MLB LIVE🔴 Atlanta Braves vs Kansas City Royals – Jul 28, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

Along with my partner Chris Singleton, I’m John Shambi. The first half of the All-Star break is behind us and partner, it’s go time in the second half. And if you want to be playing meaningful games at the end of September, you got to put your head down and grind for the next eight weeks. The Atlanta Braves going up against the Kansas City Royals. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. Just about set to go now. Starting on the mound in this one, Seth Lugo. What do we need to know here? Well, he’s allowing just over one base runner per inning, which is really good, especially for a starter because these hitters get to see you two, three, maybe even four times in a start. So, just shows you how deceptive and how effective his stuff is. We’ll see if it’s that way in this one. And now here is Jurgson Proar the pitch edge of the zone called the strike and this one is off and running. Profar gets a piece there. Yeah, that skips in the dirt. See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading the count one, two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt. Next pitch just misses and the count now even up. I think he wanted that call on the upper part of the zone but just didn’t get it. Now he’s just trying to get a better feel for how much it missed so he can adjust his sights just a little bit foul ball left side. He’ll see another. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Outside low and a full countdown. keeps the bat going with a foul ball in the air to left down the line and no one can get to it. It’s a foul ball. Fights it off. He’ll see another chopped to third. Safe at first as they can’t make the play. But when you see that many pitches in an at bat, your chances of succeeding go up. And right there we see the result. And now Matt Olsen up to hit. Fast for a strike. Olsen batting second in today’s lineup. A former first round pick back in 2012. Proofar on at first. Nobody out. Next off is in for a strike. Quickly in an 02 hole. You’re going to have to give something up here in terms of power if you want to put the ball in play with any authority. One, two in the dirt but kept close. Nobody out. Runner at first. Swing and a miss for the strike out. And that’s strikeout number 100 on the year. So now here’s the DH Drake Baldwin. He’s a catcher by trade, but the DH here in this one. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. Let’s go on the ground. Could be two. Garcia to second. What a double play that was. Inning over. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. And now the Royals will get their first shot in a scoreless ball game. Back here at Kaufman Stadium. And on the mound now, Spencer Strider. Well, this guy’s just been filthy out there on the mound. Hitters batting under 200 against him. And they’re just having a hard time squaring up anything, doing any type of damage. The only way he hurts himself is if he gives up the free passes and surreners a rare home run. But outside of that, it’s going to be a tough job for the opposing lineup today. And that is out of play. Swanging a ball lifted in the air right field. He just missed it. White balls it in and there’s one away. And here now the lineup for the Royals. And it’s clear the most important job they have today is getting to the starting pitcher early and often. No doubt about that. That’s the best way to disrupt a game. But can they do it? Certainly something for us to pay attention to in this one, partner. Now it’s the shortstop. Mel Garcia. He’s going to finish with a new career high in stolen bases. Chris, he was late there. Strike one. Ooh, bye. You got to remember to take the donut off the bat, partner. One out. Base is empty. Royals. Next offering is fouled back. the wine in the pitch. Yet he dodges that fast ball up the middle. Throw on to Olsen. Two gone. Batting third, the first baseman, Vinnie Pasquantino. Two down, base is empty. Vinnie Pasquantino steps in for the Royals. Vinnie, pop foul out of play off to the right on the ground right side. Alb’s over to first in time. Third out. KC down in order. We played an inning. No score. Back here in Kansas City. Here’s Shawn Murphy. Shawn Murphy. Lugo back to work. Now a screamer into the outfield. Ray puts it away for the out and there’s one down. The second base. Here is Aussie Alb’s up to hit. Late swing, fouled to the left. No score here in the second. That one missed. Joe McDonald, our umpire behind the dish. Yeah, Boo. Joey Mack. Sometimes a little tough to figure out. We may see some hitters and pitchers asking him where a pitch was here or there, but most of the time he keeps it reasonable on the ground right side. He takes it on his own. Two up, two down in the top of the second. Two out, space is empty. Michael Harris II. Next up for the Braves. That’s off the inside corner and that’s ball one. As a veteran out there on the ball, you’re trying to establish both edges of the plate right here. He’s working inside. Pitch is in there and the count one and one. The one-1 is fouled off. Two out. Space is empty. Drilled in the air. High and deep right field. That’s back there. Splash landing. It’s into the fountains for a huge home run. What a blast. He’ll circle the bases. It’s one- nothing. He absolutely crushed that one. No doubt about that one, Boo. We knew it wasn’t coming back. That one was a hanger and pitchers typically don’t get away with making a mistake like that. And right there he made him pay. Base is empty with two away. Here’s the rookie third baseman, Nacho Alvarez Jr. That pitch in for a strike. Throwing one. 01. That’s a little bit low. That’s too low. Two and one. Finish him. Swang and a miss. Struck him out. Out number three. One scores in the inning. Coming on this solo home run. It’s an early one- nothing lead. You’re dialed into the show. And welcome back to the ballpark. Bottom half of inning number two. Now Salvador Perez. Perez. Right through there for a strike. That one off the mark. One ball. One strike. One ball. One strike. And there’s a ball. Pitch misses there. Three and one now. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. Next offering is in for a strike. And boy, that was the pitch. 3-1. You want to be really aggressive on the fast ball outside and that is ball four. And that’s their first base runner of the game. Batt the designated hitter. So up next, Jack Kagle. First offering and it just misses one ball. No sight. Way high. Swings through that one for strike one. Sometimes being lucky is a swing and miss. If he makes contact with that pitch, probably hits into a double play. swing and a highf fly ball deep left field. That one is back and he brings it into the warning track. Bill, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. John Rae steps in for the Royals. That one in there across the letters, man. I mean, nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was. And downstairs in the air, center field. Harris has a beat on it and there’s two down. And now the catcher comes up to him. Ready for me. Come on. Get on the ground to short. Allen. They get the force. That’s the inning. Royals leave one. still behind by a count of one to nothing. All set for the start of the inning. And now Eli White. Eli singing. You got to appreciate a guy who’s this good defensively. I mean, watching him track balls in the outfield, it is beautiful. Late swing fouled off. So, how much does his speed factor into his ability to go get it? It’s heartbreaking for the hitter because off the bat, he thinks this ball’s going to get down because of that speed and the ability to make up so much ground. He enters the picture and breaks a guy’s heart. The one-1 is fouled off. There’s one guy that I can think about, Boo, who started as a third baseman, Alex Gordon, and then became an elite perennial gold glover out in left field for the Kansas City Royals. But he’s a guy when you watch him play, you would imagine that that’s all he ever played in his life was the outfield and a swing and a miss. That K is his third of the game. That’s a pretty nasty pitch right there. I call it a power curve ball in the 80s. It’s got so much spin on it and you really don’t have a lot of time to sit back and watch what it’s going to do before you have to commit. It was a good one for the swinging strikeout. Nick Allen next up for the Braves. Swinging a foul out of play. Yeah, some guys just have instincts, right? I mean, that’s the way it goes. We talk about Larry Walker, the Hall of Famer, and his instinct on the bases, despite the fact that he didn’t play a ton of baseball as a kid. This one popped up right side. Pasquantino under it. And there are two down. Now batting left fielder Juriken Pro back to the leadoff spot in the Braves lineup. And next for Atlanta, Juriken Proar reached on an infield single his first time. Inside just missed. Remember Mark Katse was a real good defensive outfielder. Good instincts, not great speed. just missed. Yeah. And I figured you would get caut into this because you had a free dinner at his house the other night. That is true. No, with the shift on right into it. Frasier on the first in time and it’s a one, two, three inning for the Braves. Braves go down quickly here, but they still lead it one- nothing. And we’re back. Bottom of the inning. And now it’s Kyle Strider is a guy known for his velocity. He can bring it. But that wasn’t always the case. Coming back from an injury in college. Strider was throwing 94 to 96 mph boo when the Braves drafted him. Now he lights up the radar gun with tripledigit speeds. Strider deals. That misses. Ball one. Fun attempt. Popped off. Murphy throws the first in time there to beat him by an eye. Pretty sure he took a look around the infield to see where they were playing before laying that one down and everyone was playing back. You assume that’s going to be a pretty easy knock, but he just couldn’t put it down in the right spot to allow him to beat that out. Maybe the right idea, but he just couldn’t pull it off. Number two stands in now and watches strike one. Oh, when you can throw that big curve on the inside part of the plate, very difficult pitch for the hitter to get on plane with. You can have a lot of success if you can pitch in that location. Now a drag ball third base side and foul ball. Swing and a miss. Struck him out of the slider and there’s two gone. And he’ll be beating himself up on the way back to the dugout. Got a pitch to hit and just couldn’t get to it. I think that slider really caught way more the plate than it was supposed to. Back to the top of the lineup. Here’s the second baseman, Adam Frasier. And that misses. And that is ball one. And that drops in for a strike. That one to first. Boots it. Still manages a throw. Misplay doesn’t cost him. Inning over. Nothing across here this half. Three innings complete. It’s the Braves one and the Royals nothing. Back here at Kaufman Stadium, John Chami with Chris Singleton and set to lead off the fourth, Matt Olsen. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. Oh, he’s looking great so far. It helps when over 80% of your first pitches are strikes. He might be able to go the distance if he keeps this up. And delivers outside. And now two and one. Swings through that one for strike two. This ball’s chopped on the ground. Bare hand grab to first. And that’s a great play for the out. Pretty flashy with the bare hand grab right there. Kind of risky, but man, he made it look easy. Baldwin. So digging in, Drake Baldwin. He hit into a double play his first time up. Strike one. Baldwin measures 5′ 10 in, 23 years old, and he’s one of the few players in Major League Baseball, born in Wisconsin. Base is empty, one away. Top half of inning number four. And that one popped to short Garcia. snags it for the second out. That was a good pitch to hit right down the heart of the plate. Had pretty good timing on it. Just got underneath it a little bit and popped it up. Two down, base is empty. So, here’s Murphy now. 0 for one so far. Come on, Royals. Let’s do this. And first off is fouled off. Two outs. Just missed. Just missed. That one ripped and that’s a foul ball. Finish him. