MLB LIVE🔴 St. Louis Cardinals vs Miami Marlins – Jul 28, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
Hello baseball fans and welcome. We’ve got baseball on the show. It’s the Miami Marlins taking on the St. Louis Cardinals. First pitch coming your way next. All right, just about ready for baseball on the mound for this one. Steven Matz, what do you got on him, Chris? Well, he brings into this one an excellent strikeout to walk ratio on the season. And when you consider the amount of swings and misses that he gets, and the fact that he’s not issuing free passes, that’s going to make him more economical in his pitch count, allow him to move into the middle and deeper part of ball games. So, we’ll see if that remains true in this one. Xavier Edwards leading things off and takes the strike. There’s the swinging a miss. Truth break the other way. Contrarus. He steps on the bag and the first out of the game is an easy one. And time now for the Marlins lineup. And one to watch, of course, their three-hole hitter, Otto Lopez. Yeah, definitely someone I always enjoy, you know, when I get a chance to watch him, whether he’s hitting in a game or even taking swings during batting practice. Man, this guy’s always so focused on what he’s doing on that task at hand. He’s got so much attention to detail that when he steps in the box, his success rate is really high. Jesus Sanchez, batting with one down, takes a strike. This is a hitter who takes his game to another level. Playing at night ball, one strike. Here comes the pitch. Foul ball. One out. Base is empty. Ripped on a line. This one looks like trouble. makes the turn and heads for second. And he’ll pull in there with a stand up double. Well, he found himself behind in the count right there, but he didn’t give in. Nice line drive to the pole side right there, but he didn’t spin off of it. That’s the key. You still have to extend through the baseball in order to hit a line drive like that. One out, runner at second, and the batter will be the shorts stop, Otto Lopez. The change up missing, and it’s one and0. cut out and missed 96 of that fast. One and one runner at second here. One gone. And that misses. Two and one. Just missed. Get ready for some action here. Good RBI guy at the plate. Runners in scoring position and a hitter count. And ball four, two aboard. Batting fourth, left fielder Kyle Sters. First and second, one out. Now here’s the cleanup hitter for Miami, Kyle Sters. Seems like he’s making contact with everything lately. Hitting better than 350 this morning. foul ball. It stays nothing and two. up the middle. Nice stop and he beats it. He’s safe. Still able to come through behind in the count right there. He got that front foot down and pitch recognition was on point. Pretty impressive for an 02 count. So bases loaded with one away. And now Augustine Ramirez hit hard on the ground to the right side down the line and it’s fouled. Sanchez the runner at third. Lopez on second. Sters at first. One gone. fouls it off. Still one and two. Well, he hasn’t gotten the result yet, but he’s got to feel pretty confident. Three foul balls in a row. He’s right on this guy. Ah, ground ball and that’s through the infield. One runs in. The throw home. It’s offline and he scores. And they take a two-run lead. A perfect example right there. That plate discipline, it pays off. The deeper he gets into account, the more comfortable he becomes and he usually wins the battle. Liam Hicks the next up for the Marlins. Swinging a ball hit out towards left center field. nabs it. Runner tagging from third. Throw home. He beats it. And they’re up by three. In that situation, you’re looking to get something up in the zone that you can put in the air. Worst case scenario, a sacrifice fly to drive in that runner from third. Here’s the catcher, Nick Forez. And that one pulled foul. Ground ball left side. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly and no shot to get him at first. There’s two aboard. I think he got a little casual on that play and took it for granted a little bit. So maybe just as much of a mental mistake as a physical one. And with two outs, that’s a tough one to swallow for the entire defense. First and second, two outs. Paulie digs in now, swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. Well, with this many pitches thrown here in this first inning, I mean, you’re giving the other team a really good look. He’s going to have to find a way to get some weak contact, maybe a swing and miss, get into that dugout, and hit the reset button. Next offering is fouled back. 0 and two now. That’s a little bit low. See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading to count one, two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt. Two balls, two strike. And that’s downstairs and outside. Javier Senoha next to hit for the Marlins. gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. Good job to fight that one off. Gets a piece and stays alive. Swinging a foul ball at the plate. They’ll do it again. About to see the 11th pitch of the Abab here. Hard on the ground to first. He takes it on his own. That ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand. Three runs for him here and they move ahead. Bottom half of inning number one coming up. It’s the Marlins three and the Cardinals nothing. Back here in St. Louis, today’s starting pitcher, Sandy Alcantara. Well, you know, this guy wants to be better than that. I mean, the RA is bloated. He understands that he’s got to put his team in a better position to win ball games. And at this point, you have to forget about your own individual stats and you have to go out there and attack and try to get that W. And if you do that, you’ll look up and most likely that erra will have dropped over time. Brendan Donovan, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. Oh, after scoring runs, this is where you’re looking for that shutdown inning. Get that hot team back in there to swing the bats. That drops in for a strike. Slice the other way. That’s a base hit. And the leadoff man aboard. 