Minnesota Twins lose series to Washington Nationals as MLB trade deadline nears
[Music] It’s the Score North Twin Show. [Music] All right, Scor Twin Show live from Target Field. Twins just wrapped things up against the Washington Nationals. They dropped the series to a pretty badnat team. Uh they lose today by a final of 7-2. Twins are now five games out or five games back of being 500. They are still looking up at the MLB standings right now. At the time of this recording, they’re 10 games back in the Central and of course in the wild card race which is also very crowded. They are now six games back and obviously the MLB trade deadline is looming. So little bit we won’t get into too much of of what necessarily happened today uh against the Nationals uh but we will give you a little bit of update on what is being reported and what’s being out there from the latest trade deadline rumors. So uh if you like this type of content hit the like button and subscribe button. My name is Declan Gooff. I cover the Twins at the majority of home games and a podcast roll here on the YouTube channel and for our Scorn Twin Show audio feed. So, uh, if you want the latest updates on the trade deadline, which July 31st, coming up here in a few days, if you want the latest updates on the Twins roster, news, prospects, plenty of stuff, this is a very busy week and it’s one of my favorite weeks, but uh, but also do cover the team in in a lot of different aspects, too. So, if you’re looking for Minnesota Twins content, this is your place. My name is Dean Goth scoring our Twin Show. Appreciate you guys supporting it. So, uh, bullpen game today. Twins had to use Cole Sans, Danny Kulum, uh Travis Adams really kind of had to wear it there uh to bridge the nine innings. Of course, you know, they don’t want to have to burn some of the relievers, but at the same time, uh showing Duran in the ninth inning, down five runs, kind of a weird spot to be, especially after he just pitched on Friday. Now, I don’t know. Are you doing that to showcase him? I don’t know. I I can tell you that there were plenty of scouts here uh this weekend, including the Yankees, the Padres’s, the Phillies, the Mariners, um and some other teams as well. Uh so, I don’t know. I mean, I I find it weird. Some guys will eventually just have to pitch. I understand that. That’s why you saw Travis Adams basically having to wear this one. Um where he just goes three and a third and allows couple walks, five hits, gets charged with five earned runs. RA sitting at almost nine on the season. Uh but to show Duran there down five runs in a meaningless game because at first I thought like oh has he not pitched well he pitched on Friday uh to close out the only series win they got in this three-game set against Washington. Uh so that’s very interesting. Um I don’t know I I didn’t like confirm that. Wasn’t wasn’t necessarily uh told that. Just kind of trying to read between the tea leaves there of why that took place. Uh but the trade deadline’s obviously coming up here and Duran and Jax are going to be a couple names that probably some teams are obviously asking about uh before now. The Boston Red Sox are coming to town for uh for three games starting tomorrow too. I believe TBA still on the Twins starting pitcher uh for that game. By the way, a little bit of um update here from Rockco Beli on Byron Buckton. So he was taken out of yesterday’s game. He had that amazing catch against the wall but came in pretty hard. Um he has he’s daytoday I believe with some cartilage irritation in his rib. So Rock called it a good outcome. They’ll see where he’s at tomorrow physically if he can go if he can’t go. Um but Buckston who was held out of the starting lineup today uh is now listed at day today and the team views it as at least positive news for now. Uh but yeah, we’re inching closer. July 31st is the trade deadline and Twins continue to drop series and distance themselves. um it makes it pretty hard to keep the band together and especially some of the rental players and Harrison Bader after the game today who’s one of the names that is definitely getting some interest from other teams uh basically said that he just takes it as a professional and prepares every day and you know of course these are times to showcase things and show how good you can be but you know without trying to completely rip the you know rip the team apart with with trades like this it becomes tough acknowledges the same thing that um look He’s obviously managing on how do I beat this team today? That’s obviously the first goal and then from from there on out of it’s it’s just natural to be distracted if you’re a player by the trade deadline. But they have to focus on those type of things. However, I mean guys like Bader and Danny Kulum uh who are rental players. Same with Chris Paddock, Willie Castro. Um those are going to be guys that obviously are going to get some calls on here uh between now and the deadline and we’ll see what the Twins end up doing. you know, we’ve already seen some trades go down. Ryan