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming. gets a piece and stays alive. Spoils that one and it remains two and two. right side. Ray under this one, squeezes it. And that is that. Nothing doing here this half. And midway in the fourth, it’s the Braves one and the Royals nothing. back here in Kansas City. Bottom four and the batter will be a short stop. Mikel Garcia Garcia and the first pitch misses for ball one. One ball, no strike. Swing and a miss. I think he was sitting off speed there. One strike. Swing and a miss. in that strike two. Well, there’s a certain point where you have to commit to what you think you see. And he guessed wrong right there. Nasty slider with just terrific bite at the end. Tosses to first. Lead off hitter retired in the fourth. Now batting the first baseman, Vinnie Pasquantino. Vinnie Pasquantino steps in for the Royals. 0 for one. He grounded out in his first at bat. Curveball drops in for a strike. And this guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today. In the air fairly deep to right field and it’s caught for the now batting the left fielder Salvador. And now it’s Salvador Perez to the plate. walked his first time. Slider misses outside. The guy at the plate could recognize Slider out of the hand. Didn’t stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception. He knew right away it was an off speed pitch just off the inside edge. The Royals hitless so far in the game. That clips the corner. Not even close there. And the count is three and one. Swing and a miss. He was late. Strike two. Full count on the ground and foul ball. Swings here and drives one well left field way back and you can’t forget it. That’s his fourth home run of the series. It’s 1-1. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. So it’s all tied up thanks to the home run. So up now for Kansas City, Jack Kaggleó. That one outside and that’s ball one. Two down, base is empty, but one run across. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Up and in. Ball two. two down to and there’s the strike and that is downstairs and the count’s full. Three and two. The pitch is outside and ball four. Very close off the outside corner. Could have easily been called a strike in that location. And to the plate for Kansas City. John Rae fly to center his first time. He’s 0 for one. And that one a little below the knees. Ball one. Next offering is fouled back. Kaggle Leone off of first with two away. Pretty good pitch to take a pass at and a one count. Just not able to square it up. Ripped to third but handled. And that’ll end the in. And KC draws even on this solo blast. All even at one a piece. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. New inning getting started. Leading off Azie Alies. Lugo back to work. That’s in for a strike. And that one fouled off. Pretty good pitch there to take a rip at. He wants to get his arms extended. He likes the ball away from him a little bit. Just not able to square it up. Foul ball still 0 and two. fouls that off to the left and will do it again. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2. way inside. Gets out of the way. Swinging a ground ball and that’s just fouled. Five foul balls in this at bat so far and these two are going headtohead. You can see the crowd. They’re starting to get into it a little bit more and more each pitch even though there hasn’t been a ball in play yet. This to third. whips it across and Albz is retired. Now batting the center fielder, Michael. So now to the plate for Atlanta, Michael Harris II. He’s already homered in this game. And that’s outside. One ball, no strikes. That one close rule to ball and that’s ball two ball. He hasn’t fallen behind in the count like this all day. He’s in danger of walking his first batter right here. All tied up and we’re at the top of the fifth. That’s a strike and it’s three and one. This game has been so tight. Feels like the next team to score will win it. Next offering is in for a strike. Out to center is Bell should have this one and that quickly two away. The batter now in for the Braves. Nacho Alvarez Jr. Junior. All right. Kansas City. That one finds a corner. That’s strike one. A little up front there as he swings through it. No ball. Two strike on the ground right side. Frasier the throw to first and that will end the inning and the Braves go down quietly. Still tied 1-1. And welcome back to the ballpark. And here’s the catcher ready for me. 30. First pitch misses. And another ball. Slider right there. 2-1. out towards right center field. Touches down. That’s a hit. And a good start to the inning. Well, that was one of those high percentage advantage counts where batting averages are just so much higher. Put a pretty good jolt into that one. Great swing, nice balance and weight transfer. And he got it to drop in out there in the deep part of the field. And next up for the Royals, Kyle Isbel just missed. Runner at first with no outs here. Next offering is downstairs. Way to lay off that pitch down. And that one just missed off the outside edge. Nasty back door slider. There’s really nothing you can do with that if you swing at it. So, it’s a good take by him on the inside corner for a strike on this count. Runner not known for his speed, but I think you got to put him in motion. Try to avoid a double play here. Boo. In the air, left field down the line. Fair ball. runner around third. Relay throw home. The tag is in there and a 2-1 ball game now. Back to back base hits. Just a blue pit behind third right there. And that’s a really tough play for a third base or shortstop to get to. And the same for the left fielder. So, he just found a perfect place to drop that one in right there. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Here’s the third base. And the first pitch misses for ball one. There’s the swing and a miss. Two strikes to a guy who’s already 0 for one with the punch out. The only guy in the lineup with that strike out. But you can’t get too relaxed. You still got to make good pitches to get him out. Man at second. Got him swinging. Well, that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count. And as a pitcher, it really allows you to start expanding the zone. Hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide. And what happens is because of the pressure, you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is. And that’s what leads to the strike out. Foul ball there. Runner at second here. One gone. Fouled off. He was late. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. Well, I think that’s a case of overthinking right there. Got three straight fast balls looking in the 02 count just to pour it back. So, two down now. And here is Mike El Garcia has grounded out a couple of times and that’s off the inside edge. And that’s ball one. swaying and a miss. There’s that change up. Is at second with two down. Next offering is in for a strike. Goodness. I think he just took the best pitch he’s going to see in this at bat. You don’t get many like that in that location. I don’t know if you take that pitch against any pitcher out there on the mound. That missed by a lot. And the count is even. Two and two. Swinging a ground ball up the middle. Throw on to Olsen and that’ll keep more runs from coming in. Inning over. KC gets one on the double and it’s now a two-1 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. And we’re back all set for the top of the six. And now here’s a speed threat outfielder Eli White. You know, this guy’s great speed is in the back of that pitcher’s mind. If he can get on, it’s going to give him one more thing he’s got to think about. In the air, right field, pretty well struck. High bounce over the fence for an automatic double. Well, there’s something really nice about getting yourself an automatic double like that. You get to stroll into second base without having to worry about a throw or getting your uniform dirty. And now you’re just looking for the next guy to kind of do the same thing. Maybe put one in the gap so you can jog home as well. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Allen will hit next. Check swing called strike. As a pitcher, you know the runner on second is ready to push things with his speed. A base hit is probably going to be a big run. So you really have to execute on the mound with the go ahead run at the plate and we’re the top half of the six. Next offering is outside. One ball, one strike. Went too far that time. It’s one and two. And it’s second. Off the mark there. Two and two. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. Still two and two after the foul ball. Runner at second. Nobody out. This one in the dirt and an excellent job keeping it right there. Jerickson Profar in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. And swing in the miss. Not what you’re looking for after the lead off double. A strike out. And there’s one away. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. Proofar climbs in on that left side. One for two. Highf fly ball out towards left field. It bangs off the wall. Oh, he botches it. The relay throw. He beats the throw and a run is in to score. Big RBI for him right there. Just about got it out of here down the line to left. though. I’m sure he wishes he could have put a little more behind it, but he’s got to feel good about that missile off the wall. One down, runner at third. Matt Olsen next up for the Braves. Go for two in this one. And that one upstairs. Ball one. The one two bullpen action for the Royals. Steven Cruz, the young right-hander up and throwing. Shriber also throwing. just missed. This is a situation where the hitter is looking for something up in the zone that he can get his arms extended. What you have to be careful of is that pitch that’s up that’s in on your hands. That’ll pop you up in the infield and that’s exactly what the pitcher wants. That one’s in there. They’re now three in one. And that one fouled off. Runner on at third. One gone. Drilled to right. Way back there. And that is gone. That one’s got to feel good. It’s 42. Those are the at bats that leave pitchers exhausted. He had to throw a lot of pitches and still gave up the long ball. That’s a bad combo. Looks like this guy was looking out over the plate, but he was ready to turn on the inside. Fast ball. So direct to the pitch. Absolutely blasted out of this ballpark. Here comes the skipper and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Seth Lugo out of the game and it wasn’t his best start but he kept them in it to this point and we’ll come back with a new arm. Now pitching for Lucas comes on now and we all know about his slider. It’s just filthy, man. And one of the better runs in the game, I’d say. Spin rate’s very high and it just breaks a ton. And now it’s the Braves DH Drake Baldwin. That one finds the zone. Strike one. Part of the order coming through now. And with one home run already in this inning, they’re definitely looking to do some more damage. Still only one out here in the inning. Not close with that one. And one and one. Wow. Triple digits on the gun. I I know there are more pitchers that can reach that now than in the past, but it’s still impressive to watch. That’s out to center field. Is belt settles under this one. Pulls it down and there’s two gone. The batter, the catcher, Shawn. Two outs. Base is empty. Shawn Murphy getting ready to hit. He’s built his reputation as one of the top framers in the sport. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. He really committed to that fast ball up at the top of the zone. He knows that if he makes a mistake in the zone, it gets hit hard by a power guy like this. That’s a nice miss right there. Two outs. And now two balls in a strike. Just missed. Three ball. One strike. And that’s low for ball four. Well, that’s a really good take right there. And that’s just mentally prepared knowing that if it’s not on a TE, you’re going to take that pitch because you still have one more strike to work with. Not easy to lay off, but he did an excellent job in that plate appearance. Albe in the box again, takes the strike. foul ball. It stays nothing and two. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. And that one is lifted in the air. He’s there. He’s got it. And that is that. But they strike for three in the inning. Two on this two-run home run. It’s now 42. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. back here at Kaufman Stadium. And now the first baseman, Vinnie Pasquantino. And the first pitch misses for ball one. The Braves bullpen has some activity. Dylan Lee getting ready to come in for manager Brian Snicker. Bummer. Warming up as well. Right through there for a strike. And that one hammered. That’s back there. And that is gone. He’s up to three home runs in the series. It’s 43. That’s exactly what this crowd wanted to see in this spot. He blasted that pitch. That’s an impressive swing of the bat to go over the wall to the opposite field gap. And you know, there are a lot of guys that just don’t have the pop to do that. and probably just as many who don’t have the approach either. He let that ball travel and he got great extension on the follow through to drive it out of here. Here comes the manager out of the Braves dugout and he will make a move to the pen. Spencer Strider departs. Not his best performance, but he leaves with the lead and we’ll get a new arm into the game after this. They go with one of their more experienced arms in this spot, Raphael Montero. And this is an important part of this game. Tight score and still a lot of outs to get. So they’re looking for a big outing out of him right here to get some critical outs. Now the left fielder, Salvador Perez. Fought off foul. Always exciting to see a laid-off home run in an inning. Kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning. That one finds the zone. No balls, two strikes. No need to offer that pitch until you get to two strikes. It’s just a low percentage of success when you want to try to go after that down and away pitch. That one not close. Going to count one and two. Stays alive. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in here in the bottom of the six. Rocketed out towards right center and a base hit. really nice job of two strike hitting in that at bat. Just a really nice approach to shoot that line drive to the opposite field. There’s a lot of hard work and discipline that goes into getting a result like that at the plate. Doesn’t come naturally for most hitters. So now the DH spot, Jack Kaggleó, he’s 0 for one and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. pitch misses there. One and one. Oh, he’s really working him away this at bat. Sometimes take a little bit off velocity. Try to get a roll over something on the ground. Stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield. And a count one and two. Perez gets his lead at first with nobody out. Got him. And now one away. Are you kidding me? Now batting the So up now for Kansas City, John Ray. Ray. There’s a strike. And I know you want to be patient as a hitter, but you got to be ready to jump on the first thing straight. And he got one right there. But look, the bat on his shoulder. One- run game. One out, one on. And that’s in the dirt. Well, with the amount of pitches that can end up in the dirt, a good secondary lead, doesn’t have to get away from the catcher, but if you’re anticipating based off blows the high heat, past them, that’s a strike out. But that kind of velocity, an elevated fast ball, even if it’s still in the strike zone, can be tough for hitters to get on top of. Here’s the catcher Freddy Fine. First offering and it just misses. Montto fires and a foul ball. And there’s a foul ball. Next offering is down low. Fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts. But not before they answer back with a solo home run. It’s now a 43 ball game. Back after this on the show. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound. Taylor Clark. Well, he’s been hit pretty hard at times this season as you see with the big RA. So, this is an important outing for him to get on the right track. Michael Harris I now at the plate. He’s already homered here in this one. Perez. First pitch misses. One ball. No strikes. Fast ball for a strike. Next pitch is downstairs. tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. Swings through that and it’s a strike out and one out now. Oh, really went aggressive in with that slider. Good two strike pitch right there. At worst case scenario, it’s weak contact in play. exactly where the catcher wanted. And now it’s going to be Nacho Alvarez Jr. And that drops in for a strike. Base is empty, one away here in the top half of inning number seven. That pitch gets the inside corner and it’s 0 and2. Well, he didn’t like those first two pitches now in an 02 hole. He’s going to have to battle. Hope he gets a mistake. And a breaking ball misses outside. 