92 second designated hitter. Ivon. And now it’s Ivon Herrera. Herrera. Missed with a change up. And that’s ball one. Let’s keep it going. And the slider just misses. That one’s in there now. Two and one outside. That’s a ball. and ball four to a boy. Oh, now he’s got two runners on after that walk and things can get out of hand in a hurry in these situations. So, he’s going to have to find a way to get back into the strike zone. Here’s the left fielder, Alec Burlson, and he hits a ground ball right side and it stays fair. Grounds third headed for the plate. He’ll score. It’s an RBI single. It’s 3-1. Picks himself up an RBI. Turned on it nicely. Definitely a little out in front of the pitch, but he didn’t hook around it too much and was able to keep it fair down the line. Wilson Contrarus now up to the plate and fouled off. Herrera on third. Burlson at first with no outs. Oh, that’s off the plate. Strike on the inside corner. Great spot to be in right here for the pitcher. You can either strike this guy out or get a ground ball double play. That one the other way and it’s caught for the out. Now we take a check of the St. Louis Cardinal lineup. Of course, a big piece for them is their DH Ivon Herrera. Well, these days we know teams, you know, they put a game plan together for every hitter in a lineup. a guy like this, they circle him, make sure he doesn’t beat you. Uh so, you know, they put in a little extra time and effort and on how they’re going to approach him. He can be a huge difference maker when he’s hot. So, it’s going to be fun to see how they try to work him right here. That one ripped and it goes just foul. Hicks drifts towards it. He makes the catch and there’s two down. Batting six. The shorts stop. Mason Mason win now at the plate. In the grand scheme of things, this at bat might not feel important because it’s early, but it could create a domino effect for things to come. Control what you can here and have a strong back. And that one is inside ball one. Corners are occupied with two down. Oh, that’s inside. Good spot for the hitter. Definitely has the advantage in this count with runners on. Look for him to be aggressive on this next pitch. Here’s a two outside with a breaking ball. Jordan Walker in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Next offering is in for a strike. Late swing fouled off. 3-2. Two out. Runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch. Fouled off again. And it remains three and two. Runners on first and third. Two away. Swaying in a ball popped in the air and it falls. In comes the run from third and it’s an RBI single. It’s 32. Showed a lot of fight with two strikes in that AB. I don’t know how he was able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it. That pitch was inside and he had to get really deep. So, pretty incredible hands to fight it off and still get good wood on it. First and second, two down. And stepping in for the Cardinals, Jordan Walker in the air out towards left center and that’s the inning. They put two on the board, three hits, no errors, but two are left stranded. It’s on to inning number two in St. Louis. It’s the Marlins three and the Cardinals two. Back here in St. Louis, here’s the rookie third baseman, Javier Senoha. Matts back to work. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. And that is ball one. And another ball. Gary Simmons has the plate duty in this one. Well, with Simmons, it’s not always your standard strike zone. Boog. It kind of gives a little extra in some parts of the zone and then can be tighter in others. But I think the important thing is he doesn’t get labeled as inconsistent. So, you got to stay ready up there. Oh, and a nice sliding stop. gathers and throws and they get the out. Just so impressed with the movement on that play. Footwork was excellent. The arm strength was there and of course the most important part was getting the out. Now it’s the Marlins leadoff hitter. Xavier Edwards 0 for one so far. Close but called a ball. One and0. out to short and it’s through for a hit. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Up next for the Marlins. He kind of rolled over on this pitch a little bit, but he got enough behind it to shoot it through for a knock. And you’ll take that anytime you can get him to find a hole. So, a man at first, Jesus Sanchez, the next up for the Marlins that misses the zone and that’s ball one. Man at first, one away. That one outside and it’s two and 0. Last two pitches have been down in the zone. Pitcher clearly trying to get that ground ball double play, but in this count he’s going to have to give in, elevate his pitches and get back into this at bat. Matts checks over to first and he’s back. Ru takes off. Pitch in for a strike. throw. Oh, save. That’s a stolen base. Still in the second already at 44 pitches. So, some concern there. Outside L and that’s ball three. And ball four to a board. Pretty easy walk right there. Last pitch wasn’t even much to think about. Now batting shortstop Otto Lopez. Two on, one out. Now it’s the shortstop. Otto Lopez. He walked and came around to score his first time up. That one’s in there. 0 and one. When you’re struggling out there on the mound, hitters know that there’ll be plenty of opportunities within the at bat to try to get something to hit hard. Ball one low. Edwards at second. Sanchez over at first. So, one away. Ground ball right side. Could be two. There’s one. Return throw to first. Got him. Double play. And that’ll do it. One hit, one left. Down to the bottom of the second. It’s the Marlins three and the Cardinals two. Back in St. Lewis as the Cardinals come up to hit here in the last of the second. Bottom of the second. And here’s the catcher. Yoel Poso delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. One’s the count. Hit hard on the ground and up the middle. Base hit. Man aboard on the leadoff single. He was all over that one. Once you get the ball by the pitcher, there’s a lot of base hits up the middle, even on ground balls. So, a nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit. Victor Scott will hit next. A change up missing. Ball one. And another ball right through there for a strike. And strike two. Two two now. Fly ball center field Ramirez. And there’s one down. Now batting second baseman Brendan Donovan. And up next for St. Louis, Brendan Donovan. One for one. He let off the bottom of the first with a single. Boo. Here’s someone that loves playing at home, and who can blame him? His numbers are historically better, and he’s already one for one out of the shoot. Donovan goes 6’1, 28 years old, and he was born in Germany. 