Do charger fans just drive/fly in for the game or do you stay in LA for the weekend?
July 29, 2025
People used to go to San Diego for the weekend then end it by going to the Charger game on Sunday. Do people do this when they go to LA? If so then tell us.

I drive and stay with friends
Drive in, drive out asap. Hate LA.
I drive up from SD and back for 1pm games. Will usually get a hotel for night games,
Only 90 minutes away but will still get a room walkable to SoFi. Watch, sleep, go home. We’re old.
Going to the Bronco game on 9/21. Flying in from Vegas for the day. First flight in and last flight out. Heard there’s not much around Inglewood anyway.
Live in AZ now but will typically stay in like Buena Park area then park at the Harbor Gateway Transit Center and take the shuttle to SoFi.
Originally from LA, now live in Colorado. I fly in for a long weekend. Since I still have family out there, I stay near them (East LA area) otherwise, I’ll stay near Santa Monica or Hollywood as it’s more central to everything around LA.
I stay in San Diego and cry
Drive in and out the same day back to SD
Drive in and out the same day from Santa Barbara (usually takes ~90 mins each way)
Always make it a mini getaway! One of my goals in life has been to stay at different hotels.
I’ve stayed at Marriott and Omni- racking up rewards helps!
I done both, from Las Vegas. Driving takes 4 hours one way, flying takes 45 mins one way.
I don’t stay because I’m always scheduled to work Mondays, except if it’s a holiday 🙃
Season ticket holder – I drive from Santa Barbara County. For day games, I drive there and back in the same day. I also use Redondo Beach Metro for the free parking.
For night games its a mix. I have driven home as I am a night owl. I have also stayed at a hotel near the Redondo Beach Metro station. It depends on how I feel. I think it was a Hilton Garden Inn. It’s a good hotel for a quick crash, but its not walking distance to anything fun for a tourist.
I usually drive from Las Vegas, and most of the time it’s a day trip. Sometimes I crash overnight at a friend’s. When it’s raiders week me and my best friend spend the entire weekend roasting each other in a hotel by the beach because she tags along as a raiders fan but she’s actually a cowboys fan so I give her shit. For the home opener this year I invited my friend from San Diego to drive up to SoFi for a game. I am going to fly this time. When the game is over we will drive back to SD. Monday we will be hitting up a Padres game, and Tuesday I’ll fly home. I’m so excited for sportsball weekend 😂
We fly into LA and usually go for a long weekend and stay in Santa Monica or Marina del Rey. Sometimes we go to other areas in SoCal for a few days and do just one night up by the stadium. Last year was Disney and this year it’ll be a few days in San Diego
Drive up and back all in the same day. I don’t drink so that helps.
I fly from Florida, stay in Culver City, do this for about 3 games a year. Doing it for the eagles, broncos, and texans game this year. Would have done it for the Chiefs game, but we were robbed a home game 😒😭
Drive in and stay in Newport Beach in hopes of running into Justin while he’s fishing 🤷♂️.
In all seriousness I have found Newport Beach to be a good spot for the family and me. We work out transport from there for game day that works out pretty well every time
I’m from daygo have never been to rams stadium to watch the chargers but I’d drive for sho
Hey I just want to note for anyone that is interested in staying that there is a legendary but relatively unknown place downtown called the Los Angeles Athletic Club. It’s been there since 1880. It’s 12 floors and all of the walls are adorned with great sports memorabilia through the ages.
I personally love it dearly. It is my gym that I go to every day and my “3rd space”. The health facilities are excellent and the bars and food options are nice.
If you ever want to stay the night in LA for a game then check out the LAAC.
OG SD native since 1980 now in Corona. We just cut across the 91 and we are there in an hour. Leave with 10 min in the 4th and we’re out of traffic and home in an hour as well.
I am a season ticket holder and live an hour away in Orange County. If I was flying in and wanted to make a couple days of it, I would stay in a hotel near to the stadium like Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Marina Del Rey or Santa Monica. The stadium and Bolt training facility are top notch, but the area around the stadium itself isn’t nice. I would never stay there. But those towns in mentioned are all nice, along the beach, pretty close to the stadium, and there is plenty of other things to see and do. Ie. You can go to Santa Monica pier or to Malibu, or Venice, or take a walk on the strand in manhattan or Redondo beach. Etc. It’s also near the airport. Stay out of downtown if you ask me.
The hotels by the airport are pretty slick
I’m in the Bay Area. Fly in and out same day for day games. Stay overnight for evening games. Sofi to LAX is relatively easy.
Depends. If it’s just me, I’ll fly in from Sacramento and fly back directly following the game. If I’m going with a buddy we’ll make a weekend of it.
Drive up from San Diego for the day only.
I stay for at least 4 days and make a real trip out of it. Last time I stayed on the beach in Laguna.
The drive is 8 1/2 hours. We’ve stayed in Ventura, Long Beach, Newport Brach, San Clemente, and Carlsbad.
When my wife, son and I went last year, we flew and stayed out towards Orange County at a VRBO and did Disneyland too, as it was my birthday.
If the game was the focus of the trip, I’d try to stay near LAX.
