Rockies vs. Guardians Game Highlights (7/28/25) | MLB Highlights

Ben, we are just about ready to get underway here in downtown Cleveland after a lengthy rain delay of almost two and a half hours, but it looks like the rain has finally moved all the way through the area. The last few remaining sprinkles seem to have gone and now we should be smooth sailing the rest of the way as the Guardians try to get back on track. They’re a game under 500. They’re eight back in the central, but just three and a half back in the wild card. We’ve got a guy that’s been pitching very well who will tow the rubber tonight for the Guardians and that’s Slate Sakone making his 13th start. He has a record of five and four. He’s pitched much better on the road, but he’s one and two in this ballpark. He is making his second start against the Colorado Rockies. And he beats this one into the ground. The shorts stop Ryan Rokio throws him out. One down. Two pitches, one down. Mickey Monia, the batter for Colorado. Here’s the 1-1. Swung on. lined on one hop to the second baseman Schneman. He’s up with it. Throws on to first for the out. Hunter Goodman. He steps in. Smashed to short. Big hop though for Rokio and he’ll throw him off. The Rocks go in order. The Guardians are coming to bat. Bradley Bllelock. And uh fellas, Block’s coming off a fine performance. But I like the fact that he’s changing around the slider and the splitter usage keeping hitters off balance. Juan swings, pops it up. Foul ground. third base side. Kyle Farmer has room and makes the catch right in front of the camera bay for out number one. Anhel Martinez and this is to short. RCA with the play. Two outs as Jos Ramirez comes up. Swing and a miss. Got him with a high fast ball. Good start for Bradley Bllelock. No score after one. It’ll be Jordan Beck leading off for the Rockies. And that’s a bullet through the middle for a base hit. Rocky’s first hit, their first base runner tonight. Here is Tyro Estrada, the Rocky’s second baseman. Been a frustrating year for Estrada injury-wise. Double play ball turn on to Santana just in time to turn two. Sakone’s been doing that the last couple times where he gets a lot of ground balls and they’re able to turn them. And here you go. Second inning, you get it after a nice base hit and they turn the double play. So, two outs, nobody on and warming Bernabel is a hitter for the Rockies. Here’s his 10. And that’s swung on and drilled to center right there. Martinez makes the catch. So, the pitch count very much well in order. Under 20 pitches through the first two innings for Slade Sakone. And for the Guardians, Kyle Manzardo steps to home plate and he stays locked in. Base hit left field. I he had that stroke in Kansas City. You know, a nice line drive stroke over the shorts stop set. That’s where a lot of base hits and doubles can come from for this young man. That’s the Guardian’s first knock of the night. Well, now Carlos Santana coming to the plate. Slow chopper up the middle. Might be good for a CNI single and it will be. How do you like them apples? So, the first two aboard for Daniel Schne got him splitter. Go. That’s the second strike out. And with one out, that’ll bring up Nolan Jones. And Nolan taps it to the right side. This going to be a tough play. And a really good looking play by Warming Burnabel. Not a ton of reps in the minor leagues at first base. That was a really good play. Ryan Rochio now swing and a miss. Got him with that fast ball. Bradley Bllelock gives up two hits. comes back with a couple strikeouts and no damage done. Brenton Doyle back in the lineup for the Rockies. Leads off here in this third inning looking to bunt. Puts a bunt up that third base side. Gets by the pitcher. Grabbed by Ramirez. Throw not in time. Great bunt by Brentton Doyle. Did not play in this series in Baltimore. So, first action on the road trip. And the first pitch he sees a bunt base hit to Doyle at first with nobody out. Again, good speed at first and Kyle Farmer is the hitter. Welcome back Ryan Ritter. They got both. Wow. Second double play. I think they’re going to challenge this. I I thought Farmer was safe at first, but still great great play by Rokio. Great turn by Schneman. That’s so close. But Kyle, he did hit the middle of the bag. If he hits the front, he’s definitely safe. After review, the call on the field is overturned. The runner is safe. Colorado will retain their challenge. Here is Orlando Arcia and a base hit to right. This is going to go down the line toward the wall. Farmer heading to third. Andy Gonzalez is going to stop him there. It’s a one out double for Arcia. And the Rockies have a little something going. Second and third, one out with Freeman coming up. This ball toward right center field and it is tracked down out there by Nolan Jones tagging and coming home is Farmer and the Rockies take a one- nothing lead. Here comes the 01 to Goodman. He swings and bounces it to third. Smothering stop by Ramirez to his feet. Low throw. Good scoop by Santana in time for the out. Nice play on both sides. Yeah, put a star next to that one. Jose Ramirez showing a lot of range so he’s able to cut that ball off and then one hops it over to Carlos Santana. Santana picks it cleanly. Nice play by the corner defenders. Kyle Benzardo will lead things off against Bradley Bllelock. Bradley’s allowed three hits. He has three strikeouts as well. Last two starts for Bradley have been terrific. That’s a strike out. That’s number four as Menardo’s gone. And it’ll bring