MLB LIVE🔴 Seattle Mariners vs Los Angeles Angels – Jul 27, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

Alongside Chris Singleton, I’m John Shami. The first half of the All-Star break is behind us and partner, it’s go time in the second half. And if you want to be playing meaningful games at the end of September, you got to put your head down and grind for the next eight weeks. It’s the Seattle Mariners and the Los Angeles Angels. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. Just about set to go now. And towing the slab here, Jake Eer. Well, he’s been a very dependable starter for his club. And what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him. And it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball. Maybe it’s the release point, maybe it’s the motion, but just some way, somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side. Ready to go. JP Crawford gets a chance to hit and that misses. And we’re off and running from Anaheim. First pitch 107. Next offering is in for a strike. [Applause] dives, but it kicks off his glove. No throw and they don’t get the out. Seems like he got exactly what he was looking for right there. That’s one of those you classify as just too hot to handle. Hit it on the screws and it couldn’t be fielded cleanly, but you can’t really blame the defense in that case. And that skips in the dirt. The Mariners knew what they had. Signed him in July of 2017 for a little under $2 million when Rodriguez was just 16. Crawford goes swing and a miss. Throw to second. He’s safe. [Music] [Music] [Applause] swing and a tapper that rolls foul. Fast forward to 2022 for Julio Rodriguez to win the Rookie of the Year. The Seattle Mariners were then compensated with the 29th overall pick in the first round of the draft in 2023. Part of the new CBA enticing teams to promote their good young players. Crawford at second with nobody out. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And Chris, that’s a way to neutralize his speed by keeping him off base. And the defense breathes a sigh of relief because he puts pressure on everyone if he can put the ball in play. But that’s how you do it. Keep him off balance, get him out of there, and deal with the next guy. Now it’s Randy Rosarena. 0 and one. [Music] [Applause] Tap foul at the plate. Punch him out. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. He had him out in front, which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this. Known for using the entire field. Just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one. The batter now, Jorge Palano. The switch hitter batting right. Pitch is in there. And that is strike one. All one’s the count [Music] and he chases a high fast there. Brother at second. Two down. One ball in the dirt but kept close to third. Tag got him. They don’t come much closer than that. Bang bang play to end the inning. M’s nothing. Angels coming up. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Back here at Angel Stadium getting the nod in this one. Luis Castillo and Singi. We were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. I’ve just been so impressed with when it seems like there’s more pressure, he’s more calm and settles in. He’s done an incredible job with runners in scoring position. Most guys, they get a little tight, they start to aim the baseball, but for some reason he gets looser, the ball comes out of his hand with more life, and he’s able to wiggle off the hook of, you know, tough situations and get his team back in the dugout. Right-hander kicks, steals, grounds one to short. Going up, one down. Batting second. All right, let’s take a look at the Angels lineup. The home run, a big part of the equation when it comes to this offense, singing, they’re one of the better clubs in the league in terms of putting runs up via the homer. Yeah. And that makes them even more dangerous because they’re going to get their hits, but they’re also going to get those home runs and have runners on base, which is multiple runs out of one swing. So, yeah, you really have to try to manage a team like this and keep them contained. You can’t give up extra outs, whether that be via an error or a walk. Nolan Shanowell batting with one down, takes a strike. He swings and fouls one off. and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Here’s the O2. And there’s a ball. See if you can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading the count one two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt. Line drive caught. Nothing you can do about those as a hitter. Even though you know that they still drive you absolutely crazy. And now batting Mike Trout, he is quite an athlete. I mean, you look around the other sports, basketball, football, you feel like he could thrive in one of those sports, too. And the first offering is not close. Foul ball. Two out. Space is empty. So a foul ball makes