Indianapolis Colts – Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones look good – again!
hot out there today. A little bit of heat, a little those guys, but you know what? For almost two hours, they kept their composure mostly. They uh did their work and and I thought at a high level today. So, this is day six of Colts camp. And Anthony Richardson looked good again. I thought Daniel Jones looked good today. The other quarterbacks, you kind of saw where Riley Leonard is, where Jason Bean is. Those two guys kind of battling for that third spot. Maybe one one winds up on the roster, one winds up practice squad. That’s not really the way the Colts tend to do it, but it could work out that way this year. Uh there was a little dust up, not a big one. It was Grover Stewart, Jonathan Taylor, and Jonathan Taylor’s got the ball, kind of turned the corner. There’s Big Grover. Grover picked him up and threw him down. Jonathan Taylor did not like that. He got up and threw his hands into the chest of Grover Stewart, which had no effect whatsoever on the positioning of Grover Stewart. Grover Stewart, like Tanner Bordellini said the other day, is a whole lot of man. Taylor is going to have to hit him hard to get him to move a little bit. And that’s not what was happening today. I thought actually it was a good day for Michael Pitman Jr. He made some catches. Alec Pierce back on the field. That’s a good thing. AD Mitchell. They targeted AD Mitchell a lot today and he looked pretty good. So, we we’ll see. We’ll see if that carries over. There’s no question. And then this keeps coming up with the coaches. Came up with Jim Bob Cter today, the offensive coordinator. No question that Ad Mitchell’s got all the physical ability in the world to play in the NFL. What he’s got to figure out is whether it’s worth it to him to put his hands on the ball and control it when he’s going to get driven by a defensive back or a linebacker. He’s got to figure that out. I thought Tyler Warren was really interesting today. They’re deploying him all over the place. They got him split wide. They got him in line. They got him um kind of as an Hback type thing where they put him in motion once in a while. Other times he’s a lead blocker for Jonathan Taylor. They’re going to utilize that guy in a lot of different ways. And this is different. And I talked to Jim Bob Cter about it last year. You know, what about a fullback in this offense? Wouldn’t it be nice to have a fullback in this offense? And he kind of looked at me. I couldn’t tell whether he appreciated the question or hated the question. I just know that he didn’t want to answer the question. Um, so that’s kind of what we got. Patrick, what’s Patrick got to say? Uh, Patrick says, “Does Alec get a new contract before the season starts? How does how does Jaylen Jones look? Jaylen Jones looks fine. And and the thing with Alec Pierce, you know, it takes two to tango, right? And Alec Pierce is into what what year is this? This is year four of Alec Pierce’s career. And the quarterback situation in every single year has been really unsettled. And I think the question isn’t really whether the Indianapolis Colts want Alec Pierce. I think it’s whether Alec Pierce trusts the Indianapolis Colts and their ability to get this quarterback situation kind of settled down and get one guy who throws Alec Pierce the ball over and over and over again. You know what I mean? Like money is one thing, but the memories of your career if all you’re doing is running 40 yard gasers every single snap and and you got a quarterback who’s going to get you the ball, what do you got? 33 34 catches last year for 800 and some odd yards. 20 22.3 yards per catch. That’s a big deal. But not a not a guy who’s targeted, you know, more than three times a game and gets about two catches a game. That isn’t going to sit well with a guy and he’s going to want assurances that he can do more for the team than he’s being allowed to do. That’s a good question. But I in some cases, you know, it’s not all always about money. With Bernard Ryman, I think it was about respect. It was about getting the amount of money that he felt and his agent felt he deserved to stay here. He said today he always wanted to stay here. That was part of the deal. He wanted to be a Colt, but they had to get the money right. So, they got the money right. uh he is not facing a der of opportunities to play left tackle in the National Football League. Alec Pierce isn’t facing a der opportunities to get on the field and play, but he is facing a der of opportunities to get the football in his hands in a place where he can do something with it. And he has really made progress. I mean, he’s moving much more fluidly. So, I I would expect and I believe that the Colts are being aggressive with Alec Pierce. I don’t know whether that’s what Alec Pierce wants. Is that what you would want? Put yourself in Alec Pierce’s spot. Is it all about cash or is it getting out on the field and putting together a career that has some historical relevance and meaning? Kind of interesting. By the way, great job, Patrick. Wonderful question. And uh that reminds me to remind you to subscribe because you can’t win a prize if you don’t. You’ve got to be eligible to win a prize. And to be eligible, you got to be a subscriber. And you have to use the phrase that pays. And today’s very, very sad phrase that pays is RIP Rhino. R Y N O. Ryan Sandberg passed away last night of cancer. And we’re bummed about it. So we want to acknowledge Ryan Sandberg with our phrase that pays