MLB LIVE🔴 New York Yankees vs Tampa Bay Rays – Jul 28, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

Hello and welcome. Thanks for joining us. The show has an AL East matchup. It’s the Tampa Bay Rays taking on the New York Yankees. And we’ll be back with the first pitch right after this. your new your just about set to go now and on the hill in this one Max free tell us about him in that sub3 erra singy well anytime you can keep your erra under three you’re doing a lot of things right and you’re putting your team in a position to in a lot of ball games as well and he’s doing tremendous out there on the mound. Every time he gets the ball, you expect him to go out there and dominate and that’s what he’s been to this point. We’ll see how he is today. Cut on and lifted in the air. Judge is there. Puts it away for the one down. Now a look at Kevin Cash’s lineup for the Tampa Bay Rays. A guy who’s been huge for them over the last month plus. Taylor Walls. Well, Boo, there aren’t many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does. I mean, batting over 400 with runners in scoring position. Are you kidding me? I I know it’s not guaranteed or an automatic, but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not. Yandi Diaz at the plate now. That’s ball one. Next pitch is outside. Right through there for a strike. Goodness. I think he just took the best pitch he’s going to see in this at bat. You don’t get many like that in that location. I don’t know if you take that pitch against any pitcher out there on the mound. a rope into right and that’s a base hit. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. You know, I was watching his rounds during batting practice today. So impressed with his ability to let the ball travel, go back up the middle and the other way. Sometimes when you step in the box during the game, you get a little anxious and you get away from that. But so far, I’ve seen him stay consistent with his pregame preparation. Jonathan Aranda batting with one down takes a strike. Freed a 6-4 lefty 190 lbs. He joined the team as a free agent. Come on double to first. Might be two. Devulpi at second for one. Return throw to first. Got him. Double play. And that’ll do it. One hit in the inning but nothing more than that. And now the Yankees will see what they can do. No score. Back now in the Bronx. And today’s starting pitcher, Taj Bradley. And Singi, we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. Well, no doubt about it. He’s going to have to put together some consistently good performances in order to bring that erra down. Now, he’s got good stuff. He’s just got to be able to have confidence, trust it, and really go after hitters, not nibble. Trust that his stuff can have late life and miss barrels of bats. Trent Gisham leading things off and takes a strike. Go and one. Next offer is downstairs. Round two. Swing and a miss. And he struck him out. And one out now. Well, he just had no answer for that hard inside fast right there. Just blew it by him. And not every pitcher likes working inside, especially with two strikes, they don’t want to hit a batter and waste an opportunity to put him away. But if you can locate that fast just like he did, most hitters aren’t looking for it, and it becomes very difficult to get a piece of. Here comes Cody Bellinger. And it’s fouled away. One out. Base is empty. That one down the line and that’s just foul. Breaking ball misses down and away. And that’s down and away. Really good take, especially with two strikes. One down, base is empty. And they’ll do it again. Count is full. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. Grinding AB right here. About to see pitch number 10. Fouls that off to the left. And we’ll do it again. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. That’s tough. You see it well. I mean, that was clearly up and out of the strike zone, but that’s one of the hardest things. But when you see a pitch out of the hand at eye level, that discipline to remember, I can’t hit that pitch. If I can see it really well at eye level, I can’t catch up to that pitch. When a pitcher’s got this kind of velocity, this one popped up. Foul ground first base side and that’s a foul ball. Looks really sharp at the start of this one. This is how it’s going to be today. It’s going to be a tough one for this lineup. And now he’s falling behind Judge. If you’re going to miss, you want to miss outside the zone. When you miss inside the zone, it’s trouble. And that’s too high. And there’s a foul ball. Three balls, two strikes to count to the right side. Sneaks through base head and that extends the inning. Not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play. That’s a team at bat right there. Nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep. Two outs, runner at first. Ben Rice stepping in now for the Yankees. Swing and a ball lifted left field. Diaz moves under it. And that is that one left for the Yankees. We played an inning. No score. Second inning set to go. And here is Junior Camroero. Junior Camero. Max Freed will go to work. Just missed. And another ball, our plate umpire, Earl Hris. Yeah, with Hendricks boo. Kind of interesting. He’s a good consistent umpire, but you do hear that he kind of favors one side of the plate more than the other. So, it’s really hard to know for sure, but I think that usually it has to do something with where he sets up prior to each pitch. upstairs. That one misses. So, a lead off walk. Well, he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Hitter didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. So, now the DH spot. Josh Low. Little chopper rolls foul. We talk so much about how starting pitchers prepare for their starts. I talked with Max Freed and one of the things he told me back in 19, he and Lucas Gelo started using MLB The Show to go over scouting reports. Squirts away a little bit. Camo gets his lead at first. Nobody out. miss him out and there’s one down. He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. Clearly, he had him. Jake Mangum now at the plate just off the outside edge and that is ball one. Let’s go. Ball low in the dirt but kept close and that is out of play. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Swing and a miss. It’s two and two. Two and two is the count. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Second inning here. No score. 22 now. That 95 to finish him off. Gets talked about a lot, but a good high fast ball in a two strike situation. It’s just become such a problem for hitters in more recent years with all of the emphasis by pitchers on developing that spin rate, having a good grip on the baseball. Those high fast balls, they kind of look like to the hitter that they’re rising even though they’re not, but they’re not decreasing in velocity and spin rate. So, very difficult to get the barrel on it. Bounced up the middle. Chisum third out that ends the frame. No runs, no base hits, no errors, and a runner left. We go to the bottom of inning number two. No score. Back at Yankee Stadium, here’s the second base, Jazz Chisum Jr. Chisum Jr. Bradley back to work. That one in the dirt. Ball one. One and0. That’s a strike across the top of the zone. One and one. Next offering is fouled back. Kicks and fires. bows it off. Still one and two. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Foul ball still a one and two count. Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. Pitch misses outside and the count is two and two. He goes down looking. Absolutely dotted the edge of the zone right there. That was a tough battle, man. So to make a really quality pitch and just catch him looking like that, it’s got to feel good out there on the mound. That was a fun at bat to watch. And next for New York, Jason Dominguez. Right through there for a strike. And that’s in there for a strike. And quickly nothing at two. All right. Now, he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire’s calls, but at this point, he’s going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone. That one missed. Popped in the air left side. Camero makes the catch for the out and there’s two down. Batting seven, the shorts stop. Anthony Vulpi. Anthony Vulpi digs in now. You talk about elite defensive players, especially in the middle of the diamond and this guy is at the top of the list. There’s the strike. Yeah, we go beyond just uh, you know, fielding percentage and, you know, what it looks like, but the ability to have a range and, you know, close holes that, you know, are normally there against an average defender. But this guy is special and you can see it in his first step quickness on the ground to short. Walls slings it across and the Yanks go quietly. One, two, three, go. The Yankees will move to the third with no score. Well, here we go. Top of the third scoreless game. Now it’s the shortstop. Taylor Walls the one thing about that is speed never goes in a slump and defense shouldn’t either. Hittingwise, you can struggle. You can lose your mechanics, but the thing that you can do consistently every single game is play great defense if you’re talented in that way. And this is what this guy does. Swing and a miss as he was out front. Oh, and lifted in the air right field. Judge balls it in and there’s one away. No, the second base is a Jose Caviierro next to hit for the Rays singing he’s never finished the season with more stolen bases in his entire career. There’s the strike. Next off in there for a strike and it’s 0 and two. I understand you want to try to gauge that guy’s fast ball, but you also have to be aggressive and ready to hit in your zone. Now you’re in a tough spot and swinging a miss. That pays his third of the game. So the batting order turns over. Here’s the Rays leadoff hitter fly to right his first time. in the air left field. Dominguez pulls it down and he makes the catch. And that is that home half of the third coming up. No score here at New Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Set for the bottom of the third. Here’s the Yankees catcher now, JC Escara. And the first pitch misses for ball one. That one lace to center and a base hit. So, a man on base to start the inning. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. He saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Now to third baseman, Oswalt PZA highf fly ball and that one curling foul down the right side. The one swing and a ball driven out to center going back. Feeling for the wall as he makes the catch. The center fielder number 12, Trent Gisham. Now it’s Trent Gisham to the plate. Struck out swinging his first time. And that one just misses a ball and no strikes. First from a guy that understands the strike zone. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. Quick throw back in. Lead runner holds it second with one gone. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. I know that was a ground ball, but it was absolutely hammered through the infield. That’s not one you’re excited to get in front of if you’re an infielder. You know, they used to say charge it crazy. Runner in scoring position now and a good opportunity to push across the first run of the ball game. First and second, one out. Cody Bellinger stepping in now for the Yankees. Just missed. One ball, no strikes. Pitch is in there and a count one and one. One ball, one strike. Popped up and the infield fly is called. Infield fly. The right fielder number 99, Aaron Judge. Now it’s Aaron Judge up to the plate. One for one with a single so far. Fast ball for a strike. That was just paint on the first pitch fast. And that one fouled off. Two on, two outs, fights that one away, and the count remains 0 and two. Judge waits, swings through it, and that’s a strike out. Well, this guy competes hard. We see the emotion there. I love it. Great job of getting out of the jam. Back in New York out of the fourth now. The number two hitter, Yandi Diaz. Diaz in his seventh season, 33 years old, and he was born in Cuba. And there’s the strike. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. The next offering misses and it’s two and two. Missed inside with the curb. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked. Foul ball and it remains a full cow. Strike him out. hit hard. Base hit. He saw a lot of pitches in that at bat and found a way to win the battle. Nice and bad right there. Not just the result, but also seen a lot of pitches. Made him really work out there on the mound. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. Didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep. Took the barrel right to it. and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. Aranda the next to hit takes high for ball one and that one fouled off. Little early on that fast ball. I’m sure the pitcher taking a note. Look for an off speed pitch on this next one. The lefty ready and a 1-1 in the air left field down the line. Dives, but it’s off his glove. Throw back in quickly. First and second, now with nobody out. Well, I’m not saying that play was easy, but it was harder than it needed to be thanks to the bad jump. Those small moments can be costly. Junior Camroero will hit next. Scoreless here, but now he’s got to deal with a guy who’s got some power. Got to be careful when you’re talking about a hitter with this type of slug and these type of home run totals. Freed out of the stretch fires right through there for a strike. 02 count both pitches on the inside part of the plate. Hitter is thinking I want to get beat here. This is a good time for something off speed away. The high heat pass them. That’s a strike out. Well, that seemed to be over as soon as it started. Three pitch strike out. You’ve got to be better at the plate right there at least to foul something off. Extend that at bat. Now it’s going to be Josh Low. He was a strikeout victim his first time. That one in there across the letters. Blind drive. That’s a base hit into right field and they hold the runner at third, but the bases are loaded now with one out. Hey, whatever works, right? Doesn’t have to be impressive. He clearly didn’t catch that one on the big part of the bat. Just kind of muscled it out there. And you know, on the mound, it can be pretty frustrating for a pitcher, but you just kind of have to expect those to drop in there sometimes. Mango in the box, lays off for ball one. to third. Might be two. Over to second for one. Over to first. Safe. I promise you, they’re guys that get a little bit faster when they can smell an RBI. That was a possible inning ending double play. Great hustle and he gets rewarded with the RBI because of it. Danny Chansing to hit here. He’s 0 for one. Just missed. Lefty out of the stretch. Runners at first and third. Slashed foul down the right side. That’ll hook off into the seats. Next offering is in for a strike. Or at third. Mango on first with two down. Up and in. And that’s ball two. in the dirt. Nice job behind the plate there. Down the line and it’s foul. And they’re all loaded up. Take your base. Oh, very close with the location right there. It’s just tough to get rewarded on the call with pitches near the top of the strike zone. So, up next, Taylor Walls. That breaking ball drops in for a strike. Tough situation right here. So important as a pitcher to get ahead in the count as he did right there. All loaded up. Top half of inning number four. 0 and two now on the ground. Base hit. One run is in. Now a second crosses the plate. It’s three zip. Oh, he was a little off balance. He got the front foot down, but was so great at keeping the hands back and allowed him still to get good wood to this baseball. Big one there as he drives in a couple of runs. First and second, two outs. Now it’s the second baseman, Jose Caviierro. High in the air out to right. Judge is under it. And that is that. Three runs for him here. And they move ahead on now to the bottom of the fourth. Rays three and the Yankees nothing back in the bottom of the fourth. So now the Yankees clean up hitter Ben Rice. You were right. Well, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across. This is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning. Don’t give that other team any hope. Uh you just hope that he can get through this inning, get the bats back up there while they’re hot. Second baseman Jazz Chisum Jr. Jazz Chisum Jr. now struck out looking at his first at four homers in 22 games at Old Yankee Stadium. What do you remember? Well, I remember my rookie year hitting two in one game. And you know, before that game in the clubhouse, there was a gentleman there who owned a suit company there in downtown Manhattan. And he said to me, “Hey kid, you hit a home run in the game tonight. Come over to the store tomorrow and I’ll give you a free suit.” So, I went into the game. I happened to hit two. when I walked into the store the next day and he looked at me said, “You’re trying to put me out of business, aren’t you?” And that was a great great and he can’t come