MLB LIVE🔴 Atlanta Braves vs Kansas City Royals – Jul 28, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
and welcome into the ballpark. Happy to have you with us. Inner league baseball on MLB the show. The Atlanta Braves going up against the Kansas City Royals. And now, and we’ll be back with the first pitch right after this. Kansas City Royal about to get started here. Starting on the mound in this one, Seth Lugo. And Chris, he seems a lot more comfortable pitching here at home than on the road. Right. Indeed, Boo. And there can be several factors, whether it’s just sleeping in your own bed, being around your family, going to your favorite restaurant before you come to the ballpark. I don’t know what it is for him, but the numbers are clear that he’s been dominant in this place. The only frustration is you see how good he is at home and if you’re a teammate or a coach, you’re looking and saying, “Hey, if you can be almost as good as that on the road, you’re going to have a great year and we’re going to win more ball games.” in for a strike and a count even one and one. Rolled softly, but that goes foul. [Music] And that’s outside now. Two and two. stays alive. Swing and a ground ball and that one gets through into center field. So, a man on base to start the inning. Got to love the resiliency he showed in that at bat. Battling with two strikes. Tied in on the swing was good. Able to shoot the ball up the middle. Didn’t square it up as much as he probably would have liked, but that’s a good approach paying off. Matt Olsen up to the plate. Swinging a foul straight back. Come on, let’s get the ground. High in the air out to right. Ray sizing this one up and there’s one away. In third. Here’s the Atlanta Braves lineup. And Chris, this group has been struggling to put up runs lately. Well, they haven’t been on base a ton, and even when they are, they haven’t been hitting very well with runners on base. So, they need a player or two to really step up, have some quality at bats, hit according to the situation, and sort of break out of this. I think if they do, the rest of this lineup will follow. Drake Baldwin in the box now. No balls in a strike. Man at first, one away. Ground ball right side. Could be two. Frasier over to second and that’s two. One hit in the inning, but no one left. The Royals will get their chance now in a scoreless ball game. back here in Kansas City. And our pitcher tonight, Spencer Strider and Singy, that may be his name, but the strikeout is his game. Well, Boo, I can tell you’ve been working on that one, but yes, you are right. This guy strikeout per nine over 11. I mean, that’s just getting it done. There are a lot of strikeouts in that other lineup. And when you look at what he’s able to do, man, it’s going to be a fun one to watch today. Here’s the veteran second baseman, Adam Frasier. [Applause] Clips the corner and that’s strike one. Strider is a guy known for his velocity, he can bring it. But that wasn’t always the case. Coming back from an injury in college, Strider was throwing 94 to 96 mph boo when the Braves drafted him. Now he lights up the radar gun with tripledigit speeds. [Music] Strider deals up the middle, lays out, but he can’t squeeze it. No throw and they can’t get the output for the Royals. Mike Garcia not getting the results he’s wanted at the plate recently. barely hitting over the Mendoza line this month. 10 [Applause] ball. Nobody out. Runner at first. [Applause] ball. [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike. Well, it looks like he’s wanting to work the upper part of the strike zone. What does that mean? Top hand better be working for the hitters. Adjust that side a little bit. Give yourself a chance to hit this one. Smoked could be trouble and that’s going to get into the corner. Lead runner around second coming home out at the plate. Got him. A lot of real estate to cover on that play defensively. A long throw to the cut off man and then a lot of ground to make up as well on the relay. But an excellent job of execution and getting that out at the dish as he tried to make it home all the way from first base. [Applause] So, the go-ahehead run in scoring position. And here’s the first baseman, Vinnie Pasquantino. And that’s off the inside edge. And it’s one and0. Garcia, the runner at second with one away. Fast ball for a strike. Was good pitch there. Had some run and finished. Little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it. He had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Man at second. Missed inside with the curb. Get ready for some action here. Good RBI guy at the plate. Runners in scoring position. And the hitters count. and ball four to a board. Now, this was a story we were paying attention to before the game. We’ve seen him give up walks in the past and it’s an issue once again early on. Two on, one out. And now it’s Salvador Perez to the plate. Fast in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. The last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground, but I wouldn’t expect many pitches up in the zone. They’ll be pitching for a double play in this spot. One out, runners at first and second. [Applause] And strike two. Well, you got the hitter already chasing that nasty slider. If you’re on the mound, you just want to expand the zone right now. Get a swing and miss and get through this at bat. Swing and a miss. He struck him out. Had him out front for strike three. Oh, that’s a curve ball that I’m sure he wants back at the plate. Two strikes, the sort of pitch you’re hoping for. a bit of a mistake and I’d say in a very hitable location, but clearly the break was enough to get him to swing through it. Here’s the Royals designated hitter, Jack Kaggle Leone. There’s the strike. 