Aaron Glen and the Jets, Hall of Fame Draft, Expectations for Jordan Love and the Rams in 2025

to check back in with you in a
little bit regarding some injury
news out of Dallas, but until then, let’s continue down this
line with the New York Jets.
Aaron Glenn, as Tom just mentioned early, became the Jets
guy as the new head coach this
offseason. He is a welcomed culture change, perhaps for the
Jets. Why Isaiah is this guy
leading the league right now for the Jets to change their culture
similarly to the way that you
mentioned the Cowboys are looking to do with their new
head coach because they have
lacked culture, they have lacked consistency over years. When you
start talking about the New York
Jets or they haven’t had a winning season in nine years,
they haven’t been to the
playoffs in 14 years. These are guys that, over the last ten
years have had five head
coaches. Over the last ten years they’ve had 13 quarterbacks.
There’s been nothing consistent
about the New York Jets. And that’s not to say that they
don’t know what they’re doing.
That’s just to say that they need some stability. And Aaron
Glenn is that pinnacle of
stability for them right now. He did a heck of a job obviously in
Detroit. And now he’s bringing
that same culture, those same vibes, that same work ethic that
he had as a coach and as a
player. And he’s trying to establish something because the
Jets have not had anything
foundational in a very, very long time. That’s beautiful,
Zay, and I’m glad that you
started off talking about the culture of the Jets, because I’m
going to talk about the culture
of Aaron Glenn. I was on the team with him in New Orleans
when he was our secondary coach.
And let me tell you something, when Tom Pete said that he was
going to hold you accountable,
he’s going to hold you accountable. But the thing I
love about AG is AG is going to
hold his best players accountable. I can’t tell you
how many times we would come off
the sideline. We just had a great drive defensively and AG
is at the end of the bench
yelling at Marshon Lattimore because on the backside backside
of a play, he may have been
undisciplined a little bit. Or he was getting into some chippy
fights like he’s going to be on
everybody’s toes. He’s going to be on everybody’s heads trying
to make sure that they
understand that this is the standard to which we need to
operate. And so this is his
first head coach gig, his first head coaching stint. But from
what I know about Aaron Glenn is
he’s going to come in there and demand the ultimate level of
excellence going forward for the
Jets. And I’m excited for it. You hear culture change all the
time. Anytime there’s a coaching
change, there’s supposed to be a culture change. It’s one of
these phrases we just throw
around without even stopping to think what it even means. In the
Jets case, what culture are they
trying to change? I know they don’t win, but can we get into
the specifics of what Aaron
Glenn actually has to do? I break it down like this. There’s
a there’s this idea that in the
culture of the Jets, they’re undisciplined. And you look at
it, last year the Jets led the
NFL in penalties, not 30th, not 31st, 32nd. The year before
that, they led the NFL in
penalties 32nd. Like that’s ridiculous. Immediately that has
to change. What else hasn’t
worked. The run game has been underwhelming. Aaron Glenn’s
been a coach in the NFL for 11
years. Four times in those 11 years, he had a top ten run game
and run defense. That needs to
change. What else? The quarterback play has not been
good enough. Here’s the problem
I see and what concerns you. Maybe if you’re a Jets fan,
Aaron Glenn has had this run as
a coach this ascension up to becoming a head coach, and he
has done it with two
quarterbacks, Jared Goff and Drew Brees. You’re consummate
veteran, smooth pocket passers
who have seen everything and done everything. Is that Justin
Fields? No. That’s a wild
departure and maybe it works, but it is not how Aaron Glenn
got there, being part of teams
like that. Lastly, the culture change and the Jets need is that
the coach doesn’t work. And
let’s not forget this. We all think Aaron Glenn is a cool hire
at quote unquote wins the room.
Robert Saleh was an awesome hire. We were doing backflips
about that before that. Adam
Gase, before he became a meme, was considered a cutting edge
offensive coach. He had like Ben
Johnson vibes back then. Before that. Todd Bowles, a guy we
totally respect and who wins
every year now. These were not crazy off the wall hires. And
even before that, the last four
years of Rex Ryan were lousy. The coach has never been able to
get it going. And the Jets fans
wait, and they wait and they wait. And the irony is the Jets
playoff win. Bart Scott can’t
wait. That’s how long we’ve been going there. So we can say
culture change. That’s not about
rhetoric. And walking around in slow motion, twirling your
whistle. In practice, it’s like,
see you in September. Can you run the ball? Can you not jump
offsides? And is your
quarterback any good? Because that’s how it’s been for the
last decade and a half. And
that’s the culture change they need. It’s across the board. No
you’re absolutely correct KB and
I want to just kind of dive into that a little bit behind the
behind the scenes when we start
talking about culture in the game of football or in your
business or at home or whatever,
we’re talking about a belief, we’re talking about the values.
We’re talking about the
behaviors that mimic whatever it is that you’re trying to elicit.
And if you are the New York
Jets, you don’t have a foundation of that. We don’t
know who you are. What is your
calling card? When we when you step on the field against the
New York Jets, what is the
expectation they don’t have that. They don’t know who they
are at their at their ethos.
They don’t they don’t have that. So that’s what Aaron Glenn is
trying to do. So to your point,
Kyle, there is nothing that they have to change. Right? Because
they don’t have an identity.
He’s literally coming in and he is instilling it and creating it
from the ground level because
they don’t have anything that they have previously identified
with except for a change. Some
organizations, they have the diploma. Org to find free and
supportive adult education
centers near you. I’m just curious, like when you go and
watch the tape on Monday or
after the game, do you amaze yourself sometimes at some of
the things that you do without
thinking, just reacting? No, I don’t I don’t, you know, I’m
just trying to win the game at
the end of the day and trying to put my team in a great
situation. And each and every
time I’m on the field, I’m trying to score so we don’t
score. I’m pretty much ticked
off. I don’t care what I done. Did you know in that drive
before if we didn’t score, it
really don’t matter. And that’s just how I play to that point.
The other day you said, I’m only
28 years old. I’m just getting started. Yeah. Okay. So what’s
in store? A lot, a lot, you
know, sky’s the limit. As long as I’m playing. It’s the MVP,
runner up fromast season who
does some of the most remarkable things on the game. And just to
say, are you amazed at your own
highlights. No that’s Lamar Jackson. Everybody in the
Baltimore Ravens. What’s next
for this team within their division within t conference
as they are trying to accomplish
something they have yet to get over the hump on? Yeah, I want
to go back to what Lamar said
when he said, sky’s the limit. And I love Lamar. I’m a big fan
of him. You know, to Katie’s
point in the last segment, he is going to be in a Hall of Fame. I
truly believe that and I think
we all believe that here. If you’re an NFL fan, you think the
same. But I think in this, in
this reference, the Sky is the Chiefs because ever since Lamar
Jackson has been in the NFL, the
Chiefs have represented the AFC and AFC Championship every
single year. They’ve only lost
two of them. So when it comes to what is the limit and what has
been the limit, and this isn’t
the limit. Just with Lamar Jackson and the Ravens, this has
been the limit with everybody
else in the AFC. The Chiefs have won and controlled the AFC since
the time that Lamar got into got
into the league. So if I’m going to say there has been a certain
limit up to this point for
Lamar, it’s going to be the Kansas City Chiefs. And I’m
hoping I’m hoping that when they
do get to the playoffs, they can change that narrative in that
script. Lamar Jackson listen, I
love me some Lamar Jackson. I think he’s one of the most
dynamic players in the history
of the game. He is very unique. His talent sets are above most.
