline is less than a week away. We can guess and probably be correct that he might have just been traded. Nick poor tweeting that has just been traded to the Kansas City Royals. The Royals like the Diamondbacks two games under 500. They are only a few games out of the American League wild card race and they apparently have just acquired Randall Briick from the Diamondbacks. So out the door hugs from all his teammates. So two outs with man at first, here’s the number nine hitting geraldo popped it up. Hayes calling for it. This is absolutely one of andrew. He’s best starts of the year. He and the Pirates lead two and Merrill is down six in a row. Merrill at 83 pitches. No action in the D backs pen as of yet. Here is o’neil Cruz who just became the first Pirate in franchise history and it’s a long history here with at least 40 RBIs and 30 before August 1st Cruz off the end of the bat to right center field and it shy of the track and a 1236 for Kelly set down seven in a row. One out runners for Pittsburgh left for the number nine man coming up. So Frank War up in the bullpen ryan out to the mound to try and buy some more time for so with Merrill at 98 pitches, he got, that is his last man tonight. I would love to see him get a ground ball, double play here. There’s a double play ball. Perdomo smothers. Tough play. They get one, they cannot get two. Jerry, couldn’t quite pick it up or get up after he stopped that from getting into left center and they do get the one out as Mart gets into the third. That should have had Meryl Kelly out of the sitting. But a tricky play for Jerry right there. Great job by Barrow. So has done a nice job since he’s come in here will be on the move from first with two outs. Pittsburgh up 2 to 0 and a Miss , he went with a curveball and he got the big strikeout to strand two. Andrew Sore keeps it a 2 to 0 game. David Bednar. It’s been fun to watch him just return to form 15 to 15 that opportunity, an average of 218. This would be a good match up right here against Suarez swing and a miss struck him out on three curveballs one out and the last two bouncing way out of the strike zone. That’s some serious chasing there by Suarez guessing fastball in all three or guessing striker. I don’t know he’s guessing one out for Jorge LaRosa the other way had a good job. That’s a heck of a play by Tommy Pham. Excellent play by pham. I mean, that’s what he’s been doing on defense all year. He’s scuffling with the bat early in the season, but still playing great defense that has not changed. Adrian Del Castillo will pinch it for Tristan English. The rookie left handed batter some pop. Hey, stuck him out Bednar gets him on the curveball and the Pirates shut out Arizona 2 to 0 on the Cruz home run that does it for the Bucks tonight and a milestone 100 career saves for David Bednar.

The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-0 at PNC Park on July 26, 2025. Oneil Cruz hit a 2-run 410-foot home run and Andrew Heaney threw five scoreless innings with four strikeouts. David Bednar got his 100th career save. David Bednar is one of only five pitchers in Pirates history with 100 career saves.
