On July 29, 1995, the NFL’s two expansion teams, Panthers and Jaguars, took the field for the first time in the 1995 Hall of Fame Game. The Panthers won this matchup 20-14. They went on to finish their inaugural regular season with a 7-9 record, playing all their home games at Clemson University.

  1. I need a Panthers historian for this question. There was a preseason game against the Jaguars, I think, where at the end we let them score so we could try and drive for the winning score with the remaining time.

Does anyone else remember that or am I suffering from some weird memory distortion?

  2. And every time the Panthers play the Jaguars in Jacksonville in week 1, they end up going to the Super Bowl. Carolina’s week 1 opponent this year? Jaguars. Wonder if history’ll repeat itself

  3. We stopped at a hotel during our road trip so we could watch some of the game

  4. it was the Hall of Fame Game, first preseason game for the league. Jax was also an expansion team that year, and I really wanted us to win, not only because it was our first game ever, but for bragging rights with the Jaguars. Our QB was Frank Reich. They had a QB who got hot, looked really game. Mark Brunell or something like that. But we won.
