Dodgers vs. Reds Game Highlights (7/28/25) | MLB Highlights
The Dodgers trying to bounce back after losing two of three in Boston. Now three and six to open the second half. The biggest thing that stood out to me was the the lack of offensive production. A lot of walks, a lot of action, but just not getting those runs in. They’re going to face a Reds team here that’s won four consecutive games. They’ve won 10 of the last 14 and they’re a game out of a playoff spot. They’re outscoring their opponents 20-5 in those last 14 games. They have been redhot. The rookies Chase Burns. He left this last game one out short of a quality start. It’s time to produce. They brought him up thinking that he was a guy that was going to help them win. It’s the big leagues. You got to produce or they’ll find someone who will. So, it’s a bright future, but now is today. Mookie Betts stands in for the Dodgers trying to get on track offensively. Betts crushes a line drive into left field that’ll scoot its way to the wall and he’s got extra bases to open this series. There you go. You guys love coming to Cincinnati to hit. This is so good to see how much he has struggled. Show Otani 38 home runs leading the National League. Grounded to second. That’ll advance Bets. Back to Mlan. One out. Bets to third. Hernandez up there with a 252 mark. 16 home run. 62 driven in. And the Reds will play the infield in here early. Bouncing ball through the draw and infield to make it one to nothing Dodgers. Those holes get bigger when the infielders come in. Tasks Hernandez drives in. Mookie bats and they’re on the board just like that. Show Otani assists this RBI by moving Muki over to third base. Pulling in the infield to this 104 mph ground ball can sneak its way through pretty easily. Here’s Freddy. He has not hit a home run in the month of July. Swung through at 100 strike three. That pitch was right over the upper outside corner and Freeman just couldn’t get to it. Strike him out. Pah is down on strikes. Burns with backto-back strikeouts. Close out the Dodger first. Trying to end their winning streak as Yoshobu Yamamoto. and he’s been our ace. I mean, this is the guy you want to hand the ball to, especially in the middle of this road trip on the road. 1.84 RA swung on and that shot through the right side. So, Mlan is on with a one out base hit. And that’ll bring up Dale Cruz when the lights are brightest. Ellie just always seems to rise to the occasion. Got to have it. And the pitch is a breaking ball low. Ellie works the walk. Great at bat right there. Great at bat. So, Ellie’s aboard. Two on with one out. And here’s Austin Hayes and hung a bit stung to left. Confor watches it fall. slammed on the brakes. Throw to third is not in time. He’s called safe. Base is loaded. Matt Mlan a good job of base running cuz if he catches that ball, he’s got to be able to get back to second base. Able to beat the throw into third. So now the former Dodger traded to the Reds this off season. A firstrounder by LA in 2016. Gavin Lux swings. Little tapper by the mound. Second baseman Kim has only one play. That’s the first. He’ll get Lux, but the Reds will get a run. Scoring from third is Mlan and we’re tied at one. Spencer Steer, the first baseman, drills one to left center field. Conforto’s back on and reaches up to make the catch and keep it a 1-1 game. Busy first inning for Conforto out there in left field and he’ll be up there to lead off the second and he throws it in the dirt and Conforto is aboard. Lead off walk. That’s Sun Kim coming up. Struck him out on three. Stay with the power. He does that. He gets the punch out. Swinging a miss. Got him to chase the slider down and away. Rojos is down on strikes. Two gone here in the second. struck him out. Burns on fire. Strikes out three in a row. And after the lead off walk, leading off the inning for Cincinnati, right-handed hitting catcher Tyler Stevenson. And there’s his first strike out of the game after sinking 195. Rises one with a four seam 96. He throws so many of his pitches down in the zone that when he comes up there, you get excited as a hitter saying, “All right, here we go.” Swing and a miss. Strike three. Went to the elevated fast ball for the putaway pitch. Pass the letters. No chance. The last five outs have been via the strike out between Yamamoto and Burns. Show for two. And he got a pretty ugly swing for Otani. Two down for Teay Oscar Hernandez. Struck him out. One, two, three against the top three. Yamamoto facing the top of the order for the second time. TJ Fredle. Well hit to right. Down for a hit. Fredo rips through first and he speeds into second standing with a double. We know TJ Fredo likes the ball on the inner half and that was right there on the inner third of the plate. A fast ball and it was about thigh high. Good way to start this third. Yeah, buddy. Here’s Matt Mlan. He singled through the right side and came around to score the Red’s lone run thus far. Swings and misses. Chases a curve as he digs deep into that arsenal. Kelly de la Cruz coming up. One out runner at second. And he will pop this one up. Shallow