That Gary Trent Jr contract was a steal.
Grimes is better. THAT much better? I’m not sure…. But grimes is better, gotta pay more money
Grimes as a starter throughout his career (127 games): **13.6/3.6/2.6** averages on **46.2/38.5/75.9** splits.
Grimes as a starter the last 2 years (55 games): **15.5/3.7/3.1** averages on **45.7/37.7/74.4** splits.
Trent Jr. as a starter throughout his career (210 games): **17.4/2.7/1.8** averages on **42/38/83.8** splits.
Trent Jr. as a starter the last 2 years (50 games): **15.1/2.8/1.6** averages on **42.2/38.2/82.4** splits.
Grimes is 25 years old. Trent Jr. is 26 years old. I really didnt like this executives’ take, but tbh, Trent Jr. has busted our ass plenty and these stats are not lying.
Grimes is a higher quality basketball player
Morey at it again
Max I would give Grimes is 15mil. Anything over that, overpay for a position of abundance. And I would bet at the end of the year, he is just a trade piece. VJ will be our starter sooner than expected.
At 15mil, I think he would still be a tradable piece for a starter four.
Mentioning Trent Jr wasn’t even necessary. The first part of the question was enough.
It’s definitely a valid question to ask, but at the same time in an ideal world both of these guys would get the contracts they are worth. Sadly that is not possible with the new CBA that has completely fucked over role players.
Reminds me of when I was shopping for cameras. The most popular options are around $500. If you want the luxury ones they’re around $2000, but it’s only about a 15% increase in quality. Definitely not 4x like the price.
Sometimes it costs significantly more to get that little bit of edge over the competition and that can be the difference.
> One person in the poll suggested a two-year deal (for $24 million). Eleven people proposed three-year deals. The total money for those were $30 million, $36 million, $39 million, $40 million, $42 million, $45 million (two), $45.7 million (which is the exact worth of the midlevel exception), $48 million (two) and $50 million. Four people mentioned four-year contracts: One for $60 million, one for $64 million, one for $72 million and one for $75 million.
The logic around headlines like this doesn’t hold up. WE can’t get Trent Jr. on a min deal because someone else already did. Basketball players aren’t a commodity and so each player controls their market. Sometimes you have to knowingly overpay for a variety of reasons; there isn’t an infinite pool of low-end starting guards that are interchangeable.
Its a normal Quentin. Find a new slant
Okay so he’s not worth 20 million… cool. But GTJ wouldn’t get a minimum in a similar contract situation so this is a stupid comparison.
This quote is really about the structure of league and isn’t related to the Grimes situation at all.
Well we aren’t gonna pay 20m. No one even seems to be bidding for him.
Grimes is 1 year younger and better…. Also for the 9000th time it doesnt matter if grimes is on a minimum or a max because we are so far over the cap why would we worry about money exactly? Hey lets get rid of the better younger player to save our billion dollar owner a couple bucks on the tax Lol
This has Olshey prints all over it.
