Andrew McCutchen Hits Historic Home Run in Win | Pirates vs. Giants Game Highlights (7/28/25)

on the hill tonight. Making his major league debut wearing the debut patch will be Carson Wizenhut. Wizenh Hunt 6’3, 215 pounder. He’s 24 years of age out of Winston Salem, North Carolina. This is what he did this year in 18 starts, 8 and five with a 442 ERA. The average ERA in the Pacific Coast League is 5.32. So he’s almost a point under league average. And an 86 strikeout against 28 walks. The family is up to check out the first pitch. His mom Andy, his his dad, Dennis, and he’s got his sister Jenna and his brother Dalton. They are here. And they have brought the pompoms as you could imagine. Tommy Fam hitting 262. Drives this one to center field. Jung Oi. Well, just a routine fly ball to center field to start the game. Not a problem. That’s how this game get started. Now a change up. lifted high in the air to center over toward right center a bit now coming in a bit out in a bright sunshine. Jung Julie makes the catch on that one. So two down. So now two outs for Nick Gonzalez in that three spot today. No Brian Reynolds. There’s a drive to left field. Hit deep to the track to the wall and clear the deck. Cannonball coming for Nicki G. Gonzalez greets Wizen Hunt with a home run. His fifth. that change up that’s got so much swing and missa in big leagues it’s obviously a big divide but now Nick Gonzalez the first change up he sees and hits it a long way so here’s Odell Cruz he struck him out with a change up and he got a couple of swing throughs on that change up from the left-handed hitting O’Neal Cruz numbers for Mitch making his 22nd start 125 innings 97 punch outs just 30 walks shot up the middle for a base hit. Well, that line drive is right on Q. Cruz going to cut it off and hold Ramos to a single. Two down. Ramos still at first. Here’s Matt Chapman. Had two home runs here last night. Down the right field line and diving and it gets by Cano and this is going to tie the game. Chapman is on the move. He’s going into third and this game is tied. Once Canario sold out, that was it. But you know what? If I’m on the mound and it’s early in the game, I I want that guy to to gamble. Canario, I mean, he was in route to the ball, still trying to protect his vision to get a good look. Well, now a base hit might give San Francisco a two-run lead. Swing, fly ball right field. Canario comes in on it and he’ll make a catch and that ends the inning. So, the Giants get a run strand two in scoring position. Threw an inning from San Francisco. All nodded at one. So back-to- back walks, which if you look at what Wizard Hunt has done in the minor leagues, this is something that he does not do. So maybe still trying to fight some adrenaline. Here is Isaiah Ker Falefa, 266 hitter with a home run. Fly ball left center field, hit pretty deep to the wall and hits off the wall. Ker Falefa into second base with a two-run double and the Pirates regain the lead right away. It’s three to one. Both walks are going to score. Ouch. And ouch. And you say, “Well, it’s a number nine hitter.” That’s right. You know what they call a number nine hitter up here? A big leager. Really, when you think about it, Wizard Hunt’s lucky that ball didn’t go out of ballpark. Fan a fly ball to deep center field. It’s the first hitter that Wizen Hunt face. And that’s hit hard into left field. And the Pirates will get another run out of this. Or they should as Kora will score. And the ball gets past the catcher Bailey. And the Pirates take a 4-1 lead in the second inning. Another change up that’s left up out over the plate. The great approach by these Pirate hitters. And whizzing went to the plate. Fast ball struck in swing. Good one on the outside corner, but two walks get the Pirates rolling in this inning. And they both turn into runs. And now the Giants have two on and nobody out for the number nine man Brett Wisley coming up. Wisely a left-handed batter at 205 with a home run. Swing. There’s a highf fly ball out toward triples alley. Canario got a late break. Still going back. He can’t get to it. It bounces on the winding track and hops over the wall. An automatic double. So Yremsky scores. Bailey would have scored had the ball stayed in play, but he has to stop at third. And the Giants have one of those runs back right away. Here is Adamus with the bases loaded. One out. Base hit could tie this game. And the Giants are trailing four-2. Swing and a base hit to right field. Softly hit coming in to score. Bailey Wisley will stop at third. The throw comes in from very shallow right from Canario over the second base. So it’s four to three. Will Dallas. That pitch may have been a foot outside. So here’s Chapman swinging a miss. Struck him out and Keller gets a big strike out with the bases full. And it was a big strikeout. A