McMahon went to the Yankees. Josh Naylor goes to Seattle. So, we we’re starting to see some trades already trickle in. Um, and we’ll see what obviously happens we get closer. You know, I I don’t I guess if um guys like Danny Kulum, I bet he might I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s traded before Thursday. That’s just a guess of mine. mostly because um if you’re trying to get the most out of Jackson Duran, uh you’re going to want to create as much interest and bidding through the deadline clock. So guys like Koulum, you kind of know what his services is. He did allow a run today, but like you they’re not going to be able to really drive up that price for just the individual piece that is Danny Kulum. Uh but it’s going to be interesting to see what they elect to do. Um going to be really curious here. So, here’s some uh quotes and just some of the latest stuff I’ve gathered uh from around the internet, some baseball insiders. I should start with this quote, too, from from Joe Ryan, who got roughed up yesterday, one of the rare starts where he obviously wasn’t pitching up to his standards, but when asked about the deadline, Joe said, “As far as the trade goes, I don’t see it happening. At the same time, it’s completely out of my hands. I know we have a good opportunity years forward to do something here. So, I would like to stay, but like I said, it’s out of my control. I think I lean um with some other people that are a little bit more plugged in and also even though he’s his name has come up, I think the majority of the reports on the Joe Ryan trade deadline, you know, fodder is the Twins would have to be blown away. they they might listen on some offers, but they would have to overpay the the trading team where to to get someone like Joe Ryan. And then if you’re the Twins, can you extend him in in the offseason? And and if Joe is open to that, which you know, and this is just a quote and it’s to the media so everyone can see it and hear it and dissect it. um you know if he indeed does like it here and and would like and be open to a contract extension which I do think they should consider this wintertime uh because if you do move on from Joe Ryan whether that being at the trade deadline or at some point in the offseason up going into 26 I think you’re entering you know you’re entering a full full-blown reo a fullblown rebuild so um yeah we’ll we’ll see what happens there with Joe but he does acknowledge obviously the trade deadline uh and how that affects things. I saw this one uh from I believe it’s Chris Kersner. He’s the Yankees reporter for the Athletics. Sorry Chris if I butchered your last name. My name is Declan and people butcher it all the time so join the club. Uh he’s reported in the Athletic over the weekend that a few names have emerged in conversations with major league sources uh from the Yankee side of things including Minnesota’s trio of Duran, Jax, and Culum. And at this point, the Twins have been hesitant about moving Durant and Jax, who are under club control through 27. And the cost to land both uh one or both will obviously be high. So Yankees have made, you know, some moves here. They they get Ryan McMahon. I don’t know if that takes them out of the Willie Castro um decisions. Uh again, I think Willie is a really good fit there. Also could be a good fit with Houston, who is looking for some better defense at second base and left field. Will he can obviously play both those positions. Um, and the Yankees I believe also I think Bob Nightingale reported and I have some other notes uh from Bob here uh coming up that uh they are open to trading Spencer Jones who’s their number one prospect. Now uh uh I would be probably shocked if the Yankees floated Jones in like a Durant and Jax trade. Like for starters that would be that that would that would have to be what goes out. But I I still think that’s probably they’re not they’re probably reluctant to do something like that for their number one prospect. But that might be what the Twins are coming back to saying if you really want these two guys, we’ll give them both, but take us uh give us Spencer Jones who’s the Yankees best prospect, too. Um so that’s really interesting. Part of this is the bullpen arms typically do get a lot of interest as we get closer and closer to the deadline. Um and yeah, I bet that price is high. Uh speaking of Bob, uh he said teams believe uh that the best relievers traded at the deadline will be Duran of the Twins, David Bednar of the Pirates, and Ryan Helley of the Cardinals. So those are three names that are probably going to be the top bullpen arms available if they are traded. Again, maybe that’s why Durant pitched today. Like I I don’t know. I I found that so interesting that uh I know some guys just have to get the three outs to bridge yourself to the win. However, down five runs like and him already pitching on Friday, like is Duran now unavailable to pitch tomorrow? Um, it’s a very interesting spot to be in. Uh, Bob going on to also say that the Dodgers are also looking to