01. Two aboard, two outs. [Applause] That one missing inside late on that fast ball. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. Really think the outer half is open. Foul ball still a one and two count. Two on, two outs. Swing and a highf fly ball to left. Proofar under it, brings it in. And that will end the inning. Royals strand a pair. Scoreless after one. Back here at Kaufman Stadium. Second inning set to go. So here’s Murphy now. Kansas City. Lugo back to work. And there’s a strike. Murphy will handle the catching duties in this one. 30 years old now. And he was a third round pick back in 2016. Swang and a miss. That is strike two. Joe McDonald doing the home play duties here. Well, Joe is an interesting one. I’m always trying to figure out what exactly his zone is. Feels like it kind of moves around from game to game, sometimes inning to inning. Yeah, I think that’s fair. I don’t think he’s ever way off with his balls and strikes, but yeah, I don’t think it’s easy to define what his zone is. Like you said, that one outside and the count is one and two. [Music] Hit in the air left field. Perez one down. Just pulled off of it a little bit right there. that front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left. Kansas City. Azie Alies batting with one down takes the strike. Looks like he’s just sizing him up there. Really good pitch to hit, but he took it all the way. Sometimes guys just want to set their timing later on in the game. That may be a pitch that he turns on. One out. Base is empty. That one misses. One and two count. [Music] Swing. And a ball popped up. Garcia. hauls it in for the out and there’s two down. That six the center fielder Michael. So up next, Michael Harris II singing he’s never finished the season with more stolen bases in his entire career. That clips a corner. [Applause] Finished. [Applause] Swings through it for the K. And that’s strikeout number 100 on the year. Braves are set down one, two, three. We’ll go to the bottom of the second. No score. And welcome back to the ballpark. Here’s the rookie right fielder, John Ray. Ray. And that’s through there for a strike. And it’s 0 and one. [Music] breaking ball in there for a strike. All right. Now, he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire’s calls, but at this point, he’s going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Well, Boo, I’ll tell you, when he goes to look at the video of that pitch, he’s going to want to punch himself. That slider had hit me written all over it. And clearly, he just got a little too excited and was out in front. Tell you what, when you get a pitch like that, you cannot miss it. Those have a chance to go a long way. Stepping in, Freddy Fine. Way outside. Ball one. [Applause] [Music] Top of the zone and it’s called a strike. One ball, one strike. [Applause] Nothing. Nothing here in the bottom of the second. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Oh, that slider was way out of the zone. And for me, it just comes down to not seeing the pitch out of the hand, not tracking it into the zone. And then also being a little bit anxious, not confident in your two strike approach. And so when a guy’s in that position, you get him to commit early. And a lot of times you get the swing and miss as you did right there. And now it’s Kyle Isbel. That’s a strike. Next offering is in for a strike. Quickly into an 02 count. Both pitches were down in the zone. I think you set your sights a little bit higher. Oh, that got him. He had two strikes on him and he hit him. Here’s the rookie third baseman. The third baseman, Tyler Tolber. [Applause] Fought off foul. Oh, one down. And that one fouled off. Two gone, but the go ahead run is at first. Bottom half of inning number two. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Just misses the mark outside the zone. Really good take, especially with two strikes. [Music] outside and it’s two and two. [Music] This one in the air. Alvarez under this one. And that is that. Royals leave one. We’ll move to the third with no score. And we’re back. Well, here we go. Top of the third. Scoreless game now at the plate. Nacho Alvarez Jr. out in front and fouled to the left side. That misses the zone. One ball, one strike. [Music] Check swing called strike. Fights that one away. Still one and two. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Got him looking for the K. He’s got to be frustrated with that call. Wow. That’s a tone call for the hitter, but the pitcher will take that all day long. Not quite in the strike zone, but he found a spot that the umpire is going to at least for now allow him to get that call. So, hitters are going to have to make an adjustment, but pitchers are going to learn from those things and really try to exploit him if they can. Eli White at the plate and takes high there. and that’s too high. Top of the third, no score. That one fouled off. And a two-1 on the way. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. Batting. No, the shorts stop Nick. And the batter will be the shortstop, Nick Allen. in the dirt. Tag save at second and good hustle to move up. That’s a wild pitch. Can’t imagine he’s too happy with that one on the mound. Just one pitch after giving up the single, he basically turns it into a double. in the dirt. One-1. The 1-1 is fouled off. One out and a runner at second. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. Swinging a miss. That one in the dirt on the first and there’s two gone following the strike out. So a wild pitch allows the runner to advance. Definitely a strikeout situation right there and he got it. You do not want him to put the ball in play and want to strand that runner at third. Now all he needs is one more out to get it. Doesn’t have to be a strike out this time since now they’re two outs. Profar stands in here. Tried to hold back his swing there but went around. [Music] in the air to left center. Perez coming on. He’s got it. And that is that Braves strand one. And we are still scoreless. Back here in Kansas City as we go to the last of the third. Now it’s the second baseman, Adam Frasier. Strider out there on the mound for this one. And he’s a guy who had a really impressive college career, but needed Tommy John’s surgery while playing for Clemson. On the ground of first takes it himself. One gone. Bottom of the third inning. The batter number 11, shortstop, Mel Garcia. Mike Garcia now at the plate. Doubled in his first AB. [Applause] Down and away for ball one. And that’s outside. Looks like he’s being a little cautious with him in this at bat after doubling the first time up. Doesn’t want to make another mistake. And another ball. That one finds the zone and the count is three and one. One strike. Late swing fouled off. [Music] Now this one’s crushed down the line. Hooking foul ball. Good solid contact right there. Just a bit out in front of that fast ball. Got to try to stay on that backside just a little bit longer and see if you can do some damage. And that quickly two away. The first baseman number nine Vinnie. Next to hit, Vinnie Pasquentino walked his first time late on that fast ball. When you throw a fast ball by a guy like that, I imagine it’s got to feel incredible. Look for him to throw it again at some point. Fast ball for a strike. looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away. Two outs. Base is empty. [Music] Good eye right there. 02 count. You got the opportunity to expand the zone. Could get the chase there. Let’s see what he comes back with next. right side. Albees throws to first and it’s a one, two, three inning. Nothing doing for the Royals and we’re still knotted at zero. Back here at Kaufman Stadium, John Champi with Chris Singleton and set to lead off the fourth, Matt Olsen. Let’s go. Come on, Royals. And that gets the inside corner for a strike. You know, these Braves just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. So many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches. They’re chasing outside of the strike zone. You can’t do much of anything with those locations. And that’s been true again today. In the air, left field, holds it in for the owl. And as a pitcher, when the hitters are swinging at everything, you feel no need to challenge inside the zone. You just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond, and they just keep eating right out of your hand. Baldwin stands in now and watches strike one. Next offering is fouled back. Fourth inning underway. No score. Very dominant with that fast ball inside. Hitters going to be conscious of that. Now you have the outer half of the plate to work with out there on the mound. And one and two. I don’t like to say he wasted a pitch. I think that was a purpose pitch. Change the eye level. Have him look up. Now go back exactly where you want to go. Popped up first base side. Pasquentino settles underneath it and it’s caught for the owl. Now batting catcher Shawn Murphy. Here’s Shawn Murphy. Fly to left his first time. Come on. Way high with that one. And that’s ball one. Two down, nobody on. Top half of inning number four. And there’s a fly ball deep right field. That one back there. And that ball is out of here. His 17th of the year. And that gives him a lead. It’s one- nothing. Elevated fast balls, especially away, are like putting the ball on a tea. Hitters do a lot of cage work. They’re comfortable hitting off the TE’s. And he was comfortable right there hitting that ball opposite field for a home run. Two outs, nobody on. Azie Alby’s next up for the Braves. That’s outside and that is ball one. And another ball. Lugo maybe a little less aggressive on the mound right now after that home run, Chris. Yeah, it seems that way. You know, guys, they can come out, feel good, but then all of a sudden get touched up a little bit and they start trying to throw instead of pitch. They’re not trusting their stuff. one strike. Well, he’s been good for the most part. Is it