Coach Brian Daboll on the Giants QB Situation and More | New York Giants

How did Burns and Wanddale come out of that collision? Uh, they came out. Yeah. So, they’ll be out here today. They’ll be full go today. They’ll be doing certain things, but they’ll be out of practice. It was a It was a unbelievable hustle play by Burns, you know, all the way down the field. And he’s had, I’d say, a number of those this camp. His effort has been outstanding and friendly fire and um so they’ll be out here. We’ll do what we think is best for him. No concussion for want for either. Yeah, we we they’ll be out here. So, we’ll do what we think is best. You say yeah. Hold on. I just want to clarify. When you say yeah, you mean you’re saying yeah, that they don’t have concussion. Yeah, that’s why they’re out here. If they did have a concussion, they would not be out here. There’s a part of the pro there’s a part of the protocol where they come out of this. Yeah, they’ll be out here working. How’s Jaylen doing with it? So, how we doing, Judy? Good. How How’s uh Jaylen doing? doing more today. One more time, Jaylen. Jaylen. Yeah, he’ll he’ll be out here. We’ll kind of ease him in um you know to practice and see where he’s at. Evaluate him at the early part of practice and and see where he’s at. Understanding that uh pads have not come on yet, what has been your first week impression of Abdul Carter’s explosiveness? Yeah, again, he’s um you know, he’s been a good player in college. He’s had a couple good days here. He’s had a good OTAAS. You know, we’ll continue to evaluate him through throughout camp when the pads come on, but he’s done a nice job for us. You guys did a pretty I mean, ridiculous amount of homework on on Carter. I’m sure you studied them and watch all of that stuff before you dropped him, but now that you’re seeing him every day and you have him in the building, like, is there anything he’s doing maybe that you didn’t see on that film or or anything that’s surprised? No, he’s been he’s been a consistent guy for us as a as a young player. Um, I think he’s done a nice job in the meeting rooms. Tibs and Burns done a nice job with him. Chanty and he just practices hard. He practices the right way and there’s, you know, there’s mistakes just like there is for every young player and then there’s good plays and there’s plays to improve on. So, um, you know, he’s been a good good addition to our team. We’ll see how he goes with the pads get on the last, you know, few days since he Yeah. Um, again, much like all the rookies, uh, first training camp, some good, some things to improve on, but he’s got the right mindset. He’s he’s here real late. He works. He’s, you know, it’s good to see him kind of finish a drive yesterday or two days ago throwing it where he needs to throw it. Keep working with him. Things when you go into a period, what do you got, buddy? Sorry. What’s the best part about being Giants head coach? Well, there’s a lot of good things. the relationships that that I get to to build with with the players and the coaches. There’s no substitute for winning, but um you know, it’s an honor and a privilege to be here. You got one? Are you good? You sure? Okay. Um so, how do you pick like which quarterback to play? Because there’s like four great ones. You fit right in with all these guys. Yeah. So, uh, you know, Russ is our starter. He’s done this for a long time. He’s had a he’s had a really good camp since he’s been here. And then the other three guys have done a great job, too. So, I like our quarterback room. They’re they’re working hard. They’re going out every day. They’re doing the things they need to do. It’s It’s a good group to be around. You’re welcome. With Jame, he’s obviously been a very explosive guy. All right. I got you next. No, go ahead. Go ahead, Mark. Um James has been a very explosive guy over the years and stuff, you know, prone to throw a lot of touchdown passes, but also, you know, giving it away. What what’s what are you working with him on that, you know, in terms of, you know, what’s the trick to try to lower the picks? Well, he’s got a lot of confidence in his arm and even these first few days, you could see, you know, he lets it go and there’s there’s a number of people in a in a certain area and he lets it go before the receiver turns his head. So, the receivers’s got to do a good job, too. for tight ends or running backs of of getting their eyes back and knowing it’s coming. Uh, you know, talented player. That’s why he was picked where he was picked years back. Um, and he’s not afraid. He’s he he’ll throw it in there. So, um, making the right decisions at the right time, knowing where to go with the football, no fear mentality, which he has obviously, and continue to work with them on on how we do things, how we read our footwork, so the timing matches up and, you know, don’t overthink. I’m going to do like just let it go. You had said going back in, you know, all the way to the draft when Jackson came in that you guys would have that plan, but a big part of that was going to be throw things at him that he’s not expecting on a day-to-day basis. Are there days where you’ve gone out so far and you’ve you’ve known in your head, you know what, we’re going to throw this when Jackson is in there and let’s see how he responds and it’s been good or bad and how he’s reacted. Like, have you seen what you’ve needed to see? Yeah, and we’ll continue to do that. I mean, a lot of I would say a lot of coaches that that have young quarterbacks kind of do that. If you look around the league, whether it’s a situation or putting him in after a bad play or giving him a pressure that he might have not seen, you you try to give him as much as you can give him so that each day you can learn from it. So, if there’s a good play that you have, you go ahead and give them positive reinforcement. And when there’s a play that maybe wasn’t executed the exact right way, you you try to get another look at that sometime down the line and keep dibs on on where they’re at. We do that with all the quarterbacks, but certainly with Jackson, what was the thinking behind putting him in for those last few reps on Friday and with Jamus driving? Yeah. Give them give them good another good situation there at the end of a drive in the red zone. How do you go about, you know, deciding? You flip the two of them kind of in their role, the second and third team. I’m talking about Jackson and Jameus. Yeah. what how you go about deciding when to do that. Is it pre-planned and um what’s your thought process behind that? Yeah, I think CF and Shay have done have done a nice job of of divvying up the reps the way we need to divvy him up. Um again, sometimes they don’t even know when they’re going in or the offensive coaches don’t know when I’m switching them either. That was a situation there at the end where Jameus was taking a rack and I I just threw dart in there. So try to keep the coaches on their toes and and the quarterbacks um so they they can practice numerous situations. Brought up I just have to follow up on that. Will you want to make a decision on that at some point in camp or is that like Yeah. No, we’re in day four here. We’ll keep on giving them reps and um we’ll keep improving these guys. Malik was talking about um Russ’s impact that maybe we don’t see for him. He he recalled a play I guess the other day in practice where you know he thought it was man when they broke the huddle thought it was man he was expecting Russ to check out of the play and then Russ didn’t and it was zone and Russ was right and I guess they made a play. How how much of that that Russ is there now is leading to I don’t know a bigger impact across the entire offense because of what he’s seeing already in camp where you’re not really studying the defense. Sure. Ahead of time. Yeah. Again, you have a player that has a tremendous amount of experience, a lot of success. There’s not a defense that he hasn’t seen since he’s played. And again, we’re we’re still working and putting pieces together to um you know, make sure the offense is effective for everybody, but particularly the quarterbacks. But he’s, you know, he’s done this a long time. He’s got good eyes. He communicates well. He sees certain things. He gives good feedback. He’s a good listener, too. So, he’s he’s done a nice job for us. Brian, what’s your thoughts of uh how JMS has played so far in camp? Obviously, looked like a couple high snaps there. Yeah, we don’t want to have those high snaps, no question. Um, you know, I think the lineman, we’ll get into the lineman here in the next couple days and we get power rushes and games and, you know, there’s there’s a variety of things, but line’s been working good together. Got one more day here until we get the pads on. But John Michael’s been a good leader for us. We’ve seen a lot of top five, six drafted edge rushers in the draft, and they usually come in and have pretty good impact. Kon being one of them. Is what makes Carter different the versatility. Is that an unique part of him that maybe not all those guys who come into the league have? And was that important to you since you already had two guys there on the edge? Well, you were able to go back the year before too and see him play another position off the ball and see the impact he had there running through gaps and chasing people down. And that’s part of it when you’re evaluating a player is the vision you have for the player when they’re coming into your team. But until they get here, Connor’s question, and kind of see him move around and and ultimately see how they how they handle it mentally, can they pick it up? Do they have the instincts to do it, which he certainly has, I’d say, very, very good instincts as a football player. Some players do exactly what’s on the paper, the line, and I run 12 yards, I stop, I turn. And then you have other players that are very instinctive players that, well, I mean, if I run to 12 yards and turn here, I’m going to be covered. Or if I do this, it’s not. So, uh, he’s a little bit of a C ball, getball kind of guy, and again, he’s done a nice job with what we’ve asked him to do. We’ll see how it grows.