upgrade their outfield uh with Michael Conforto season long struggles. Now, Conforto had another huge blunder uh in the field today. I think he also had a massive tank. So, they’re kind of trying to figure out where where where they want to upgrade, but also completely still wanting to have Conorto involved. Uh, but Bob went on to say that the Dodgers have expressed interest in Twins outfielder Harrison Bader and Cardinals utility man Brendan Donovan. Yeah, I mean, Bader would probably be a very good fit there uh with the Dodgers. So, that one definitely does not surprise me. Um, yeah, I I I bet that the Dodgers would definitely and the Twins have done business with the Dodgers before. uh the Brian Doer trade, the Bruised Dark Rider roll trade. Uh the Dozer trade didn’t really amount uh to too much. Obviously, Twins got a decent all there. Um at least a decent year of Kenta Mietta, who was the runner up in Sai Young. Um they originally wanted Brock Stewart back in that trade. They ended up getting him without having to to deal with that. But um yeah, the Twins and Dodgers have obviously done business before. LA a big market. Um kind of in a weird position here. Yeah, Bader would probably fit in there very very well. He’s been traded at the deadline before. He’s got some postseason experience and some big-time postseason moments and numbers. So, yeah, the Dodgers having interested in him uh could be could be one. Speaking of that, too, I don’t think I discussed this. I tweeted it out uh I think on Wednesday or Thursday because MLB Network threw it around and and I believe he’s he’s been floated from people and Dustin May, the uh the starting pitcher for the Dodgers who has a ton of injuries uh at the peak of his powers when he first came up was just kind of this electric flamethrower. Since then, since he’s kind of dealt with a bunch of different injuries, this year he he is healthy, but certainly not as effective um as he maybe once was when he first came out of the league and kind of took it by storm there. He was pitching in big playoff games. He helped the Dodgers win a World Series in 2020. This year, uh, Dustin May, 6 and six, an RA of 4.73. The fifth, his field independent pitching suggests he’s also kind of in line there on his RA plus, I know I’m throwing a lot of numbers at people, RA plus being 100 being average, is 86. So, it’s 14 percentage points lower than league average. He has been a below league average pitcher and he’s also entering a walk year. Uh, so if you’re the twins, do you want to take a chance on someone like May who’s a known commodity and maybe you can fix him? Maybe you can get him also on the cheap. Uh, extend him and give your rotation a little bit of life beyond 2026. The only reason I also think there could be a fit here is Dustin May does throw a ton of sweepers. This pitching staff uh, loves guys that throw sweepers. So that wouldn’t surprise me. Maybe instead of getting a prospect back, if like you were to trade Bader, do you just do a swap? Now, the Dodgers need as much pitching as they can. They do have guys that are coming back from the injured list. That’s why someone like Dustin May could be uh floated or involved in a trade, but again, just if you don’t want to take the prospect risk, which I understand why you don’t, uh could Dustin May instead be the one you want to focus on? I don’t know. I I think I probably would lean Dustin May, but uh you know that’s why Faly and Jeremy Z get to have those conversations. I just get to make up trade ideas sometimes like I do here on the Scorn Hard Twin Show. So that’s for them to to figure out. So we’ll see what happens there. A few other things here um on the Scorn Twin Show. And again, hit the like button, subscribe button. Thank you guys uh for listening out of 100 people watching. Um and if you’re consuming this uh afterwards when it’s not live, uh appreciate you guys. drop a comment on your thoughts on the trade deadline or what you want to see the twins do here in the coming days. Yeah, so Luke Keshaw uh has been on a lengthy rehab assignment. Same with Bailey over who I’ll talk to here in um just a bit. Uh so Luke Kishaw should likely be probably coming back to the Twins here pretty pretty soon. Um he was able to finally get into the field for the first time uh which was big. So he’s been on a long rehab assignments. uh wouldn’t be surprised if he is activated for the Red Sox series starting tomorrow. Um now who comes out of the lineup that’s or who goes down I really should say to St. Paul and is that Brooks Lee? It definitely could be. Um you know he’s he’s struggled at the plate a lot in the month of July. I really liked what he showed leading up to this month but he’s he’s just been struggling. Um so I wonder if that’s the case uh that if Keshaw does indeed come back to the active roster tomorrow. Uh does Brooks Lee go down? I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Uh but Keshaw getting close to returning after missing almost now uh couple well almost three months. Three months right with a broken