MLB LIVE🔴 Minnesota Twins vs Washington Nationals – Jul 27, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

joined by my partner Chris Singleton. I’m John Shami. The first half of the All-Star break is behind us and partner, it’s go time in the second half. And if you want to be playing meaningful games at the end of September, you got to put your head down and grind for the next eight weeks. It’s the Washington Nationals taking on the Minnesota Twins. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. Just about set now. The starting pitcher in this one, Simeon Woods Richardson. And Singi, we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. Well, he’s been a very dependable starter for his club. And what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him. And it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball. Maybe it’s the release point, maybe it’s the motion, but just some way somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side. That one finds the zone and that is strike two. Got him. Swaggy tied him up on a fast inside. Usually you’re going to see that inside fast a little longer coming in from the opposite side, but that pitch really got in on him right there. I mean, that’s a well thrown pitch. Tough to do anything with that in terms of getting the hands through and the sweet spot of the bat to the baseball. And now James Wood. That one down the line and foul ball. Woods Richardson a 63 righty 210 lbs and he was drafted in the eighth round back in 2018. in the air left side. Fader two-way down as we take a look at the Nationals lineup. Not a team that usually sees a lot of pitches or works a ton of walks. Chris, they take a more aggressive approach than some of the other teams in the league. They definitely have a few free swingers in this lineup. Hitchers who want to be on the attack and that’s great as long as you got pitches in the zone. But if the pitcher is able to expand the zone, can be very difficult for an offense like this to get going. You’ve got to somehow draw some walks, put some runners on base so that when you do have those free swingers come up, you can cash in with some runs that are plated and he can’t come up with it. Still fires to first. Third out and that ends the frame. Nothing doing it for Washington. And now the Twins will go to work on offense. We’ve got no score. Back after this on the show back in Minnesota and on the mound for Washington in this one, Mike Siroka. Yeah. And as Whip tells you, he’s been pretty effective this year on the mound. I mean, opposing hitters having a hard time getting on base and then being able to really distract him and do damage in terms of getting around the base path. So, part of the mound, this is a guy you want out there if you’re his teammate and I expect him to be good in this one. And now for the Twins, Byron Buckton swinging a popup. Garcia makes the catch and there’s one down now. The lineup for the Twins as constructed by Rockco Baldelli singing this righty heavy lineup is a bit unusual against a right-handed pitcher. Yeah, Boo certainly bucks the old conventional wisdom and I’m not sure I see the vision from the manager on this one. You’re not exactly putting your players in the best situation to succeed when you roll out a lineup like this. Maybe they’ve seen something on video that tells them there’s a weakness to exploit. Perhaps that’s it. And first offering is fouled off. This is a batter who clearly performs better in day games. I don’t know why, but his numbers generally back it up. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Next offering is down low. Going to count one and two. Really good take, especially with two strikes. In the air, pretty deep out to center field. Young snags it for the second out. Two outs, space is empty. Willie Castro, the next twin up to hit. This one popped up middle of the infield. Abrams makes the grab and that’s the inning. Twins are set down. One, two, three. Scoreless after one. Back at target field. Top of the second. Now at the plate. Nathaniel Low. Nathaniel. Come on. First offering and it just misses. Eric Summerskill with home plate duty in this one. Kind of known for being generous with the corners, Chris. You know, I think that used to be a lot bigger deal in past eras where pitchers were working more in and out with their pitches. But yeah, we’ll see if those corners come into play in this one. Hey, no pitcher’s gonna argue at all. Makes the catch. One down. That swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well. I know it didn’t produce a hit, but he made solid contact. And that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate. Alex Call digging in for the Nationals in there for strike one. All one’s the count. Swinging a foul straight back. No score here in the second. And the