it one and two. [Music] Swag and a miss. Struck him out. Angels retired. One, two, three. Angels go quietly there. We played an inning. No score. Back in Anaheim. New inning getting started. Now it’s the Mariners DH. Jorge Palano. Eer 26 years old and they traded for him earlier this year. Eer back to work. Fast for a strike. [Applause] Slow roller to first. He steps on the bag. Leadoff man retired here in the second. Good late life on that inside fast ball. Ran in on the hands and got that weak contact. Little slow grounder to get the out. And here’s the first baseman, Luke. He’s someone that you might not describe as having elite level speed, but he can absolutely move and it is a factor in his game. Very high with that one. Ball one. Boo. This guy’s definitely a plus runner. But what I love about him is that he goes all out every single time. Never takes a break. It’s guys like that. Even though they don’t have the elite speed, the fact that they’re consistent with it, they make moves on the base paths. And another ball, three balls, no strikes. And there’s the automatic. Clearly taking all the way there in that three-0 count. It was a cookie right down the middle. Swings and misses. And we’re filled up. I think he was sitting off speed there. [Applause] checks his swing. Appeal down to third and yes he did. Jill McDonald rings him up. This guy will throw any pitch in any count. 32. He goes off speed gets the out. Two down. Base is empty. And now Mitch Garver and that one wrapped foul. Next pitch misses way outside. No score here in the second. [Music] And now two balls in a strike. got the bat going too soon at strike two [Music] and a swing and miss. Swings and misses at the breaking ball in the dirt. Catcher has it. Fires to first and it’s in time for the third out. So that’ll end the inning. Nothing across here this half. Down now to the bottom of the second. We’re tied nothing. No nothing. We head to the bottom of the second and now Taylor Ward. Chris has been a good year for him having already set a new careerh high for RBI’s in a season. Let’s go to the plate. It’s 0 and one. Well, we call that keyhole. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. And that’s downstairs and outside. Fights that one away. Still one and two. Next offering is outside. Spoils the two strike pitch and he’ll see another hit hard on the ground to the right side and it goes just foul. That one ripped left field. Bangs off the wall. Everything came together perfectly for him right there. Fast ball pretty much middle middle and that’s what you fall asleep dreaming about as a hitter. So no surprise he put a great swing on it. Here’s Joe Adele. Yeah, the pitch is in for a strike. Going one. Nobody out. Runner at first. And that’s downstairs. And the count is one and one. Carl Dixon doing the umpiring behind the plate. And Boo, I’m not sure if it’s because he sort of sets up higher than most, but one thing to be aware of with Dixon is the high strike. Not usually a big deal because most players are swinging at pitches up there, but we may see some surprise looks from hitters from time to time because that’s just so unusual. The kick and the pitch runner goes. Here’s a swing and a drive left field and he knew it. They must be going crazy in the dugout. His 22nd homer of the year. The Angels on the board first. It’s two nothing. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. Knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spent on some other pitches in this at bat. was very patient and it paid off. [Applause] Jorge Soler up at the plate [Applause] and a foul ball. [Applause] That one fouled off. Going two now. And ball one. Two strike. Fouls it off. Still one and two. Had a good eye there. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Two strikes. Base hit. Just kind of sliced that one into center. Stringing them together. That’s three hits in a row. That pretty much split the zone down the middle. And those are the ones where you got to make them pay. Travis Darno digs in [Applause] the bit behind with that swing. It’s strike one. Oh, and one. Solair gets his lead at first with nobody out. And he gets that fast ball by him upstairs. really consistent release point. He’s been able to pitch up and down and have excellent command in both locations. Check swing of the O2 appeal to first. No swing. Eric Summerskill with the call. Hacks and misses. It’s a strike out. Usually when you see several pitches, you’re going to get at least one that you might be able to do something with, but they didn’t exactly challenge him in any way right there. And really, they just used his aggressiveness against him. I don’t think he even got a pitch in the zone. No, that’s a good point, Sigy. He goes down on strikes, but not a single pitch was actually in the strike zone. Luis Renifo gets a chance to hit here. Swinging a foul out of play. [Music] [Applause] Foul