Trail Blazers Offically Introduce Jrue Holiday | The Firm Of Harris & Marang
Drew Holiday was introduced this morning at 10:00 a.m. Thus Danny being late to work. Yeah, I was there. I was there. I swear I was there. Uh Drew Holiday being uh finally introduced. I loved all the uh before we get in, you know, I want to get your reactions and and how it went before I loved all the conspiracy theories about why he didn’t have a press conference. I talked about this when we open the show, but it’s like, well, cuz he’s getting traded. No reason to introduce him because he’s not going to be here. Yeah, there’s a lot of that out there. There’s lot, oh, Drew’s he doesn’t want to be here. He’s angry about being here. Drew’s not angry about being here. Is it a change for him? Yeah. But Blazers PR wanted to do this sooner, but Drew wanted to go home and there was no reason to kind of force it. Let him go. And when he he was here, like you saw the the social media video of him like coming here the first time, but that was on the day of Yong Hansen’s press conference. And the way PR works, you let your new draft pick have the day without a doubt. So you don’t also bring in Drew that day. you you space those things out because you don’t want them to live together, right? Like Yeah. Like the Blazers signed Blake Wesley. Again, it’s kind of a smaller signing. He’s 15th guy, but that had been in the works for a couple of days. Sure. They weren’t going to They were to let Dame’s press conference on Monday, carry the day, and then they do the Wesley signing the next day. Yeah. Everybody does that for everything. You make sure for people who don’t understand how that stuff works, you let the story breathe before you drop something else. It’s like a nice bottle of California Cabernet. Oh, nice little fine b of keiante. I’m joking. I’m not a big Cali cab guy. Big bold cali cab. I love What’s Dusty’s favorite sound? My close. Not quite that guy. That’s me. That’s a little more cheek. Uh what’ you What’d you get? What’d you get from uh what’d you get from the press today? Did Drew say anything cool? Uh yeah, he ended the press conference with and my Wi-Fi wasn’t that bad because Dame Dame was complaining about the Wi-Fi and that’s funny. Full circle. Um, for those that don’t know, Dame was staying in Drew’s place. He was renting his place when Drew got traded and Dame got traded. And that’s how t we mentioned this before. It’s typically how things work in the NBA. There’s only so many houses in in cities that can accommodate NBA players and their money and their taste and their security and all the things that kind of go along with that. Uh, but Drew was asked a lot about mentorship and I don’t think he got irritated about it, but this is like something that I’ve been saying. Drew was not brought in here to coach up Scoot and Shay. He has brought in here to play and he has come to play. I would hope so. I don’t want to pay guy too much money to not play. Although I was listening to Dur Sprag this morning and I thought Brandon brought up a really great point. Then what are you doing with Scoot? I don’t want to get into this. No, no, I don’t know if I want to get into this. I’m more interested in just continue with uh with the leadership stuff. I think this kind of lends into it. He’s not opposed to the mentor mentorship stuff. Like he’s he’s very much is about it. And it was it was funny. He was asked, you know, who were some of his early mentors? And he goes, “Oh, yeah, know. I had a couple.” Oh, I’m fascinated with this. Andre God with the V with the 76ers. And he goes, “He was a jerk.” Like, but he seems so lovable. No, Iggy’s a jerk, but like he’s a he’s a good jerk in the sense of like it’s all coming Well, not all of it, but but a lot of it’s coming from a place of like motivation. He’s not just an a-hole just to be an a-hole. Like, there’s plenty of those guys, but like one of those I’m doing this for your own good. Not necessarily that. It’s it’s it’s probably for me hitting you cuz I love you. It’s it’s it’s probably for Iggy’s own good in the sense of like if you’re better then it makes him look better. Like again I think Iggy is one of the most unique and underrated players in in the NBA in era. He’s really good. Um and when he was at Philly he was really good. I love he was such an athletic freak coming out of UVA then. Um but you he talked about uh Elton Bran and Aaron McKe was one of his coaches and you know McKe was a guy oh man McKe and you can see the imprint of Aaron McKe on Drew Holiday as a defender and all that kind of stuff and Drew was asked about kind of what his role and expectations he’s like yeah you know we were talking about the offense he goes you know we’ll figure some stuff out there and how we’re going to do that but he goes defensively I’m I’m me like I’ve like I know what that is and he goes I’ve played against this team and you know the last couple years and I kind of know what their identity is and I think I can fit into that really well which is why they did bring him in. They brought him in because of his defensive acman. They brought him in because of his IQ. They got they brought him in because of his winning attitude, his mentality. Like you having Dame and Jaru in that locker room. You can’t not show up. Yeah. You they’re not going to let you not show up. I think there’s a lot of house money to there with Drew because, you know, no offense to Present Company, but like when was the last time you had a defensive-minded point guard starting in Portland? I don’t have that answer. Terry, Raymond Felton, Terry, Rod Strickland. Okay. Yeah. Strickland. He was more one two. But yeah, Rod. But I mean, the main point guards of the last 30 years, Damon Starttomire, Damen Lill, Brandon Roy, not defensive. Sebastian Delair. Stop. Gosh. Stop. Bassy. Stop. But yeah, you know, it’s been a while. I mean, Steve Blake definitely gave a damn about that side of the