Manchester United have signed the likes of Mason Mount and Juan Mata from Chelsea in the past. Will we see someone else make the direct move from Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford this summer, though?

The reality is that the Blues need to offload plenty of players before the transfer window closes to leave Enzo Maresca with a reasonable squad size.

Blues striker Nicolas Jackson, 24, is someone who’s been linked with a potential move to Manchester. In fact, Man Utd recently held talks with Jackson’s agent about a possible summer transfer.

Fresh rumours indicate that Ruben Amorim’s Man Utd side have now enquired about another Chelsea first-team player.

Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku, 27, has had several transfer links to Man Utd in 2025. For instance, reports at the start of July claimed that Man Utd have been quoted £35m to sign Nkunku.

Now, journalist Simon Phillips reports via Substack that Man Utd made a fresh approach to sign Nkunku over the weekend.

Apparently, the French forward is still expected to leave West London this summer, and the Blues have even dropped his asking price slightly following the latest ‘enquiry’ from Man Utd.

Phillips adds that Chelsea would be prepared to sell him to a Premier League club amid interest from Man Utd, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, and Bayern Munich.

Even though Nkunku has struggled to his top form during his first two seasons at Chelsea, he’s proven elsewhere he can be a prolific goalscorer. On paper, we think that moving to Manchester to play in Amorim’s system could work, largely because he shines in a No.10 playmaker role.

The transfer speculation is growing louder around RB Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons joining Chelsea, and he would be an ideal replacement for Nkunku if he joins.

Chelsea are getting closer to signing Simons as they continue to negotiate a deal for the versatile 22-year-old attacker.

It should excite Blues supporters that Simons can operate effectively as a left-winger or as a No.10. Without a doubt, the Netherlands international could plug an important role in the squad, especially if Nkunku ends up leaving.

We would expect to see Simons competing with Jamie Gittens for a spot on the left wing, as well as covering for Cole Palmer in the central creative role.