ball there. [Applause] 0 and2 now. fouled off and they’ll do it again. [Applause] The O2 and a foul ball. He stays alive [Applause] and La Pedro picks up the K. Batting ninth. Here comes Chris Taylor. Chris Taylor. [Applause] And that one just misses a ball and no strikes. Two runs across in the inning. Bottom half of inning number two. [Music] In there for a strike at the top of the zone. So a foul ball makes it one and two. [Music] Two outs in the air right field and that’s a fair ball. And now they’ll have runners on the corners with two away. Up next for the Angels, the shorts stop, Zack Netto. And now the shorts stop. Zack Neto grounded out to short in his first trip. That’s off the inside corner. And that is ball one. still in the second already at 44 pitches. So, some concern there and that one is lifted in the air. Rodriguez on the move to the alley. He’s there. He’s got it. And that’ll do it. But two come across to score in the inning courtesy of this two-run homer. And it’s two zip. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. All set for the start of the inning. And here is Dominic Kenzone. Well, after scoring runs, this is where you’re looking for that shutdown inning. Get that hot team back in there to swing the bats. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Well, the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there, have a real quick inning, get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot. In the air, left field down the line and that drops foul. [Music] little chopper rolls foul and that’s where his swing. It’s a strike out. Really love the pitch sequence right there. I’m telling you what, pitcher and catcher on the same page right now. Good. So digging in Ben Williamson that misses the zone and it’s one and0. One down. Base is empty. That one finds the zone and it’s one and one. [Applause] swing and a miss. He was late. Strike two. One ball, two strikes. Make it four strikeouts in a row. Just cruising along. [Applause] Cole Young up next for the Mariners. That clips the corner. There’s the strike of the knees with two now. He’s gotten into a really good rhythm. Set down seven in a row. He just wants to get the baseball and deliver it as quickly as possible. Keep the momentum going. got him swinging for the strike out and he strikes out the side for the second time today. And one, two, three Golden Mariners. They trail it here two nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark as we go to the last of the third. And now the first baseman, Nolan Showell. This one in the air Crawford makes the catch and there’s one gone. Now batting designated hitter Mike Trout. Here’s Trout. Struck out swinging his first time. Great speed and great power. A great athlete quite simply. Now a screamer into the outfield. Kenzone makes the grab for the second out. He was all over that fast right there. I tell you what, if he gets under it just by a fraction of an inch or a little bit more, that’s way back. Two outs, space is empty. And next for the Angels, Taylor Ward singled and scored his first time. In there at the knees, strike one. Man, this guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today. That one’s in there. No balls, two strikes. When you have a real athletic player and who’s able to do the baseball mechanical things really well, look out because the sky’s is the limit on that potential. And a swing and a miss. And it’s a three up, three down inning. And the Angels are gone in order. They’re up two nothing. out of the fourth and stepping in for the Mariners, JP Crawford. Come on. Here we go. Close but called a ball. Ball one. Well, these Mariners just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. So many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches. They’re chasing outside of the strike zone. You can’t do much of anything with those locations. And that’s been true again today. That one missing inside. And as a pitcher, when the hitters are swinging at everything, you feel no need to challenge inside the zone. You just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond. And they just keep eating right out of your hand. Fouls one away. And now three and two. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] That one misses. So, a lead off walk that could jump start an offense that’s really struggled to score in this one. Don’t want to wake a team up with the free pass. Rodriguez. And now it’s Julio Rodriguez for one. He struck out swinging last time. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Swing and a foul back. That’s out of play. Runner at first with no outs here. [Applause] Outside low. Yeah, the count one and two. 02 count. You got the opportunity to expand the zone. Could get the chase there. Let’s see what he comes back with next. swings and misses on the fast up in the zone for the strike out. Now batting left fieldielder now the left fielder Randy Rosarena struck out swinging his first time. [Applause] Runner on the move. Swinging a ground ball towards first, but fouled. The old one to the left side, but it is well fouled. Little early on that fast ball. I’m sure the pitcher taking a note. Look for an off speed pitch on this next one. Gets a piece and stays alive. Crawford leads off first with one away. And that’s off the inside edge. Now one and two. Strike him out. Hammered on a line to the left. Base hit. And they have their first hit since the first inning. And the throw’s offline. Safe at third. Good two strike hitting right there, Boo. A bit of a lost start for some. So that was nicely done to beat the odds. Just a solid swing right there. Caught it out front and ripped it into the outfield for the base hit. Those always feel great. Runners at the corners here. One away. Jorge Palano the next to hit. Basketball is outside. [Music] [Applause] Next offering in there for a strike. One ball, one strike. Generally, second, third time through the lineup, you want to be able to lean on those secondary pitches and command them. Looks like he’s doing a nice job of it. [Applause] Lefty out of the stretch. Runners at first and third. Squirts away a little bit to second and he’s out. I appreciate wanting to move up there, but that ball didn’t get very far away and getting thrown out as a result. Sometimes you can be too aggressive on the bases. to third. Taylor throws across the diamond and Palano is out. And he has thrown four shut out innings. One hit, one left. And midway in the fourth, Angels two and the Mariners nothing. And we’re back. John Chavei and Chris Singleton with you. And leading off the bottom of the fourth, Joe Adell. One more time. Come on. Climb the ladder with that fast ball. Four and one. You know, these Angels showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. They’re doing a good job of working the pitch count and they’ve been able to push a couple of runs across to score as well. Still relatively early, but with a pair of runs already on the board, the ripple effect of that high pitch count might set him up to do more damage later in this game. Foul ball still 0 and two. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. try to go again with a fast ball slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. Just misses the mark outside the zone. [Applause] Swing and a ground ball and that one gets through into center field. He saw a lot of pitches in that if at that and found a way to win the battle. Boo. I don’t think that pitch would have been called a strike, but he did such a nice job of pulling his hands tight to the body and just getting enough of the barrel on it to be hard enough back up the middle for a knock. Man at first and next for LA. Jorge Solair on the ground to the left and that’s just foul. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] drilled out towards left center field. That’s well struck and that one hops the wall headed for the plate. He’ll score. Back to back base hits. Got a good pitch to drive. Stayed short with his bat path to the ball and caught it out front and he stayed long in his follow through. That’s how you split the gap and that’s pretty much a double every time. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Next to hit, Travis Dardo. First pitch just misses. One on, nobody out. A run in. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. And that one fouled off. [Applause] Swing and a ball popped in the air and that’ll fall for a base hit. Coming home. Here’s the throw to the plate. He will score and they lead by four. So a man at first. So in for the Angels. Luis Rangifo. He’s 0 for one inside. One and0. runner takes off twig and a miss. Throw to second and he’s out. Not a fast runner on the base path. So, this kind of looks like it was a hit and run call from the dugout. Got to make contact some way or somehow because that guy’s not going to be able to steal second base and be safe. [Applause] Still only one out here in the inning. And ring him up, says Carl Dixon. That’s a strike out. Here comes Chris Taylor. One for one with a single so far. Sing, you talk about a guy that has all the skills. The range is really good, but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays. That’s in there. Strike one. And because of that big power arm, he’s able to play a little bit deeper, make throws from the outfield grass all the way across the diamond and still get a pretty good runner. That’s impressive. Stays alive. Swing on an 02. Appeal to first and he went around. Not an easy call there, but that puts an end to the inning. So, two runs, three hits, no errors, no one left. Onto the top of the fifth we go. Angels four and the Mariners nothing. Back here at Angel Stadium, we go to the top of the fifth. And now for Seattle, Luke. 30 years old now and he was drafted in the seventh round