left field. Long run for Conforto and he won’t get it. He dove for it and it hit the ground. He just couldn’t come up with it. There was some confusion between Betts and Conorto in left field. Conforto did a little dance, a little stutter step and he just could not get there. So now one out first and third. Austin Hayes has singled to left. Swinging a miss. He struck him out with another splitter. Big strike out there, his fourth of the game. And he now is in scoring position. And that has stolen base number 29 on the season for Ellie De La Cruz. Two on and two out. Gavin Lux has had five men on base in his two at bats combined. And Gavin swings and he pops it up. Short stop. Luki Betts two steps in the outfield. Grass will make the catch and the side retire. The Reds come up empty. Miguel Rojos bats to lead off the Dodgers fifth. Rojos bangs one into the left field on the ground past the third baseman Marte and he will rumble around first. He’s going to try two. Here’s the throw. Head first slide safe at second with a leg double for Miguel Rojos. Astute base running because when you make that turn at first base, the play is in front of you. Well, you know, if you don’t have a chance, you can just slam on the brakes and go back to first. But Rojos judged it perfectly. Swing and a miss. He struck him out. Got him with a slider in. That’s eight for Chase Burns trying to get to 10 strikeouts for the third time already. He’s one for two with a double and a run score. That’s past third. It gets by Marte into left. Rojas stops at third. Second hit of the inning for the Dodgers. And with one out, they’ve got runners at the corners for Show Otani. Smacks a line drive to deep center field. Freda won’t get there. Rojas in to score. Betts is chugging around third. Deacon Cruz has no shot and it’s a two-run ty tiebreaking double for Show Otani. That is nitro zone for Shi Otani. Nitro by 111 m anph into the gap. Otani’s been the hottest Dodgers hitter as he and Dave Cruz catch up. One of my favorite moments of Ellie’s young career was the first time that he met Otani. That was a couple of years ago, the Angels, and he rather famously started to poke him in the arm as if to say, “You’re real. You’re you’re a real human being.” That’s respect. Game respects game. Maybe he asked him what he’ll throw him when he he starts. T Oscar Hernandez with runner down at second base and one out. Swing going to miss. He struck him out with a slider away. Hernandez is down on strikes for the second time. Nine now for Chase Burns tonight. On three pitches, Yamamoto has recorded two outs. Matt Mlan is one for two. Single and scored a run in the first. Struck out on a curveball in the third. Swing and a miss. He struck him out. Six strikeouts for Yamamoto. And it’s a second straight one, two, three inning, his third of the game. So now the Dodgers are threatening. They have runners at first and third with one out on a strikeout pass ball and now a sack bunt that goes as an error and Stevenson’s out talking with Burns. Rojos at the plate. Runners at first and third with one man out. And now the pitch. Runner started then stopped and Rohos bunts. Coming home to the plate is the runner Conforto and Stevenson gets the tag taking the feed from Steer and the Reds get the out at home. So backto back bunts. Dodgers trying to manufacture a run. Red’s defense up to the task. Nice play by Steer. So they get that second out of the inning and it looks like that’ll be all for Burns. Done after 10 strikeouts with two outs in the sixth. He will exit. Nei Cruz will lead off for Cincinnati. The shorts stop. He is one for one with a walk and a stolen base tonight. Good take. Oh no, he got the call on the high fast ball for strike three. Much to the dismay of Dea Cruz. Strikeout number seven for Yamamoto. And that pitching change will be Scott Barlo for the Reds. Full count pitch. It’s outside and that’s backto back walks for Barlo here in this one. It’ll be a meeting on the mound now. And if the Reds have any hope in this one, they have got to seal the deal here in this seventh inning. And right now it is looking all Dodgers at the moment. And the Dodgers have set up shop. First and second, nobody out for Tay Oscar. Ripped into left center field. A base hit for Hernandez. What an at bat from Tay Oscar. Bets in to score. Otani to third. And it’s four to one. Well, it’s a big at bat by Tioscar. Hernandez. Down quickly. 