However, in order for what’s
next for Lamar Jackson, Lamar Jackson has had two MVP’s I
argue should have been three
MVP’s. It is what it is. Numerous really great players in
the league. However, what is he?
What’s next for him? He has to overcome his his his foes and
his foes are the Buffalo Bills
and the Kansas City Chiefs. What has he done versus the bills?
The bills? He’s two and two in
the regular season. He’s zero for one in the playoffs versus
the Kansas City Chiefs. He
hasn’t faced him in the playoffs, but he’s one of four
in a regular season. Those are
his arch nemesis. He has to overcome those guys. And while
he’s looking forward to trying
to chase them, there’s two teams behind him that are on the up
and coming. And that’s the
Chargers and the Texans. So he’s going to have to contue to
gain ground on those two teams
ahead of him while looking over his shoulder at those next teams
coming up as well. Yeah guys
listen the Ravens they got to win 2 or 3 playoff games. That’s
it. That’s it I hate to say it.
It’s jus reduced the regular season to meaningless. It’s not
meaningless. They’re going to be
good. You know it I know it. What are they going to do in the
playoffs? Lamar needs to play
his best game in the playoffs. You need to play his A-plus
ball. Because I’ll say this. We
keep mentioning Lamar for the Hall of Fame and I do think
he’ll be there. Not a lot of
Hall o Fame quarterbacks without a Super Bowl ring.
They’re in there. You can find
your Fran Tarkenton, your Dan Marino. It’s not really a club
anybody’s looking to be in. I
don’t know if they get a little sideways glances at the mixers
between those Hall of Famers.
When Terry Bradshaw’s got four and Brady’s got seven, he’ll be
in there someday. Peyton’s got
two. If you’re a Hall of Fame quarterback, you got a Super
Bowl ring. It’s just how it
should be. And listen, I’ve said this many times, Lamar is
fantastic. He’s great for the
league. He’s great for kids. He’s great for everybody. I
don’t think he’s great in the
playoffs. I don’t think he plays his best football when he does.
I don’t think they can stop him,
but until he doesn’t, I don’t know. It’s just we’re still
every year with the Ravens. It’s
like you guys are going to be great. Can you win in January a
bunch of times. We’ll see. I
wish I had a more creative take, preseason game of the 2025 NFL
season. It’s an intoxicating
thing to say out loud. It will be the Hall of Fame game, and it
will be awash in pageantry and
gold blazers as it is every single year. To that end, we are
going to honor Hall of Fame
Week, the Pro Football Hall of Fame in general by doing
something I don’t think we’ve
ever done on Good Morning Football. We are going to do a
Hall of Fame draft. We are going
to fill out rosters of Hall of Famers. All of us. We have four
of us here we’re going to do
this with. And here’s the deal. We’re going to draft a Hall of
Fame quarterback, a Hall of Fame
running back, a Hall of Fame wide receiver, a Hall of Fame
defensive player and a Hall of
Fame coach. We will do this snake draft style, one of each
category. You can draft them in
any order. And I will say for the audience, this is only Hall
of Famers that have already been
inducted. In other words, Tom Brady, not eligible, Larry
Fitzgerald, J.J. Watt. ET
cetera. ET cetera. If they have a blazer, they can be on your
roster. Without further ado, our
draft order is going to be Manti Te’o. Then Jamie Erdahl, Isaiah
Stanback with the three pick and
then myself. And it will snake. So I will start the second
round. Manti Teo, you are on the
clock and our Hall of Fame draft. I don’t even need a
clock, brother, because I’m
going. Everybody knows where I’m going with this, okay? There’s
going to be a theme. My number
one pick, quarterback Joe Montana. What college did he go
to? KB, Notre Dame, Notre Dame,
Irish, go Irish. That’s my first pick Joe Montana. Thanks for
giving me the first overall
pick. Jamie. Sister, you are next. I don’t know how the draft
order was selected, but I
appreciate it because anytime you know, when I draft, I have
this handy little emotional
doodad here and I’m not going to use it today because growth is
imperative as an adult. That
means that I have time between my picks. So with my first pick,
I’m picking Peyton Manning
because yeah, okay, I’m just going easy, okay? I’m going to
take my quarterback. And you’re
not supposed to do that fantasy draft. This is a fantasy draft.
Not panicking. Peyton Manning’s
my quarterback. Good job, good job, good job. Oh, you guys are.
You guys are cute. Oh, you guys
are cute. You guys know why you’re cute? Because I’m going
with the one man band on
defense, baby. I’m coming with Mr. L.T. Okay? Yeah. Give me the
earrings. I need the dangling
earrings. You know, the ones that shimmer and shake like
that? Yeah. Yeah, exactly. You
see the man right there? He was. Look at that. Whoa! Give me that
right there. What was your
favorite thing about L.T? Lt was an absolute beast. He’s. He’s
the one guy that you don’t want
to face. He’s somebody that everybody is fearful of. He was
Micah Parsons, times ten. He’s
just a just a just somebody that you just have to read all day
long. So good luck. Okay. All
right. Well, you got a red dot and I got to erase my marker
board because I had Lawrence
Taylor written there, but I will make the last pick of the first
round. I don’t know, like, could
this guy play any football? I’ll take Reggie White. There we go.
In the conversation with L.T.
The best defensive player or best overall player ever. We’re
seeing the Packers version where
of course, he was a free agent, won a Super Bowl by throwing
linemen and sacking Drew
Bledsoe. Completely dominant early on in Philadelphia. There
he is sacking another Hall of
Famer in Warren Moon. Reggie White is off the clock, folks,
and we are done with one round,
first round quarterbacks and two defensive players. But what you
have to have in a draft is you
have to have a system and a belief by which you stand by. So
I will do the same. The first
pick, hold on, the first pick of the second round. I’m already
dropping parts here of the
second round will be I’m just going to light up the sky. Guys.
Do it. Don’t hold on. Do it now.
Yeah, I know this guy wouldn’t make it past the second round.