back in 2016. First pitch and he just misses. Well, these Mariners as this game goes on have to be more disciplined at the plate. They’ve been chasing pitches outside the zone all game and it’s led to some frustrating moments. They’ve been fooled quite a bit today. Neto. [Applause] He makes the grab and there’s one down. Now batting. I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. Garver batting for the second time and that’s strike one. [Applause] He’s been going after these guys consistently and as a result he’s been able to keep his pitch count low. Throwing the ball very well right now. Swing and a miss and that’s strike two. One out. Base is empty. [Applause] And he swings and lifts one to deep center field. Adele moving back on it. Pulls it in on the warning trap. Now, right, Dominic. So, up next, Dominic Canzone. [Applause] knee high. That’s in for a strike. It’s just been an impressive outing so far. Continues to pound the zone pitch after pitch and he’s been able to stay down. That’s what’s been key. Swing and a miss. Oh, this offense has just been locked down almost five full innings of shutout baseball. That one misses in the dirt. Two strike. just misses with that one. Well, he hasn’t gotten the result yet, but it’s got to feel pretty confident. Three foul balls in a row. He’s right on this guy. Missed with a change up. Three and two now. Wow. This guy’s really battling up there as if his run is the game-winning run. I love his tenacity. in the air, left field, down the line, and that’s a foul ball. Oh, he’s desperately looking for that swing and miss. He’s going to have to just change speeds a little bit, try to move it around, create just a little bit of illusion at the end upstairs. And that is ball four. That’s a great at bat. He saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk. Oh, very close with the location right there. It’s just tough to get rewarded on the call with pitches near the top of the strike zone. Runner at first with two away. Now the third baseman, Ben Williamson. And that is out of play. Kenzone off of first with two away. Just missed. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. And that’ll fall for a base hit. And now to a board. Here’s the second baseman, Cole Young. He struck out swinging at his first at bat. Fast ball for a strike. 0 and one. [Music] [Applause] And a bat like this is almost over as it begins. In this situation, you have no idea what the next pitch is going to be. You just got to hope that you can make contact. Two on, two outs. Swing and a highf fly ball in the air left field. Ward makes the grab and that is that. Mariners leave a couple. They’re on the short end of a four nothing score. now pitching back now to start the bottom of the fifth and taking over on the mound. Ryan Woo still pretty early in the ball game. So this bullpen has some work ahead of him. Best case scenario might be if he can come in here and get several quick outs kind of bridge the gap that starter left for and leading off. So the lineup flips over now it’s the short stop. Zack Neto for two in this one. Angels up and in. And that’s ball one. You know, these Angels putting together some really good at bats in this game. There’s been a lot to like with how they’re approaching their chances at the plate. It looked to me like they really wanted to get to the starter early, get him out of the game before he settles in. So, I’d say mission accomplished. Next pitch is downstairs. [Applause] And that’s outside. [Music] This one high in the air to left center. Drops into the glove and there’s one down. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He’s saved extra bases for sure. If the pitcher his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. Ground ball up the middle. Young throw to first in time. Up next for the Angels designated hitter. Two down, base is empty. Mike Trout will hit next. Swings through that one. Some activity in the Mariners bullpen. Matt Brash, the hardthrowing righty is up and loosening. Number 32, also getting ready. hammers that one deep left field and forget it. His second home run of the series and they tap one on the board. It’s five zip. Two pitches, two swings. That one for a home run. Looking to be aggressive all the way and it paid off for him in a big way. Well, Boon, clearly some frustration out there on the mound right now. I mean, that ball was so close to going foul. Would have been a long strike, but instead batter gets rewarded. Did a nice job of getting to the pitch and hitting it hard enough to get over the fence. And here is Taylor Ward at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. Two down, base is empty, but one run across. Last half of inning number five. And that is downstairs. And it’s one and one. [Applause] Gets the outside corner with that one. swing and a miss for the strike out. Blew the express right by his bat for strike