up with it. Gets off a throw. The throw is late and they catch a break as they get a base runner at first. Well, looked like a pretty routine play. Just couldn’t get it to stick in the glove as he gets tagged with the air. Should have been two outs in the inning, but now they have to work around it and get two more. So digging in Jason Dominguez. He’s 0 for one. Here’s the pitch. Runner on the go. That’s in for a strike. And that’s a stolen base. Not even close. You know, nights like this when it seems harder to score, I like the ball to put him in motion and try to steal the base. Ball’s not carrying. No home runs so far. So trying to manufacture some offense like this may be the way to go. That one a little bit high and one and one. So, did Super Joe give you two suits? Super Joe hooked me up with two suits. Throw to second. Save. One out and a runner at second. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Smoked on the ground to second and it’ll be first and third now after that miscue. Now batting. That’s a dangerous throw from the first baseman to try to handle right there. Exposed him to a potential collision and we’ve all seen some of the ugly ones over the years on plays similar to that one. So it’s great nothing came out of that other than the throwing error. And the batter will be the shorts stop. Anthony Vulpi grounded out his first time. Swinging a ball hit out towards left center field. Makes the grab and that should get the job done as he tanks from third. He’s in on the sack fly. And now just a two-run deficit. Look how far he had to go that time. What an amazing catch. He believes that he can get to everything and that attitude allows the speed to play in well enough for him to run down balls that guys would just play off the hawk. Here’s the catcher JCA and he’s already singled in this game. Swinging a ground ball up the middle. They take the force out and that is the inning. Saw a couple of errors lead to a run. We played four. raise three and the Yankees won. Back here in New York, top five, John Shabi with Chris Singleton. And leading it off, number 14 Simpson. Free back to work on the corner for a strike. It’s 0 and one for you growing up in New York City. I mean, you’re a big sports fan. Tell me about your experience with the Yankees growing up. I really went to Sha Stadium more than I did to Yankee Stadium. I grew up a Phillies fan. There was one game though that I went to as a kid. I sat in the upper deck. It was the game that Bo Jackson hit three homers in his first three plate appearances and then hurt a shoulder diving for Dion Sanders inside the park home run. That’s probably the most memorable game that I ever attended as a fan at Old Yankee Stadium. That’s towards center. Gisham on the move and he hauls it in. The left fielder number two, Yandi Diaz. Now he’s two for two. Let’s go Yankees. Ball one. No strikes. 10. ripped into right field. Base hit around first heading for two. Throws to second. Safe and that’s his third hit. Well, here we are. Third time through the order. And this is where we see the OPS jump up. Manager might have to go to the bullpen a little bit sooner than he anticipated. Jonathan Aranda the next to hit late with the swing there. 01. Fouled off left side. Diaz the runner at second with one away. Ah, look out. You hit him. That fast ball drilled him. He had two strikes on him and he hit him. And here comes the Yankees manager to the mound. Pitching change coming. Max Freed will give way. Two-run ball game as he heads for the dugout. And we’ll be back with a new pitcher. Now pitching for out of the bullpen for the Yankees, Alan Wein, number 62. This is his third time out this year. W. Two on, one out. Junior Camero getting ready to hit. A strike out and a walk. And a good fast ball to start him off. That’s strike one. Good pitch right there. Anytime you can get one by a bat of this caliber, especially with runners on, it’s got to give you some confidence out there on the mound that you can win this battle. In the air, foul off first. Rice snags it for the second out. Boy, that was a hanging breaking ball right there. I think he tried to do a little bit too much. Sometimes those eyes can get really big. I think his swing broke down as well and that’s what caused him to pop it up. Next is the designated hitter, Josh Low. One for two. Hard on the ground to first. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. So the Rays strand a pair and the score stays three to one. Back at Yankee Stadium. Here’s the third base, Oswald Parasa. Oswald Roza first offering misses badly for ball one. You know, these Yankees just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. Chasing pitches has been a big part of the story. We’ve seen it quite a bit today. It’s been tough for him to make contact at times and it just doesn’t look like they’re seeing it very well as a group. Well, I think he’s trying to get a feel for where that one missed. I mean, it could have gone either way, but he looked a little shocked for a second there. The 200 is in for a strike. And on the mound, you know, confidence has to be pretty high with all of the swings and misses. He’s had him eaten out of the palm of his hand pretty much all game. That one not close. And now it’s three and two. Goes down swinging for the strike out. And that’s strikeout number 100 on the year. But that kind of velocity in elevated fast, even if it’s still in the strike zone, can be tough for hitters to get on top of. Gisham in the box again takes the strike. He’s been very consistent with his command out there on the mound. Consistently throwing at the knees. Pretty impressive when a guy can repeat his delivery like this. One down base is empty and a foul ball. And that’s in the dirt. I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. Swings and misses. And that’s sixks for him in this final batting. The Here’s Cody Bellinger. Cody Bellinger. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Oh, he’s got to be pretty proud of this outing so far. Sometimes guys cower coming into a ballpark like this, but he has attacked hitters. Pitching on the road like this is very impressive. This has been a treat to watch. And it’s even up. Man, that’s just a nasty splitter. Bottom falls out of it. You don’t see a lot of guys throw that these days, but I tell you what, he’s got a good one. Bellinger checks his swing. Appeal to third. No swing. He held up. Clyde Washington with the call there. Two and one now. Up the middle. Walls throws to first. Three up, three down. Inning over. Nothing across here this half. We’re through five. Rays three and the Yankees won. All right, we go to the top half of inning number six. And stepping in for the Rays, Jake Mangum. Let’s go Yankees. That’s in there. Next offering is in for a strike. Well, he’s gotten ahead with two pitches down in the zone. He has plenty of options right here. He can go up, he can go away, he can add velocity, he can subtract. Headed towards the corner and a foul ball. Oh, this is a good time to step out of the box, take a deep breath, reset. Couple of change ups. Probably won’t see another one here. up the middle into the outfield base hit and the leadoff man aboard now batting catcher Danny now it’s Jansen to hit Jansen and downstairs rudder at first with no outs here. Pickoff throw. Yeah, he’s back safely. That one finds the zone. One ball, one strike. Activity in the bullpen for the Yankees. Scott Efro getting loose out there for Aaron Boone. Hill warming up as well. Check swing and he went and count. One and two. One and two count. Ground ball right side. Could be two. Devoli at second for one. Plenty of time in first. That’s a double play. For me, that’s one of the toughest double plays to turn on the infield. First baseman has to get inside, create a throwing lane to hit that middle infielder to start the double play, and then from there completing it back to first. Really good job all the way around. Taylor Walls next to hit for the Rays. This one lifted in the air left field. Dominguez. He’s got it. And that’ll end the inning. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. Hard of the order 345 coming up. Rays three and the Yankees won. Back for more from the Bronx. Bottom of the six. Aaron Judge at the plate. He’s not going to get cheated up there. No, he’s not. He’s looking to do damage with every swing he takes. That’s a little high. And that’s ball one. Definitely a frustrating day for the offense, but when they look at it, this guy’s had his best stuff. Painting the corners, working on the edges, and changing speeds. Just a difficult one. You tip your cap. Fly ball down the line. This has got a chance. And it is foul. Though that ball was hit pretty hard and sure had home run distance, but if you’re the pitcher out there on the mound, you execute it. Just a long strike, you go after him and finish him off. Action in the pen down there. Mason Angler warming up for manager Kevin Cash. Usetta also getting ready. Swing and a miss. Struck him out and he’s up to seven strikeouts. Toughest pitch to hit. fast ball on the outer black. Man, sometimes you just got to tip your cap. Now at the plate, Ben Rice 0 for two in this one. Not even close there. And it’s one and0. And a strike fought off foul. The Rays up by two here in the bottom of the six. left field. Diaz sizing this one up and he makes the catch and there are two outs. The batter number 13, second base Jazz Chisum Jr. digs in now. Swing and a miss as he chases that one darting out of the zone. Robert to right field way back. Gone. His 19th home run of the year. It’s 3-2. Two pitches, two swings. that one for a home run. Looking to be aggressive all the way and it paid off for him in a big way. Looks like this guy was looking out over the plate and he was ready to turn on the inside fast. So direct to the pitch. Absolutely blasted out of this ball. So, up next, Jason Dominguez. There’s the strike. That one fouled off. going to count one and two. Too close for me partner to take that O2 fast ball, but for whatever reasons he let it go by. He’s still in the at bat. I don’t think he’ll let the next one go. Ripped to third, but handled. And that’ll end the inning. But not before they’re able to draw closer with this blast. It’s now a 32 ball game. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. New inning getting started now. Up for Tampa Bay. Jose Caviro. The second base in his rookie season. 29 years old. They got him off of waiverss earlier this season. Swing and a high-fly ball to left. Dominguez under it. Makes the catch and there’s one gone. The center fielder number 14, Chandler. And now the center fielder. That one’s in there. 0 and one. And that one pulled foul. Set him down. Had a swing and a line drive into a right field. He’s got it. There’s two away. The left field number two, Yandi. Now the left fielder, Yandi Diaz. Three for three with two singles and a double. Swaying at a line drive. That’s a base hit into center field. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. Up next for Tampa Bay, the first baseman, Jonathan. Well, next to the plate for Tampa Bay, Jonathan Aranda. Come on, let’s go in the dirt. Diaz, the runner at first with two gone. Come on, New York. That’s a ball. Two. Y swings through that one for strike one. 2-1. Hit in the air. Left field. Dominguez right there to make the grab. And that is that. The Rays strand just the one, but they’re up three to two. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Mason Angler. He’s averaging more than one hit allowed per inning pitch this season. And that’s not where you want to be at all. So, we’ll see how he does here. for the Yankees. Well, one run game. Here’s the short stop at the plate. Anthony Vulpi. Swing and a highf fly ball out towards right center field. Brings it in and there’s one down. He was all over that first pitch fast. Just barely missed it. Man, this guy was ready to hit. JCA now at the plate. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. One ball. No strikes. Base hit center field. And that puts the tying run on base. Well, that was an important at bat in this game. So, a great job stepping up to the challenge. Everything was on time and fluid in that swing. Got a pitch he could get the barrel on and lined it into center for the knock. Those always feel good. Down to third baseman, Oswald PZA. Bounding ball here. Rolls foul. If you’re a base runner, you got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get in scoring position to the right side. Wide throw and it gets away, but Noah moves up as it’s backed up nicely there. A potential double play ball get to first is probably the toughest one to execute cleanly. that first baseman, he’s got a very tough throwing lane to deal with because of the runner headed to second base and a lot of times guys try to throw over or around the runner which can really mess up a throw like that. Still definitely an error though. So the tying run in scoring position now. Gisham will hit next and that one missing low. and fouled off. Swinging a ground ball and that one finds its way through. Here comes the throw. It’s offline and he scores. Such great concentration. Everybody on their feet knowing that you can come through with a good swing. And there he doesn’t try to do too much. Big spot and Cody Bellinger stepping to the dish. 0 for three in this one. Center field. squeezes it. Runner tags from third. He scores. That’s a big sacrifice fly and they take the lead in the seventh. Here comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Mason Angler departs and unfortunately he didn’t get much help behind him defensively. New arm coming in. We’ll be back. Now pitching for and we’ve got ourselves a pitching change. Kevin Kelly just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. And now big number 99 Aaron Judge. Got to be careful with a slugger like this because he can turn it into a three-run game in the blink of an eye. Check swing called strike on the ground to first and it finds its way through for a hit and out to a board. Just a simple ground ball the other way that had eyes on it. Man, sometimes that’s all you need to do. Just let the ball travel, put the ball in play, and just hope it finds a hole. First and second, two outs. Ben Rice stepping in now for the Yankees. Just missed. Two outs. In for a strike, and it’s one and one. Let’s see if he’s willing to use the whole field right here. Definitely pounding him away. Two on, two outs. And it goes just foul. That’s off the mark. Two balls, two strikes. Swing and a ball popped in the air and that’ll fall for a base hit. Gisham around third. He’ll score easily and it’s an RBI single and a lead by two. Puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI. Hooked around that pitch on the outside, but he was still able to square it up pretty nicely. And that takes quick, strong wrist to pull that off. And that’s fouled off. Traffic on the bases with three already across here in the bottom of the seventh and a sweeper misses for a ball. Next offering upstairs two and he couldn’t hold back. He’s rung up on strikes. So they get three and jump ahead late. We look ahead to inning number eight. It’s the Yankees five and the Rays three. Welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Jonathan Loisa. And something to be aware of, the long ball has been a little bit of a problem for him this year. Jonathan Lisa. Now, here’s the Tampa Bay cleanup hitter, Junior Camo. Number 13, Junior Kamado. New York hard hit left side. Sends it across the first. Important first down to begin the eighth. If you want to be a great defense, you have to deliver consistently. It doesn’t matter how many highlight reel plays you make if you can’t execute the small stuff. Just like we saw. New York. Let’s go. Come on. Low stands in now and watches strike one. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Devin Williams getting loose out there for Aaron Boone. Hamilton a hard throwing right-hander up as well. One down. Base is empty. Shot missed outside. And that one fouled off. All right, let’s go. And he chases that one. And there’s two away now. Got it. Two outs. Base is empty. Jake Mango next to hit for the Rays. And a bunt towards third. And that goes fouled. Out to short. Vulpi on the run. throw to first. They get the out and that’ll do it. Nothing doing it for Tampa. They’re still down 5-3. Back at Yankee Stadium. Bottom of the eighth. Digging in is the switching outfielder Jason Dominguez. Dominguez. Kelly back to work. slides, but he can’t come up with it. Man at first, nobody out. And now the shorts stop. Anthony Vulpi. The shorts stop takes the ball. Dominguez on at first. Nobody out. Next offering is in for a strike. Let’s go. Pitch is in the dirt. Ball two. Move to first. Dominguez back on a dive. Yankees. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And now one away. Now batting JCA stepping in now for the Yankees. And that’s a strike. That one finds the zone and the count is 0 and two. had a good eye there. And that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. Got him looking and he’s registered three Ks in this one. Oh, interesting. He’s looking very comfortable out in the stretch after giving up the lead off single. Back to back strikeouts. So they haven’t been able to move that runner up, get him into scoring position and try to have a better chance of scoring. I tell you, good job so far on the mound. He just needs one more out. Now a chance for Oswald PZA that misses off the outside edge. Be patient. Two outs. Foul ball. Yankees. Here comes the pitch. Runner breaks for second. Fans another. And that’s three straight strikeouts. The Yanks lead one and it remains 53. is now pitching. We’re back and on the mound is the closer Deon Williams and Boo. The offense needs to be ready for the screen. It’s not a pitch you see very often, so it’s tough to pick up and it’s a good one. And now the catcher for the Rays, Danny Jansen. Danny Jensen. Here’s a swing and a drive left field and he knew it. A solo shot. His 12th of the season. It’s 54. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time in that at bat, boo. Aggressive and it paid off. Welcome to the game. First pitch out of the bullpen, a tough one. and you know, he’s just trying to get one in there for a strike. And on the other side, as a hitter, it’s a great time to be aggressive and let it fly. It’s not what they were looking for when they turned to him. But now he’s got to find a way to reset. So now a pitch hitter, Christopher Morel, and he would be the tying run. So we may see him try to launch one if he gets a good pitch to handle. down and away for ball one. Always exciting to see a laid-off home run in an inning. Kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning. Looking to get the tying run on base. Here’s a tapper towards short. over to first now. One gone in the ninth. Couple of pitches and a quick out. Now that second base, he’s two outs away and stepping in for the Rays. Jose Caviierro 0 for three with two fly outs and a strikeout. Right through there for a strike. fouled off. He was late. Crowd locked in right now. One-run game here in the ninth. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. One and two to count. That’s one you always want as a pitcher. Down at the knees and it looks to me like he’s barking. That’s a strike. doesn’t change the call, but sometimes it helps to let that frustration out a little bit. Swing and a miss. Stop him out. Down to the last out for the Rays. Man, I really like the ability to bounce back right there after not getting the call. He probably should have gotten. Didn’t let it affect his focus and he came back with another good pitch to get him swinging. Last chance for the Rays. Here’s the center fielder number 14. going. Trying to keep good speed off the bases. They’re down to their final strike. That’s a real nice cutter right there. This guy can struggle with the inside pitch at times. So, I’d say that’s pretty effective if you can continue to command it on that side of the plate. Ground ball and this should do it. So, the tying run reaches with two away. That’s tremendous fight from him. And I know it’s got the dugout fired up down there. Down to the last strike and he comes up with a hit to keep the game alive. It ain’t over yet. Yandi Diaz getting ready to hit to the left side, but it is well fouled. That’s a big run over there at first base. He’s got some speed. Let’s see if they send him. One-run game here in the top of the ninth. Williams throws over. Oh, he’s in there. In the air, right field. They stopped the lead runner at second. Now two on with two outs. I mean, come on. Have a game. I don’t know how he’s able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it. That pitch was inside and he let it get really deep. So, pretty incredible hands to fight it off and still get good wood on it. Chance now to even the score and maybe extend this game. And here comes the Yankees manager to the mound. Pitching change coming. Devin Williams is done and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. Now pitching. a picture on here. Scott Efro gets an opportunity to square off against his former team. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if he came out a little extra jacked up right here. And here’s the first baseman, Jonathan Aranda, down to their final out, but an opportunity to deliver the tying and maybe even winning run in there and it’s 0 and one. Big spot. Two out. Both the tying and go-ahead runs are aboard. The Rays down to their final strike. swing and a ground ball and that one gets through into center field. The run scores from second and it’s an RBI single and they’ve tied it in the top of the ninth. Well, there you go. The RBI machine. Another clutch runscoring at bat. Yeah, he’s been so good in these situations. Call it clutch if you want, but his resume speaks for itself. Junior Camro next to hit for the Rays. outfield playing very deep, not wanting anything over their heads. And that’s through there for a strike. hit on the ground to the right side and it’s just fouled. That was close. Two on, two outs. Got him. They miss a big chance to take the lead here late. A rally in the top of the ninth and we’ve got a whole new ball game. We’re all tied up 55. back now as they hand the ball to a fresh arm to start the bottom of the ninth. Edwin, he’s been so good against lefties. Number 63, Edwin Usetta. Hung, he’s the new shorts stop as he comes in as a defensive replacement here. number seven. Back to the top of the order now. Now here’s Trent Gisham leading up for the Yankees. The center fielder, Trent Gisha. Pulled hard, but it’s a foul ball. And that drops in for a strike. Bullpen movement for the Rays. Pete Fairbanks. The closer is getting loose. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. missed with a change up and that’s ball one swing and a miss. That’s a strike out. Pulled the string on the change up. Now batting the one down. There comes Bellinger. Both the infield and the outfield shifted over to the right. And the first pitch misses for ball one. All tied up. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. Swing and a miss. One and one. Good eye right there, man. Oh, man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. One down, base is empty. And that one hit to first. Takes it himself. And that quickly two away. Well, there’s a lot riding on that right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. Here is Aaron Judge. And Judge spoils that one. This guy’s got good power. With one swing, he can win it for him. Just misses with that one. Swings and misses. That’s the third out and we’re headed to extras. Yanks held in check. This ball game still tied five all here at New Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Now it’s the DHitter. Josh Low check swing called strike. That one close. Rule the ball. had a count even one and one. And there’s a ball. Good slider down and in can be so hard to get on plane with. You’re better off taking that pitch. Two. Lifted in the air right center field. Judge getting an angle on it. Drops into the glove. Runner tags at second and the throws off line. Safe at third. Up next for Tampa Bay, the right fielder Jake Mango. A move being made at third on a pinch run. Coco Montes number five. Coco. So the go-ahehead run in scoring position. Jake Mangum next to hit for the Rays. Outfield playing pretty shallow. It’s a pitch out. Nothing doing. And that’s ball one in the infield at the corners. Don’t be surprised to see them come home first and prevent that run from scoring. Two and they try another pitch out. that clips the inside corner for a strike. Definitely a strikeout situation right here. Lots of ways for that go-ahead run to score if the ball’s put in play with the go ahead run at third here in extra innings. That one in for a strike. Two and two. I think ultimately you want to tie him up, get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield. That’s down and in. A slider missed. Tap to first. Takes it to the bag. Steps on first and it’s out. Number two. Deceptive slider right there. Stayed in the tunnel a long time. Got that hitter out front. Rolled over it. Put it on the ground. Danny Jansen digs in now. He’s already homered in this game. And that is out of play. Two down. Go ahead run in scoring position. Slice to right and foul ball and one and two. See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading the count one two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you can get hurt. Swing and a ball lifted to center field. Gisham is there. Makes the catch and that’s the third out. A lot of it. We can see it right there. And sometimes you just got to let it out. That’s an outstanding job of taking that executing and getting out of a tough inning. We’re at extras here now. Here’s the Yankees cleanup hitter Ben Rice. Listen, there’s absolutely no reason to pitch to this guy right here. You nibble, you see if he’ll expand his zone, but don’t give him anything to hit. If you walk them, not a big deal. You have a double play opportunity set up. And that’s downstairs. And that is rolled softly, but that goes foul. Next offering is in for a strike. That one missed just off the outside edge and the count’s full. That’s a really good take. And at second misses. It’s a strikeout. Well, I’m not sure what he was waiting on right there. He got the change up and still late on it. You rarely see that. It almost makes you think that he was trying to set the pitcher up. I mean, if you can’t catch up to the off speed stuff, there’s no way you’re going to touch a fast ball. And up next for New York, Jazz Chisum Jr., he’s already homered here in this one. Oh, and he hit him. Yeah, hit him. Take your bait. These types of mistakes usually turn out to be costly this late in the ball game. Things can really slip away in a hurry. Swinging a foul out of play. One away and the game-winning run stands at second. Next pitch is outside. gets him to chase after that one. One and two. The count. Swing. Now it’ll appeal to third. No swing. Just held it back there. And that is downstairs. And now it’s filled up. Three and two. Anthony Vulpi in the onex circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Ball four. He lost it. And that keeps things going. Very close off the outside. Could have easily been called a strike in that location. And the batter will be the short stop. Anthony Vulpi. Golden opportunity right here in for a strike and it’s 0 and one. Well, in this situation with runners on, you got to get ahead in the count so that you can dictate the rest of the at bat. Nice job right there. Hit pretty well in the air out to center. He’s under it. Brings it in. Runner tags from third. Throw is offline. This one’s over and the Yankees walk it off in extra innings. These can be tough at bats when you know you’ve got to get the ball in the air. At worst case scenario, that pitcher is going to try to tie you up, throw you up and in. But he did a good job pulling the hands through extension to put that ball deep enough out into the outfield to score that run and win this game. Heat. Heat. 65 the final here today. A oneun extra inning win for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shambi saying so long.