0 and two. Kept fouling some pitches off. Finally got a breaking ball. Nobody out. Freeman is 0 for three. Scram ball right side and welcome to the table. Freddy Freeman. Otani’s in to score. Dodgers up five to one. Freddy gets to eat two. Top four in the Dodger order delivering today. Marlo having a tough time here in the seventh. Two walks, two singles to open this inning. Still nobody out. And a chance for Andy Pahz. And strength three call. The Reds finally get a call at the bottom of the strength zone. One down. Terry Frankona makes his way to the mound and Rogers will come in after the pitching change timeout. Rogers forken for shoots one the other way and a base hit. Station to station they go. Hernandez stops at third. And the bases are full of Dodgers and one man out. Kim 0 for three. Bunded his last time and it was thrown away by Burns. First pitch popped. D Cruz fading back. Kim pops out. Two down and Miguel Rojos will bat with two down. Ground ball left side. De la Cruz has it. Throws on the run. What a play. Oh, Ellie Dea Cruz showing off a bit of range. What a start by the Dodgers Yamamoto. Yeah, with a fast ball split, an occasional breaking ball. He was really good in this game. Only two walks and nine punches on 101 pitches. So, he ties his season high in innings. Right-hander Blake Trinan into the ball game for the Dodgers. And Trinan has not been active long. This will only be the ninth appearance for Trinan. It’s a walk here in the locks. The Reds have life man on. Spencer Steer is 0 for three. All of his outs in the air, one in foul ground. Struck him out. One gone in the ninth. Now Stevenson had a rough night so far. He struck out three times. First pitch grounded right side and through. Base hit. Stevenson one for four. Two men on and one out in the bottom of the ninth inning for Cincinnati. Getting down to the bottom of the order. The number eight hitter Will Benson. That is rope to right. Base hit. Wave is on for Lux. He scores. Stevenson steaming to third. He takes it standing. A Benson bullet to right. The tying run comes to the plate. Well, Tryan tried to get it up and it ended up about the belt. I don’t think that’s where he wanted it. Noelv Marte is 0 for three. He is grounded out three times. Trying to Marte with the O2 pitch. Got him to chase for strike three. And the Reds are down to their last out. Two gone in the ninth inning. And now TJ Fredel weigh in. Four pitch walk. Base is loaded. The winning run pass. Blake Trinan is going to leave the game. Dave Roberts going to Jack Dryer. So now it’s Mlan. And with two outs in the ninth inning, you’re at a spot now or one in the gap. Could very well tie this ball game up. Ground ball up the middle. Mookie bets is there over to first. That’s the game. Never a doubt. Five to two. The Dodgers. He got it here with a win. Things got a little too close for comfort there in the ninth inning, but Dave Roberts club comes out of it with a victory. Five to2 the final.

Conforto no works. 😡
Nice
Cincinnati played a solid game, but there’s not much you can do when the Dodgers are heating up. Outstanding pitching by both starters.
So conforto will be a starter all season? Really?
We need real closer and stable relief pitchers to play off stage
Leta go Blue guys
Idk man. Very questionable plays from Conforto
コンフォートもキムも、打線の調子が上がらないなりに泥臭い「ヤキュウ」をしててとても良かった。
Great to see Treinen back!
Some time when the Dodgers leading in to the 9th , I hope Robert’s could have been sending Ohtani to close the game instead. Get me less heart problems when watching the game.
the hip lock is back yessssssssssssssss
Where are the people who said that Dodgers should put Kim in the line up? He's been silent for some games now. 🥱
smh its not "playoff spot" talk time yet. it never is for the reds
Third slot⚾️

No excuse for Conforto missing that ball!
Excitement
I could definitely see Elly De La Cruz in a Dodgers uniform.
돈 쓴 거에 비해서 왤케 못하냐 다저스야 2연패 할라면 좀 더 힘내라~~
Conforto terrible put mookie in the outfield
How much better do the Dodgers look when they're not 100% reliant on homers from Shohei? Timely hits from Teo, Freddie, Mookie, Sho… even Conforto! They're getting back to what they should be.
Mookie can’t throw to first without it being in the dirt or away.
Bunting is a lost art.
Dodgers winning a game by not hitting homers…who woulda thunk it!
Comforto runs so slow. Whether it's for catching a fly ball or trying to score a run. He looks like he just gives half effort to everything he does. He needs to go.
Conforto needs to be replaced!!!!!!!
YOSHINOBU YAMAMOTO🇯🇵⚾️9️⃣
ELY TO DODGERS COMFIRMED🫡🫡
💙💙💙
This game really showed Conforto hurting us… the two misreads and then trying to go home on that bunt that was too hard and right at the first basemen
Mookie!!! Nice ❤. Othani … No effort…
Just DFA conforto dude sucks
wish the Dodger dominance would come back full-time. they won this one, but it's still absolutely tiring that they get these quick leads and then almost always give it back as soon as possible. or within 2-3 innings. they just don't get those games anymore when they get a nice decent lead and you kind of sense they are going to win. miss that.
Confronto and rushing are the most useless players
Dodgers keep playing awful
Keep Playing like that and no way they make the World Series
“Outscored opponents 20 to 5 in the last FOURTEEN games?”
Almost gave this game away
Conforto is awful. My guess is the Dodgers will trade for a LF at the deadline.
Dodgers playing as a team.
Finally giving Yamamoto some run support
1:27 They will do whatever they need to so the can mention Ohtani.
Dodgers got di bite back from karma because they give #11 to rocky & now rrojas playing 3rd base for muncy not coming back in few days like on barry bonds loaded of ( steroids) poor people
