MLB LIVE🔴 Seattle Mariners vs Oakland Athletics – Jul 28, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

And welcome in everybody. Glad you’re with us. An AL West matchup on the show. It’s the Seattle Mariners taking on the Athletics. First pitch coming at you right after the break. And now, please welcome your Athletics All right, just about set to go. So, here’s the lefty JP Sears. Well, he’s been a very dependable starter for his club. And what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him. And it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball. Maybe it’s the release point. Maybe it’s the motion. But just some way, somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side. JP Crawford leading things off and takes a strike. Highf fly ball out to left field on Duhar makes the catch for the out and there’s one down and now we check out the Mariners lineup. This group was shut out their last game so we’re going to see if they can bounce back with a better effort here today. And Boo, it can get in your head a little bit when you get shut out. You’re frustrated. you’re seeing that consecutive streak of innings you haven’t scored and you want to get off to a great start. Score early because if you don’t, you feel like it could linger into two consecutive games which no one wants to be a part of and first offering is fouled off. The Mariners knew what they had. Signed him in July of 2017 for a little under $2 million when Rodriguez was just 16 years old out of the Dominican Republic. pulls it down and there’s two gone. Batty third. Left fielder Randy A. Rosarena. Two outs, space is empty. Randy or Rosarena up next for the Mariners. Ground ball to the right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Mariners are down in order and the A’s will get their first opportunity in a scoreless ball game. You’re dialed into the show. Back here with my pal Singi and today’s starting pitcher, Luis Castillo. And Singi, we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. I’ve just been so impressed with when it seems like there’s more pressure, he’s more calm and settles in. He’s done an incredible job with runners in scoring position. Most guys, they get a little tight, they start to aim the baseball, but for some reason he gets looser, the ball comes out of his hand with more life, and he’s able to wiggle off the hook of, you know, tough situations and get his team back in the dugout. And time now to check out the A’s lineup. Singing. This righty heavy lineup is a bit unusual against a right-handed pitcher. Yeah, Boo certainly bucks the old conventional wisdom and I’m not sure I see the vision from the manager on this one. You’re not exactly putting your players in the best situation to succeed. When you roll out a lineup like this, maybe they’ve seen something on video that tells them there’s a weakness to exploit. Perhaps that’s it. Brent Rooker in now takes ball one off the plate. down the inside corner for a strike. That one finds the zone. Now he’s in a one-two hole. Fouled off. And they’ll do it again. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Next pitch is outside now. Two and two. And that’s down and away. On the ground to third and there are two outs. Batting third. First baseman Nick Curts. And now Nick Curts. Put that 600 slugging into context. The league average usually in the low 400s. That one pushed to the left and fouled. Two out. Base is empty. At 96. That pitch is in for a strike. Ball one there. Two strikes. And a fast ball misses outside for a ball. And it’s two and two. And it’s a strike out from La Pedra, his second of the game. And one, two, three go the A’s. Scoreless after one. And we’re back. Second inning set to go. The batter now Jorge Polanco. Sears back to work. And that’s downstairs. One and0. Get out of here. Base hit center field. Solo runner aboard to start the inning. I can watch base hits like that one all day long and so could every hitting coach in the league. Just a nice line drive into center field. Lukeley getting ready to hit and a first pitch fast is in for a strike. Really bats left, throws right, hitting fifth in today’s lineup. And they went out and made a trade for him last season. Now it’s turn swinging a foul straight back and a pitch. One ball squirts away a little bit. Next offering is downstairs. He’s trying to stay down in the zone, but the hitter just will not chase. Now back in a two- two count, he’s going to have to go to something else to get him out. Strike him out. Foul ball. Another 22 upcoming healthful. Eighth pitch of the at coming up. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. Throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. Two consecutive base hits for this team. Really good swing right there. He got a pitch that he knew he could handle. Allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. Runner in scoring position now and a good opportunity to push across the first run of the ball game. Mitch Garver up to hit here late on that fast ball. All in one. Next pitch is outside. Mike Filillmore, our played umpire, very consistent with his zone. Chris, gets a lot of praise for that. He does, Boo. And I think that with any umpire, you really just want them to be consistent. Filillmore is a guy that does a good job back there in that way. So, people around the league really appreciate his consistency. Hit in the air out to center field. Squeezes it and that is a big first out. That’s a really nice play ranging back into the outfield for that catch. We all know those can be a little tricky, especially if the wind swirling around out there. And now for Seattle, Dominic Panzone. Keep an eye on this at bat because even though it’s early, it could change the outcome of this game. Look for your pitch and attack it. And that one fouled off. Fast ball for a strike. Don’t play situation here. He’s been working up in the zone. Typically, you look for guys to get that ground ball. See if he adjusts on this next pitch. Two on, one out. That one inside. Look out. No score here in the second. And now it’s even up. We got a full count. Ben Williamson in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Hit on the ground. Might be two off balance feet. There’s one to first. Not in time. Great effort there. Third baseman Ben Williamson. Ben Williamson up next for the Mariners. This bat might not seem like a huge deal right now, but baseball is a game of moments and what happens here could change everything and that’s fouled off. That misses the zone. And now it’s even one and one. That one is absolutely belted and it’s a one hopper off the wall. Should be extra bases around third. Tag and he’s out at the play. That ends the inning, but they do score a run here. So, it’s one run on three hits, no errors, and one left on. We go to the bottom of inning number two. It’s the Mariners one and the A’s nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. And now the DH Sha Langers. And that one is downstairs. And that is ball one. and misses inside right now. Behind in the count, two balls and no strikes. No free passes. You can’t allow that. Just miss. And there’s ball four. And that’s how they get their first base runner of the game. It’s tough after falling behind a hitter or two balls and no strikes, but now at least he gets a fresh start against a new batter. But he needs to get back into the strike zone and start pitching with conviction. fouled off. He was late. Next offering is in for a strike with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. And there’s a ball. O2 fast ball way out of the zone. I think he’s trying to speed him off. Got to stay back. Off speed’s probably coming. Tapped softly on the ground. Quickly to second for one. Relay to first. Double play. They made that double play look so easy, but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big leers. They make tough plays look simple. And here’s the rookie center fielder. That is upstairs for ball one. Two down. Nobody on. Swing and a ground ball out to short. Crawford whips it to first on the run. What a play. Inning over. Nothing doing here this half. We head on now to the top of the third. It’s the Mariners one and the A’s nothing. All set for the start of the inning. The batter down. Young, baby, and a strike on the outside edge. Swinging at a high fly ball left field on Duhar pulls that one down and there’s one away. Back to the top of the Seattle order. Here’s the Mariners leadoff man, JP Crawford. Fly to left his first time. To the right side, steps out first for the out. Now batting the center fielder, Julio Rodriguez. Two down, base is empty. And now it’s Julio Rodriguez. He popped out his first time. and downstairs. Hit on the ground up the middle. That’s a base hit and that keeps the inning going. Showed some really nice patience in that at bat. worked himself into a good count. Wasn’t able to elevate that one, but he sure hit it hard enough to get through the infield. There’s not a whole lot of time for the defenders to react and try to make a play when it’s ripped like that. In the air, right field, and that’ll fall for a base hit and out to a board. Now batting designated hitter Jorge Palano. Next is the DH, a switch hitter Jorge Palano. One for one with a single so far. And a fast ball in there for a strike at 91. Lefty out of the stretch. Runners at first and third. In for a strike and now just one pitch away from surviving the inning. swing and a high-fly ball. That one out towards left center field way back there onto the track and he makes the catch. Mariners leave a couple but they lead it one to nothing. Ready to go for the last half of the inning. And now the veteran third baseman, Gio Urella. Gio Urella. Fast for a strike. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. Swang and a ball lifted in the air. Rodriguez settles under it. Going up, one down. Batting eight, catcher Austin wins. Now Austin wins. Good power. Not great in the OBP department. That one out to right and it gets into the seats. Foul tip into the mid. Struck him out. Gosh, here it is. Hit it. Three pitch strikeout. All fast balls. Man, he’s got a lot of confidence in that pitch right now. Here’s Luis Oas. First pitch just misses. Two outs. There’s the strike. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. And a swing and a miss. Down on strikes. And a nice inning of work there as he sets him down. One, two, three. Nothing doing there for the A’s. They trail here one- nothing. And we’re back. And here’s the first baseman. Luke just missed. Let’s go. He had a foul ball. Let’s go to baby. Let’s go. That one clubbed out towards left center. That’ll be extra bases around first. Heading for two in safely. It’s a double and his second hit. Wasting no time. He’s two for two now on the night and just a triple and home run away from the cycle. Seriously, we’re starting with this already. And here’s the catcher. Mitch Garver 0 for one with a fly out. Swings through that one for strike one. 01’s the count. runner. Here’s the pitch. Runner breaks for third. There’s a ball. Throw to third. Save. Next offering is in for a strike. The lone runner stands at third with no outs. That misses and the count is even. Two and two. Fouled off the plate. They’ll do it again. Here’s a two- two the other way. And foul ball. Still two and two after the foul ball. into left center for a base hit. Runner from third comes across. It’s an RBI single and they lead by two. Comes through with the RBI. Nice line drive outside. Met it out front but just stayed through it nice enough and ripped it into the outfield. So digging in, Dominic can zone 0 for one. He hit into a fieldielder’s choice his first time. That’s in for a strike. Well, these Mariners doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. They’re doing a good job of working the pitch count, and they’ve been able to push a couple of runs across to score as well. Just missed. Still relatively early, but with a pair of runs already on the board, the ripple effect of that high pitch count might set him up to do more damage later in this game. Hit in the air center field. And he makes the catch. And there’s one down. Now batting third baseman Ben Williamson. And stepping in for the Mariners, Ben Williamson. He doubled home a run in his first AB strike to the outside corner. 4 and one. Swinging a foul straight back. man at first. One away. Line to left. Fair ball. Garber on his way to third. In safely with a double, his second of the day. Couple of hits in a row for him here. You can’t do much better than that on a pitch that far outside of the strike zone. Got him to chase on the two strike count, but he wasn’t fooled. He hit that ball really well. So, two in scoring position with one out. And up next for Seattle, Cole Young. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Traffic on the bases with one already in top half of inning number four. Next pitch is downstairs. Action in the pen down there. Jacob Lopez the left-hander up and throwing. Nukem also getting ready. top of the zone and it’s called a strike. So far all we’ve seen in this battle are fast balls. Look for him to slow it down right here ahead in the count in the air left field down the line and there are two outs. Now batting shortstop JP Crawford. So the lineup flips over. JP Crawford gets a chance to hit. Go for two in this one. Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. Second and third, two down. Went with the sweeper, but it misses. That one catches the corner for a strike. Well, I know we’re getting out to an early lead, but you don’t want to take these opportunities for granted with two outs. Still lock in with a quality at bat. Drive in that run. You may not have another runner in scoring position the rest of this ball game. Two outs, two in scoring position. Brew. This guy’s a fun guy to watch taken at bat. He just battles up there. He doesn’t take a pitch off at all. Makes it so difficult on the pitchers out there. You could tell they get frustrated with how long it takes to put him away. That’s a ball. Went with the sweeper. Oh, he’s not afraid to fall into a two- strike count. Knows the strike zone very well. So much so that I think umpires will look at him and determine whether it’s a ball or strike if he swings or not. struck him out looking. They get a run on three hits, no errors, and two men left on for Midway in the fourth. It’s the Mariners two and the A’s nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Bottom four now. Here’s the leadoff hitter for the A’s, Jacob Wilson. He’s kind of an outlier, especially when guys are consciously sacrificing contact to deliver power. Fast ball in for a strike and it’s 0 and one. Yeah, his swing is so good. It’s in the zone a long time. He gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits. And a big swing and a miss. When you look at the elite teams in a game right now, there is going to be the slug. No question about it. But the really good offensive teams combined slug with more contact with less swing and miss. Yeah. And the domino effect of that is running up pitch counts on pitchers and then either getting them to a place of fatigue or getting into the bullpen perhaps before you get to those higher leverage arms at the back end. Battling here as he fouls it away. One of the things that Jim Leland used to say when I was broadcasting with the Marlins, the longer a plate appearance goes for a batter, the more likely it is that something good will happen for a hitter. And a base hit. So, a man on base to start the inning. Love how he became a really tough out with two strikes right there. Fast ball pretty much middle middle and that’s what you fall asleep dreaming about as a hitter. So, no surprise he put a great swing on it. Brent Rooker up next for the A’s. Grounded out his first time. Just missed. 