While I am now a Wizards fan having being born and raised in the DC area, my first love was the Chicago Bulls. And on December 21st, 2012 my Dad and I headed to the Garden to see the Bulls duke it out without Rose.
The first game I saw on TV was Celtics Bulls and I instantly loved Joakim when he wouldn’t back down from KGs bullying. And Rose…I mean I was shocked at how a human could score like that, he was like a superhero on the basketball court.
I loved this team. You had everything, big bruising fiery big men in Deng Noah and Boozer, the youngest MVP that every kid wanted to emulate, despite being awkward and uncoordinated I always tried to run point and be like Rose. You also had some kid named Jimmy Butler who was the embodiment of hustle and grind, wonder what happened to him lol.
The Bulls pulled it off that night, and I was trash talking everyone in my section and my dad was telling me to shut it, not that he was rooting for everyone but it was NYC.
I also totally forgot that Marco Bellinelli played for the Bulls trying to find the box score for this game. I’m sure he played a great role, my basketball memory from middle school isn’t great
Anyway, I was just reminded of this great night in my personal basketball fandom history, and I hope you view this era with some pride cause there’s a lot of great games and moments to appreciate. Go Bulls!

Man I’d love to see Kirk Hinrich around the organization in some capacity. Dude has no social media and I don’t think he was at Derrick Rose night (per the pictures the Bulls posted on Instagram at the time). Shoot even Aaron Gray shows up on the Bulls Instagram almost yearly.
Guessing Kirk’s living a super low-profile life post retirement, hope he makes an apperance at Rose’s jersey retirement .
Also, I love that you’re giving your dad a shoutout, make sure to appreciate all the time you have with him and the sports memories you guys made and continue to make.
Wow, Wizards have fans? SCNR
Nice memories!