You know I changed it again. I’m
coming right now. Hold on. Here. You want my panic button? No,
I’m almost there, though. Here
we go. There’s no way this guy would make it through the second
round. Don’t do it to me. Don’t
you do it. Oh! Come on. Okay, okay, okay. That was close. I
mean, guys, that was a close
one. If you didn’t have him next. What are we doing? He’s
the best overall football player
ever. I have Reggie White, I have Jerry rice. And if you ask
me, I have the lead. I don’t
even need to pick my third and fourth player. Isaiah, you’re
up. Okay, I like that. I like
that you went with the best receiver to ever do it. I’m
going to go with my favorite
player ever in the NFL. Ever ever. Mr. Barry Sanders baby
okay. Very good very good. Give
him the rock. It doesn’t matter who’s in front of him. He’s
gonna juke him. He’s gonna shake
the whole team. Look at that skirt. Nope. I’m going this way.
Nope. You need more people.
Thank you very much. I’m off to the house. Excellent. Excellent.
Take. I love that a lot of the
conversation, though, because I too am going to go running back
for my second round. I’m so
calm, cool and collected with this. My thoughts are not being
rattled whatsoever by Kyle
lecturing to us that we have to stand on principle with our
team. I’m going with Emmitt
Smith as my as my second round pick. I’ve got Peyton, I’ve got
Emmett. Emmett, great friend of
the show. Also, just a hell of a running back. Love to watch him
play Barry Sanders Emmitt Smith
not too shabby for a second round pick. I love my team. I
like that team. I like that
Jamie. I was going to go wide receiver, but my brother Kyle
Brandt went his direction. So I
know he’s not going to pick my wide receiver next round. So I’m
going to go running back okay.
Come on guys Jerome Bettis KB what college did he go to. What
college Notre Dame Notre Dame
baby we are fighting I love this team Notre Dame. That is a
matter of fact. You already know
what the receiver is going to be guys what college did he go to I
already know I know who it’s
going to be. I know who it’s going to be. Should I just go to
the third round? I’m going to
the third round. I’m going now. You’re just going to break the
draft. You got I know. Come on.
Number 81. Yes. Come on, do it. You can’t be doing. Cheer. Cheer
for old Notre Dame. Take down
the air. Goes to her name. All right, hold on. Let’s go. Come
on, Jamie, you’re up. Come on.
Jamie. Okay, okay. Thankfully, that meant. Oh, I like it. The
tune. This is easy. Look at zoom
in right there. Because air. Randy Moss baby. Put him in
there. Randy Moss. Yep. Yeah.
Jamie, you’re doing well. Yeah. Thank you Kyle. Oh my gosh
that’s the ultimate compliment.
Look at him 84 coming out of the tunnel. Yes. No panic yet. Let’s
go I see what you guys are doing
there I like that you guys are kind of staying home staying
true to who you guys are. But
the thing is you guys don’t have any direction. You guys are just
out there, just just just
aimlessly. Just. Just going about catching the ball, running
the ball, throwing the ball. You
guys need a coach Vince Lombardi baby. Okay? There’s only so many
of these that are in there. You
got to go get you a coach to lead your squad baby. Let’s roll
okay. Good. That’s a good one.
All right. Here we go. So far, just to remind everybody I have
already drafted Reggie White and
Deion Sanders. So I have defense. No no no Reggie White
and Jerry rice. Excuse me. God
I’m a mess in this segment today. I’m usually good. I need
my panic button. And Jerry
acting like me. We got you flustered. I know, I’m sorry.
I’m apologizing. I’m so excited
about. We’re all. So I’m going to go listen. Study, bruh. I
have I have a receiver and I
have a defensive player and now I have a running back. Guys, I’m
sorry to tell you that number
34, Walter Payton is off the board. Nice. I’m so excited
about my squad. My squad is
vintage. I got guys going back to the 80s. I got guys going
back to the 90s. And I have
number 34 on the damn astroturf. Holding the ball like he doesn’t
care into the end zone. Walter
Payton concludes our third round here. Here’s our three round
draft so far. I’m going to do a
little bit of analysis because we have two rounds left. All
right. Jamie’s got a
quarterback. You know what it’s interesting Peyton Manning and
Joe Montana are taken. I don’t
see any other quarterbacks. So that means that Isaiah and I
still need to get a quarterback.
So we’ll be fighting for it. But I like all the teams. I like
that Isaiah went with a coach in
the third round. That’s right I am going to start the fourth
round and I am going to take my
guy. This is easy for me. If this guy is available in the
fourth round, my quarterback of
my squad is going to be John Elway. An easy, simple Stanford
played in a ton of Super Bowls,
won two of them, beat Brett Favre, beat Chris Chandler. John
Elway is my guy. Maybe arguably
the greatest arm of all time. And I got a squad now Isaiah I
know you need a quarterback. Who
do you take in the fourth round. You know what. Being that you
guys have all taken
quarterbacks. That means that it’s not a threat for anybody
else to come off the board. So
I’m going to go with my former teammate at the receiver
position. Since I played with
two of the two of the greats, I played with T.O. And I played
with Randy Moss. Who am I going
to go with? I don’t know, I’m going to go with T.O. At the
wide receiver position. He can
run any route, he can move any man off the point and he can run
by anybody. He was a physical
specimen at the receiver position. Give me that right
there. What you guys going to do
about this squad? Oh my goodness I’m going to tell you I’m going
to take you to the defensive
side of the ball. And this one, this guy I covered at the end of
his career playing for I never
played for the I never had him in the team that he played for
originally, but the second team
and still a Hall of Famer nonetheless go blue himself. Mr.
Charles Woodson this is my
defensive player selection. Hell yes. Because you know why? Maybe
we dabble a little bit and put
him on the other side of the ball sometimes. Maybe. Maybe he
brings a ball back, I don’t
know. But like that’s a team right there. Oh my gosh. Smart.
That’s a good one. That’s nice.
All right, all right you’re up I’m up, you’re up I’m good I’m
good I’m great. You know why?
Because I this is a sin as a Notre Dame guy and a sin to have
Notre Dame whole list. But this
is my big brother right here, guys. Troy Polamalu, he is on my
this is this list right here I
know guys it’s not Notre Dame. It’s a matter of fact our rival.
But this is my brother and he’s
one of the greatest to ever play the game. So I got Troy Polamalu
as my defensive pick. That’s
nice Dick LeBeau. Come on now. You have an annoying ability to
be able to pull from Notre Dame
and Samoans. You have. No, no. What are you talking about? How
are you supposed coach. All
right. You got you got a double down. Yeah. Dick LeBeau, that’s
my. How do I spell Dick LeBeau?
How do you spell LeBeau? Somebody spell it for him.
You’re going with Dick LeBeau.
Yeah. You’re taking. Yeah, that’s what I’m taking, bro. All
right, that’s how I’m into it. I
love Dick LeBeau. I got a reason, though. The reason is
because Troy played for this
man. So in order for her to get the best Troy, you need to get
his defensive coordinator. That
allowed Troy to do a lot of the things that he did as a
Pittsburgh Steeler. So that was
that was intentional right there. That’s that’s that’s my
thing. I think you stuck the
name on the on the stuck the landing on the spelling. So good
job. Oh thank goodness okay. My
knees gave out. So I can’t sit in that position anymore I can’t
feel my feet. All right. If
we’re my head coach for my Hall of Fame head coach. Mostly
because if I had to do a history
lesson, obviously in my age, I don’t like Hall of Fame head
coaches. Don Shula, Don Shula
wins. My head coach winningest. And because I believe he runs a
great Miami Dolphins
steakhouses. No, I’m just kidding. I know all the reasons
why he is fantastic. Don Shula
is my Hall of Fame head coach. I am. This is the most proud of a
team that I’ve selected in my
heart rate has just been. You should be right here. One team.