10. Well, here’s a good opportunity in this inning to get on the scoreboard after that leadoff hit. And hardly order coming up right behind them. This is where they need to get going. Falloff foul. Pretty good pitch to take a pass at a one count. just not able to square it up on the ground left side. Six four out three and they turn the double play. Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. First baseman Nick Curts. Nick Curts up next for the A’s. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Next offering is fouled back. Two down. Dolman on. Soft contact in the air. He’s got it. And that is out number three. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. Onto the top of the fifth we go. It’s the Mariners two and the A’s nothing. So up next, Julio Rodriguez. Centerielder Julio Rodriguez. Let’s go, baby. Let’s go. Sears back to work. And first off is fouled off. Well, these Mariners doing a good job of putting the ball into play and that makes things more challenging on the defensive side. One thing that really stands out to me is how they’ve only struck out one time. That’s good discipline right there. And on top of it, they’re producing more than a hit per inning. The O2 gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. All those numbers mean this offense is really making the defense work by just putting the ball into play. Anything can happen at that point. Next one in the dirt. Fights it off. You’ll see another sat down on strikes, went back to the change up and it was successful. Now Daddy leftielder. Now it’s Randy Rosarena. One for two. On the ground and that squirts through. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Well, clearly he was ready to hit right there. Tied in on the swing was good. Able to shoot the ball up the middle. didn’t square it up as much as he probably would have liked, but that’s a good approach paying off. Man at first. Jorge Palano the next to hit right through there for a strike. A Rosena the base runner at first with one out. That one fouled off. caught it looking for the K. Well, just couldn’t pull the trigger on the fast ball right there. And I don’t think he was taking it, thinking it might be a cold ball or anything. I just think he was flat out frozen. Did not expect that location in my opinion. Now, snap throw to first. The Rosena dives back. First offering. Runner goes. Pitch is high. Safe at second. And he easily steals the bag. late on that fast ball. Threw that fast ball right by him. Slightly elevated. That’s a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound. See if he continues to climb the ladder. Runner at second. Two down and we’re in the top of the fifth. on the ground out to short and the inning is over. So no runs here in a base hit, no errors and one left. Home half of the fifth. Coming up, it’s the Mariners two and the A’s nothing. We head to the bottom of the fifth. Now it’s the DH Shay Landers. J Langalers. Langalers measures 6 feet even 205 lbs and he’s usually a catcher. Today he gets off his legs a bit. He’s the DH. Check swing called strike and it’s 0 and two. Well, I really like when a guy gets a break like that. He still gets to stay involved in the game instead of starting behind the dish. Gets to hit, gets to rest a little bit, gets to watch the game from a different perspective. Go, baby. Let’s go. Spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another baby. Let’s go. Got him. He’s notched four strikeouts now. Here’s Miguel and Duhar for one so far. Miguel Anduhar. That’s through there for a strike. Felt impressed that he went right after him on that first pitch. That’s the key. Try to get ahead in the count. Then you can play around a little bit more as the at bat expands. That one the other way. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And there’s two down. Now batting the center fielder. Here’s the center fielder. Grounded out his first time. A little bit high. Ball one. And there’s a strike. Good heater at 98. Two down, nobody on. Last half of inning number five. Next one is off the play. Two and one. And that one sliced fouled. Popped up to the left into foul ground. Williamson makes the catch and that’ll do it. A’s go quickly and quietly there. They’re still down. It’s two zip. Now pitching. So they turn things over to the righty Elvis Alvarado. Pretty tight game. So they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. Now the Mariners catcher catcher Mitch Garver. And the first offering a fast ball for a strike right through there for a strike. swing and he breaks his bat. Curts and he handles it himself for the out. Good late life on that inside fast ball. Ran in on the hands and got that weak contact. Little slow grounder to get the out. And now Dominic can zone. And first offering is fouled off. You got it. Nope. The A’s bullpen has some movement. Jacob Lopez up and loosening in the pen. So a foul ball makes it one and two. One out. Base is empty. Just misses the mark outside the zone. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Swang and a miss. Struck him out. Two quick outs to open the top of the six. He came out of his mechanics there. Typically likes to shoot the ball the other way, but that time little anxious. Two outs. Base is empty. Ben Williamson up next for the Mariners. And a foul ball. Two outs. Fast ball for a strike. Foul ball still 0 and two. And ball one. swinging a highf fly ball out there towards left field. Makes the grab and that’s the inning. No runs, no hits, no errors. 789 two up in the home half of the inning. It’s the Mariners two and the A’s nothing. And we’re back. Well, we go bottom six. Here’s Gio. Third base. Gio Ur. Outside corner for a strike. He’s pitching well, but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes. Usually doesn’t work out for success, but you can never predict baseball. You know, these athletics, as this game goes on, have to be more disciplined at the plate. They’re chasing a lot of pitches outside the zone and those chases are turning into a bunch of outs. Can they turn that around and stay within the zone? We’ll see. But I think they have to. He’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air. Lets the defense work behind it with another ground ball. Good execution. And now the catcher comes up to him. Austin wins. His first at bat was a strikeout. Well, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. And that one hammered high bounce over the fence for an automatic double. Well, there’s something really nice about getting yourself an automatic double like that. You get to stroll into second base without having to worry about a throw or getting your uniform dirty. And now you’re just looking for the next hitter to kind of do the same thing. Maybe put one in the gap so you can jog home as well. One out, runner at second. Here’s the second baseman, Luis Rias on the corner for a strike. It’s 0 and one. And that one clips the corner. Well, he didn’t like those first two pitches. Now in an 02 hole, he’s going to have to battle. Hope he gets a mistake with the tying run at the plate here in the bottom of the six. Swings through it and that’s a strike out. Now batting down, Jacob Wilson now at the plate. Wilson having a really nice first season in the big leagues. Definitely a rookie of the year candidate. And that’s in for a strike. Swinging a foul out of play. Well, he knows they don’t want to give him anything to hit, but when you’ve got opportunities to drive in runs, you’ve got to expand the zone. He’s capable of going out there and doing damage with it. wins at second with two down. Good eye on that spot. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. So he picks up his sixth strike out of the ball game. Make it six shut out innings for him out there. Now it’s the Mariners two and the A’s nothing. Now pitching for Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, Jacob Lopez. This southpaw’s been really good against left-handed hitters. Now it’s the second base, Cole Young. Second base. Surprised we don’t see a pinch hitter here, but the lefty lefty matchup. Yeah, that’s too high. Close pitch there and he’s kind of wondering where it missed. You know, getting a feel for each umpire strike zone is something that pitchers and hitters really have to think about and work on from game to game and sometimes from at bat to at bat towards first. The flip to the pitcher covering and the lead off intercept down to open the seventh. Now that short stop JP Crawford JP Crawford will hit next 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. Pitch misses outside. Ball one. The shorts stop takes a ball. Two and0. That one’s spoiled. And the count now two and one. One down. Base is empty. He swings and fouls one off. You got this. Chop back up the middle and two away to start the seven. Now batting the center fielder, Julio Rodriguez. Julio Rodriguez. Up next for the Mariners, one for three. Misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. Two down, nobody on here in the top half of inning number seven. And a swing and a miss there. I got a ball, one strike. Close one. Doesn’t get the call and it’s two and one. One strike in the air left field down the line and it looks like trouble. Now he’ll turn for second and that’s a two bagger. A late jump and I think that was the difference on the play. Boo. It’s not always easy seeing the ball off the bat. Something here’s the left fielder Randy Roserena. That’s a little high and it’s one and0. Man on second. Two down. Ball two. Two balls. No strike. Line drive and foul ball. Runner at second. Two down. Swing and a miss. Just a little too quick on that front shoulder, front hip, front foot. Everything comes open. No way of making contact with that one. In the air, right field. Fair ball. Run comes in from second and they take a threerun lead. It’s a double. Third hit of the night for him. Now batting designated hitter Jorge Kolano. Jorge Palano up next for the Mariners. Pitch misses inside. One and0. And another ball. When the skipper calls down to the bullpen, he’s expecting the guy to come in and get outs. So far, not getting what he was hoping for. Two and0 to Cal. Here it comes. Right through there for a strike. Next offering is fouled back. Two outs and one in scoring position. Swing and a miss. And that is that RBI double for the M. It’s now 3 nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. set for the last half of the seventh. Now at the plate, Brent Rooker. The A’s in striking distance, but have some work to do. Boo. It starts with the laid-off man. I need a good at bat out of him right here. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Action in the bullpen for Seattle. Casey Legumina up and throwing. Spire the lefty warming up as well. Swing and a miss. There’s that change up. This lineup is having a tough time finding a good rhythm at the plate. Their swings are disjointed, which tells me they’re having issues with pitch recognition. Pretty easy to give up on that pitch right there. Started on the edge of the plate with the spin. You know it’s going to finish well off the plate. fouls one off. Two and two. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. Fans another. And that’s three straight strikeouts. went right after him with that two strike pitch as he continues to roll on the mound. Yeah, he’s not out there trying to nibble at all. He is attacking in the strike zone. And I think when your confidence builds as the start goes on, still putting up all zeros on the scoreboard gives you a lot of confidence that you can really continue to go after these hitters. And that wasn’t the best pitch for the strike out there. And he probably admit that, but he got it by him. Hooks it away for the out. And that quickly two away. Up next for the A’s. And next will be the cleanup hitter Shay Langelers. He is struck out and he is walked. Pulls that one foul. The Athletics trailing by three here. The bottom of the seventh. Highfly ball on that one. curling foul down the right side. Well, he gave up on that pitch early and it ended up staying in the zone. I’m sure he’s kicking himself and would like that pitch again. Good job to fight that one off. That’s a ball. Well, as good as things can be, it can be a tough day at the office. It’s even for the skippers. Seeing the offense just sputter. Not able to get anything going. That’s off the inside corner. Two and two. And a foul ball. He stays alive. Ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. And that keeps the inning alive. Now batting left field. And here is Miguel Anduh swaying a ball popped in the air and it’s foul. Langelers the runner at first with two gone. Check swing and he went. That’s strike two. No walls, two strikes, baby. To the right side. It’s in and out of his glove, but they get the out at first. And that’ll do it for the inning. The A’s strand one. They trail it here. Three nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Ready to begin the eighth. Stepping in Luke. Lopez back to work. And that misses. And that’s ball one. And another ball that’s inside that one misses. So, a lead off walk. Looked like a questionable call in that spot. He even seemed a little surprised they went his way at the plate. But as a hitter, you’ll take that all day. Man at first, nobody out. And now Mitch Garver. First pitch misses. The Athletics have some bullpen action. Shawn Nukem, the left-handed reliever, appears to be getting loose. Sterner, the right-hander, loosening up as well. fast ball for a strike. There’s the swinging a miss. One ball, two strikes inside. Two balls, two strikes. Runner at first with no outs here. That’s the third and foul ball. Swing and a miss for the strike out. Went back to the fast and it was effective. You usually are going to see that outside fast a little longer coming in from the opposite side, but that pitch really got in on him right there. I mean, that’s a wellthrown pitch. Tough to do anything with that in terms of getting the hands through and the sweet spot of the bat to the baseball. Can zone stands in now. Looks at that one inside. Let’s go to baby. Let’s go. Foul ball. Foul ball there. Foul ball still a one and two count. Gets a piece and stays alive. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Came inside with that two strike fast ball nicely and just bunched him off on the inside part of the plate. Couldn’t get around on it and catch it out front. Many times if you do, it’s a foul ball. And you know, a lot of pitchers, they really don’t like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter. And when they’ve got him up against the ropes, got to figure out a way to put them away. Did a nice job right there. Come on. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Runner on the go. Pitch misses. Throw to second out there and the inning is over. The catcher definitely ready for that stolen base attempt. got in position quickly and a strike down to second base to end the inning. Now pitching for back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Casey Leino. Well, he’s been a bit of a wild card out there in terms of throwing strikes. He’s definitely struggled with free passes this year. Kobe Thomas, baby. Let’s go to third. Williamson. The throw to first and that’s one away as the leadoff man is out in the eighth. That play won’t be trending on social media later on, but it’s still important to execute it to perfection. This game is a lot harder than it looks. Partner Giorella steps in. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Got to keep things airtight defensively right here. On your toes, ready to make a play. If you can get this to the ninth with a three-run lead, it should be a W. There’s a strike. Pitching has been pretty dominant in this one. But you got to be careful. Not working with too big a lead. They could get right back in this ball game if you’re not careful. Swings through that one. One ball, two strikes. Swang and a miss. Struck him out. That’s the second out. Now batting. Here’s the catcher to hit. Austin wins. Wins. Legumina 27 years old and he was drafted in the eighth round back in 2019. First pitch and that’s in for a strike. breaking ball misses down and away. The M’s leading by three here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. Swing and a miss and he got him to chase. Oh, no fair right there. I mean, that slider didn’t move till the very last moment. Incredibly difficult to pick that up. Just kind of have to tip your cap on that pitch. swing and a high-fly ball ragged field. Kenzone pulls it down and that’ll do it. Now pitching. We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound, Ben Bowden. And he comes on here for the first time this season. And I’m sure there’s some nerves involved in that. So, we’ll see how he settles in. Ben Williams digs in now. Third baseman Ben Williamson. And there’s a foul ball. And it’s fouled away. Next one is off the plate and the count is one and two. And that one missing inside. A sharp slider. Base hit left center field and the leadoff man aboard. Now batting second base. And here is Cole Young 0 for three in this one. And first offering is fouled off. Williamson gets his lead at first with nobody out. Swing and a miss. Strike it out on a splitter. First strike out for him in this one. net is maybe the goto pitch when he’s looking for a swing and miss like that. He throws it quite a bit and that’s a good example of the effect it can have on a hitter. Crawford in the box now. No balls in a strike. the 01 and that one lifted in the air center field. He’s got it and there’s two away. adding the center fielder, Julio Rodriguez. So, a man aboard and now Julio Rodriguez. Step off throw to first and he’s back in on a dive. Ball. One ball, one strike. And that one fouled off in the air out to center and it falls. And now first and second with two outs. Now batting left fielder Randy. Now the leftielder Randy or Rosarena. First pitch and he just misses. Two on, two outs. out to short. Wilson fires to first on the run and very nicely done for the out. No runs on two hits, no errors and two men left stranded and 912 scheduled to lead off the bottom of the ninth. It’s the Mariners three and the A’s nothing. Welcome back. And here comes the closer Andres Munoz. Well, he’s the guy they hope to turn to out of the pin to lock down wins. So, this game has gone to plan more or less. Let’s see if he can wrap it up here. So, digging in, Luis, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. Misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. So, two balls and no strikes. Struggled a little bit in this one. Couple of strikeouts earlier, but doing a much better job in this at bat to get ahead and find a good hitter’s count at 2 and 0. Next one misses. They’re now 3 and 0. Well, I would expect in this three-0 count, you’re taking all the way. See if they’ll walk you. That one misses. So, a lead off walk. They all just came apart right there. Four pitch walk and guy at the plate was not going to help him out by swinging at something out of his own. So back to the top of the order, Jacob Wilson up next for the A’s. Well, the laid off man gets on. You want to minimize the threat by playing sound defense. Hopefully the pitcher can get a ball on the ground and they can roll him up for two. And that drops in for a strike. Nobody out. Runner at first. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. That front door slider such a devastating pitch. You don’t want to get beat by the inside fast ball. So you cheat a little bit and then by the time it gets there, it’s out of the swing plane. Got him looking and one gone. He’s two outs away. Brent Rooker the next to hit 0 for three with two ground outs and a strike out. close but called a ball. Ball one. Good spot there, but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone to short. Could be two. Crawford toss to second on the first. Got him. And it’s a double play to end it. A little sigh of relief for the pitcher there, ending the ball game with a nice double play. You always love when you can get two for one, especially when it wraps up the ball game. Nice win for this team today. A shut out in this one. Three nothing our final score for Chris Singleton and our entire crew. I’m John Shambi saying so long.