pitch just misses with that one. Was good pitch there. two strike. Billy had some run and finished a little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. One down, base is empty. That misses the zone. Now two and two. This guy’s a fun guy to watch taken at bat. He just battles up there. He doesn’t take a pitch off at all. Makes it so difficult on the pitchers out there. You can tell they get frustrated with how long it takes to put him away. Just misses the mark outside the zone. And a foul ball. He stays alive. Grinding AB right here. about to see pitch number 10 outside and that is ball four and that’s their first base runner of the game. When you go that deep into an at bat, the hitter usually comes out on top. Up now for Washington, Brady House. That is upstairs for ball one. just missed. Call the base runner at first with one out. That’s a bullet, but it goes foul. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside and ball four, two aboard. So here we go again with the walks. It’s been a real struggle finding the zone for him in the past. Now even if they get out of this gym, these walks add pressure and stress to the entire team. And now it’s Luis Garcia. And that’s through there for a strike 0 and one. Runners at first and second with one gone. Ground ball right side could be two in plenty of time to first. Awesome play there. Well, there’s a lot writing on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. And it’s the catcher for the Nationals, Drew Millis. Basketball for a strike. base hit. One run is in. Throw in holds that trail runner at third base. They’re at the corners with two away. That ball was absolutely ripped. 111 off the bat and I’m pretty sure it started to whistle after it left the bat. I think I heard that too, Boo. And these are the moments we appreciate when we can look at Statcast and just see exactly what the data is. Always so much fun to see what numbers pop up. Next to hit, Jacob Young and that’s a base hit. In to score is the runner from third and it’s an RBI single and they take a two-run lead. Backto-back base hits that pretty much split the zone down the middle and those are the ones where you got to make them pay. Here’s CJ Abrams to hit. He was a strikeout victim his first time. That’s way outside. And that’s ball one. And another ball. Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. Traffic on the bases with two already in to score here in the top of the second. Swings and blasts one deep to left center. This one could be trouble. One run is in. rounds third headed for the plate. He’ll score. Two runs are in. Well, they call that an advantage count for a reason. You’re so much more likely to get something you can handle. Man, that feels so good to shoot an absolute bolt the opposite way. Split the gap and know that you’ve got extra bases right off the bat. That’s the kind of thing hitters dream about when they’re falling asleep at night. So, runner at second, two down. And now here is James Wood. Late swing, fouled to the left. Well, a really rough inning out there on the mound. And uh this is one of those where you learn a lot about a guy’s toughness and his ability to turn the page and keep pressing forward. Next offering is in for a strike. And that one is inside. Ball one. Runner at second. Two down. Hit on the ground to short. Kareah throws to first and they’re happy to just get off the field after that frame. So they move out in front after a fourrun outburst. Now to the bottom of the second. It’s the Nationals four and the Twins nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Bottom half of inning number two. Here’s the veteran shortstop. Carlos Koreah. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. One and0. Counts. One and0. and that skips in the dirt. The guy at the plate could recognize slider out of the hand. Didn’t stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception. He knew right away it was an off speed pitch. That one spoiled and the count now two and one. Looked like he got a little excited on that fast ball. Got to think to yourself, I want to stay up the middle. That way, if you’re a little bit early, you hit it out of the ballpark. If you’re a little late, opposite field not. Pitch misses. Three and two now. Good played appearance there. Able to take the walk and that’s how they get their first base runner of the game. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that walk. Koreah gets his lead at first. Nobody out. The swing and a soft liner and it gets down. Base hit. throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. Well, that’s one of those knocks where you almost expect to get some jabs from your teammates when you get back to the dugout. He clearly didn’t catch that one on the big part of the bat. Just kind of muscled it out there and you know on the mound it can be pretty frustrating for a pitcher, but you just kind of have to expect those to drop in there sometimes. Matt Walmer stands in now and watches strike one. and one. That one pushed to the left and fouled. Swing it a miss. Struck him out. Couldn’t catch up to the heater. Just overmatched on that fast right there. And it wasn’t like he was set up for it by something off speed earlier in the at just came right after him with three straight and he had no answer for it. Here’s Royce Lewis. That one finds the zone. It’s 0 and one. just off the inside edge. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Oh, that slider was way out of the zone. And for me, it just comes down to not seeing the pitch out of the hand, not tracking it into the zone. And then also being a little bit anxious, not confident in your two strike approach. And so when a guy’s in that position, you get him to commit early and a lot of times you get the swing and miss as you did right there. Two on, two outs. Just missed. One and one. The one-1 is fouled off. Two aboard, two outs. And that is a good eye on a pitch down low and it’s two and two. Good spot there, but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone. Let’s go on the ground to first. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Twin strand a pair. They’re down four nothing. Top half of the third inning. And now it’s Ahmed Rosario. Woods Richardson back to work that misses. Ball one. There’s a strike. Next offering is fouled back. That’s to third. Lewis sends it across to first and one away in the top of the third. Here’s Nathaniel Low. He’s 0 for one. hit pretty well in the air out to center. Buckton makes the catch. Two away. Two down, base is empty. Now it’s the right fielder, Alex Call. The walk and a run scored his first time. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. And that is ball one. Just missing off the plate there according to the umpire and out there on the mound. Maybe trying to get an explanation. Can’t say he’s convinced, but it looks like he’s accepted it. Lined into left center and that should be extra bases. Now he’ll turn for second. He’s there. It’s a two out double. Everything came together for him. Great hands on that swing to take the inside pitch and drive it into the gap for the double. Easy to spin off a pitch like that, Boo, and can pull that thing foul, but that was perfect. Brady House digging in for the Nationals. He walked and came around to score his first time up. Blind into right. Base hit coming home. He’ll score easily. It’s an RBI single. It’s 5 nothing. Well, clearly he was ready to hit right there. Put a pretty good jolt into that one. Great swing. Nice balance and weight transfer. and he got it to drop in out there in the deep part of the field. Next to hit for the Nats, Luis Garcia grounded out his first time up. Closed but called a ball. Ball one. Ball one. No strike. That one is upstairs. Next offering misses ball three. I got three and0 clearly taking all the way there in that three-0 count. It was a cookie right down the middle. Two outs and a swing and a line drive into a right field and that’ll do it. But they pick up one run on the RBI single and the lead is now 5 nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show as we go to the last of the third. And now it’s Christian Vasquez. And a foul ball. That’s inside. And there’s a foul ball. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going and there’s a ball. Swings and misses. Struck him out. He had him out in front, which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this, known for using the entire field. Just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one. Back to the leadoff spot in the Twins lineup. Now it’s the power speed combo. Byron Buckton. That one ripped left field and that’s going to bang against the wall around first heading for two into second and he’s got it doubled. What if they’re looking to be aggressive and got something he could handle? He absolutely ripped that ball out front and almost got it out of here, man. Just a really strong balanced swing and a fraction of an inch different on the bat. And it is probably out of here. One out, runner at second. And next for Minnesota, Brian Jeffers. Buckton back in there. That one’s upstairs. Paul one, one out, and a runner at second here in the last half of the third. Now to short, Abrams over to first. Two away. This is Willie Castro. First time up was a pop out. swing and a miss and it’s 0 and one. The key to his success is getting ahead early in the count. He cannot afford to go deep in the counts. Doesn’t have a ton of swing and miss stuff. So, he’s going to have to work efficiently. Strike two. Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good. And then by the time he gets in the hitting zone, hard to get the barrel to it. Down to the dirt. Swing and a miss in time. So, the drop strike doesn’t hurt him. And that’s that. Twins wind up stranding one. Still looking at that five nothing deficit. Welcome back. And now on the mound to start the fourth, Zebie Matthews. Well, he’s struggled quite a bit. So, this is another opportunity to get on the right track. He’s given up more than one hit per any pitch so far this season. And first offering is fouled off. Matthews goes 6′ 5 in. He features a fourseam fast ball, a slider, a cutter, a change up, and he occasionally uses a curve. No ball, two strikes. swings through that and it’s a strike out and one out now. So up next, Jacob Young RBI single his last time up. He swings and fouls one off. one. One out. Base is empty. Close but called a ball. And it’s two and one. One strike in the air out to center. Buckton sprinting after it. brings it in with a nice running and grab. That’s out number two. So, the Nets lineup turns over. There’s CJ Abrams now. In there and it’s 0 and one. Really good cutter that he’s able to front door and back door. That pitch is devastating. And a fast ball misses outside for a ball. And now it’s even one and one on the ground and it goes just foul. Two down, nobody on. Top half of inning number four. Swings through it and that’s a strikeout and the Nationals gone in order as they are unable to add to their five nothing lead. Ready to go. Bottom four now. The Minnesota cleanup hitter Carlos Kareah into left center for a base hit. Solo runner aboard to start the inning. Didn’t take long to get a result for that at bat. And man, I’ll tell you, a line drive like that into the gap just feels so good. It’s feedback that you had everything on time and in control from start to finish with your swing. At the plate, Ty France on the corner for a strike. Koreah on at first. Nobody out. It’s just been an impressive outing so far. Continues to pound the zone pitch after pitch and he’s been able to stay down. That’s what’s been key. Twins. And that one missing low. One ball, two strikes to count. Got him swinging. Matt Walmer, the next twin up to hit. Struck out swinging his first time. That one finds the corner. Strike one. That’s in there. Well, he didn’t like those first two pitches. Now in an 02 hole. He’s going to have to battle. Hope he gets a mistake. Man at first. One away. Swing and a miss. And he got him. So he picks up his sixth strike out of the ball game. Well, interesting. He’s looking very comfortable out of the stretch after giving up the leadoff single. Back-to-back strikeouts. So, they haven’t been able to move that runner up, get him into scoring position and try to have a better chance of scoring. I tell you, good job so far on the mound. He just needs one more out. And first off is fouled off. Yeah, big swing and a miss. Ahead 02 in the count. Sure, you got four pitches you can work with, but throw something you can command and get this at bat over with as quickly as possible. ball. That’s in fans. Another and that’s three straight strikeouts. So, no runs here on a base hit, no errors and one left. Onto the top of the fifth we go. It’s the Nationals five and the Twins nothing. And we’re back. Top five, John Shami with Chris Singleton. And leading it off, James Wood, Minnesota. and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Chris Paddock warming up for manager Roco Baldelli. Hit hard but foul off to the left. The O2 hacks and misses. It’s a strike out. Wow. Short work to send to Packin to start the inning. And no messing around either. All three pitches were in the strike zone. Attack mode all the way. And that’s pretty impressive given the pop he was dealing with at the plate. Rousario in the box now as he leaves that one up high. delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Base is empty, one away. And we’re at the top of the fifth. Outside low and a C. Two and one. Two. fouled off and they’ll do it again. One down, base is empty. Countful and down on strikes. He’s notched four strikeouts now. Nathaniel Low up to hit. Both for two in this one. that catches the corner. Back door him with a breaking ball. Just got the corner. There’s nothing you can really do with that. Here’s a high-fly ball out to center. Buckton makes the grab and that is that we head to the bottom of the fifth. So here’s Bader now. line to left. Wood makes the catch and a quick out number one. Number eight, Christian. Here’s Christian Vasquez. Foul ball there. The Nets leading by five. Last half of inning number five. Not even close there at one and one. The one is fouled off and the next pitch is way outside. Oh, and he hit him. He had two strikes on him and he hit him. So, the lineup flips over. Here’s a big power threat. Byron Buckton, one for two. He is quite an athlete. I