going to take someone going out to the mound to maybe refocus him a bit? No, partner. Every pitcher is a little different. I I liken it to you. Sometimes you come in and you’re not as focused and I kind of do what it takes to get you on track and that you have a great show. Uh so perhaps it’s the same with him. Nobody really wants their rhythm broken up, but sometimes they need a little pickme up. Now batting the center fielder, Michael. Here’s the center fielder, Michael Harris. I struck out swinging his first time. [Applause] And there’s a strike on the outside corner. [Applause] Two outs. And that’s pushed foul off to the left and out of play. I love how he tracked the ball right there and was able to get through that fast ball just a little bit late. Otherwise, it stays fair. I think if the top hand is a little a strike three and the third out. So, we take a break. Atlanta draws first blood with a solo shot. It’s now one- nothing. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. Bottom of the fourth and now it’ll be the cleanup spot for the Royals. Salvador Perez. [Music] First pitch and he just misses. [Applause] That one missed. [Applause] And that one in the air, center field. One away. Now batting the designated hitter. Now it’s the DH Jack Peg Leone. Fly to left his first time. [Applause] ball here. Rolls foul. Home team down a run. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Next offering is downstairs. Just missed with that back door breaking ball. If he gets a swing and miss or called strike, 02 count. Instead, it’s 1-1. Look for him to go back to that pitch later in this at bat. And now two and one. [Applause] And there’s a ball. Here’s an opportunity to do some damage and perhaps unlock this offense. 3-1 count. Be ready to turn on a fast ball. [Music] 3-1. And he couldn’t come up with it. Pretty easy walk right there. Last pitch. Wasn’t even much to think about. Now batting the one gone runner at first. And to the play for Kansas City, John Ray 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. [Applause] Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. The one liner snagged it first. Dives for the bag. Got him. Double play. Nothing doing here this half. We’re headed to the fifth. It’s the Braves one and the Royals nothing. New inning getting started now. The third base Nacho Alvarez Jr. Lugo back to work. That misses the zone. One and0. Alvarez goes 5′ 11 in just 21 years old and he was a fifth round pick in 2022. Next offering misses and that’s ball two. Two balls, no strike. Swing and a miss as he was late that time. As a hitter, you got to learn something from that pitch. You clearly wasn’t timed up on the fast ball in a 200 count. You have to be ready to do damage. Misses off the play. Three and one. A rare three ball count here. He’s been throwing strikes all day. Got to be ready to hit if you’re in the box. [Music] Next offering is in for a strike. struck him out looking. So digging in, Eli White one for one with a single so far. We talked about guys with good speed and definitely he has it. But pushing the offense aside for just a second, Chris, it’s the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most. First pitch misses. Well, he gets to balls that get by most people at that position. Just really impressive because there’s certain times a ball comes off the bat automatically that team that hit it thinks that they’ve got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away. Pitch misses. Two and one. There’s a swing and a drive and that gets down in the corner. Now he’ll turn for second in safely. It’s a double and his second hit. Wasting no time. He’s two for two now on the night and just a triple and home run away from the cycle. Seriously, we’re starting with this already. Nick Allen next up for the Braves. He’s 0 for one. Come on. That misses. Ball one. One out and a runner at second. And we’re in the top of the fifth. Next pitch in for a strike and the count even at one. Swing and a ball driven pretty well out towards left center. Puts it away for the out. Two down. [Applause] The left fielder number seven, Juriken Profar. Back to the leadoff spot in the Braves lineup. Here’s Proar. He is singled and he has flyed to left. Just missed. A swing and a miss as he chases way out of the zone. And it is two and one. Two outs and one in scoring position. Profar gets a piece there. Pretty good pitch there to take a rip at. He wants to get his arms extended. He likes the ball away from him a little bit. Just not able to square it up. Finish him. Man on second. Two down. Full count. Matt Olsen next to bat for the Braves. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. Well, you can’t really adjust your game plan for that last pitch. Guy hasn’t thrown it very much. You got to focus on the stuff that he’s throwing up there most of the time. Got him looking. So, he picks up his sixth strike out of the ball game. a double in the inning, but they leave him stranded. Last half of the fifth coming up, it’s the Braves one and the Royals nothing. We head to the bottom of the fifth. So, one down for Kansas City. Freddy Fine fouled off down the right side. [Music] That one finds the zone and it’s 0 and two. And he chases that one. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. Well, that’s the money maker right there. Two strikes slider down and away from a same side thrower as the hitter. I mean, that’s just tough. You’re looking to protect with two strikes and very difficult to lay off. Kyle Isbel steps in for the Royals. And that drops in for a strike. The Braves up by a run. Last half of inning number five. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. [Applause] And that’s way high. Ball two. [Applause] And that’s in for a strike. Full count. [Music] breaking ball in there. Got him looking. He picks up his fifth strike out on the hill. No, I’d say that was a pretty generous call right there. And pitchers getting that call, there’s really not much you can do about it as a hitter. And you know what? Guys today are so disciplined to stay with their approach and game plan. Not surprised at all that he took that pitch. Number two stands in here. Leaves that one off the inside. Righty delivers upstairs. [Applause] line drive base hit and that turns the lineup over. But when you fall behind in the count, you’ve got to come into the zone and then guys have a better chance of hitting the ball hard like he did right there. Back to the top of the lineup, here’s Adam Frasier, one for two. [Applause] late swing fouled to the left. Now, if he’s going to steal second, you want him to go early in the count. That way, he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate. Go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. Two and one. Two-1. Chopped to the right side to first and he everyone safe. [Music] The batter number 11, shortstop, Mel Garcia. Mike El Garcia getting ready to hit. The emmo for him is contact. A guy who’s going to deliver average. Not a ton of power. He’s looking to hit a line drive somewhere. Well, that’s why it’s a team. And when you look at a lineup, he’s a great two-hole hitter or a guy that you could put at the bottom to help turn that lineup over to have some momentum for your top hitters coming up to the plate. Two on, two outs. That one lifted to left. And that is the inning. Royals strand a pair. They still trail one- nothing. and welcome back to the ballpark. All right, we go to the top half of inning number six. And now the first baseman, Matt Olsen. And there’s a foul ball. [Music] Next offering is in for a strike. Think that hook’s looking pretty sharp today. Just a solid pitching performance so far. And I really think it’s because of that curve ball. And that’s in the dirt. And it’s one and two. Chases that one out of the zone. make it seven strikeouts for him. Well, that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count. And as a pitcher, it really allows you to start expanding the zone. Hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide. And what happens is because of the pressure, you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is. And that’s what leads to the strikeout. [Music] hit hard to the ground and up the middle. Base hit. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Now batting catcher Shawn Murphy. And now the catcher comes up to him. Shawn Murphy. His homer earlier is responsible for the only runs they scored in this one. Yeah, forget small ball. They’re kind of living and dying by the long ball so far in this one. And a foul ball. Baldwin the base runner at first with one out. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. And it’s one and one. Bullpin action for the Royals. Lucas Ers getting ready to go. Hill the lefty warming up as well. [Music] ball. No. [Music] Lugo checks on first. Baldwin back on a dive. One-run game. One out, one on. ripped on a line to center. Makes a nice running catch and there’s two away. They trust him in center field because he’s capable of making plays on the run. And we saw it right there. That’s a player you want patrolling center field. Someone who can attack the ball off the bat. And here comes Azie Alby’s to the dish and a strike on the outside edge. Right through there for a strike. And a bat like this is almost over as it begins. In this situation, you have no idea what the next pitch is going to be. You just got to hope that you can make contact. Two outs. And that one is inside ball one. Got him looking. Strike out number eight. So, no runs here in a base hit. No errors and one left. Hard in the order. 345 coming up. It’s the Braves one and the Royals nothing. [Applause] And we’re back. Bottom of the six. And the batter now, Vinnie Pasquantino. For the Royals, the first baseman, Vinnie Pasquantino. And there’s a breaking ball that drops in there. Tonight, his slider has been really impressive. I mean, tight spin. Seems like the hitters aren’t picking it up out of the hand. Sliced hard, but fouled down the left side. Well, he missed a hitable offspe pitch right there. Not sure exactly what the timing. Sometimes you get a backup breaking ball. You’re expecting it to make its move at the end. It never does and you’re tied up. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Dylan Lee, a lefty, looks to be getting himself ready. Bummer also throwing [Applause] and that one moves his feet. [Applause] [Music] Now in this three ball count down in the ball game, you got to be very selective. Take your walk, they’ll give it to you. Blind drive. That’s a fair ball inside third around first. Digging for two. And the tying runs at second base with a double. The first move felt like a bit of a guess. You have to be right in those spots or things can get away from you awfully quickly. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Salvador Perez steps in for the Royals. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. [Music] Highfly ball and that one curling foul down the right side. man at second and a swing and a miss. Not what you’re looking for after the leadoff double. A strike out and there’s one away. Just a great slider right there. And I think the key for pitchers and what hitters don’t want to see is if a pitcher misses with that pitch that he misses off the edge of the strike zone rather than in the middle of the strike zone. And right there, excellent execution and it finished up in a perfect spot. Kaggleó up to the plate for the third time as he looks at one down low. [Applause] That one catches the corner for a strike. Next pitch is outside. Swings through that one for strike two. It really looks like these hitters have been in between with their timing today. Good fast ball, excellent slider. got him looking and he’s up to seven strikeouts. Well, even if you don’t feel great about it, you got to swing the bat with two strikes in this situation. You’ve got the tying run out there in scoring position. Just put the ball in play. Maybe something good will happen. It just didn’t look like he understood the situation. And next up for the Royals, John Ra for two in this one. Check swing called strike. No balls, one strike with the tying run at second here in the bottom of the six. Hit on the ground to short. Sends it across the first. Third out and that ends the frame. So one left for Kansas City and it remains one- nothing. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound. Lucas, pretty tight game, so they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. Well, one game. So, now to the plate for Atlanta. Michael Harris II struck out on just three pitches last time and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. And that’s outside and that’s ball one. 1-1 swinging a foul out of play. [Music] Triple digits on that last pitch. Third time he struck out in this one. And definitely an individual performance you want to flush. He just hasn’t looked very comfortable up there. Just one of those days. But when you’re still winning the ball game, at least you can focus on doing your part to maintain that lead and getting that W. And a ground ball to first. A flip to the pitcher covering and two away to start the seven. Now battle right. Eli Eli White the next to hit. [Applause] off the plate inside and that’s ball one. That was absolute gas. Triple digits on the gun. It’s just a different experience as a hitter watching that go by. That one in triple digits. Let’s do it. KC. Two down. Nobody on ball. Two balls. One strike. That one fouled off. Two and two. Two down. Nobody on here in the top half of inning number seven. Strikes him out with 101. And the Braves go down quietly, but they still lead it one- nothing. Now pitching. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Dylan Lee hasn’t pitched in the last three days. Add to the plate for Kansas City. Ready for me. There’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. [Applause] Right through there for a strike. [Applause] and fouled off. Looking to get the tying run on base. Hacks and misses. It’s a strike out. Well, they’ve had a great plan of attack for him tonight. I mean, finding all the holes in his swing and his approach. Just frustrating for him up there. You strike out a guy three times in a game. I think that guy’s got to go back and really study some video with his hitting coach. Figure out how they’re beating him. Make this adjustment really quick because Word will get around the league in a hurry. Kyle Isel digs in now and the first pitch misses for ball one. One ball, no strike. Holding on to a one-run lead here in the bottom of the seventh. [Applause] Tap foul at the plate. [Applause] The one-1 and that one fouled off. One, two now. Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. [Applause] The guy at the plate could recognize slider out of the hand. Didn’t stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception. He knew right away it was an offspe pitch. That one misses. Ball three. [Applause] [Music] And the tying run is on base. Well, a breaking ball in that 32 count kind of tells you that that’s the pitch he has the most confidence in right now. Just couldn’t find the strike zone. One down, runner at first. Here’s the third baseman. throw over to first. If you’re a base runner, you got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get into scoring position. [Applause] Swings and hits one in the air out towards right field. Makes the grab. Nice play after the long run. Two away. Oh, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Here’s the second baseman, Adam Frasier. [Applause] Runner on the goal. Ball misses. Throw save. And the tying run is now in scoring position. You know, having a good lead is so key when you’re stealing bases, even if you’ve got great speed. But if you don’t have great speed, but can get an extended lead and a good jump, you can steal bases on a catcher who can really throw it. That’s a nice job right there. [Applause] So, the tying run at second. Swing and a miss. And now it’s even one and one. Man, he really sells the change up with that arm action. And that is out of play. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] That one not close. The countdown two and two. [Applause] spoils a two- strike pitch. And he’ll see another [Applause] swing and a miss. Struck him out. Slider got him for strike three. Sometimes he wears the emotion on the sleeve, but that’s okay as long as he’s getting results. And right there, thrilled with the punch out to get out of a jam back here in Kansas City. Now it’s the shortstop. Nick Allen. Allen. Heig in his second season, 29 years old, and he was a second round pick back in 2016. Sig back to work and that’s off the outside edge. Ball one. The shorts stop takes the ball. Last couple of pitches breaking balls away. I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count. [Music] Next offering is in for a strike. [Music] Swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. Solo runner aboard to start the inning. Showed some really nice patience in that at bat. Worked himself into a good count. Once you get the ball by the pitcher, there’s a lot of base hits up the middle, even on ground balls. So, a nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit. Back to the top of the order now. Now, batting Juriken Proofar one for three, just missed. You know, these Braves putting together some really good at bats in this game. There’s been a lot to like with how they’re approaching their chances at the plate. The numbers help tell the story. I mean, they’ve been sitting fast ball and it’s paying off in a big way so far with six hits against that pitch alone. Let’s do this. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. Throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. Two consecutive base hits for these guys here. There’s nothing cheap about the way he got that one through the infield. That was ripped. Caught out in front and didn’t get under it like he would have liked, but definitely put a good swing on it. First and second, no outs. And now Matt Olsen up to hit. He’s been really clutch with runners in scoring position this season. So they’ll have to be extra careful in this matchup. And that’s a great way for a lineup to dominate a game because if a pitcher can’t rely on his fast ball to get outs, I mean, that puts a lot of pressure on the rest of his pitches to be effective. And he’ll one ground ball could be two. glove flip to second, back to first, and that is a double play. Really nice double play turn right there. And it all started with that sweet glove flip on the feed to second. You know, these middle infielders, they spend a lot of time honing that glove work so it just becomes like second nature. I think you also have to have a really good glove that’s broken in that’s not too large so that you can have a feel for that baseball and be able to flip it like you’re bare-handed. And that’s downstairs. And it’s one and0. There’s strike. Allen on third with two out. He can do it late on that fast ball. He’s been able to go inside as well as outside, effectively working both sides of the plate in this at bat. [Applause] Two outs. Fouls it off. Still one and two. Strike it out in the dirt. Nice job behind the plate. Sit him down. That’s outside and it’s three and two. Shawn Murphy would be next if they can extend the inning. And he’s homered already, so I’m sure he’d love a chance to do some more damage here. Grinding AB right here. about to see pitch number 10. Got him. He didn’t make it easy for him on the mound, but they still get the strike out. One left for Atlanta, but they hold a one- nothing lead. [Applause] Now pitching for back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Aaron Bummer. And one thing on him, he’s been really good this season at keeping the ball in the park. Not an easy guy to take deep. Well, one more game. Mel Garcia steps in for the Royals. Garcia. Just missed. [Applause] [Applause] Ah. [Applause] And that skips in the dirt. [Music] That pitch gets the corner. Two and two now. Vinnie Pascalino in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. That one misses. So, a lead off walk. Looks like we’ve got a substitution at first. And here’s Kansas City’s pinch runner, Bobby Wit Jr. No outs. Runner at first. Vinnie Pasquantino steps in for the Royals. [Applause] Runner on the go. There’s the ball. Save in second. And he easily steals the bag. [Applause] So the tying run at second. That’s towards center. Makes the grab. Runner tags at second. He’s safe at third and the tying run is 90 ft away. Here’s the left fielder, Salvador Perez. Three pitch strikeout last time up. Got to put up more of a fight in this one. This is all about situational hitting. It’s crucial in this spot. Do whatever it takes to put the ball in play and hopefully you find a gap in the defense. [Applause] There’s a strike. No, he’s really working that inside corner with the cutter. I tell you what, I hated that pitch. So tough to get the barrel to and to keep it fair. There’s the strike. He’s falling behind in a huge spot. Boo. Got to do what it takes to come through. Maybe choke up on the bat a little bit. Spread out those feet. Whatever it takes. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. The tying run is 90 ft away. Next offering popped in the air right field. Drops into the glove. Runner tags for home to the plate. They save. It’s one. There you go. Nice little RBI there. It’s a great at bat. Got the job done. [Applause] And now the DH Jack Kaggle Leone. That one finds the zone. Strike one. [Applause] Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. [Music] [Applause] Two down, base is empty, but one run across here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. And a swing and a miss. That’s the third out. Inning over. So they even it up here as we head for a good finish to this one. Ninth inning coming up. All tied 1-1. Now pitching from back now and on the mound a closer Carlos Estzlos coming on to face a right here and he’s been fantastic against him this year. His numbers in those matchups are very good. Now Shawn Murphy, he’s already homerred in this game. Murphy Yeah, that’s fouled off. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. One, two. [Music] Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. [Applause] And a pop off right side. Foul territory. Puts it away for the owl. The batter number one, second base, Azie Alby. Azie Alb’s up to the plate. Well, both sides equally as strong. So, not a good time to try to turn him around with a relief pitcher and put him on the other side of the plate. And a first pitch fastball is in for a strike. Just amazing to me how many closers and backend relievers just throw absolute gas these days. I never would have had a chance. All tied up. You’re the top of the ninth. [Applause] This to center field. Isbel trying to get to it. Makes the grab on the run. Two down. Nothing instills more confidence in a team than a center fielder who makes a great play like that on the run. They can feed off the energy he brings just from his playmaking abilities. [Applause] Harris in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. Just missed. 1-1 missed with a change up. Two and one. [Applause] Next offering is fouled back. The healthy cut. Tough pitch at 98, but a really good pass at the ball. That’s down and in. Nacho Alvarez Jr. in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. [Applause] Battling here as he fouls it away. [Applause] Two down on and there’s ball four. One of the things about that two out walk, the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. Alvarez in the box now. Takes strike one. There was a high velocity fastball in the zone. I think a little frustration from walking the previous hitter. He’s got good stuff. Pitch inside the zone and trust it. Two outs and pitch in for a strike. And it’s nothing too. Swing and a miss. curve ball in the dirt in time. The two-3 strikeout ends the inning. So, no runs on no hits, no errors, and one left on. 678 scheduled to start the bottom of the night. All tied 1-1 back here at Kaufman Stadium. Now, here is John Rae. [Applause] And a strike in there. Looks like he sacrificed to pitch right down the middle for tracking and timing. Some good hitters will do that. Swinging a chopper. Fires to first on the run. Got in. Nice play. The catcher number 34, Freddy Bernie. Freddy Fine steps in for the Royals. Three strikeouts already. He’s 0 for three. That one outside and that is ball one. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Reel Glacius, the veteran right-hander, appears to be loosening up. Montero, the hardthrowing right-hander up as well. [Applause] Next pitch is downstairs. One down, base is empty. Kyle Isel in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Bomber deals. Pitch is in there and now three and one. Three balls. One strike. [Music] [Applause] Swings. Fouls it off and he breaks his bat. [Music] Ball four. He walked in and that’ll keep the line moving. It looks like it’ll be a pinch hitter. Jonathan India, the winning run on base for him. [Applause] The sweeper catches the outside part of the zone. The one fought off foul [Applause] just off the inside corner. Going to count one and two. That’s a really good take. That one missed. Way to lay off that pitch down [Applause] and that one missing low. Oh, this count. Runner not known for his speed, but I think you got to put him in motion. Try to avoid a double play here. Boo. That one down the line. And that’s just foul. One down. Winning run onto first. Swing and that’s ripped towards right center and that gets down into the gap. Headed to the plate. Across is the winning run. A walk-off win in the bottom of the ninth. [Applause] Well, you’re coming to the ninth inning. It’s a tied ball game. No one really wants to play extras. So, everyone’s looking at how we can get this game over with in regulation. Well, they got the run they needed. Put one up and they put one in the win column. [Applause] And your final score here today, 2-1 for Chris Singleton and our entire crew here at MLB the show. Thanks for stopping by. I’m John Shami. Talk to you soon.