41. Squirts away a little bit. on the ground right side and that chance handled off Ellen’s feet. There’s one to first. Not in time. Great effort there. Desated hitter Ivon Herrera. Now for St. Louis, Ivon Herrera. The walk and a run scored his first time. And that misses. And that’s ball one. That one missed. Tying run is at first. Bottom half of inning number two. That one fouled off. Two and two. Two outs on the ground to third. Senoha whips it across. That’s the third out. Inning over. The Cards leave one. They trail it 3-2. Back here at Bush Stadium. New inning getting started now. The left fielder, Kyle Sters. for the third and after the first couple of innings pretty rough. I think the skipper is looking for him to give him a little bit of length. See if he can save the bullpen some. Swinging a miss as he was out front that time. Change hook right there. Just pulled the string. Pitch in the dirt and count. One and two. Well, that’s kind of what you expect in an 02 count. Excellent job of the hitter to have the plate disciplined to lay off of that pitch. Next offering misses. Two and two. And there’s a ball and foul ball and a payoff pitch on the ground to first and he takes it himself for the Now now batting number 50. And up next for Miami, Augustine Ramirez. He drove in two with a single. His first time up. Ball one there. Move into the bullpen for the Cardinals. Sunny Gray appears to be getting loose. Ley also throwing. Check swing called strike and he grounds one to the right side and that one handled. Gets it to first. Awesome play there. Now batting first baseman Liam Hicks. Two down, base is empty. And at the plate for Miami, Liam Hicks drove in a run with a sack fly. His first time up. And there’s the strike. Two outs. Base is empty. That’s a base hit. right there. He does a great job of staying in the big part of the field. Man, there are a lot of hits there. Nick Forz getting ready to hit. He’s 0 for one. That pitch in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Chris, through the early stages, he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. Now one and one. It is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now. Doesn’t even matter that much if your starter doesn’t go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens right down to shoot. One and two and that’s in the dirt. Two strikes. Hicks off of first with two away outside. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion. So something in the gap should definitely score it. In there got him looking and that one split the plate. One left for Miami and it remains a 3-2 ball game. And welcome back to the ballpark. Set for the bottom of the third. Now it’s going to be Alec Burlson. Burles. Out towards right center field. Ramirez on his way over. He’s got it. And there’s one away. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He saved extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. Contrarus stands in here, leaves that one off the inside. Gets the call and it’s one and one, man. 91 on the slider right there. That’s a hard one. That’s a lowend fast ball for some pitchers. Swinging a foul straight back. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. And now two balls and two strikes. That one way inside. outside and that is ball four. Now batting third base one gone runner at first. Here’s Nolan Aronado. He’s 0 for one. That one hit to right. Sanchez gets under it, hauls it in. Two away. Now batting shortstop. Mason win. Mason Win next up for the Cardinals. Singled and drove in a run his first time through. in there at the knees. That’s strike one. Man, this guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today. That misses one and one slashes this one and it could be trouble. Contras around second headed for the plate. He’ll score easily. Wasting no time. He’s two for two now on the night and just a triple and home run away from the cycle. Seriously, we’re starting with this already. Jordan Walker next up for the Cardinals. Fly to left his first time. That’s in there. And it’s 0 and one. Swing and a miss. He was late. Strike two. You got to remember to take the donut off the bat, partner. Not close with that one. One and two to count. Runner at second. Two down here in the last half of the third. On the ground to the left and that chance handled. Tosses to first and that’ll keep more runs from coming in. Inning over. Cards on the board with this double. We’re tied now with three a piece. Welcome back. And now on the mound to start the fourth, Sunonny Gray. This guy’s a strike thrower. He’s done an excellent job of avoiding walks so far this season. Sunny Gray. And now here’s the Marlins DH Graham. The ated hitter Graham Paulie. That pitch clips the outside corner strike swing and a high-fly ball left field. Burlson settles under and makes the catch. One up, one down. now got third base. And now for the Marlins, Javier Senoha. First time up, he grounded to third. Right through there for a strike. Oh, and one that one missed. Base is empty. One away. Top half of inning number four. Off the plate inside and it’s two and one. And a foul ball. One down. Base is empty. That’s down and in. swing and a miss. Snuck the fast ball by him. That cutter right there had just enough movement on it to get the swing and miss. Wasn’t a great location by any