  1. My Giants need to get going here, 7 wins in 2 years, 4 and 3,forget about the fancy hand shake, win win win win , coach was lost in the hallways of the building, G.m. thinking that he is safer than coach, not ๐Ÿค”

  2. Hereโ€™s what us old heads say about this all so called coach win or go we donโ€™t care what you got to say anymore you been getting worse since the first year why take over play calling when just leave it with Mike heโ€™s better at it just be the coach donโ€™t be to much thatโ€™s a migraine on the team and all round want us to win thatโ€™s all you got to do

  3. The one thing i dont like about Daboll is how he holds back from answering questions with answers that don't need to be withheld for competitive advantage. It IS ok to talk about someone's progress in a direct way without saying "well, everyone needs to develop."

  4. I swear I can predict what his response is to every question. Too much of a politician answering these questions. Thats how they convinced Mr.Mara to let him keep his job.

  5. It's imperative that Daboll believes in Russ though. HOW CORPORATE IS THIS LEAGUE? I mean is this team TRYING TO WIN A SUPERBOWL THIS SEASON? Or are we rebuilding? Does NYC rebuild? LET THE LIONS REBUILD…

  6. Ohh yeah, Giants fans are eager to see the new strategy developed by Brian Daboll and his coaching staff, which is being worked on during this training camp, implementing in the 2025-26 season. We hope it's a great path to a fantastic season๐ŸคŒ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘!!!
    ๐Ÿˆ Let's go Giants ๐Ÿคช๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿค—โค๏ธ๐ŸŒผ!!!

  7. He said Abdul Carter is a see-ball-get-ball player. However, Kayvon Thibodeaux is a โ€œsee ball let the next guy" get the ball player. And he will be exposed this season for taking plays off.

  8. What the point of him drafting dart when he might be fired him and Joe on the hot seat ๐Ÿ˜‚ then you forcing the next Head coach and GM to stick with a QB he didn't draft ๐Ÿ˜‚

  9. Sometimes I get frustrated with his lack of answering questions. Heโ€™s a good coach has a coty award. The media just asks dumb questions that wouldnโ€™t be answered by anyone