mean, you look around the other sports, basketball, football, you feel like he could thrive in one of those sports, too. First pitch and that’s in for a strike. Good approach right there. You want to get something just a little higher that you can elevate. Stay out of that double play and a foul ball. Vasquez over at first with one away. Breaking ball in there. Got him looking. That’s his eighth strike out of the game. Boo. He was shopping at the buckle right there. The way that slider made him look, that was just nasty. Brian Jeffers at the plate. And that one way outside. And that’s ball one. Hit hard on the ground to short. They take the force out. That’s the inning. One left for Minnesota. It’s 5 nothing. back in Minnesota. And now the right fielder, Alex Call. Matthews back to work way high. Activity in the bullpen. Justin Topa warming up for manager Roco Baldelli. Basevich warming up as well. That’s a little bit low. Two and0. That one finds the zone. Two and one now. Nasty two- slider there for a strike. That tells you he’s got a lot of confidence in that pitch. swings and misses and out two and two. Billy change up right there. Just pulled the string outside low and it’s three and two. That one misses. So lead off walk. Oh, looking for a swing and miss right there or for the ump to help him out and make a call with that last pitch, but neither happened. Close pitch, but a good take to earn that walk. So, a man at first and now up for Washington. Brady House. The walk and he’s also singled. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. And that’s a little high. line drive. Bader makes the grab. One away. Now it’s the second baseman, Luis Garcia. Luis Garcia. That’s a strike on one. Grounder might be two. Kareah tossed to second and it’s a double play to end the inning. So they make short work of them there. Part of the order 345 coming up. It’s the Nationals five and the Twins nothing. Back in target field, here’s the second baseman, Willie Castro. And that one off the outside edge. And that one clips the corner. Swinging a foul out of play. He swings and hits a fly ball center field. Young hauls it in and there’s one away. The batter number four. Here’s Carlos Koreah. First pitch swinging. It really looks like these hitters have been in between with their timing today. Good fast ball, excellent slider, but they’ve not been able to commit to one velocity and stay there. Ball to strike the pitch. Yeah, the shorts stop takes a ball. Fly ball down the line. Call on his way over. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. Two down. And the batter now Ty France right through there for a strike. Two outs. Base is empty. Foul ball still 0 and two and that one hit to first. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. So another good inning for him on the mound. Six shutout innings now. It’s the Nationals five and the Twins nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Top of inning number seven. And now the switch inning catcher Drew Millis in the first pitch. Misses for ball one. Ball one. No strikes. And that’s a base hit. And they have their first hit since the third inning. Nice line drive to the pull side right there. But he didn’t spin off of it. That’s the key. You still have to extend through the baseball in order to hit a line drive like that. Man at first, nobody out. Jacob Young digging in for the Nationals. Off the mark there. One and0. Counts. One and0. hit on the ground. Might be two. One at second. Throw to first, but he beat it. Well, an aggressive slide at second base, but it was legal. I like it because you’re trying to break up the double play and it looked like the slide impacted the throw a little bit. Nice job by the base runner. Here’s the shortstop at the play. CJ Abrams. First pitch misses. 10. There’s the strike. I got one ball, one strike. Ripped to right. He makes the grab. It is two down. Now a chance for James Wood 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. First pitch and he just misses. Well, if he’s going to steal second, you want him to go early in the count. That way, he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate. Go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch. Young off of first with two away. And that’s downed away. We got two balls, one strike. Next pitch misses. Now three and one. So now two on and two outs. His ability to draw walks has been something that’s been part of his career since day one. First and second, two outs. And here’s the DH for Washington. Ahmed Rousario. That one fouled off way out front for strike two. Well, you got the hitter already chasing that nasty slider. If you’re on the mound, you just want to expand the zone right now. Get a swing and miss and get through this at bat. A little bit low. First and second, two down on the