It should be 18 through the
whole draft. That’s a good team. That’s a good team. Thank you.
Yeah I respect it. You know. So
I have to go to my single real quick. And I wouldn’t be doing
my team the Dallas Cowboys who I
represent as well outside of here. Any justice if I didn’t
grab the quarterback Troy Aikman
nice. Yes I got to get Troy Aikman right there. This squad
right there I mean just just
just put your boards down at this point because yeah I have
this I got to get a vote KB your
last. Let’s go. It’s really brother. It’s I know I’ve
struggled with it, but this is
by far the easiest draft segment we’ve ever done because you
really can’t make a bad pick
like it’s all Hall of Famers. You can’t screw this up. So I’ve
already got Reggie White, Jerry
rice, Walter Payton, John Elway and my head coach. I started
with defense. I’ll end with
defense. Chuck Noll from the Pittsburgh Steelers 1970s.
Google it kids. Steel curtain
for Super Bowls. The mastermind of mean Joe Greene, Jack
Lambert, the Pittsburgh Steelers
icon. I have five of them on my board from all around the league
icons, that is. And we are done,
folks. Everybody high five. Take a deep breath. Vote on it. Here
we go. We will leave it to the
social media gods to decide who has the best squad. I love doing
this. Jamie. How do you feel? I
feel fantastic, I tried to narrow down my options. I went
first ballot only for my
selection, so that was my logic and reason. That was. I do like
that. I do like the fact that KB
you picked a defensive coordinator as your coach. Same
team Pittsburgh Steelers as did
I. Great minds think alike brother. So yeah, I like that I
went with the players that you
just can’t stop. You just can’t stop them. And then I went with
the with one of the greatest
coaches of all time. And I went with the obviously the guy who
just just is Thanos when it
comes to Super Bowl rings. Smart. Smart. Got it I love it I
think man, I think Bryant Young
was sitting there for your really do whatever we want, man.
We have. We have so many weapons
like we have to get, you know, some of these guys, the ball.
And I mean that makes it a lot
easier for me. Instead of, you know, having four yard games end
up being 6 to 8 yard games, you
know. So for me, man, I’m with whatever. Just as long as we’re
winning and we’re rolling I’m
with it. I’m with it. Exactly. All right. That’s we’re talking
Aaron Rodgers replacement. The
guy that at times it felt uncomfortable when the Packers
went and got the former first
round pick in Jordan Love. And now has been the starter since
2023. He’s got one playoff win
in Dallas. Sorry Isaiah. Let’s go with one word. One word that
defines Jordan Love’s career
thus far. And as he heads into the 2025 season Isaiah you go
first. One word I’m going to go
with a. And E E.h.h we don’t have the whiteboard. So y’all
don’t have to worry about the
official spelling. But I’m kind of underwhelmed at this point.
It’s nothing high. It’s nothing
low. It’s kind of boring, which is good at times for some
quarterbacks. I think that, you
know, obviously his first couple years he didn’t do much. And I
think that he’s kind of been
consistent over the past two years. But I don’t think that
he’s done enough to necessarily
take his team over the hump. When you think about the green
Bay Packers, you don’t really
think about an identity that they have. You don’t really
think about Jordan Love as
taking over the game. You think about him as a good quarterback,
but I want to see the dominant
version of him really step into the fold, and I want to see him
take that next leap and take
over the game. Right now, I feel like he’s just still kind of
sitting back, and I don’t know
if he’s identified himself as the guy. Well, my words start. I
guess if you spell it out, it’s
with the same letter A, but it’s emerging. It’s not emerged, it’s
emerging. And I think if you
want to have the best of Jordan Love, you need to make sure that
that running back Josh Jacobs,
he starts getting going. Like you want to be able to feed this
man when he is coming downhill
and he’s doing all the necessary things to get extra yards. You
want to make sure you keep
feeding them. That’s the best way to open up this play. The
playability of Jordan love, if
you think about it. Isaiah, you know this as a former
quarterback. The guy can spin it
guys. He can throw it on his back foot. His front foot
running to his right. To his
left. The guy can spin the ball. What he needs is somebody on the
offensive side to keep that
defense accountable. And he has that in Josh Jacobs. Just watch
him just truck through a whole
bunch of people. I’m sure that he’s going to be on the angry
Run scepter list this year Kyle
Brandt. But that’s how that’s what I see in in Jordan. Love is
he’s an emerging quarterback
that has some growth there. But I’m very excited to see what
happens. I am too, and I’m very
excited to anticipate reactions of green Bay Packers fans
hearing Isaiah Stanback saying,
and do they point immediately to January 14th, 2024, where they
put 48 points on the Cowboys in
Jerryworld and Jordan Love was basically perfect. I mean,
Isaiah, that was a pretty
profound statement for a guy in his first playoff game, wouldn’t
you say? No, he did. He did
that. But I want to see that performance all the time. And I
think Isaiah, you’re saying he
can’t play the Cowboys all the time. All right listen that was
a bad day I was there for that
one. I was just saying you just walking into him today bro.
Describe Jordan love like this.
It’s a very loaded word Jordan love. Good. Yeah. Good for all
that is. Okay. He has been good.
I don’t think he has been great. And when we talk about who are
the best quarterbacks and we
always do, no one’s like, now hold on a second. Hold on Jordan
love. No. He’s young, he’s good.
But good is not good enough. Not only does he have the misfortune
of following up two first ballot
Hall of Famers, we know the history. It’s Favre. Rodgers
love. Favre and Rodgers were not
good. This guy right now is good. And that’s all right.
Maybe he’ll become great. But if
he doesn’t, it’s not enough. The green Bay Packers don’t have
good quarterbacks. They have
only unbelievably great quarterbacks. And in the NFC
North this year good’s not going
to cut it either. So young I’m not stomping on his toes. This
is a compliment but it’s a
loaded one. My word for Jordan love is good I agree. Okay let’s
move on to second down. I was
going to make some joke about Sean McVay who in speaking
during training camp sat down
with Maurice Jones drew and our Chris Rose to give an update on
his quarterback Matthew Stafford
saw back. We’re going to be week to week with him though I think
when you look at it the end goal
is September 7th. You know when we open up against the Texans,
he’s going into year 17. We were
going to take a modified approach. Had some soreness in
his back. You know when you
really look at it he feels really good about a plan Reggie
Scott Doctor Watkins you know
what’s going to be the best plan of attack for the longevity of
the season. And rushing him back
where you could potentially have an unnecessary setback. You
know, that just doesn’t make
sense. And we are fortunate to have the luxury of a player like
him, that you don’t minimize the
importance of practice. But this is the best thing for him and
for our football team. And in
the meantime, you know, Jimmy Garoppolo and Stetson Bennett
are getting invaluable reps that
they wouldn’t get otherwise. The Rams had a wild end to 2024.