ball. Oh, for sure. And Andre Miller was responding. Andre Miller, Steve Blake, those are good points. Did uh anybody ask him any fun Portland questions? Yeah, to kind of ask him about the city. Yeah. Know, but he’s like, I haven’t really been out much. I was curious about that. Well, he’s like, I haven’t been out that much. When I come here, you know, it’s like it’s gray, you know, kind of a deal. That’s sunny today, dude. Look outside. Like, that’s the whole thing is like when you get guys that come here during the summer, like that’s when you want guys to come here is during the summer. Like, yeah, this is why you stay here. This is why you come here. Like, this is in the winter time, you’re traveling all the time. Don’t worry about it. But when you go on a road trip, the lake’s beautiful down south. Well, you start a road trip in Phoenix and work your way up from LA and Utah, Sacramento, and then you end your five game trip in Portland in January. Yeah. And it’s 43°, pouring rain, black as death outside, like this place sucks. Hey, but if you move your way north, it starts to taper down your expectations a little bit. Yeah, sure. But also, there’s another thing that Drew was asked about. Could be snowing in Denver. Yeah, that’s another one. But um Sacramento Sacramento. Yeah. No matter what time of year it is. But Drew was asked about, you know, not only just playing with Dane, but having another guy on the team that’s a family guy. He’s like, “It’s nice to come to a team where especially with especially on a team with babes.” Babies. He’s like He’s like, “I don’t know how many other guys here have kids.” And Brook was sitting next to me. She kind of get like it’s a it’s a young team, but he didn’t stop Anthony Simons. But yeah, but I mean it also I mean Aunt’s also older than all those guys. Yeah, that’s true. That’s true. Um, but you Drew was said something to the point of like, you know, not only a guy that I know, but a guy who has multiple kids. Mhm. Like Dame has multiple kids. I have multiple kids. Drew was doing dad first, basketball player second. Yeah. I mean, Drew was doing the press conference with one of his sons on his lap. It’s great. Like it was like Yeah. Like his family is very very important to him. And like he said, it’s it’s nice knowing that I have another guy in the locker room that that family is very very important to him. Like that’s that’s the thing that matters to him, right? I want to know where is the place in Portland I am most likely to run into Drew Holiday that’s not at a Blazer associated thing. It’s a good question. I I think Drew is a foodie so I would imagine he’ll he’ll hit some places. He’ll hit some spots, some carts maybe. Oh, the Blazers also have people that work for them that help kind of Mole Mole on Alberta. You like Mexican food, bro? Maybe a mother’s. I mean, he’s an LA guy, so I’m sure he’s he’s down with some tacos. Drew, if you want to meet me at Mole Mole on Alberta, I’ll buy. We don’t even have to talk basketball. We can just sit there and BS about the great city of Portland, Oregon. There you go. But no, I I think he’ll do fine here. I think everything will be I mean he did. He’s too much of a pro not to be fine. I mean, he was in Milwaukee. What you saying about Milwaukee, bro? It’s the same kind of a deal. It’s offen for the good land. Totally, too. I bet you Milwaukee is gorgeous this time of year. Yeah, sure. Sunny skies, but it’s nice out. So, go check that. I’ve been in Wisconsin in the summertime. It’s, don’t me wrong, it’s nice, but the giant lakes, the the the pond or the pond mosquitoes, lake mosquitoes. There’s a lot of mosquitoes. In fact, I think the lakes are considered great. Well, yeah, we got the bigger ones up there. He’s going to go get him one of those Milwaukee butterhogs. Hell yeah, he is about to give me a butterhog. I love that drop. It’s so good. But yeah, no, I I think the impact of of Jaru is is going to be number one overall holistically good. I think he’s going to be a good player for them. It’s kind of what we talked about with Pete Carol in LA or sorry in Vegas. It’s like like those are cornerstone culture guys. And that’s the added effect. Drew the player is still what they want. And everybody, you know, you mentioned like what does this mean for Scoot kind of a deal. It’s like he was asked a lot about that. And like I said, I don’t think he got irritated, but I could sense there was something there of like guys, I’m my career is not over. Like I have not progressed to the sitting on the end of the bench not playing. I’m not out to the farm yet, guys. I’m not Udonis Hasslam. I’m not just sitting there in warm-ups knowing full well that I’m not playing. Donis Hasslam is about to be like the president of basketball operations at the Heat. I’d take that job favorably. Look, being a being a team lifer is not a bad thing to be. No. Like when you’re just a part of the organization, you know, you never have to work again. Dude, you missed it. We were talking about backup quarterbacks earlier. That’s the job. Chase Daniel, man, that’s the job. made made a lot of money being just a guy that was like being a good locker room guy doing all those things catching about seven snaps. But you transition into that. Do you know he’s like five passes away from most attempts in preseason history? I mean that that makes sense. Yeah. It’s like five or 10 something like that. He just needed like one more season. He was like I’m good. I don’t want to break that record. Yeah. I would own the hell out of that record. Absolutely. Absolutely. I would come back and play one more time. I’ll be like, “Fourth quarter, you figured out who your backup is. You’re going to cut me tomorrow. Just let me rip it.” And figure out how to get your way onto the Baltimore Ravens roster so you don’t lose any of those preseason games either. Hell yeah. Find find whoever is the Hall of Fame game so you get a fourth. Just do it.