means. That’s typically a spot that hitters can handle. So, I’d say he fooled him with just enough of that late action. fouls one off out of play. Back to our left. That’s inside and one and one. Rips that one center field. Snags it on the run. And that is that. Nothing doing for the violence. So no change in the score. It’s 3-3. Ready to go. Bottom four. And now the catcher comes up to him. Yoel Po delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. You know, these cards doing a good job of putting the ball into play and that makes things more challenging on the defensive side. They’re hitting everything thrown at them. Their contact rate is in the low 90s. It’s like they know what’s coming and that’s just pretty ridiculous what they’re doing right now. Those numbers are well above the major league average. Line drive and a base hit and a good start to the inning. Digging in, it’s the speedy outfielder Victor Scott 0 for one with a fly out to center. And that one is downstairs. And that is ball one. Runner at first with no outs here. And that one fouled off down the line and it’s foul and a foul ball. He stays alive. Nobody out. Runner at first. Missed with a change up. And that’s ball two. Edwards. Offbalance feed. Here’s one to first. Not in time. Great effort there. Second base, Brendan Donovan. Here’s the second base, Brendan Donovan. Singled and scored back in the first. He’s one for two. Fast for a strike. Not sure exactly what he was thinking there. Good sinker ball pitcher goes with a fast ball in a double play situation when he needs something on the ground. Alcantra over to first. Scott back in on a dive line drive base hit. They’ll throw to third and the throw’s offline. Safe at third. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. You’ll often hear the phrase short to it, long through it. And that’s a great example of it right there. Got the barrel in the hitting zone early. Squared it up with the welltimed swing and came away with a beautiful line drive into center field. Runners of the corners here. One away. Here’s the Cardinal DH. Ivon Herrera. Check swing called strike. Brothers at the corners. One away. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Line drive. Base hit in to score is the runner from third. It’s an RBI single. It’s 43. Well, there you go. The RBI machine. Another clutch run scoring at back. Yeah, he’s been so good in these situations. Call it clutch if you want, but his resume speaks for itself. Here’s the left fielder, Alec Burlson. Swing and a ground ball. Base hit right field. Throw back in. Holds the runner at third. Base is now loaded. Only one away. first swinging. Went up there with a plan to be aggressive. Now the base is loaded. Big opportunity for them to break this game open. Now the Marlins manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. Sandy Alcantur won’t go any further and this is one he’d like to forget. Back with a new arm after this. Now pitching for new pitcher for the Marlins, Valente Beoo. Well, at this point in the ball game, we’re talking about middle innings, and you get a little length out of this arm coming out of the bullpen. We’ll see just how many outs he’s able to give his skipper. And up to hit is Wilson Contrarus. First pitch misses. Counts one and0. Base is loaded. One away. And a swing to miss. really going after him here. All fast balls to get ahead in the count. And that one upstairs situation. He’s trying to get you to pop something up or jam you. That’s a really good take knowing you got an opportunity to drive in a run here. Swing and a miss and he got him. Huge strike out there. Oh, nothing too fancy on the strikeout pitch right there. Just a low 90s fast ball. And I’m not sure he was trying to challenge him, but that’s pretty much what happened. Very hitable location, but he found a way to just get it by him. Here’s Nolan Aronado for two in this one. Swing and a highf fly ball. Pulled foul and that’s out of play. That’s a bullet, but it goes foul. Donovan at third. Herrera over at second. Burlson at first. Two out of the inning. Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. That is the inning. But they pick up one run on the RBI single. It’s now a 43 ball game. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. And we’re back. Ready now for the fifth inning. Now it’s the right fielder Jesus Sanchez. Right fielder Jesus Sanchez. Gray back to work. Late on that fast ball. You know, these Marlins do a good job of simply getting the bat on the ball in this game and the numbers back that up. The numbers tell us they’re averaging more than a hit every inning, and they’ve only struck out twice. So, they keep finding ways to put their bat on the ball. Foul ball. Still a one and two count. Swing and a base hit. just kind of sliced that one into center. Good two- strike hitting right there, Boo. A bit of a lost start for some, so that was nicely done to beat the odds. Good extension on that swing. Took the pitch on the outside part of the plate and drove it up the middle. He let it travel just enough. Now, here is Otto Lopez. Here’s the pitch. Runner on the go in the dirt. Blocked. Blocked by the catcher and he steals second base without a throw. And the tying run is now in scoring position. Tying run in scoring position. And we’re in the top of the fifth. And the pitch is in for a strike. Old two now. He doesn’t get a knock right here. That pitch he just took is going to eat at him for a while. You might not see another pitch like that from a top level guy like this. in the dirt but kept close. Tag save. He’s into third on the wild pitch. Well, that right there can be a tough read as a runner on second to see if the ball’s gotten away enough to move to third. You have to be sure you can make it because you’re already in scoring position. Well, he was sure there and now he’s only 90 ft away from scoring. Runner at third here. Nobody out. The shorts stop takes the ball. Still two and two after the foul ball. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Spoils the two strike pitch and he’ll see another. And it remains two and two. That’s a ball. Tried to attack with a sweeper. These first two hitters really making him work out there. Already 14 pitches this inning. And ball four to a board. Pretty much the last thing you want from your bullpen arms are free passes, especially in spots like this. Make the team earn their way on. So, runners of the corners, nobody out. Here’s the cleanup hitter for Miami. Kyle Stard, one for two. And a first pitch fastball is in for a strike. Big bat right here with an opportunity to do damage. But on the flip side, ground ball, double play, strike out, that could get the inning back under control on the mound. That’s off the mark. And the count is one and one. Hit hard but foul off to the left. misses. It’s two and two. That’s good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it. Had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Augustine Ramirez in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. No outs. Runners at first and third. Foul ball and it remains a full cow. Line drive, base hit in from third is the tying run and it’s an RBI single. It’s 44. Well, that may end up being an at bat we go back to later on when this game is over. Pitch was on the outside. Didn’t go the other way with it, but still a nice job of using the big part of the field to find a hole. No way he hits it that well if he hooks around the baseball there. And the batter now, Augustine Ramirez up and in ball one. check sway. Did he go? No. Good hitters count. The two. That one drifts inside. tied at four and that’ll load the bases. Oh, that sets up a really big at bat in this game. These are the moments when everyone in the stadium gets really locked in. Liam Hicks the next to hit outfield playing pretty shallow. And that’s fouled off. Well, this is a tough situation with the bases loaded, but the healthiest mindset is just try to get outs one hitter at a time. fall off foul. They need a strike out and you need a ball perhaps on the ground for a double play or get yourself a popup something. But you got to make some pitches. But if he can battle now this one’s well hit way back there on its way and out of here. Grand slam. He’ll take a trot around the bases. Home run number five on the season. It’s 84. One big swing and that turns the tables on this one. And when you come to the plate with the bases loaded and you’ve got some pop, you know, it’s hard not to think about the chance to hit a grand slam. And that can be a trap sometimes, but not right here. He seized the opportunity, put a great swing on it, and now they’re working with the lead. Here comes the manager out of the Cardinals dugout, and he’ll make a move to the pan. Sunny Gray will depart. And as he heads for the dugout, we’ll take a quick break. New arm on the mound when we get back. New arm on the mound for the Cardinals. Andre Palante. And we all know about his slider. It’s just filthy, man. And one of the better ones in the game, I’d say. Spin rate’s very high and it just breaks a ton. And up next for Miami, Nick Forez. There’s the strike. Palante, a six-foot righty. He features a fourseam fast ball, a sinker, a slider, and he occasionally uses a curve. And a foul ball. Gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. And that one missing low. Really good take especially with two strikes. fights that one away. Still one and two. And there’s a ball. Two strikes. and down on strikes. He didn’t make it easy for him on the mound, but they still get the strike out. Frustrating end to the at bat for the hitter and I’m sure that’s going to sit on him for a little while. You want to be ready to hit the fast ball. Sometimes you can overthink things and I think that was the case right there. Paulie up for the third time here. Watch as that one miss. Still only one out here in the inning. Next pitch is downstairs. Hit on the ground to short to first and there’s two away. Now batting third baseman Javier. Here’s the third baseman Javier Senoha. And the pitch is outside. Ball one. He swings and fouls one off. Two down to and a pop off right side foul territory and that is that. But they leave their mark on the inning as we get another look at the grand slam. It’s now 84. Major League Baseball is on the show. Bottom of the inning. And stepping in for the Cardinals. Mason Win. Mason Win. Just missed. You know, these Cardinals really impressing me with the quality of their bats in this one. It’s been fun getting a chance to see him go to work. It looked to me like they really wanted to get to the starter early, get him out of the game before he settles in. So, I’d say mission accomplished. Ripped on the ground at second. Sends it to first. And that’s the first out in the bottom of the fifth. Now batting right fielder. And up next for St. Louis, Jordan Walker. Let’s go. This to third. Sedha over to first. Old man for the fifth inning. Moving along. Two quick outs. Now batting number 63. Two outs. Base is empty. And now the Cardinals catcher Yel Po. He’s two for two. Check swing. Did he go? No, he didn’t. 10. Two down, nobody on. Last half of inning number five. On the ground to third. Makes the sliding stop. Throw to first. And that’s a nice play to end the inning. One, two, three. Go the Cardinals. They’re unable to make a dent in an 84 deficit. Back here in St. Lewis all set for the top of the six. Now it’s the Marlins leadoff hitter Xavier Edwards. Off the mark there and it’s one and0 and that’s outside. Next pitch misses way outside. Well, I would expect in this three 0 count, you’re taking all the way. See if he’ll walk you. There’s a strike. Fly ball down the line. Walker grabs it on the run. Oh, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Sanchez at the plate and takes high there. Base is empty, one away and we’re the top half of the sixth. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. Ball two. That clips the corner. Swing and a line drive. Base hit out into center field. So, a man aboard now with one away. And now the shorts stop. Otto Lopez and delivers outside. Edge the zone for a strike and a count. One and one. Sanchez the runner at first with one gone in the inning. Run around to go and that one fouled off. Move to first. He’s good. Got him looking for the strike out. That was pretty nasty. Yeah, that’s a tough pitch to stay on. You don’t want to get beat inside. And as you see that pitch continue to run away from you, by the time it’s in the catcher’s mid, you think it’s a ball off the plate away. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Kyle Sters. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. liner and that should be extra bases. Lead runner around second. Sanchez around third. He will score. Well done. Drives in the run. That pretty much split the zone down the middle and those are the ones where you got to make them pay. So, runner at second, two down. Augustine Ramirez, the next up for the Marlins. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Man on second, two down. Smoked on the ground to second. Handles, throws the first. They limit the damage here. Marlins get a run on the RBI double. It’s now 94. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. back here in St. Louis. And now here is Victor Scott. If there’s nobody on in front of him, you know, a single for him many times is a double. This guy is off to the races, ready to steal a bag when he’s on first base. And now two and nothing. That clips a corner. Well, it looks like he’s wanting to work the upper part of the strike zone. What does that mean? Top hand better be working for the hitters. Adjust that side a little bit. Give yourself a chance to hit. Hit in the air left field. Sters. He’s got it. One down. Now batting second. So the batting order turns over. Now it’s the second baseman Brendan Donovan. St. Louis. First pitch doesn’t find a zone. gets the outside corner with that one. I got a ball, one strike and that is downstairs and it’s two and one. The Fish leading by five here in the bottom of the six. That one misses now three and one. Hard hit right side and he’ll be safe at first. That’s a dangerous throw for the first baseman and try to handle right there. Exposed him to a potential collision and we’ve all seen some of the ugly ones over the years on plays similar to that one. So, it’s great. Nothing came out of that other than the throwing error. Run around at first with one gone. Next is the designated hitter, Ivon Herrera in the dirt in there safely. So a wild pitch allows the runner to advance. Well, that right there erases the chance at the inning ending double play. So good job on the bases to move up on the wild pitch. Changes the outlook of the inning in a pretty big way. One out and a runner at second. That clips the corner. Ball to strike. Swing and a ball popped in the air and that drops foul. man at second and that’s ruled a swing. It’s a strike out. Now the left fielder, Alec Burlson. Alec Burlson. And first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. That one is absolutely bel way back there. Out of here. A gigantic blast and they slice into the lead. It’s 96. That one just sounded different. It might have been the loudest moment yet. Man, my ears are ringing. I can feel that swing from the boot. With a low 90s fast, you have to live on the edges and hit your spot. If you don’t, you’ll get hit hard. Really good swing there. Patient and waited for it. Was like BP all over again. Here comes Wilson Contreras. Way high. drilled out towards left center field. That’s well struck and it gets by him around first and hustling for second and he’ll pull into second with two gone. Everything came together for him. got a fast ball, middle of the plate, jumped all over it, absolutely smoked that ball. And maybe they’ve got something going here. Trying to get back into this one. Man in scoring position with two away. Nolan Aronado next up for the Cardinals. That one finds the zone and that’s strike one. Oh, one, two outs. And there’s a foul ball. chases that one out of the zone. Inning over and it could have been worse. Two runs for St. Louis on this blast. It’s now a 96 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Now pitching. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mouth. Jojo Romero. And one thing on him, he’s been really good this season at keeping the ball in the park. Not an easy guy to take deep. At the plate, Liam Hicks. He’s already homerred in this game. The pitch swinging a ground ball up the middle and they get the leadoff hitter in the seventh. Good armside run to that same side hitter right there. Very difficult to put that ball in the air or get through it. Just bores in on the hands. Here’s the catcher, Nick Forez. 0 for three in this one. Pitch misses. One and0. Next offering popped in the air right field. Two down. Now batting designated two down. Base is empty. And at the plate for Miami, Graham Paulie and first offering is fouled off. Two down. Nobody on. Foul ball there. Two down, nobody on. You’re in the top half of inning number seven. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. Slider misses outside. And now it’s filled up. The only adjustment he needs to make is his target. If you aim at the outside corner, that slider’s going to end up way off the plate. Perhaps look a little more down the middle and you get it right where you want it. Hit hard on the ground to short. Slings it across. That ends the frame. And one, two, three go to Marlins. And they won’t add to their 96 lead. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh, Calvin Foch. And compared to a lot of other relievers, strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year. So the defense should be active. Here’s the shorts stop at the play. Mason win. That one fouled off. Here comes the one popped up. Foul ground first base side. Come on now. And there’s one away. Up next for the Cardinals, right fielder Jordan. Now up for St. Louis. Jordan Walker. Not even close there. And that’s ball one. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Calantrol, the hardth throwing righty is up and loosening. Gibson getting cranked up as well. The Marlins leading by three here in the bottom of the seventh. And another ball. No strike. That’s inside. No strike. And that is in for a strike. And now three and one. Late swing fouled. A that one to first. Takes it himself. Two up, two down. That’s a huge defensive play in the late stages of the game. It might not be the most challenging we’ve seen today, but it needed to be made. That’s helping your team. Yoel Poso, next up for the Cardinals. And that one’s a little bit low. And that is ball one. Hard ground ball. Base knock. So a two out knock keeps the inning alive. Next to hit, Victor Scott. 0 for three with two fly outs and a ground out. And there’s the strike. That misses ball one. Oh, he’s really working him away this at bat. Sometimes take a little bit off velocity. Try to get a roll over something on the ground. Stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield. Swing and a miss and a count. One and two. One ball, two strike. line drive and this might be trouble. Lead runner touches second, headed for third and he boots it. Poso coming home. He’ll score. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Calvin Foscher won’t go any further and he leaves a runner at third. So, we’ll see how the next pitcher deals with that when we get back. Now, pitching for So, the Marlins go with a new arm. Gibson, left-handed batter at the plate, and he’s been excellent in those matchups this year. So, this seems like a calculated move. So, a runner at third, two outs. And here’s the St. Louis leadoff man, Brendan Donovan. That clips the corner. Scott on third with two out and that is out of play. Tying run at the plate. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Off the plate. Ball one. Two outs with a runner at third. Stays alive. Strike three. Got him swinging. That ends the inning and they limit the damage. Well, this guy competes hard. We see the emotion there. I love it. Great job of getting out of the jam. Back here at Bush Stadium, we go to the eighth. Now to third baseman, Javier Senoha. Romero back to work. And that one clips the corner. probably the best one we have seen. Throwing it where he wanted to have a nice tight spin to it and a teaser just off the edge of the plate inside. Almost got him. Swinging a ball hit out towards left center field. makes the grab on the run and a quick out number one. Yeah, that’s a tough play for the infielder ranging back into the outfield. There’s part of him that’s saying, “Hey, where you at? Call me off.” But he stayed focused and made a nice catch right there. Next to hit, Xavier Edwards. Romero, the lefty who lights up the radar gun. He features a sinker, a slider, a change up, and he works in a fourseamer. And downstairs, base is empty, one away, and we’re in the top of the eighth. And another ball. Hey, that one finds the zone and it’s three and two. And that’s ball four. Tried another slider, but it missed the plate. Well, he opted to go with the off speed stuff on that 32 with the bases empty. Close pitch, but now he’s got to work out of the stretch. Man at first with one gone. Jesus Sanchez digs in now. Just missed. And it’s fouled away. Let’s go. Foul ball left side. He’ll see another and a one two. Next offering is outside swing and a miss. Struck him out. Came inside with that two strike fast ball nicely. Just bunched him up on the inside part of the plate. Couldn’t get around on it and catch it out front. Many times if you do, it’s a foul ball. And you know, a lot of pitchers, they really don’t like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter. And when they’ve got them up against the ropes, got to figure out a way to put them away. Did a nice job right there. Lopez in the box here. Lets that one go for a ball. Snap throw to first and he’s back in safely. runner on the move. Pitch is low. Safe at second. And that was not close. Way outside and it’s 3 and 0. Two outs and one in scoring position. So now two on and two outs. A good day for the on base percentage right there. Walk number three. And the free bags keep on coming. You down with OBP boo. First and second, two outs. Kyle Sters the next up for the Marlins. RBI knock for him last time. Now a chance to drive in another run. in there and it’s on one. Looks like he sacrificed to pitch right down the middle for tracking and timing. Some good hitters will do that. Two on, two outs. Swinging a foul out of play. That’s a little bit low. And that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. Got him swinging. Two left on. Last half of the eighth coming up. It’s the Marlins nine and the Cardinals seven. And we’re back ready for the bottom of the eighth. Now it’s the DH. Ivon Herrera. Herrera. First pitch misses. Oh, that’s just out right now. Behind in the count, two balls and no strikes. No free passes. You can’t allow that. There’s the strike of the knees and it’s two and one. And that’s just foul. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. And a swing and a miss. And that’s the first out. Oh, Boo, I’ll tell you when he goes to look at the video of that pitch, he’s going to want to punch himself. That slider had hit me written all over it. And clearly, he just got a little too excited and was out in front. Tell you what, when you get a pitch like that, you cannot miss it. Those have a chance to go a long way. So digging in, Alec Burlson. He’s already homered here in this one. And that’s a little bit high. And that’s ball one. One down. Base is empty. Ball catch inside. the bit behind with that swing. It’s strike one. Well, he came right at him right there. Challenged him with the 200 fast ball. Not sure exactly what he was looking for, but got to imagine that’s a confidence booster on the mound. You’re in that hitter’s head a little bit. You get to this part of the order. Yeah, there’s some pop there, but