Pittsburgh Penguins TRADING Erik Karlsson To The Dallas Stars? | NHL Trade Rumors
So, could the Pittsburgh Penguins be trading away Eric Carlson to the Dallas Stars this 2025 NHL off season? Well, here on the screen is a snippet of a news item or a news update from Puck Empire on Instagram, which says the Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, and Dallas Stars have been linked to Eric Carlson as per David Pegnota. So, just for this video, I want to focus on the Dallas Stars and their link to Eric Carlson this off seasonason. Now, Eric Carlson trade rumors have been talked about this entire off season. I don’t think it’s going to happen just because of his contract, the term left, and just how hard it is to sort of move a contract of this nature and get back some decent value for it. So, I know the cap is rising the next couple years, and teams are going to have some cap space moving forward, but a lot of teams are focused on having cap space for 2026 and that stacked agency class. So, I don’t think a team’s going to be super willing to take on Eric Carlson at this point of the offseason. Now, perhaps there could be a trade, I guess, that that could be built where some salary heads back uh Pittsburgh’s way. Now, the Dallas Stars made a move with the Penguins earlier this off seasonason where they cleared Matt Dumba’s contract, attached a second round draft pick, and sent that to Pittsburgh. So, I don’t really see a world where maybe they would go out there and acquire Carlson’s contract. Now, the Dallas Stars definitely need some help on their back end. Like, as we saw last year, especially in the playoffs with Boilers, that their back end was a bit of an issue for them. uh they have Mero Heiskin in but when he gets injured it’s a little bit thin after that. So I’m not 100% sure what a trade will look like here but I definitely do think that that the uh the Dallas Stars need to explore whatever is out there in regards to depth on the back end. But in the form of Eric Carlson I just don’t think that’s a great fit. So I think if you’re the Dallas Stars a player that comes to mind that could be a better fit for them would be Rasmus Anderson of the Calgary Flames. Rasmus Anderson is a very talented player. Uh he’s much younger than Eric Carlson. has one year remaining on his deal. So, at the very least, it’s a one-year contract, only making $4.5 million. Perhaps if they want to resign him long-term, it would be a cheaper contract than whatever Carlson’s making right now. So, that’s more of an avenue that I would go personally if I was the Dallas Stars. But, of course, these two teams came together earlier this off season in regards to a trade.