They had to move a home playoff
game to Arizona. They went to Philadelphia. They took care of
business. But how do the NFC
West champions pick up where they left off last season?
Isaiah considering that their
quarterback is week to week in training camp. Yeah I mean their
quarterback is a goon. Hopefully
when he gets back on the field you know he continues to do the
things we all known him to be
able to do and get back to trying to win a Super Bowl. But
in order for them to be in that
conversation, they have to establish some form of a
consistent running game. And I
say that because not because of the talent, but because of their
splash plays on offense. They
don’t have sustained drives offensively because they don’t
they don’t have the running game
to support it. These guys are at the bottom of the league in
terms of average plays per
drive, right? That means they’re having splash plays, but they’re
not keeping guys on the field,
keeping defenses on the field. So then that means that they’re
having shootouts. You don’t want
to have a shootout. You want to have ten play 12 play drives.
They’re averaging like five and
a half plays per drive. 5.8 I believe it is 15 touchdowns last
year, 14 of them were from the
19 yard line in. They don’t have enough big splash plays from the
running back position. So I
think that they really need to focus on creating a sustainable
running game that will alleviate
the pressure from Stafford. And then we’ll also keep defenses at
bay and allow their defense to
get some rest. All right, I like that. I like that and something
that I also like I like I love
doing MMA training. Like that’s something that I’ve always
trained for throughout my
career, especially in Muay Thai. And my coach, Rich power, he
would tell me, you know, that
long heavy bag? He was like, don’t hit the bottom of that
bag. Just hit the middle. It’s
softer. Hit that few times, a few hundred times. And as you
build that callus, now you can
start hitting the bottom of that bag. Because if you come
swinging out the gate and hit
that bottom of the bag, you might break your leg. The reason
why I make the way, I make the
reason why I make that analogy is this the Rams need to stay
healthy. That’s number one. Last
year, going into the first game of the season, they lost four of
their six linemen. In the first
half of the first game. Puka Nacua was out. The first game he
went on IR. Cooper Kupp was out
week three. He went on air and I know that Sean McVay loves to
sit his players during
preseason. For me, there’s a little bit of experience, a
little bit of callus that you
need to build in the preseason so that when the season comes,
you can hit that bottom of that
heavy bag and not get hurt. You have to take those reps at the
middle of that bag where it’s
softer, so that when the season starts and you want to go full
swing on that thing, that you’re
not going to get hurt. And so that’s what I think the Rams
need to do to just continue
because they made it right guys. They had a successful season
last year. I think that it could
be even more successful this year, but I hope that they start
to build that callus during
training camp so that when the season comes, they can go full,
full leg kicks on the NFL. Yeah,
they’ll be leg kicking everybody. They’ll be fine all
the time. When you’re trying to
pick if a team is going to be good in July or August, look at
the head coach, look at the
quarterback guys. It’s very, very simple. They have the best
head coach in the league. They
have a top ten quarterback. And on the on the point of the top
ten, quarterback Matthew
Stafford. Let’s see. It’s July 29th. Back soreness come on come
on. It’s tell me tell me that
Matthew Stafford has not been around the block a few times.
He’s done a few training camps.
I’m not calling him a liar. Far from it. I’m calling him smart.
In fact, our guy Fitzy Ryan
Fitzpatrick, when he saw this news, said, quote, such an old
man, crusty vet move. We’ll all
know he’ll be ready when the lights turn on. There’s
something in the NBA called load
management and all that. I’m not saying the Matthew Stafford
isn’t actually having back
issues, it’s certain certain issue, certain age. Your back
always starts to hurt. I feel
like it’s going to be fine in the opener. And if anybody sees
any concern about Matthew
Stafford, I don’t believe that’s going to be a big problem moving
forward. Let’s put it that way.
I think by the time the regular season rolls around, you just
adjust that sleep number to the
right setting and then he should be good to go, right? Yeah. Here
we go. Third down I’m very
excited for this topic. Third mayhem. It’s a miracle. Can you
believe it? Get NFL RedZone now.
The commanders had us talking last season, but their wide
receiver Terry McLaurin not
talking so much at training camp this year, he’s technically
considered a hold in now as he’s
not practicing with the team. He’s looking for a new contract.
He did speak to reporters kind
of on Monday to give us a status update. Listen closely, because
he’s short and sweet and to the
point, Terry, how much closer are you to working out a deal?
We just taking it day by day
being here in the building though. How does that improve
the dialog? Just taking it day
by day. Are you going to be able to practice at some point, or
how far away from being healthy
are you just taking it day by day, day by day? I think that’s
a song from a musical. It’s not
really jogging my memory here, but it’s so interesting to see
the fact that Terry McLaurin is
a hold in. When you think about it. He is such a staple on this
offense, covering Washington for
as long as I did. I can tell you he has been the cornerstone of
this team just in general
offense, defense. He’s played though 11 different starting
quarterbacks in his time in
Washington, starting his seventh season. Isaiah, I think it’s
fair to say he’s earned a new
contract. But he’s already shown and clearly he will be certainly
missed if he’s not out there.
Yeah scary Terry he’s first of all he’s a good dude. He’s a
he’s a great human being. He’s a
great player. Unfortunately, the quiet guys don’t always get what
they deserve in this league. And
you start talking about position groups like the wide receivers.
Usually if you’re a wide
receiver and you’re producing and you have a big personality,
you’re loud. You get the payday,
no questions asked. But if you’re a quiet guy, that just
goes about your business in this
league, it’s been proven that you don’t necessarily always get
the cake. We can look at Trey
Hendrickson down there in Cincinnati. He just all he does
is become the sack leader. He’s
quiet. He goes about his business, doesn’t get his
payday. Not yet at least. Scary
Terry, he’s weathered the storm. You talked about 11 different
starting quarterbacks. He’s one
of the best receivers in the league. The statistics back it
up. He hasn’t got his payday. He
got a new contract a couple years ago and he’s in the middle
of it. I understand that. But
he’s on schedule to make what, $2,022 million when the rest of
the guys that are in his
hemisphere are making 30 plus? Give the man his bag. He has
been with your organization
through the bad times. Now that you guys are in the good times,
show the rest of your team how
you treat the guys that are that are developing for you. I said
this on the show a week ago
about Scary Terry. I was like, don’t forget the guy that’s been
with you through the dark times.