three. But the Angels add to the lead on this solo blast and the lead is now 5 nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. Now pitching. We’re back and they make a change to start the six. No, the new pitcher number 39. Well, he’s a big time strikeout guy out there this season, averaging more than one per inning. Here’s the Mariners leadoff man, JP Crawford. JP Crawford and first offering is fouled off. fast for a strike. Well, that’s really the money spot down and away. If you can locate that consistently, it’s going to be real tough for hitters to square that up. That’s what you love to see relievers do coming out of that bullpen. Swings and misses. Struck him out. You know, Boo, you often think of sliders more for that horizontal movement, but most of the good ones have both vertical depth and that horizontal movement, and that’s what we saw right there. Good drop on the break and got him to swing over the top. Julio Rodriguez getting ready to hit. Rodriguez having a lot more success on the road this season. Come on, let’s go. Got it started a little too early. Strike one. There’s a certain point where you have to commit to what you think you see. And he guessed wrong right there. Nasty slider with just terrific bite at the end. And that misses and it’s a ball and a strike. The Halos leading by five. And we’re the top half of the sixth. Pop foul out of play off to the right. [Music] [Applause] And a ball evens a count. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Coming out of the bullpen and throwing BBs. Chance to strike out the side. Now, you talk about the benefits, the advantages of relievers who can come in and get the swing and miss, whether it’s inherited runners or maybe a little jam that they get into themselves, knowing that they can miss the bat. Tell you what, that’s huge and can change the ball game. Rosarena in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. Swing and a miss and it’s nothing at two. But you got the hitter already chasing that nasty slider. If you’re on the mound, you just want to expand the zone right now. Get a swing and miss and get through this at bat. Fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts. Nothing doing for the offense that time. We go to the bottom half of inning number six and the 567 slots do up. Angels five and the Mariners nothing. Bottom of the sixth inning. Here’s a big power threat. Joe Adele taken high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level and first offering is fouled off. comes up empty. That’s strike two. Action in the bullpen for Seattle. Matt Brash getting loose out there. Number 32, a left-hander also throwing. Swang and a ball lifted in the air. That one gets down for a hit. So, runner aboard to start the inning. still able to come through behind in the count right there. You know what they say, he couldn’t have thrown it out there any better than that and certainly the case that time. Just flared it back behind the second baseman and dropped it in there. At the plate, Jorge Solair. There’s the strike. [Music] Adele gets his lead at first. Nobody out. And it’s fouled away. Base hit. Throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. Well, that certainly feels good when you can win the at bat after being down in the count up against it with two strikes right there. Everything was on time and fluid in that swing. Got a pitch he could get the barrel on and lined it into center for the knock. Those always feel good. And now it’s Travis Darno with the plate. There’s the strike. [Music] [Applause] Gets under and pops it up. And the infield fly is called. Now batting second baseman Luis Reano. [Music] And next for the Angels, Luis Reanifo, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. Lifted in the air right field. Kenzone should have this one. He makes the catch and there’s two down. Chris Taylor now one for two. Chris Taylor. [Music] score. And the first pitch misses for ball one. That’s a good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it. He had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Runners on first and third. Two away here in the bottom of the six. Lifted in the air out to left. A Rosarena. He’s got it. And that’s the third out. Two left on. We’re through six full. Angels five and the Mariners nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Top of inning number seven. And now it’s the cleanup hitter for the Mariners, Jorge Palanco. Pitch misses and that’s ball one. Counts one and0. [Applause] And there’s a foul ball. And that one popped in the air left field. Ward makes the catch and there’s one away. Now batting first base Luke up next for the Mariners. Let’s go. That one off the mark and that is ball one. That clips a corner. One and one. [Applause] [Music] swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Now batting catcher Mitch Garver. Mitch Garver up to hit here. Fast ball