up Carlos Santana. Carlos had an infield hit. Swinging a drive towards center. Doyle coming on. Still coming on. Dives and makes the catch. Made his big league debut here in Cleveland two years ago. The two-time Gold Glover flashes some leather. Two outs here in the Cleveland fourth and he gets one on Schneean. Boy, he’s got it going. Five strikeouts in the first four shut out innings. Little help from the center fielder as well. One- nothing Rockies. Backto back walks allowed by Sakone. Very unusual for him. Top of the lineup now. Tyler Freeman steps in. 0 for one with a sack fly. They figured they was for each other. This ball to deep left and it is up on the wall somehow as a runner is going to score. Quat caught it with his bare hand and now the flip to third is not going to get Orlando Aria. What a heads up play by Arcia. A runscoring single for Freeman that went about 360 ft. Unfortunately, then he makes an errand throw that allows Orlando to get to third base. Austin Hedges with a base hit. Makes it first and second with only one out. And it’s back to the top of the lineup where Steven Quan in the air shallow left. Beck coming on. Still coming on. And it’s going to be the third baseman Farmer with his back to the infield who made the catch. And Kyle Farmer with a wonderful play to get out number two. Two outs, nobody on. Warming Bernabel is line to center. He hit a soft line out to short. This ball hammered high and deep left field. Take a good look. You won’t see it for long. Bernabel’s second major league home run in game number three. And it’s three nothing Rock Show. Oh, he spun this around in a hurry. Well, he’s found three barrels tonight and he finally has a hit to show for it. It’s a hit with four bags. Lillock now going back two starts. Sully 16 innings. He’s allowed just three runs. Hard shot, but it is right at Bernabel. He’s everywhere. One out. Cal Manzardo now. The DH swing and a miss. He got him. Second time he stretched out Monzardo tonight. And Bradley Blade again wrecking up the strikeouts tonight here in Cleveland. That’s his sixth tonight. That’s a careerhigh for Bradley. The one two swung on and that’s lined to shallow center. That’ll get down for a base hit. Santana is aboard with a two out single. His second hit on the night. Now that brings up Daniel Schneman and a swing and a miss. Got him with that high fast ball. He has struck out three times tonight. Jake Bird comes on for his 45th appearance. What a night for Bradley Bllelock. Backto back walks and the Guardians have a couple of base runners to open the seventh. Still trailing three nothing, but they have something brewing here in the seventh. He got it deep right field. Moniac back. He’s out of room. It’s out of here. Brand new ball game. 02 pitch. And he hung it and Bo killed it. And with one swing, we are tied at three. Four straight have reached to open the bottom of the seventh for Cleveland. And Warren Schaefer is now going to make the move. Victor Fodnik right-hander. Two singles and an intentional walk to load him up. And suddenly it’s 3 and0 to Santana. And that wasn’t even close really. That forces in a run and gives Cleveland the lead four to three. Now here’s 43 Cleveland. First time tonight they’ve led as they’ve scored four times here in the seventh. Swung on, lined up the middle, base hit center field. It’ll only score one. Martinez comes down the line, makes it a 53 game. Hunter Gatis and the first pitch is swung on and hit high in the air to deep center. But now Martinez coming in a little bit to make the catch. One pitch, one out. Hunter Goodman old for three tonight. This ball is hammered to deep left and it’s a one-run game. Hunter Goodman has hit it out. 19th of the year for Hunter. And the road show for 15 continues on. Kate Smith is on to try and close it out for the Guardians. Warming Bernabel who homered earlier in the game who swung on and that’s drilled high and deep to left. Back is Quan. He’ll have to play it. But the ball has disappeared. It did not go over the wall. but it’s stuck in the padding midway up that 19 ft high wall. So, Bernabels’s at second base with a double tying run in scoring position. Brenton Doyle bunts to Smith. Third base side of the mound. Smith throws it away. That will allow a run to score. And Doyle’s on his way to second and he’s in standing up there. Five game. Second and third. One out. by five. Top of nine and a base hit to right. Doyle has scored. Here comes Farmer gets a stop sign. 65 Colorado. Have a night against your former club Tyler Freeman. A three RBI night. Left-hander Tim Herren is on to pitch for the Guardians. Mickey Monia against Tim Heron. And Mickey hits a fly ball to plenty deep enough center field you would think. Farmer tags. Here he comes and Kyle has scored the seventh Rocky run. And Hunter Goodman has a little bit to do with it, too. I mean, it did put a big jolt of life back into the Rockies dugout with the homer in the eighth inning. Highf fly ball deep left field. Did he get another off the very top of the wall around third coming home is Freeman? And the Rockies have a three-run lead. Rockies up 8 to5. And in the bottom of the ninth, Seth Halverson will look to produce another save. And catchers indifference allow Schne to advance to second. Base hit right field. Schne will come to the plate. Indifference again as they were not holding him on Rokio who’s one for three with a walk. Yes, he’s got him. Bar game over as the Rockies ultimately come from behind and win 8-6.