02 pitch that far out of the zone gives the hitter a little confidence that maybe he can climb back into this at bat. and a swing and a miss coming out of the bullpen door. Be chance to strike out the side. Now you talk about the benefits, the advantages of relievers who can come in and get the swing and miss, whether it’s inherited runners or maybe a little jam that they get into themselves knowing that they can miss the bat. Tell you what, that’s huge and can change the ball game. Eli White next up for the Braves and a breaking ball drops in for a strike. That’s a bullet, but it goes foul. Finish him. They tried to get him to chase on a slider down and away. gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. And they’ll do it again. Two down to a rope into right and that’s a base hit. Up next for Atlanta, the shortstop, Nick. So, two down, Nick Allen. Next up for the Braves, Clark with a move to first. And he’s back in there. I love this part of the game. Does he really want to try and steal second against this catcher? I know he’s fast, but it’s pretty risky. Check swing and he went 0 and one. No ball. One strike. Swing and a ball popped in the air and it stays fair. Coming home and he’s out. Cut down and that ends the inning. Always exciting to see a play at the plane. Trying to score with two outs, but the tag just gets him in time. And they cut down the run to end the inning. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh, Dylan Lee. Well, he’s been excellent against left-handed hitters this year, and that’s his first test. This looks like a good move to the pin in terms of the matchup. Well, one-run game. And to the plate for Kansas City, Kyle Isbel. Strike one. 01. and a strike. Two pretty nasty sliders to get this hitter into an 02 count. If you’re up there at the plate, you got to look up in the zone and spit on anything that’s down. Checks his swing. That would appeal to third. No, he held up. Pitch misses outside and it’s two and two. Two strikes. Knocks that one away and will do it again. Looking to get the tying run on base now. They’ll miss. That one misses. So a lead off walk. Third base number two. No outs. Runner at first. Now the third baseman. There’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. And that gets the top of the zone for a strike. Well, he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there. Couldn’t pull the trigger. And perhaps the best pitch you’ll see in this at bat to hit. That’s down and in. Good slider down and in can be so hard to get on plane with. You’re better off taking that pitch. Two and one now. And there’s a ball. This is a really good feeling for a hitter at this point in the ball game. You know that they don’t want to walk you. So, you’re going to get a pitch to hit. You just better not miss it. and ball four to a board. just missed his spot on the inside right there. Here’s Adam Frasier. This is what standards like myself might call a high leverage situation. Yeah, but not sure what the numbers say, but clearly an at bat that could change the course of this game dramatically. Squares, but that rolls foul. The possible tying and go-ahead runs on base. Nobody out. Hopped up and a foul ball. Next offering is downstairs. One ball. Nobody out. The tying and go-ahead runs are aboard here. The bottom of the seventh. to third. Might be two. Now that short things that lead to big innings other than hits or home runs are of course walks and errors, free base runners and they’ve been gifted with both so far this inning. And that will make any manager in the dugout just stew a little bit and I’m sure he is right now. Here comes a manager out of the Braves dugout and he will make a move to the pen. Dylan Lee done for the night and he leaves with the bases loaded. So he’ll look for some help from his teammate coming in behind him de los Santos into the game and he’s been really shutting down hitters from the right side of the plate this year. Not a lot of hard contact, not a lot of hits period. Mike El Garcia steps in for the Royals. Golden opportunity right here. The emmo for him is contact. the guy who’s going to deliver average, not a ton of power. He’s looking to hit a line drive somewhere. Well, that’s why it’s a team. And when you look at a lineup, he’s a great two-hole hitter or a guy that you could put at the bottom to help turn that lineup over to have some momentum for your top in the air left field. Proar settles under it, makes the grab. Runner attacks from third. He’ll score on the sack fly. And this game is tied in the seven. There you go. Nice little RBI there. It’s a great at bat. Got the job done. Vinnie Pasquentino the next to hit. And there’s no doubt that they’ll feed off the energy from this crowd, right? I mean, yeah, I’d say the intensity level has gone up a few notches for sure. Yeah, the first offering is not close at the dish looking to lift the ball in the air in this spot. Anything but the inning inning double play. Next offering upstairs. Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. One out. The go-ahead run is at second. Check swing and he went. Now two balls in a strike. One strike. swings and he breaks his bat. Goes to second for one. Throw pulls him off the bag and he’s safe. Now batting. Well, an aggressive slide at second base, but it was legal. I like it because you’re trying to break up the double play and it looked like the slide impacted the throw a little bit. Nice job by the base runner. Here’s the left fielder, Salvador Perez, and fouled off. tied at four and that one in the air center field. Harris has a beat on it and that is the inning. So they pick up a run on no hits, but they leave two men on. We look ahead to inning number eight and we are tied 4-4. Welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Steven Cruz. And one thing on him, he’s been really good this season at keeping the ball in the park. Not an easy guy to take deep. Here’s Pro Farardal swing and a miss as he was late that time. Activity in the Kansas City bullpen. Carlos Estz up and loosening in the pen. Shriber also getting ready. and one and two. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. Really think the outer half is open. Up and in. Now two and two. That’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. And it remains two and two. Breaking ball misses down and away. Matt Olsen in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow right field. falls it in for the out. Now battling the first base, Matt Olson. Here’s Matt Olsen down. He’s a big strong guy. Can untie this game with one swing. Swing and a miss. Strike one. Power relievers one after another coming out of the bullpen these days. Got to be ready for that first pitch heater. splits the plate 0 and two. He must have been looking for something else cuz he gave up on that pitch a little early. It was right down main street. Probably not going to see a better pitch to hit in this at bat. All tied up and we’re in the top of the eighth. And now one and two. Olsson swings and drives it deep to right back there and it hits the fence and the potential go-ahead run stops at second base. Good two strike hitting right there. A bit of a lost start for some. So that was nicely done to beat the odds. just missed out on a home run right there, but he certainly hit it hard enough. Just didn’t have the right launch angle to carry it over the wall, but still an excellent swing of the bat. Really important at bat coming up now. Next is the designated hitter, Drake Baldwin, just off the outside edge. man. It’s second and it’s even up and a swing and a miss there. Really going after him here. All fast balls to get ahead in the count. And a good eye there. Boo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. With that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. Tied at four. Got him looking and to Elena. Nice work there to get the strike out. And that’s a big second out. I’ll tell you, this whole crowd will be fired up if they can get out of this and leave that go ahead run stranded in scoring position. This is a big moment in this game. And now the catcher comes up to him. Shawn Murphy outfield playing very deep, not wanting anything over their heads. That just misses and it’s one and0. Two down. Go ahead. Run in scoring position. Two. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Next pitch is outside. Almost feel like he’s frustrated a little bit. He wants to be challenged. Azie Alies in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. So now two on and two outs. second walk of the game for him and he’s been really patient at the play, a game plan that he’s sticking to. He’s just not going outside of what he’s looking for up there. So, the go-ahead run is into scoring position and here comes Azie Alb’s to the dish. 0 for three in this one. just missed. Well, this is a critical spot for both the pitcher and the hitter. You can learn a lot about a guy by how he handles these pressure situations. And fast ball misses outside for a ball. And now 2 and 0. Two on, two outs. To the right side. Frasier in plenty of time to first andes retire. They miss a big chance to take the lead here late. Ready for the bottom of the eighth. So here’s the Royals DH Jack Pagon Delos Santos back to work and that’s in for a strike. This one in the air center field. Harris has a beat on it. Brings it in. And there’s one away. Now batting right fielder Jaw. And next up for the Royals, John Ra. First pitch doesn’t find the zone and another ball. Next offering in there for a strike. Two balls in a strike in today’s game. Not that many fast ball counts, but hitters still in the back of their minds. They’re looking for one. Two change up call right there. Excellent pitch selection to go with. That’s in there. And now two and two. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. He had him out in front, which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this. Known for using the entire field. Just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one. Freddy Fine digs in now. One for three. And that one off the outside edge. Two down, nobody on here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. And that’s through there for a strike. And the count one and one and a swing and a miss. There’s that slider. He has a tendency to chase out of the zone. And that slider that’s down, that’s one of his money pitches to get that swing and miss. missed with a change up. Two and two right through there. Got him. And good work there as he gets a one, two, three. Royals bats are quiet there. Still all square at four apiece. Now pitching from here comes the closer here in the ninth, Carlos Estz. He doesn’t get a lot of strikeouts compared to other receivers. So he relies on getting that soft contact and the defense doing work behind him. They’ll have to be on their toes with him on the bump. Michael Harris I getting ready to hit Michael Harris. Ball one, no strikes. 10. And that is out of play. hit hard the other way down the line. This has got a chance and foul. Foul swing and a highf fly ball in the air left field. Brings it in. One up, one down. And next for Atlanta, Nacho Alvarez Jr. 