today, which serves as your entry into the contest, a series of contra contests that we’re having every single Monday afternoon where we got prizes like an autographed Jack Young Bloodood jersey. We’ve got an autographed 8×10 by Pton Manning. We’ve got an autographed Goose Gosage Cubs jersey. We have uh a nonautographed uh Xavier Johnson number zero reversible uh kind of practice jersey utilized at Indiana University basketball. We have a uh we have an autographed helmet, a Chicago Bears helmet autographed by the great Mike Brown who was a terrific safety back in the day for your not your but somebody’s Chicago Bears. Maybe the Macasis are watching and I’m being literal that it’s their Chicago Bears. All right. Uh and if you want to make a donation, make a donation. No big whoop. But make sure and do what Patrick did. ask a question or uh make a comment that raises the level of discourse on the channel. All right. I I thought really the uh the offense was ahead of the defense today. I think Jonathan Taylor looks pretty good. Cameron Mcronone injured injuries are starting to kind of rear their head as they do with every workout you have another opportunity for uh injury. And the deeper you go into the workouts and they went deep today almost a full two hours. you got a better chance for injury. That’s the way it works. That’s football. Nobody critically injured. And I I’m not talking about in the terms like they use on TV, you know, three critically injured in a shooting on the north side. No, but injured so that they’re going to miss so much time that being ready for the opener is going to become a problem. It seems like none of the injuries are critical in that way. Um the O line and Dline went against each other and Bernard Ryman played like a guy who’s worth or practiced like a guy who’s worth $100 million over the next four years. Um I thought Lu looked pretty good. I thought uh JT Tui Molo looked really good. I think he looks interesting. The thing with the thing with Lu is that you know he’s not coming with power, right? So you got to be able to move your feet. It’s a dance with Lu. With Tui Molo, you got a guy who can power you. He He doesn’t have a lot of finesse. So, he’s kind of the opposite of Lu though. If if you could put Lu and and JT together into one uh very very talented edge rusher, I I think that guy would have about 25 sacks. But, uh Tui Molo is kind of a kind of a beast. He can get up field on you and and if you’re not ready, I if you think it’s going to be a dance and you’re there to dance, he’s going to knock you down your ass. That’s what he’s going to do. Um the I I thought Braden Smith had a little bit of a tough time against Quiddyp Pay, which was interesting. And uh I thought Buckner Bordellini didn’t look like anything today against Solvis. And uh I think Taekquin Lewis, Taekwon Lewis looks good again. like last camp, he looked really good, too. So, I thought I think that that’s interesting. I think the Dline looks nice. And I think the offensive line actually looks pretty good, too. I think this offense, like when it was when I was putting together the list, I shared this morning of offensive weapons and ranking them. On the original list, I didn’t have a tight end because this is the Colts. And why would you have a tight end? You know what I mean? Now you got tight end. Like that’s that’s an interesting Tyler Warren is an interesting very versatile piece of an offensive puzzle that is going to give headaches to defensive coordinators. So that’s about it today. Uh any other questions, any other thoughts? We’ll just wrap up by saying tomorrow night’s practice or not tomorrow, Thursday night’s practice, 8:00 p.m. runs until 1000 p.m. And then there will be stuff after that. Guys are going to set uh sign autographs, that kind of thing. It’s going to be much cooler. Maybe maybe it’ll be after the storms that are expected on Thursday, which would be nice. Hate to have the the evening practice indoors. That’d kind of suck, wouldn’t it? Uh, but we’ll see. What do I think? Uh, how do I think? Wait, sorry, I didn’t see it. What do I How do I think Leonard looked? Which Leonard? Shaquille Leonard. No longer with the club. Do we have another Leonard? Am I spacing who that Leonard might be? I don’t know. That’s an interesting way to like flumx a uh a YouTube host. Ask a question that isn’t like when you’ve got a roster of like 80 guys, you know? Uh all right, hold on here. Oh, Riley Leonard. I I He didn’t look great. He looked like a third string guy. You know, the same way that Sam Ellinger always looked. Everybody wanted Ellinger to play and and thought that he could be the guy. Same thing with Chad Kelly. Same thing with like PJ Walker. You have these guys, these third strength guys. Jacob Een, I was kind of a honk for Jacob Een. Um, you know, what he can do is he can run. Jason Bean can run too, both those guys. But standing back there, seeing a receiver who’s about to come open before he comes open, being able to anticipate that and make the throw prior to the cut, that’s not in his game right now, and that’s where he’s got to make strides. Good, good question. I’m glad you’re not crazy. I’m glad I’m not crazy. All right. Uh we will talk to you later today inside Indiana sports now and you’ll hear today and tomorrow from the coordinators Jim Bob Cter and Lou Anarumo. You’ll also hear from Daniel Jones and Bernard Ryman and Leatu Latu. All right, see you in a little bit.
Colts Camp Day Six allows depth piece to get some run! Also shows Richardson’s day yesterday was no fluke.
