D-backs vs. Tigers Game Highlights (7/29/25) | MLB Highlights

For just the third time in franchise history, Detroit starters have pitched six plus without allowing a single run in three straight games. Now Mai with a chance to rewrite history and more importantly lead the Tigers to a third straight win. How is Gino Suarez? Well, the X-rays last night were negative. The news is good. It’s all clear. Casey’s going to look to rebound from a a couple of starts just not up to his expectations. Corbin in the leadoff spot in right field. 245 and 21 home runs. And that’s down the line and fair in the right field corner. And Corbin Carroll’s on the run. He’s going to head for third. Here’s the relay. It’s not in time. And Corbin Carroll has his 14th triple this year. That leads the majors. Boy, top of the order production is what the Dbacks need. And Corbin Carroll starts it off. So Corbin at third to get it started ahead of Catel Marte. This Diamondbacks team on this road trip has scored two runs. And there’s some hard contact off the bat of Catel. Corbin waited just to make sure. And two batters in. The Diamondbacks have the early lead. Bad breaking ball by Mai there. He never threw Marte a fast ball in that at bat. And now a full count. There goes Catel and it’s ball four. The first three have reached. Mai’s off to another rough start. You mentioned he’s coming off two bad starts. He’s only thrown seven innings in those two games. It’s good work. Fast ball. Strike three. One away. 97 right by Adrien Del Castillo. Marte takes off. And that’s ball four. It’s second walk in the inning for Mai. And he’s loaded the bases for McCarthy. And the Diamondbacks have a golden opportunity right here. Swing and a miss. There’s the splitter. And that was dazzling. How about gravity just grabbing hold to punch out McCarthy. Alec Thomas first pitch swing. Fly ball center field. Verling in the sun makes the catch somehow someway. One run Dan that’s all and just regroup shut him down the rest of the way. F who has been on a pretty good little run here and has found his way in the month of July. Really dominating left-handed hitters. Swinging a miss. Sinker on the outer edge. Two outs. First strike out for F. Two up. Two down on the Detroit first for Carrie Carpenter. And Carrie lashes this ball into right field. Carrie Carpenter on his way to second base. He is there. That ball was hammered just around first base. Slides into second safely with a two-out double. The set and the delivery. Two hops to first. Glove by English. He’ll take it to the bag himself and Font pitches around the two out double. Ball four. Third walk already issued by Mai and the Dbacks have the leadoff man aboard in the second leading one to nothing. That’s a no no. Corbin tripled and scored to lead off the ball game. His 14th triple this year. Corbin lines it right by Glaver Torres. McCann will stop at second and Corbin Carroll is two for two. So now a chance again for a big inning as Catel Martebats. Catel chops it two first. Backhanded by Torlson who can’t make the play and everybody’s safe. They’ve loaded the bases for the second straight inning. Torqulson has struggled defensively in his career. He’s put it back together offensively this season. They’re full with one out again in the second. Here’s Purdomo. Jerry lifts it fairly deep right center. Perez calls off Beerling. He tracks it down. McCann will tag and score. Corbin’s into third. Another RBI for Purdomo. It’s two nothing Diamondbacks. Wow. And that is the end of the night for Casey Mice with the lefty Del Castillo coming up. The lefty Bran Hurders coming on. Swinging a high popup shallow left field. Rody Green will come in, fight the sun, make the catch. Del Castillo pops out. Brand her gets the final out of the second inning for Brandt Herder his 33rd appearance. That 280 ERA, 45 hits, a walk rate of four now, a strikeout rate of 10. There’s a swing and a miss. Brand her nice work against English to dispatch him, Dan, on three pitches and a great performance. Brand her has been outstanding. That is four straight retired by Herder. Good to see James McCann back in the major leagues. One, two, McCann swings. It’s a fly ball deep to right center field. Verling on the run, tracking it. He will make the catch. Banging to the wall and held on. It popped out of his glove and he caught it. Unbelievable. Racing onto the track. He made the catch. He hit the wall. The ball popped out and somehow Matt Verling got it before it hit the ground. Matt Verling, a one-man show for out number one. That’s outrageous. Did he go? Yeah, he did. He sure did. Alexander tried to flee the scene in his own getaway car. Two down. Two. Carroll swings and pops it up. Riley Green waving his arms in left field from Shadow into Sunshine. Back to Shadow. Makes the catch. Riley Green to lead off the fourth. And that is fair down the right field line into the corner. Riley Green on his way to second base. He has a leadoff double. That’s the third double tonight for the Tigers. Brings up when Perez doubled his last time up. 1-1. Okay, line drive right field. That’s down. It was a cutter. Riley to third. Two on, one out for Mckinstry. Perez holds it first. McKinstry can’t check