ground right side. France, he takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. So, the Knacks leave a pair, but they hold a five nothing lead. set for the last half of the seventh. Now it’s the right fielder Matt Walmer. Timing issues can snowball quickly and that’s what we’re witnessing here. This lineup’s inability to lock on to the pitcher’s delivery is causing a few awkward swings. Swinging a foul back that’s out of play. And that one fouled off. Misses one and two count. That one called just inside, I think. And on the mound, he’s trying to get a little bit of an explanation. Doesn’t seem to be too bothered by it, though. But he clearly thought it clipped the corner. outside and it’s two and two. And that’s downstairs and outside in the air left field down the line and that’ll get down for a hit. Had a good start to the inning. A late jump and I think that was the difference on the play. Boo. It’s not always easy seeing the ball off the bat. Something to improve. Third baseman manager out of the dugout now and he’ll make a move to dip into the nationals pen. Mike Sroka gives way. Great effort out of him as he exits in line for the win. We’ll tell you about the new pitcher when we get back. Now on the mound for the Nationals, Jake Irvin. And you know, bullpen guys can struggle sometimes when they’re called upon with big leads because it just doesn’t have the same intensity as a tight game. So, we’ll see how sharp he is. Your mental toughness matters in situations like this as well. Stepping in, Royce Lewis, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. If you’re going to get something going, this is the time to do it. You get the leadoff man on. Everybody’s got to look over the shoulder and say, “I’m just gonna keep the line moving.” Don’t try to do too much. And now it’s even up. And that clips the inside corner. Nobody out. Runner at first. Pitch misses there. Two and two. Yeah, that’s too high. Foul ball and it remains a full count. Ninth pitch of the at bat do next. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. stays alive. Runs it up to 96 to record the punch out. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. Slapped hard the other way but foul. Irvin a 66 righty. He features a four seam fast, a slur, a sinker, a cutter and he works in a change up. Activity in the Washington bullpen. Luis Garcia up and loosening in the pen. Parker the lefty warming up as well. That’s a laser base hit. They fired in quickly. So, it’s first and second with only one away. So, here’s Christian Vasquez. Inside corner for a strike, man. I mean, nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was. Just missed. That one not close. And it’s two in one. It’s a big opportunity right here. But I love the way he’s slowing the game down. He’s shrinking his zone, making sure he gets the pitch that he wants to hit. The two-1 upstairs. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count and they’re all loaded up. number 25. So bases loaded with one away. Here’s Byron Buckston, one for three. Pretty amazing athlete this guy is. Power and speed. Quite a threat. I mean, you’re talking about someone that could steal your bag and go deep. Bo Jackson, anyone? That one misses. That’s five straight. He’s like Mike Trout. You figure whatever you put in his hand, whether it’s a bat, whether it’s a golf club, whether it’s a basketball, he can do it and get it done. And a rare talent. So much fun to watch. All loaded up. Dangerous hitter at the plate. Fast ball on the inside corner for a strike. And that misses. And that’s ball two. If you’re on the mound right now, you know you have to retire this hitter. If he gets on base, it could open up the floodgates for this offense to score some runs. And now two and two. Bell and those hitters count. Sometimes can be a little too aggressive and a good pitcher will play off of that. He’s got to get a better pitch to hit. Next offering is downstairs. Walmer the runner at third. Bader at second. Vasquez at first. One gone. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. 3-2 now. Ball four. He’s walked in a run. He’s really gotten himself into a mess out there and now forces home a run with the wall. This inning’s definitely getting away from him. So, bases all loaded up and now it’s going to be Ryan Jeffers 0 for three in this one. Ripped on a line. He’s got it. Runner tagging from third. He’s in to score the sack fly. It’s 52. That wasn’t your standard sack fly. He barreled that baseball. Just couldn’t get it to drop in. And now it’s the switch inning second baseman Willie Castro and fouled off. Tying run at the plate. Swing and a miss. 0 and two now. And two. And a good eye there. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. Oh, can’t pick it up completely to second and he’s in. Oh, things that lead to big innings other than hits or home runs are of course walks and errors, free base runners, and they’ve been gifted with both so far this inning. And that will make any manager in the dugout just stew a little bit. And I’m sure he is right now. Here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen. Jake Irvin won’t go any further and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. On pitch now for the Nationals, Jose a Ferrer. And if you dig into his walk rate, his numbers are really impressive. He’s really filled up the strike zone this season, so these batters better be ready to swing the bats. Two outs, bases full. Well, now here’s Carlos Kare with a chance to hit. This is what stat nerds like myself might call a high leverage situation. Yeah, Poo. Not sure what the numbers say, but clearly an at bat that could change the course of this game dramatically. up the middle. Abrams, they get the force. Inning over and it could have been worse. Two runs in the inning, but they strand three. Eighth inning coming up. It’s the Nationals five and the Twins two. Welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Justin Topa. pretty tight game. So, they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. And now the first baseman, Nathaniel Low 0 for three with three flyyous. Oh, and that liner got him. Fires to first on the run. Got him. Nice play. One pitch, one out. And now the hustle out to check on him. That was quite a shot he took as you see him down on the knee. Yeah, clearly in some real pain, but he will not want to come out of this game if he doesn’t have to. It’s looking to me like he’s going to try to shake it off and continue. And now the right fielder, Alex Call. That breaking ball drops in for a strike. Well, that’s really the money spot down and away. If you can locate that consistently, it’s going to be real tough for hitters to square that up. That’s what you love to see relievers do coming out of that bullpen. Strike two. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Anthony Mvich, the left-hander up and throwing. Paddock getting loose as well. Base is empty, one away. And we’re in the top of the eighth. And a swing and a miss at the slider in the dirt. Vasquez gathers, throws, and it beats him for out number two. That’s a strike out. Oh, that slider wasn’t even close to the strike zone and he got him to chase. That’s just a bad approach right there. Either he was looking for something else and got completely fooled or he was sitting all over the slider and just couldn’t resist the temptation. But man, really expanded right there and didn’t have a chance of making contact with that pitch. Chopped to third. Lewis tosses to first. That’s the third out. Nationals go quietly and it remains 52. And we’re back onto the bottom of the eighth. And here’s the first baseman, Ty France. Got to keep things airtight defensively right here. On your toes, ready to make a play. If you can get this to the ninth with a three-run lead, it should be a W. And another ball right now behind in the count. Two balls and no strikes. No free passes. You can’t allow that. That’s too low. Three and O. And there’s the automatic pick at bat right here. He did the team thing. Took until he got a strike. Now he’s got to go to work. Shorten up that swing a little bit. Do whatever it takes to get on base. Next offering is in for a strike. Three and two. Got him. And that’s one away as the leadoff man is out in the eighth. Well, just couldn’t pull the trigger on the fast right there. And I don’t think he was taking it, thinking it might be a cold ball or anything. I just think he was flat out frozen. Did not expect that location in my opinion. Walner stands in here, leaves that one off the inside. Lefty continues to work, but the closer getting loose in the bullpen. That missed by a lot and it’s 2 and 0 and it’s fouled away and that’s off the outside edge. They’re now three and one. swing going to ground their foul first base side. The Nationals leading by three here the bottom half of the eighth inning. Hanging in there pretty good against the lefty. Slow roller to first. They get the tag on him and that’s the second out. Now batting third base. Royce Lewis now at the plate. 