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. That misses the zone and that is ball one. One ball, no strike. and a swing and a miss. I’d say that stayed in the tunnel for a long time. No chance of even fouling it off. That’s in there. Now he’s in a one-two hole. That’s inside. Foul ball. Another two two upcoming. Base is empty. One away here in the top of the ninth. On the ground to third and that chance handled. Slings to first in time. Well, there’s a lot riding on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. So now a pinch hitter, Ronald Auna Jr., he represents the go-ahead run. And takes low for ball one. That’s through there for a strike. Well, so many hard throwing relievers in the game these days. You would think that hitters have made the adjustment, but I don’t know if you ever get used to it. Just pumping gas out of the booklet. So hard to play catchup. cut on and missed and it’s a strike out and that is the inning. Nothing doing for the offense that time. 891 do up in the bottom of inning number nine and we are tied 4-4. back now as they hand the ball to a fresh arm to start the bottom of the ninth. Aaron Bummer. And he’s had a struggle so far this year. As you can see, the inflated erra looking to bring that down a little bit right here. And now the center fielder, Kyle Isel. The center fielder Kyle Isel. He swings and misses at the first pitch. 0 and one action in the pen down there. Reel Glacius up and throwing. And the sweeper is off the plate. Swaying and a miss and a count. One and two. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. flares it into the outfield. Takes it in for the out. Third baseman number two, Tyler Tolbert. Now a move being made for a pinch hitter Bobby Wit Jr. And this is a big at bat coming boo. Definitely a little added pressure on him here. First pitch not close. And another ball. Fast ball on the inside corner for a strike. That’s a ball. Tried the sweeper. Adam Frasier in the OD circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. 44 in the ninth. Check swing. He went too far and it’s a strike. Full count. 3-2 now. Here’s a tapper towards short. Allen the throw to first and Whit is out. Good sinker low in the zone right there and produced exactly what he was looking for. Ball on the ground, nice ground out. So up next, Adam Frasier 0 for four. Two ground outs, a fly out, and a strike out. You know, this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher. But what you tell yourself is I want to stay square to the plate and try to hit the ball over the shorts stop’s head inside one and no strike that finds the mark on the inside corner. And a ball evens the count. It’s getting squeezed a little bit here late. Bouncer to second. Albz throws to first in time. Frasier retired. That’s the third out and we’re headed to extras. So, no runs, no hits, no errors, and no one left. 10th inning coming up and we are tied 4-4. Jonathan India now in the game as he takes over at third. Third base, number six. So, the go-ahead run at scoring position. So, now to the plate for Atlanta, Nick Allen. And that one fouled off. Here comes the tap foul at the plate. He’s falling behind in a huge spot. Boo. Got to do what it takes to come through. Maybe choke up on the bat a little bit. Spread out those feet. Whatever it takes. Man at second. comes up empty as he chases that one in the dirt. Beats him for the first out and that completes the strike out and the runner holds. That’s that classic wipe out slider below the zone right there. Just nasty. Looks like a fast ball thigh high that you got to protect the zone and then it’s just that late break that fools you and kind of makes you look silly. Here’s the switchhitting left fielder Juriken Proform. He’s been a great free agent side right through there for a strike. One out. The go-ahead run is in second and here in extra innings and a swing and a miss and he’s registered three Ks in this one. That’s tough. You see it well. I mean, I was clearly up and out of the strike zone, but that’s one of the hardest things. But when you see a pitch out of the hand at eye level, that discipline to remember, I can’t hit that pitch. If I can see it really well at eye level, I can’t catch up to that pitch when a pitcher’s got this kind of velocity. Here is Matt Olsen. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Hey, seven straight strikes to start the frame. He’s got a chance in an immaculate inning. Two down, go ahead run in scoring position here in extra innings. Just missed. Got close to the immaculate inning and he just couldn’t find the zone right there. When you think about it, nine straight strikes so tough to do. Swinging a foul out of play. Watch him out. And that skips in the dirt. Called out on strikes and he strikes out the side for the second time today. Braves strand one. This game’s all tied at four. Now pitching for back here in extras and a new pitcher on the mound in the bottom half of the inning, Pierce Johnson. And he’s been racking up strikeouts at a high rate this year. Typically at least one an inning, so he’ll be tough to get to. So up now for Kansas City, Mike El Garcia. Listen, there’s absolutely no reason to pitch to this guy right here. You nibble. You see if he’ll expand his zone, but don’t give him anything to hit. If you walk him, not a big deal. You have a double play opportunity set up and fouled off. Well, if he’s going to do something special right here, it’s going to have to happen with two strikes. Next offering is down low. One ball, two strikes. Fouls it back with two strikes. Pierce Johnson fires. That’s off the mark. Two balls, two strikes. The count. Well, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the at bat. I’m sure there’s sometimes where pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches or one hit. This one could be trouble. Runner around third on his way to the plate. Throw is off. This one’s over and the Royals walk it off in extra innings. You know, you had to feel the pressure. Winning run on second base. Found a way to make solid contact and the winning run comes across to score. Everyone going crazy. Exciting finish to this game today. close one here today and your final 54. A oneun extra inning win for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shambi. Thanks for joining us. Heat. Heat.