on the sweeper and that’s the big strike out you wanted right there. Dingler popped out his first time up. Green coming down the line at third. Marte at second shades up the middle. The outfield plays Dingler to pull 02. There goes Perez and he’ll take second base. So the single probably ties you the game now. Dingler center field. Thomas has to play it on a hop. That extra base will in fact tie the game on a Dylan Dingler single to center. Yeah, it’s a nice job of going down and getting that sweeper away from him. Man, Dylan Dingler’s fourth hit against the Diamondbacks in two days. He tags up. Hustles into second base. Now he gets himself in score position and that is out number two. Marte caught sprinting for third and he ended up in no man’s land. All right, so now it’s the third time through. He put the cutter away. Here’s a fly ball right field. Claver Torres sends it out of here. That’s a Tigers lead. Glaver makes it three to two. Fast up and away from Glabber Torres. He’s so good at taking that ball to right field that’s away from him. doesn’t try to do too much with it. Oh, a little good luck mustache. Oh, there it is. Third time through the order. Issues continuing for Font right now as he gets ready to face Riley Green. This is a big hitter. Fly ball right field. Carol’s back. Good luck. Mustache sends one out of here. Things have gotten very hairy for the Diamondbacks. Little bit of a rough stretch. Breaks out with a double earlier in the game. He goes down and gets a change up right here and launches it into the right field seats. Perez at first for Zack McKinstry. 52 Detroit bottom five. McKinstry ways it right field. This is also gone. Three home runs in the inning and the Tigers lead 7-2. This one was belt middle and Mckenry didn’t miss it. Hammered out to right field for a two-run homer. Here is the rookie left-hander, Brandon Garcia, 25 years old, just acquired last week from Seattle in the Josh Naylor deal. That’s six Tiger hits and a hit batter in the fifth inning so far. They batted around. Andy Abanz comes off the bench and he will bat for cold Keith against the left-hander Garcia. That ball sliced over Marte. Ibanz has a base hit. Give him an RBI two. Tigers by six. Dingler scores. It’s just so good to see these bats come alive. This is what this looks like, Dan. Tigers will try and add on to this six-run lead. Okay, there’s a rocket to right. Carrie Carpenter hits the corner and he is well on his way to second base with his third hit tonight. Riley Green home in the fifth. Look out over at third. Alex McKay hops out of the way from the Scud missile for Riley Green. Boy, Riley gets that sinker right down and away and stays with it. Jake Woodford on for the Dbacks. They trail Detroit nine to2 in the bottom of the sixth. And so Perez has a couple of blind drive hits in this game. Ground ball rippling fair a pawn skipper wel Perez can fly and he wants to and he’s going to into third. throw came in way late. Vel Perez with a triple. 10-2 Tigers here in the six. Diamond backs play the infield background ball just about anywhere will score another run. First base English captures it and there is out number two. But a run comes home. Wel scores. It is 11-2. Andy Banz is smoking the ball in his return from Toledo. The O2 soft ground ball up the middle. Marte will charge backhand by the bag. Nice move actions. Throws across his body to first. That’s a good play. He made it look simple, didn’t he? Didn’t he? Az goes over to third in the air to center. Trotting back a couple of steps is Alec Thomas will square up and make the catch and the inning is over. One out double, a man left. the second pitching appearance of the season and the fourth of his career for the catcher Jose Herrera. One to Riley Green. Three hopper to second. Marte will throw him out. Lead off man gone of the Detroit eighth. That’s ripped to left. It’s a base hit. And now the drama builds. Wel Perez. The Tigers have not had a cycle since 2006. Up the middle. Marte backs up. Purdomo for one and just not time enough to get the speedy Perez who’s aboard. Well, antilimatic that time. James McCann trying to frame it. He did try to frame it. Right field. That zipped into the corner. Zack McKinstry. [Applause] He’ll take his double. Wentel trying to score. He’s in there. RBI double. Zack McKinstry. It is 12-2. And the Dbacks one out away from dropping a fourth straight. The two- two swing and a miss. Got him on strikes. Tigers win. 11 extra base hits. Big Knights up and down the lineup.

  1. I was in a patients room while the big 6 run inning was on the patientโ€™s tv. The patient got stuck between a stretcher and a bed during a transfer, and while we tried to figure out how to get him unstuck safely I distracted the patient with scoring updates. Wild times.

  3. 3:16 Tork has taken his fair share of criticism (from myself included), but I don't think I've ever heard anyone knock his defense before. He's always been very solid at 1st base. That's an odd one.

  4. I think prize picks had a hand in this game outcome. Amazing how both starting pitchers got pulled right before they hit their strikeouts. And both under produced. Both had their supposed worst games in a while.