forearm. So it’s been a long time. Bailey Ober made his um made his uh I think final rehab start too um for the St. Paul Saints. So he should be good to go. He pitched on Friday. Uh Twins right now I believe their starter for tomorrow is TBD. Um they obviously David Fest is also had a big setback too. So kind of puts this team in in a tough spot um as well. So we’ll see what the Twins want to do. I think Sim actually is Sim is is the scheduled pitcher I think for tomorrow. So I think Simeon should get the ball to start on on Monday uh for the Twins. I believe Chris Paddock in line for Tuesday. And then as the Twins wrap things up uh in the finale against the Red Sox on Wednesday, that is TVD. So, um, maybe, oh, I think you can obvious deduct the math if Ober pitched on Friday for the Saints. Probably in line to return to the rotation to wrap things up against the Red Sox on that Wednesday. So, a little bit of some roster updates there, too. Again, if you missed the beginning of this, Byron Buckton dayto day um with some with some rib irritation, but they called it decent news, so that’s good. Uh, but all all good things here and exciting times, man. It’s a trade deadline. I love talking trade deadlines. I know some people will get weirded out by it. Uh but this is uh this is an exciting time. So if if you’re looking for the latest rumors, appreciate you guys supporting the show. We will have a state of the twins tomorrow too uh with Mackie Jetta for a vibe check. Favorite thing, least favorite thing to probably talk more about the deadline. We have Trevor Ploff, current twins broadcaster, plus um obviously he has some experience being a former big leader himself, so he can give some takes on that. So that should be really really exciting too. So Trevor will join us on Tuesday. Uh should be a should be a fun next couple of weeks here. I know the YouTube comments section um basically all saying kind of similar stuff of sell sell. Uh let’s see. Ryan says, “Let’s be honest, this team sucks.” Uh Don says that I should say. Uh and I feel bad for you, Dex. I mean, hey, dude, don’t feel bad for me. I I I know it watching bad baseball can obviously not be a fun time. Uh but I get to do this. I enjoy doing this. It’s why I do it. It’s not just because uh um I get to do something like this. I I truly enjoy getting to cover this team and give you guys information. That’s why I wanted to do this because I felt um the podcast space and the YouTube side of things was being underserved uh for Twins information and the latest stuff from the clubhouse. So, I still love doing this type of stuff. So, thank you um to everyone too for for supporting the show. Appreciate that. Um and Matteo says, “How is positive Phil going to be positive tomorrow?” Yeah, that’s that’s a good one. Um, you know, Phil was a little positive last week saying if if Royce Lewis was coming back, I think Royce was hitless for the first time in a week plus today. Um, but if if Royce Lewis is back and the and the wild card race is getting shorter and shorter, you know, should the Twins actually ride Royce Lewis and see if, you know, they can come back here and and join the party in the wild card mix six games out, I just I feel that’s going to be very hard to do. Um, so can you trade your rentals? And if you are going to trade the guys that have term like Duran Jax um maybe even Joe Ryan or like a Walner Lick um and gear up for 2026 that might be more logical. Uh Twins prospect pool is looking all right too. So yeah I mean William saying keep the team together tons of talent. Maybe Rockco and before Tommy Watkins should go. That’s another thing with uh the new owners too potentially coming in whenever that does happen. um you know they have to examine this type of stuff and they get to examine this with a fresh fresh face. Valve might be the one making those negotiations happen right now but once new owners come in they also like to have their own people in charge. So whether that is a new manager whether that’s a new GM all that type of stuff. Um those are problems to figure out down the road. We’re obviously looking at this from the twin side of the trade deadline. So um lot of fun and interesting conversations here uh to be had on the Scorn Twin show. So appreciate you guys. Hit that like button. Hit the subscribe button here on the Scorn Twin Show. My name is Dean Gooff and we’ll be talking to you tomorrow. State of the Twins episode with Mackie Jud and myself.

The Twins lost the series to the Rockies and Nationals which are the worst teams in baseball, there's nothing to be optimistic about here!
Lopez and Ober are in rehab and will be back shortly, watch how "the Fail-vey" uses this to do nothing at the trade deadline because "he believes in the core"
Pretty obvious to see some players are counting the minutes until they're out of here. Time to hit the phone, Falvey
How about A RESET top to bottom
Total system failure
Trade both Duran and Jax for high end prospects
PATHETIC
In my opinión deberían cambiar a: Duran Coloumbe Bader and Castro.
