Wrote an article discussing the off-season. Super pumped for the 2025 season. Last year was super refreshing with Mike Macdonald but this year feels like we are going to get a good idea of what a Macdonald team should feel like.

What’re your guys expectations for the season?

  1. I expect to lose more games than last year but fans to be okay with it because all the moves they made….

Which will make me pissed because the whole reason to make roster moves is to make a better football team. Going backwards doesn’t sound good to me.

  2. Expect the defense to be easily top 10. The run game should improve tremendously. The less pressure we put on our pass game, the better.

Easier schedule than last season too so I’m expecting at least 10 wins

  3. Good article. Tear downs create space. I think it also destroyed the rehashing of expectations (partially why this sub may have went quiet this offseason), and brings in more realistic expectations.

Like a diversified portfolio, I think we are moving away from depending on only a few core players (Geno, DK) for the time being, and that allows a true growth-stage for younger players to take on bigger roles. Aligned with that is a longer window for SB aspirations. And with that time- and financial space, we can fill in any holes with another draft or free agency, while not feeling overwhelming pressure to win immediately.

  4. I think alot of fans are really overlooking the loss of Geno, DK, and Lockett. They were basically holding that offense together with tape as bad as it was.

I am optimistic the offense will be better but if it isn’t its not like I’ll be surprised. As good as Darnold was last year I still think Geno is better.

  5. Regardless of how you feel about the trades/off season stuff, you have respect John for giving his coach the keys to make HIS team. Geno was Pete’s guy and DK wasn’t worth the antics. Only thing is I would of liked to keep Lockett and don’t really agree with the Kupp signing, but both of pros/cons.

If Emmanwori and Arroyo hit (I’m not worried about Zabel) + Darnold looks like he did last year we will be so fucking scary.

  6. I heard a rumor that most 12’s yourn to run the ball and play good defense

  7. There are too many unknowns going into this season, really, to get a decent idea of where things will end up. Frankly, I think the team will do poorly … then again, I thought last year they would go 7-10.

It’s just so much is dependent on Darnold and Kubiak not being ass at what they do.

The defense hasn’t really had much in the way of upgrades and got embarrassed when they went up against playoff-bound teams, and struggled against bad teams at times. Their most dominant performance was against Miami, who was, at one point, playing their third-string quarterback.

I have to say that I do find it amusing that a lot of the “if it’s not a Super Bowl win, the season is a failure” people are now telling us that the team is rebuilding, Super Bowl window is longer, and so on.

  8. I think there is a lot of optimism here,  but it is a really good article!

  9. I think “burn it down” is a really strong word for what happened. We dumped like 2 big names in Geno and DK and that’s about it. DK is good and I don’t think anyone can argue that but college wideouts continue to be really good options year 1 and Geno wanted a contract JS wouldn’t give him.