good look at a offspe pitch that got him chasing down at the bottom of the zone. Strike three call. Froze him with an inside fast ball. And after the bases were loaded, Keller gets backto back strikeouts to limit the damage. Cabrera, his second inning of work out of the Pirates bullpen. And the 10 pitch is hit to center field and well hit. Cruz going back. Still going back and he will watch it go over his head. It hits off the bottom of the wall and starts a carum back towards the infield. Cruz will play the carum and then wind up and fire one toward third. Elliot Ramos stops at second, but Elliot’s got his second hit tonight. It’s a one-out double. Tying run at third. Two down here in the bottom of the fourth. Adamus, who had an RBI hit in the second inning, swings it, lines one into left field, base hit. He’s got another one. Ramos in to score. The Giants tie the game at four. Well, it’s good to see that the hit that has been so lacking for the Giants with another hit with a runner in scoring position and another one with two outs. Adamus the two out RBI hit to score Ramos and tie the game. Johan Ramirez has come in this game and given up the hit to Adamos. He’s hit Chapman and he’s walked Jung-ho lead. Another walk drawn by the Giants. The bases are loaded for Wilmer Flores. swinging a soft ground ball up third and Hayes will take to the bag and get the force at third base to end the inning. [Applause] But Kutchen is going to lift one out to Mike Ystreky. This is the debut for Carson Wizenhut. The one thing that they absolutely had to have out of it was at least four innings. Fast bounced to first. Divers to his right. Has it throws the second one. Adamos tries to get back to first, but nobody quite there yet. Both Devers and the pitcher Wizen Hunt were headed back to the bag, but they got the lead runner. Fam at second. Swing. Hard ground ball to second to his left under the outfield grass. Wisley’s got it and throws him out at first. That’s the 85th pitch of the night from Wizard. Maybe his last one. His family and friends who are hitter, eight or 10 of them, give him a standing ovation as do a lot of other Giants fans behind the dugout. Carson Wizenhut got dinged up in the first two innings. Settled down. Did not allow anything after that. Here comes Andrew McCutchen. Whoa. You got something? You got a home run from Andrew McCutchen. His 10th to give the Pirates the lead. The 11th player in baseball history. They hit 10 or more in his first 17 big league seasons. Here’s the pitch. He grounds one to short. Adamus flips to second. That’s one. Wisely to first. A wide throw. And Devers comes off the bag, takes the throw, and tags Hayes as he tries to go by. Man, what a great play by Rafie Devers at first base cuz that was a really offline throw from Wisley. De just made a terrific play. So the Giants do get the double play. Right now it’s David Bedard trying to save this one. Willie Adamus leads off. Going to start things off with a soft serve. Serve single. double now just hugging the line and the tying run will come to the plate. Yeah, that was a really good at bat from Adamus. Uh you know covering a lot of plate that’s a split that’s down and away. An absolute perfect pitch. Barely fair as you see hitting the foul line, swinging a little flare out to right, hanging up there for Sinsky. He’ll make the catch. Adamus tags and heads to third and he’ll get in standing now with one out. All you’re doing now is to look to make sure you get the next two guys out. Leo 0 for two with two walks tonight. Left-handed batter and a wide drive base hit to left field. Adamus is in to score to make it a one-run game. Lee stops it first as Fam gets it back in. Third time tonight that Lee has been on base. Just flipped that high fast ball out over the head of the third baseman and into left field and the RBI. So, he’s the possible tying run. And here’s Wilmer Flores who’s 0 for four. Swing light drive base hit to left field. He got a curve ball and he jumped on it and it was not a bad one. He had to go down and kind of golf it. I think it was going to be below the knees. The possible tying run. Lee now at second base ace. And Moss the pinch runner the possible winning run at first and out away from a Pirates victory. So now here is Patrick Bailey bouncing ball right side and on the first raise the Jolly Roger. That is a1 career saves for David Bedar and maybe the hardest working save of all of them. Just the Pirates 14th win away from PNC Park this

The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the San Francisco Giants 2-0 at Oracle Park on July 28, 2025. Nick Gonzales hit his x home run of the season to get the Bucs on the board and Andrew McCutchen became 1 of 11 players to hit 10 home runs in their first 17 seasons. David Bednar picked up his x save of the season.
