Juan Soto is called out on an unbelievably bad strike call

Ump even added a dramatic pause before making the bs call
The pitcher is upset at himself for missing.
Ump is in with Clase and Ortiz.
ABS ABS!
Such BS
Tonight’s ump is especially bad. Worst I’ve seen in a long time.
Bad call, not unbelievably so.
Is it unbelievable ? What’s the definition of the strike zone ?
Ball 2 call in Os game is 100x worse
No accountability for these BS umps. Angel Hernandez is that you?
I think he rung up Soto on a called strike 3 in his previous AB (on a pitch that was a strike right on the corner) and he didn’t like Soto’s reaction.
So he decided to fuck him over with the delayed strike 3 call here on a pitch a few inches over the zone.
The pitcher knew he fucked up that pitch until it was called a strike.
Umps box was all over the place the whole game
Probably the biggest ump show of the year
They are BEGGING to have their jobs taken by robots
ABS is going to be awesome! My hometown triple A team has it and it’s so fun when they go to the Jumbotron for a challenge.
These major leaguers have such an amazing grasp of the zone, if they keep emotion out of it, they will win at a 90% rate.
Umps better get better or they will get shredded on the spot.
You guys think ABS is spitting in the face of umpires. At this point they’re begging for it just as hard as you guys are. Every broadcast features statcast data in real time for every fan and every broadcaster to criticize every call. The managers have it. The players have it. The only person on the field who doesn’t have the real time feed back on every call is the umpire. And you guys sit here and shit on them for it. At this point it’s not fair to umpires for there not to be ABS.
Every day I see words like ‘abomination’ and ‘disgrace’ and ‘unacceptable’ from people who are looking at a box that represents pitches centimeters off the plate in obvious ways. If I’m an umpire today I want that feedback. I promise you the union isn’t fighting this.
You have no clue how hard it is to track those pitches and call them consistently and mlb umpires are insanely good at it. I’m tired of every mistake they make being called a failure of humanity by people who have all the feedback in the world in real time. Umpires feel the same way.
I dont see that language when hitters swing at pitches six inches off the plate. Or when pitchers can’t find the zone. Only when umpires miss by fractions of an inch.
That fan behind the plate with the massive “YUUUS!”
This is a bad call. It isn’t that bad of a call. The rectangle is massively off. This pitch is closer to his strike zone than the top of the zone is to this rectangle.
Part of why it looks weird is that Soto crouches into his load, but the strike zone is defined from his neutral stance. Decent frame job is probably what sold it.
I can’t believe I was ever a “human element” guy.

Borderline
enrico palazzo behind the plate
It’s at his elbow until he stands up completely and then it’s at his belt lol
That’s also a Larry Vanover level call delay. I hate when umps delay calls to try and play up drama. They really try to insert themselves as much as possible
Please MLB remove the stupid strike zone box from the broadcasts. It doesn’t help when it’s not fitted to each individual player during their at bat.
Thats really not that egregious. Is it a missed call? For sure. But its not **that** bad.