Like, that guy has been with you through the darkest of times,
and now all of a sudden you have
your best season to date and then you’re not going to pay the
man. Like, that’s just something
that doesn’t make sense. And to your point, what you made about,
usually it’s the loud ones that
get the biggest payday. I would I would beg to argue that it’s
the loudest. It’s those teams
that pay the loudest, receivers that usually don’t make it to
the playoffs. A lot the teams
that have the quiet ones, the teams that have the quiet
leaders that just go out there
and do their business and they get paid. Those are usually the
guys that are a part of teams
that win Super Bowls and championships year in and year
out. Terry McLaurin has been
quiet to your point. He’s been productive. He’s been reliable.
So just like I said on this show
a few weeks ago, don’t forget the guy that was with you during
the dark times. And that’s Gary
Terry. Logical, sound, economical, responsible points
all made I am. Is there a line
item on this contract for the ability to make the media walk
and talk? Where is the
investment in the reporter’s? Sheri, you understand this more
than anybody. You know how hard
that is. Like you be Terry McLaurin and I’ll be the
reporter. Just walk that way.
Yeah. So I’m just like, they’re literally trying to keep up with
him. Be like, but what’s the it?
Day by day, day by day. It’s very hard to do. It’s a lot of
television. Okay. Pay the man.
Pay the man. And be nice to your Chase is actually the first 99
club member in Bengals history.
Here he is telling the news to his QB one hey number nine hey
hey hey come here. I just went
to Leo. Got iced out. He’s on me. 99 overall. I beat you so
nice. Cool, man. I don’t know, I
think that 99 necklace would look pretty good with that taco
cat shirt that Joe Burrow had
on, but that’s Jamar Chase’s instead. All right, guys, which
player. If you look at that
list, are you would you be excited to play with if you were
playing in Madden 26? Isaiah
well, being a former mobile quarterback and being somebody
who loves someone who has a big
arm and somebody who can utilize their legs, I’m going to go with
what I consider to be the three
time MVP champ, but he’s officially a two time MVP champ.
Lamar Jackson I like Lamar
Jackson. I think everybody wants to have a fast mobile
quarterback in Madden. It makes
the game very unfair and not fun to play against. So I’m going to
rock with Lamar Jackson here.
Let’s see the board. Let’s see the board. Oh you want to see
the board. Sorry I’m sorry. No
disrespect. Make your case. Here we go. Here we go. Right there.
Go. There we go. Just in case.
Post it just in case we didn’t have the picture. Yeah. Let’s
go. Here we go. I like that I’m
going to stay with the same team. And the reason I’m going
to stay with the same team is
this. Because this I’m the type of Madden player where I’m going
to run the ball every single
play. And you better hope I don’t get at least four yards
because I’m going to go no
huddle right back onto the ball and I’m just going to switch
what side I run the same exact
play. I’m going to do it the whole way down. In order to do
that, I need a running back that
breaks a lot of tackles. So I’m going to go with Derrick Henry.
Derrick Henry is a player that I
want. I don’t know what his rating is on this new Madden,
but I already know that his
stiff arm has to be 99, his break tackle has to be 99, and
I’m the type of guy that I’m a
little I’m a little petty. So if I break a run on you I need to
run back into a defender, run
him over or kick him out like stiff arm. You’re the guy that
goes 99 yards, stop at the one
yard line and wait for the defender to catch up. Stiff arm
again. I need Derrick Henry for
that type of game play. So I got King Henry classless and I love
it. Yeah, I’m a little petty
when it comes to that. I got I’m going to go with the headline
guys. Just give me Saquon. I
just want to play with that toy. I want to see what that’s like.
The idea that now Madden is
incorporated into the game that Saquon can do his backwards
jump. It doesn’t make sense in
reality how he did that. And I don’t even think it makes sense
in video games. So if I’m
controlling Saquon and he gets a pass out to the outside and the
tacklers coming up to me, I turn
him around to the back to the tackler and then jump. I don’t
even know how to do that. How do
you do that with the controls on the sticks? I’m not sure. But I
want to try because once I
figure it out, better believe I’m doing it. Every single time
he touches the ball. He’s going
to have 50 backwards leaps of games all the way to the end
zone. That’s my guy. As the
Non-video game representative on this show, I feel like I would
be like, so do I turn the remote
around and then press X upside down? It’s all the same. We’ll
figure it out. Just press any
button. James. Yeah, here’s a question is somehow this still
says with in Madden. But the
question is it’s the tone has changed. What non-football
player or celebrity does anyone
in your life that you would want to play? Madden I guess
alongside next to with play
Madden with this person on the couch with the sticks. Everybody
likes playing against somebody
who talks mess, somebody who’s a big personality because you get
the highs when they’re feeling
real good, and then you get to hear the silence right as you’re
starting to beat them. Right.
You talk about Manti running back into the defenders, running
down the line. Right. I want to
go against Marlon Wayans. I think Marlon Wayans would be
absolutely awesome to play
against. He’s a big personality. He’s one of my one of my
favorites in terms of comedians
and just just actors in all types of comedies. So I think I
would love playing against
Marlon Wayans. I know the rest of the Wayans are probably going
to be in the background watching
and gassing them up, too, and I just want to silence the crowd.
But respect to all y’all, Wayans
Z. I’m feeling your vibe today because I followed you on the
Ravens. I’m also going to follow
you on the type of guy that I want to play against. Listen,
when I’m playing Madden, I want
to have some fun. I want to laugh. I want to play about play
against somebody who talks some
trash a little bit, but it is not too good. Where after if he
if he beats me, I can’t look at
him like, all right, let’s take it outside and beat him. Like
and that guy Shane Gillis okay.
So Shane Gillis like one of the most, the funniest dudes that
you ever come across. He is a
Notre Dame fan. So shout out to Shane for that. But I want to
play against somebody that would
just talk trash the whole time. Like just criticize my game
calling, criticize the fact that
I just run the ball all game and also criticize every, every
person on my team. After he
scores, you just diss him. I just want to laugh the entire
time. So if I had to pick
anybody to play against, it’s got to be Shane Gillis. To me,
those are great choices. I mean,
we just bust you up. While he was, you were beating him and
I’d have all kinds of jokes.
He’d be hilarious. But my answer is no. But I don’t want to play
anybody in Madden. I don’t want
to play any celebrity. I want to play these Jamaar Chase, Tyreek
Hill, all these guys who think
they’re good at Madden and I want to play them in Tecmo Bowl.
I’m talking way back to the 80s.
Not the one with Super Tecmo Bowl with eight plays. Four
simple plays is all you need.
You can be the Raiders if you want. You can have Bo Jackson. I
will still stop you. All of you
guys come play UNC and I’ll beat you in Tecmo Bowl 56 to nothing.
Watch. You know why Kyle’s
answering the question that way is because, Kyle, do you
remember a couple of years ago
on this show, you and I did an entire segment where I did a
post Madden game interview with
you when you beat your son 100 to 0. Can you read can you
retell that story? Because these
two have never heard that story? Oh yeah. A couple of years ago
we played Madden with my son.