0 for three with three strikeouts. Bottom of the zone and a called strike. quickly into an 02 count. Both pitches were down in the zone. I think you set your sights a little bit higher because you’ll have a tendency to chase if you look down in that area. Tosses to first and the Twins go one, two, three. No runs, no hits, no errors. Ninth inning coming up. It’s the Nationals five and the Twins two. New pitcher now, Anthony Mvich. This is his fifth appearance of the year. Up now for Washington, Luis Garcia. That misses. And that’s ball one. 10. Right through there for a strike. Hit in the air left field and that’ll fall for a base hit. And now the catcher comes up to hit Drew Millis. Roll to short. Could be two. Takes it to the bag. That’s one. Throw to first. Safe. Oh, we talk about how the ball is coming out of the pitcher’s hand. The way it comes out of his hand as an infielder. Wow. Really impressive. Next to hit for the Nats, Jacob Young singing. You got to appreciate a guy who’s this good defensively. I mean watching him track balls in the outfield it is beautiful. That will close rule the ball and that is ball one. Just missed. He’s so solid. Calms the heart rate of the pitcher and the manager when the ball goes up in the air. You just automatically assume that it’s an out every time it’s hit in the air. That one’s spoiled and the count now two and one in there at the knees. There’s one guy that I can think about bird who started as a third baseman, Alex Gordon, and then became an elite runner on the go. Pitches low. Throw to second. Good save. And a payoff pitch right through there. Got him. And now two gone. No, you got to be ready to swing the bat with a runner in scoring position and two strikes. Just put the ball in place somewhere and you got a chance. Very frustrating for him, I’m sure. See if the next guy can pick him up. tapped out in front of the plate to first save and runners at the corners after the infield single. It’s good hustle and we’re talking about an emerging leader on a team. Those are the things that are going to be necessary for him to do to set that example, you know, game in, game out. So, two outs with runners on the corners. And now up for Washington. Jameswood. That clips the corner. One’s the count. And that’s in there at the knees. Perhaps not quite ready to hit. First two pitches by him for a couple of strikes. Now back is against the wall. Going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly. Lefty out of the stretch. Runners at first and third. And now maybe extra bases. One run across coming home. Now a relay to the plate. He’ll score. Two runs are in and the lead is up to five. Gets the job done as he brings home a pair. He got that front foot down and pitch recognition was on point. Pretty impressive for an 02 count. Here comes the manager out of the Twins dugout and he will make a move to the pen. Anthony Masevich out of the game and he’s responsible for the runner on second, so the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. A new arm into the game, the righty Chris Paddock. He’s averaging more than one hit allowed per inning pitch this season, and that’s not where you want to be at all. So, we’ll see how he does here. So, runner at second, two down. And now Ahmed Rousario 0 for four with three ground outs and a strikeout. And that’s in for a strike 0 and one. That one missed. Outside low. Two balls in a strike. Two balls, one strike in the air to left down the line. And that’s the third out. But they’ll pick up a couple runs here. Both coming on this two-run double. It’s 72. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Back now as they hand the ball to a fresh arm to start the bottom of the ninth. Mitchell Parker. And he’s got a nice lead to work with so he should come in throwing strikes, attacking these hitters. And now Bader up to the plate. The left Harrison ball there. Next pitch in for a strike. And the count one and one strike. And that’s fouled off. fights it off. You’ll see another hit in the air out to center field and there’s one down. The catcher number eight, Christian. Christian Vasquez. The hitter. Pitch misses. Ball one. Fought off. Foul. 1-1 now. Late that time and it’s strike two. Man, he was really tardy on that fast ball. Great job of setting him up by throwing the curve ball. Add some velocity to it on the next pitch. Can’t catch up. And that just misses. One down, base is empty. And they’ll do it again. Spoils a two strike pitch. And he’ll see another that’s out to center field. Young under it, hauls it in for the out. And there are two outs. Number 25. The Twins down to their final out. And here’s the Twins leadoff guy, Byron Buckton. He’s a guy who does it all. There’s the strike. This one popped up. Foul ground first base side. And that’s a foul ball. Two down, nobody on. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. and ball one. Two strikes. Parker is just one strike away. And that’s downstairs. Two and two. Sends it to center and that’s going to do it. That’s the ball game. Sometimes it takes just getting away from home. Players can sort of come together, connect a little bit more than they do when they’re at home with their families and that can breed to success on the field as we saw in this game today. Excellent win by this team. 72 your final here today for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami. We’ll see you soon.