Nobody cares. Maybe, MAYBE, with a new owner.
It matters far less how many games they are back than how many teams they have to pass Somebody has to win when 2 teams play.
Baseball
Good morning Joe Pohlad
Has your Sphincter ever Blasted a Big Beautiful Fart inside the owner’s suite before
Wholesale trade time. Try to move Carlos Correa too.
Some one said it could be worse, we might still have Kepler who is hitting about .198 for the Phillies. Instead we have Wallner who is hitting a whopping .202.
Trade the entire team… From owner down to the towel boy… One of the worst teams I have ever seen…., and if it weren't for the World Series wins 3 decades ago, I would say worse than the Vikings.. Minnesota needs to dump both of these shit teams and shit owners. The twins haven't been relevant in over 28 years…, and their pitching hasn't improved anymore than their abillity to not swing a bitches so out of the zone that you would think they would swing at balls tossed to first and 3rd base..
With buck hurt probably has to be lee unless they wait until the deadline to get keashall up here but to me lee needs a reset hes struggling to hit any ball in the air it's all been groundouts right to guys although the recent series was better with a few hits and even got robbed of another the issue is all the hits are singles so really isn't very impactful when you only hitting them with nobody in scoring position twins need him to figure it out otherwise in the next year it will be Culpepper taking his place like he did to Julien such a disappointment top 10 pick but the twins love hit tool over power the risk is they end up a utility player like lee is be curious how quickly new fo moves on when the team is sold I mean will they really want want to keep him around if hes still struggling to hit 250 while being a negative defender hopefully Houston & Culpepper dont look as lost when they eventually get to the mlb although both are significantly better defender then lee ever was
Who would have ever thought that Ed Julien would now be hitting better than Royce Lewis or Brooks Lee?
Failvey is going to keep playing Lewis and Lee because they were number one draft picks no matter how tepid they hit and are suspect in the field.
Get Rushing from dodgers
Should have drafted RHP Gage Wood (no hitter in the College World Series) instead of the shortstop from Wake Forest. You can’t get rid of Correa until 2028 so that made no sense.
If there was any doubt before this weekend as to whether the twins should be sellers……..
they suck and national play the Astros who where swept the the A's
Just do something for the love of God. Get rid of this same old bullshit team
What did the Twins score 5 runs in three games? Not great pitching just poor hitting. There are no Twins that are consistent hitter on this team. They are all traceable. Maybe the owners can recoup some of that 400 million deficit.
It's time to trade Joe Ryan to the Chicago Cubs
Wallner hits homers when theres no one on base, he fades away when he sees runners on….
I admire you, Declan, for trying to keep the interest level up, but I think most fans just don't care anymore. Apathy is much worse than anger. Even assuming they make a couple of big trades, I just don't see anything moving the needle until we can get some ownership in here that actually cares and is willing to finally replace all the dead weight. It's a total organizational failure.
I actually get the vibe that people just don't care that much about baseball anymore
trade everybody on the roster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't let Falvey do anything! This guy should be gone and if I were the new owners getting close to a deal, I would tell him we will fix after we buy. And also after we FIRE your keister. This dummy extended Baldelli for 26. It should not have even been his call to make.
Think they should try and package a trade of one of their 3 studs with Correa, time to get out from contract.
Trade Falvey for literally any other human being
Rumor than Duran is headed to the Cubs for Owen Caissie their #1 prospect an outfielder tearing up AAA and a mid prospect. Hope it’s true.
It’s time to trade Larnach or Wallner to create an opening in the outfield.
Only 2 teams have allowed more runs than the Nats and they managed to score 6 runs in 3 games. 👏 👏 👏
I just want to ask, why does Phil think that this team can contend in 2026? Even if Pablo doesn’t get hurt this team would be lucky to be 500. Pablo isn’t worth more than 5 more wins. Can ask some serious questions? Is Buxton going to be as productive next year? Is Royce Lewis suddenly going to avoid injury problems and stretches of being ice cold at the plate? Is Correa going to live up to his contract? This core of players doesn’t have it. I think making the ALCS once a decade isn’t too big of an ask.
Hey Dex no big moves coming sorry to disappoint
I'd personally like to see Bader stay
Why are so many scared of a full blown rebuild?