And listen, I’m not into this young generation of coddling and
helicopter parents. Like,
sometimes you got to teach the child that not everything is
easy. And I beat my son 100 to
nothing. It was the most perfect thing ever. It was 93 to nothing
with two seconds left, and I had
one last play to the end zone and I got it. Every pass he
threw, I picked off and returned
for a touchdown. It was the I was the Eagles and he was the
Dolphins. Dallas Goedert had
like seven touchdowns in that game. It’s one of my finest
accomplishments. That’s the
final score. Screen 100 to 0. And this is this is before Jalen
Hurts was in the Super Bowl I
just I’m so proud of this I’m raising two wonderful children.
But this is even better 100 to
squat perfect the black swan I danced it I changed my answer.
Your answer I want to play Kyle
I want to play Kyle. Oh you don’t. It’s cold. Kyle, who
plays the type of petty ball
that I like to play. Anybody can get it. Including my son. 100 to
0. I got to play KB. Kyle, in
the words of Kyle’s, my type in the words of Will Ferrell, let
the boy watch. That’s right.
That’s exactly right. And he did. Oh my gosh. So we’re
referencing Madden. We’re
referencing Tecmo Bowl favorite Madden play or I guess favorite
Tecmo Bowl. We’re breaking the
segment Isaiah you got to draw him up. Oh go ahead Manci Mansi
first first let me come on guys.
Wow. We’re going full blown whiteboard Kyle Power got it I’m
ready guys okay okay I got it I
got it I got it I got us guys okay. So KB did mention that
this player his player Saquon
Barkley because they just added that reverse that reverse jump.
Well Madden also I heard is
bringing this play in here. It’s the tush push okay. Like this.
Just this plays in perfectly
with my game play I will run this play because I’m going to
get at least 3 to 4 yards. You
know why? Because they get at least two in real life Madden
defense I don’t think they have
a deep what are we going to run engage eight. You’re not going
to stop the tush push and engage
eight. You don’t have enough players on this side of the
field. So I would play I would
just do tush push the entire drive and get first downs every
2 to 3 plays and just keep the
Eagles should do that. That’s what I’m saying. Do it. Like how
you said KB just first play of
the game. Do it. Oh well who cares. We’re just going to keep
running. Play. Yeah let’s go I’m
with you brother on that one. So I got the tush push. That’s the
that’s the play. Go ahead
Isaiah. All right I’m going to go with the Madden Classic okay.
Anybody who plays Madden and
actually throws the ball not like man he’s going to run it
I’m going with the flood I’m
going with the flood. And for all my Madden players out there
somebody’s got to do it.
Understood. I’m not even going to get into it because I can
break this all the way down. But
it doesn’t matter what coverage you run. I’m breaking you down
with this flood play. Cover one,
cover two, cover three two man cloud, whatever it is with the
quarterback. Mind if I have
time? It’s a wrap, baby. I got hot routes in here. I got deep
roots in here, I got flats.
Anything you want the can, man, you can get it. You can set your
running back lined up to the
quarterback absolutely upset. Yeah we’re good. Shotgun. Yeah.
Flood play because they would do
strong flood. You’d do weak flood like those plays always
worked. The most Madden I ever
played was in the early 2000. And it was like Marshall Faulk
was on the cover. Shaun
Alexander, Eddie George like right around then. And I would
always be the Chargers because
lt was fantastic. And if you could throw it to L.T. Out of
the backfield, they had this
play. You know how one of the routes was always read to the
primary. They had a play called
Running Back Angle. Yes. And you’re going to sneak Lt right
out here. And Drew Brees would
just drop it here and he gone baby. And better believe if
somehow they covered Lt I’m
going right to gates right there all the way to the end zone. But
running back angle simple
classic unstoppable I love it Kyle. The ISO on the inside
linebacker is money. If the
linebacker jumps the running back, you go to the seam right
behind him. Let’s go. You’re
going to remember this play. Oh here we go. Now we’re going to
keep going. Oh are you going.
Just remember that play. And this was this was Isaac Bruce
out here in the All-madden team
I was just run this play and bomb it to Isaac Bruce every I
think it was Madden 99. One of
those that was like the glitch play and just hit him and keep
spinning. I just press B button
and spin with the running back. We’d get there. You’re that guy.
See, I’m motioning the running
back out into the slot and I’m running him on a slant route
underneath, and I’m just going
to let him run for 60 yards. That’s why your offense and I’m
defensive. It’s like we don’t
need all of that stuff. It’s like you’re not going to stop me
anyway. I’m bombing this thing
and I’m giving it to Teahen for 3 to 4 yards and I’m going no
huddle. And we’re doing it
again. We’re four yards. Madden, bro. All Madden team Kyle
Brandt, the all points team or
all I’ll kick your behind team. And we’ll remind him of that
every day. Gosh, I love that
music. Saturday at 1 p.m. Eastern, be sure to tune in to
NFL network for the 2025 Pro
Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony. You’re
going to see some of your
favorites. Jared Allen, Antonio Gates, Sterling Sharpe, and Eric
Allen all become immortalized
and join their new friends in canton, Ohio. And for more on
that, we’re going to welcome in
one of Eric Allen’s former teammates, the co-host of Golic
and Golic on FanDuel Sports
Network. Our friend of the show. Mike, what’s going on? Golic?
Let’s go. How are we doing? I’m
certainly, certainly looking forward to this weekend, even
though I’m a guy that has to pay
full price to get into the Hall of Fame, though. Oh come on, not
even a discount when you’re a
teammate. That’s unfair. I have to pull out the old NFLPA card.
I think you get the discount.
That’s right. Show it at the Costco. Golic, awesome to see
you. You were teammates with
Eric. Obviously we just mentioned not just in Philly,
but you were all also analysts
together at ESPN. You got a favorite memory of your friend,
whether it be up in the booth,
on the field or on the road. I mean, just really on the field,
especially with that, that
defense, obviously, probably one of the one of the big games, the
House of pain game when we
played the Oilers in Houston and he he had some pretty big hits
in that game. He was known
obviously for his interceptions, his returns. But he was he would
stick you as well. I think
that’s the one thing about e that that that people hadn’t
associated with him as far as
you know, the finesse of interceptions returned for
touchdowns. But he would stick
you and that was a Buddy Ryan defense. Everybody had to be a
hitter or you weren’t playing on
that defense. Mike, I want you to give these youngins out here
a kind of reference to how Eric
played this game. Is there is there somebody today that kind
of resembles a little bit of how
he played? Well, you’re talking about, you know, a really a
cover corner guy that would get
up in your face. A Buddy Ryan defense really put a heavy
pressure on the corners. I don’t
know if there’s I don’t know if there’s defenses today that put
as much pressure on the corners
because buddy was attack all the time. So the pressure on the
corners was great. But normally
with, you know, Clyde Simmons and Reggie White Jerome Brown up
up front, you usually got pretty
quick pressure on the quarterback. So they maybe
didn’t have to cover that line.