more likely there are some base hits. So, very important to be patient. Let the pitcher walk you, if you will. Oh, great grab on the dive. It’s there and that’s a great play. Well, he looks so comfortable making that play. Dives, comes up with it and then from one knee like he’s just playing catch with his kid. Nice throw across the diamond at first. Here’s Contraras now. Off the mark there and it’s one and0. Lefty continues to work, but the closer getting loose in the bullpen. That one’s in there and the count one at one. Well, he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there. Couldn’t pull the trigger. And perhaps the best pitch you’ll see in this at bat to hit him. One ball, two straight And that skips in and now it’s filled up. Nolan Aronado waiting in the on deck circle. They can get him up. He’d represent the tying run. So critical pitch right here. Two outs. swing and that ball smashed on the line and that’s a base hit. The first move felt like a bit of a guess. You have to be right in those spots or things can get away from you awfully quickly. Now the Marlins manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. Kane Gibson departs two-run ball game as he heads for the dugout and we’ll be back with a new pitcher. So they turn to their closer, Ronnie Enriquez. He’s got some of the best swing and miss stuff going right now. He’s striking out hitters at a very high rate this year. So this should be fun to watch. So two down. Nolan Aronado now at the plate. and takes low for ball one. 10 out with the tying run at the plate here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. Next offering is down low. The tying run at the plate and another ball. This is a really good feeling for a hitter at this point in the ball game. You know that they don’t want to walk you. So, you’re going to get a pitch to hit. You just better not miss it. Tying run at the plate and that one fouled off. And the tying run is on base. Walks out of the bullpin. Can absolutely kill your momentum very quickly. They’re in some hot water trying to protect this lead. Making a move at first. And here’s the pinch runner Garrett Hamson. So two on with two away. Now here is Mason Win. breaking ball through there for a strike. Dangerous spot for that slider right there. Didn’t seem to quite finish out front and get that sharp break. Tell you what, he doesn’t want to throw that pitch again. And that’s through there for a strike and it’s 0 and two. And a bat like this is almost over as it begins. In this situation, you have no idea what the next pitch is going to be. You just got to hope that you can make contact. Got him looking. Inning over. He’s in a tough spot. Had to make a great pitch. Did it. Got the strike out. Get inside of the jam. Clearly, he’s happy with those results. We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound. Phil M. The offense will need to be ready for the breaking stuff. He’s got a great curveball. Phil M. And now for the Marlins. Augustine Ramirez number 15. And first offering is fouled off and ball one movement in the bullpen. Kyle Ley getting ready to go. That one misses. Two and one. Two balls, one strike. Right through there for a strike. keeps the bat going with a foul ball. Ground ball up the middle. Oh, he gloves it. Throws from the seat of his pants on the money. Nice play. What an acrobatic play right there. Knocks it down. throws from the seat of his pants and just looks like he’s playing in the backyard. He makes it look really easy. So, up next, Liam Hicks. Fast ball for a strike. 0 and one. 0 and one. One down. Base is empty. Inside corner for a strike. And the count is 0 and two. That one missing inside. Highf fly ball right field. Walker corrals it and there’s two away. Now batting catcher Nick. Now the catcher up to hit Nick Forez. That one catches the zone and that is strike one. Base hit. That was smoke through the infield. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. It’s been a rough one for him so far at the plate, but that’ll help. I really like that swing, man. He didn’t just push it the other way through the infield. He drove it that way. And it kind of makes me think he was thinking opposite field as he stepped into the box, got a pitch he liked, and he got it done. Paulie in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. Forez leads off first with two down to the inning. Makes the play and it’s out number three. No runs, one hit, no errors and a man left. Bottom part of the order. 789. Two up in inning number nine. It’s the Marlins nine and the Cardinals seven. And welcome back to the ballpark. We head to the bottom of the ninth. And stepping in for the Cardinals, Jordan Walker. Walker. Pitches in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Chopped to first. He steps on the bag. One up, one down. Couple of pitches and a quick out. Now batting number 63. He’s two outs away. Poso will hit next. Pitch misses. Ball one. The Fish trying to close out a two-run lead. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. Next offering is in for a strike. And a swing and a miss. Clearly he was sitting on a fast ball right there and just ended up out in front of the slider. Hey, you can’t fault him for his commitment. Now he’s just going to have to battle with two strikes. Fouls it off. Still one and two. Swings through it for the K. Cardinals now with just one out remaining. Well, that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count. And as a pitcher, it really allows you to start expanding the zone. hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide and what happens is because of the pressure you end up committing to a pitch. This one smoked out to left and he’s got it. Ball game and the Marlins slug their way to a win in this one. Well, we saw both teams come ready to swing it in this one and they found a lot of success. Couple of touchdowns up on the board today. Pretty amazing and it turned out to be a close one considering all the runs put up. really wild.