for a strike. [Music] [Applause] two here. And that is cut on and miss. 0 and two man at first. One away. Swings through that one. It’s a strike out and he’ll be beating himself up on the way back to the dugout. Got a pitch to hit and just couldn’t get to it. I think that slider really caught way more of the plate than it was supposed to. Dominic Canzone up next for the Mariners. He is struck out and he is walked. Ball one, no strike. Now, if he’s going to steal second, you want him to go early in the count. That way he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate. Go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch. And that one pulled foul. And now the count one and two after the swing and the miss [Music] [Applause] popped up foul territory behind a play. Darnell makes the grab and that is that. Mariners leave one. It’s 5 nothing. [Music] Bottom of the seventh. Now it’s the Angels lead off man, Zack Neto. Zack Neto. Woo! Back to work. Just missed. outside and that’s ball two. That one to first. Makes a sliding stop. Fires to first and very nicely done for the out. We saw a few skills on display there for the out. Technique was great. reaction time was there and the slide was smooth. Watching that play come together was really fun. And now here is Nolan Shanowell 0 for three in this one. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. One down, base is empty. Swag a popup foul out of play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands. [Music] O, that one went straight back and got her ump right in the mask. Let’s hope he’s okay. This one in the air. Williamson brings it in and there’s two away. Up next for the Angels designated here’s Mike Tra. He’s already homerred in this game. That’s in there. That’s strike one. There’s the swing and a miss. Well, that’s today’s style of baseball right there. Right. Big time VO on the bump and big time pop at the plate. Ball one there. I would say the game’s close right now, but it’s not out of reach either. I mean, these pitchers really need to put up a zero on the board just to maintain a little hope. That misses the zone. Two balls, two strikes. And a swing and a miss. And that’s that. Angels held in check as they are unable to add to their five nothing lead. Now pitching for Sam Bachman comes on now. And you know bullpin guys can struggle sometimes when they’re called upon with big leads because it just doesn’t have the same intensity as a tight game. So, we’ll see how sharp he is. Your mental toughness matters in situations like this as well. So, digging in, Ben Williams, Bachmann, a righty that throws with power. He features a slider, a two seamer, and he works in a change up. Misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. And that one lifted in the air center field. Needto makes the grab. One away. That’s a really nice play ranging back into the outfield for that catch. We all know those can be a little tricky, especially if the wind swirling around out there. And up next for Seattle, Cole Young. And a first pitch fast is in for a strike. Action in the Angels bullpen. Jose Soraniano, the right-handed sinker baller. He looks to be readying himself. Brogden getting loose as well. One down. Base is empty. Swing and a miss as he chases that one darting out of the zone. That one missed. O2 fast way out of the zone. I think he’s trying to speed him up. Got to stay back. Off speed’s probably coming center field. Adele moves under it, corrals it. And there’s two down. Now batting. Two out. Space is empty. JP Crawford now at the plate. That’s outside. Ball one. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the eighth. Next offering is fouled back. This guy’s seen two change ups in a row. Could be a little vulnerable for a fast ball right here. That’s in there. in a count one and two on the ground to third. The throw to first and the inning is over. Three up, three down for him there. Home half of inning number eight. Straight ahead. Angels five and the Mariners nothing. [Applause] Back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Matt Brash. And we all know about his slider. It’s just filthy, man. And one of the better ones in the game, I’d say. Spin rate’s very high and it just breaks a ton. Taylor Ward digs in now. One for three. Taylor one. That’s in there. That’s strike one. All the count. back up the Oh, that got him on the run. Sends it over to first in time. Got him. Now batting and now they’ll hustle out to check on him. That was quite a shot he took as you see him down on the knee. Yeah, clearly in some real pain, but he will not want to come out of this game if he doesn’t have to. It’s looking to me like he’s going to try to shake it off and continue. Joe Adele the next to hit for the Angels. He’s already homerred here in this one. No matter what, when you’re playing this kind of rival, take your game to another level. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Some activity in the Mariners bullpen. Edward Bazardo appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves. This would be his major league debut. That’s down and in. Base is empty, one away here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. And that one cutting but missing down low. No strike. And he walked him on four pitches. You know, I think he’s okay with that outcome. It wasn’t an intentional walk, but he wasn’t exactly trying to attack the zone either. And next for LA, Jorge Solair, three for three with two singles and a double. Swing and a highf fly ball left field. Rosarena moving under it. makes the catch for the out and there are two outs. As good as he’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand, you cannot hang a breaking ball right there. Lucky it stayed in the ballpark. Darno, Travis Darno will come up to hit. [Applause] Foul ball. That’s inside. He never moved cuz he never had time to. But that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. Catcher tosses the mask, settles under it, and he makes the catch. And that is that. No runs, no hits, no errors, and one left on base through eight full. Angels five and the Mariners nothing. Now pitching for Welcome back. And here comes the closer, Kennley Jansen. And he’s been really shutting down hitters from the right side of the plate this year. Not a lot of hard contact, not a lot of hits, period. And now it’s going to be Julio Rodriguez 0 for three with three strikeouts. [Applause] That misses one and0. right through there for a strike. In this situation, you expect the batters to be a little more patient, possibly take until they get a strike. With that, you don’t want to miss your opportunity to get ahead early in the count. He didn’t right there. Just missed. You got two balls, one strike. [Applause] The 2-1 and that’s downed away. [Music] [Applause] [Applause] fights it off. He’ll see another [Applause] foul ball and it remains a full cow. [Applause] got him looking and he did not like the call. I guarantee he’s going to check the tape on that last pitch when he gets a chance because he thought it was four and he wasn’t wrong. It was a close pitch. Definitely not an easy call, but especially after a long at bat, that’ll drive you crazy getting rung up like that. Randy or Rosarena will hit next. [Applause] And that’s in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. [Applause] just missed. The Angels leading by five here in the top of the ninth. [Applause] So, a foul ball makes it one and two. [Applause] And that’s in the dirt. Two strikes. [Music] [Applause] Got him looking. And they’re down to their last out. Well, he’s going to have some thinking to do when he leaves the ballpark after this war. That was his third strike out and this one looking obviously. So he’s been a little overmatched. He’s got to find a way just to be more competitive up there at the plate. So last chance for the Mariners. Jorge Palano up next for the Mariners. [Applause] There’s the strike. [Music] [Applause] on the ground right side and foul ball [Music] [Applause] Jansen is just one strike away. One ball. Almost got him. [Music] [Applause] Pull inside. Three and two. [Applause] Jansen fires. That’s a good at bat right there. He was down early in that plate appearance. Works the walk. Very close off the outside corner. could have easily been called a strike in that location. Lukeley up next for the Mariners. [Applause] [Applause] Whacked out to center field. That’s well struck. That one carrying. That’s long gone. He made him pay for that one. Home run number five on the season. And they throw a pair on the board. It’s 52. They needed that one, Singy. Indeed they did. They’ve been fighting to get back into this game. And just like that, they’re back in it. With a low 90s fast, you have to live on the edges and hit your spots. If you don’t, you’ll get hit hard. Really good swing there. Patient, waited for it. It was like BP all over again. Now, the Angels manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pan. Kenley Jansen is done. It’s a three-run game and we’ll be back to tell you about the new arm in a minute. Now, pitching for and we’ve got ourselves a pitching change. Well, he’s been a really tough guy to take deep this season. You usually have to string some hits together in order to get to them. And stepping in for the Mariners, Mitch Garver 0 for three with two strikeouts and a fly out. And first offering is fouled off. [Applause] Swinging a liner foul off to the right right through there. Got it. And that is the ball game. Peter with his first major league win. Yeah, nicely done. I’m sure he’ll feel very good about that and get the ball for his trophy case as he should. A start he won’t ever forget. And your final score 52 for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami. We’ll see you soon. Heat. Heat.