But certainly at times they did. And then Bud Carson took over
the defense and still had
pressure on the corners but took a little bit off. But really he
he would be you know, a player
today would be a cover corner, a very tight up in your face type
of corner. Mike, I love that
you’re on the show. It’s just listening to your voice. I have
so many years on the radio. I
feel like I’m in my car driving to work. It’s such a familiar
presence. I love that you’re
here, and I love how good you are at telling stories. We did
it earlier in the show, Mike. We
did a draft of all the existing Hall of Famers, and we filled
out a roster of Hall of Famers.
The first defensive player taken was Lawrence Taylor, but I took
Reggie with the second defensive
player and I felt great about it. You had played in the pros
already. You had played at Notre
Dame. When you show up and first encounter Reggie White, when did
you know like, oh my God, this
person is different right away. I mean, just just his size, you
know, six, six, 315 pounds. I
watched him run a 4.6 40 at that size. He was, you know, normally
normally when you’re a strong
player, weightlifting wise, maybe you don’t as great as
great a leverage on the field.
But he was usually the strongest bencher. He benched, he squatted
and he power cleaned. That was
basically it. And he was the strongest player on the team.
And oh by the way, the quickest
maybe save for the first step of Jerome Brown might have been a
little quicker and he could line
up anywhere down the line. You know that 46 defense he would
line up over the center. But
just just his sheer size and quickness. And he was such a
great guy too. He was he was a
better human being than a player. Cost me a lot of sacks.
I had 11.5 sacks over nine
years, which I think was consistent. People think that’s
bad. I would just get there a
step or two late because Reggie wanted to hog all the sacks. So
Mike G, you have an accumulation
of half sacks. I see what you’re saying exactly. And helping my
defender up after he sacked the
quarterback. There you go. Listen man. The Philadelphia
Eagles are flying high. Although
their fan base is obviously hype about them coming off the Super
Bowl. You’ve covered this game
for a very long time. What could potentially prevent them from
repeating in 2025 for the Super
Bowl again? Well, I mean, the first thing we’d say, and we all
sit here and prognosticate
before the season on what a team should do. But what’s one thing
we can’t see in the future? And
that’s injuries, you know, do you get somebody nicked up?
There’s always a couple of mash
units every year that kind of prevent them. You know, 49 ers
were certainly one of them last
year looking to rebound from that. So that could hold them
up. Maybe the Ascension Jayden
Daniels. Does he even have a better sophomore year than he
had a rookie year. Do they take
another step. Who who will step up in the NFC. You know is it
green Bay. Is it green Bay
because Detroit lost both their coordinators and some players.
Or is it Detroit trying to
finish the deal. That’s the thing about it. That’s why it’s
so difficult to get repeat
champions because somebody either injury cost you the
season or some team starts to
play better, but they go in as the favorite and they should.
Their offense is fantastic. The
offensive line has been one of the most dominant in the game.
They had to certainly fill some
holes on defense, but they’re still the team to beat in the
NFC. Mike, it’s truly so cool to
have you on with us today. You know, having listened to your
voice as one of the OGs of
morning sports talk shows with Mike and Mike, do you have any
advice for as as Manti called us
all the youngins on the morning early morning show hours? What’s
something you miss about it?
What’s something you are so happy to not deal with anymore
when it comes to morning talk
shows? Well, the first thing is getting up at 4:00, 415 every
morning for 25 years. That’s the
one thing I don’t miss too much. Now. My son and I at least do an
afternoon show. So I’m an old
man. I can get some sleep, but but it’s. And my dad told me
this. And this isn’t rocket
science. It’s just be yourself, you know, and I think being a
good storyteller, especially you
guys do a morning show. People are on their way to work getting
ready in the morning, you know,
listening to you guys. So it’s give them in for I always say
give information, let somebody
go. Okay. Maybe I didn’t know that and make them smile a
little bit as well. You know I
think along the way especially in the morning that that’s a
good thought. Yeah. Mike you’re
so good at telling stories. Just how KB said I’ve actually known
Mr. Golic since I was 18 years
old. I went to school with Mike Golic Jr at Notre Dame, and his
son, Jake Golic, was actually my
classmate at Notre Dame, so I could we couldn’t leave without
asking you. I couldn’t I had to
ask you, what are some of your favorite memories about those
days, Mr. Golic? Back when we
were all over there. Well, I tell you, I mean, Manti watching
that that year, you guys went
undefeated. We won’t bring up the Alabama game. We will not.
Oh, okay. All right. I have to
breathe deep on that one. Just listen. Watching all you guys
grow up together, you know, in
being there, Mike, for the five years. Jake for the four years.
My daughter Sydney swam there
and was there at that in 2012 as well. Just watching how you all
grew together. We all know the
locker room, that that’s one of the things you miss the most
from football. The play on the
field is one thing, but the camaraderie in the locker room,
I think is the great thing. Just
watching you guys grow, become friends, go undefeated. That
season was very nice, but but
really just to watch you guys grow. And I got to watch my
brother run out the field with
that golden dome. I got to do it with my brother Greg running
out, but there was nothing like
watching my two boys run out in the field with that golden
helmet. I said I played in every
stadium in the NFL and running out of a tunnel. Nothing in the
NFL matched me running out of
the tunnel and watching my kids run out of the tunnel at Notre
Dame. It just it just was was I
get goosebumps when I talk about it was just very cool. Yeah,
Mike, it’s truly a special. And
Notre Dame has something special going on, especially with their
head coach Marcus Freeman. How
do you what do you think of Marcus? Because I think
everybody feels the same way
about Coach Freeman. Well I mean he’s a great recruiter. And just
think about college now. You not
only have to recruit high school kids sitting there in their
living rooms, but you have to
recruit portal guys as well. So the load doubled up on the
coaches as far as recruiting is
concerned. And he has such a players coach. Players love him.
Their recruiting classes have
been ranked incredibly high getting them together. And while
the portal is certainly used, as
Marcus says, they minor in the portal, they don’t major in it.
They major in in home grown
kids. Like they’ll have a homegrown quarterback this year
after two times they went to the
portal. But he is just so. He’s so involved with the players and
players love playing for him,
talking to him, I think. I think he’s the difference maker of the
talent that they’re getting at
Notre Dame. Awesome. Golic, we appreciate you so much and
listen when we have you on and
manti’s on, somehow we always have just the generic Marcus
Freeman Golden Dome or B roll.
Don’t forget, don’t forget. KB yeah, you’re in the family too.
Yeah, absolutely. And also when
we have a friend of the show on, we have to have their highlights
from when they played. So Mike
Golic everybody, thanks for coming on and sharing your
stories about Eric Allen as he
is about to be enshrined in cam this weekend. Smile. He’s like
the full sack. Check out Mike
Golic again weekdays goal on FanDuel Sports network daily. Go
like you’re the best. Thank you.
Thanks, gang. Appreciate it. Boom! Thanks for showing the
highlights. Yes. Let’s go. I
made some plays. Let’s go. S
