MLB LIVE🔴 Seattle Mariners vs Oakland Athletics – Jul 29, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
and welcome in everybody. Glad you’re with us. An AL West matchup on the show. It’s the Seattle Mariners taking on the Athletics. First pitch coming your way next. Just about ready to roll. And on the hill in this one, Jeffrey Springs. Well, he’s been a very dependable starter for his club. And what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him. And it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball. Maybe it’s the release point, maybe it’s the motion, but just some way somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side. JP Crawford leading things off and takes a strike. the wind and the pitch. Now a pop up on the infield. Urella settles under this one, makes the catch for the out. And now we check out the Mariners lineup. And no doubt a big factor in this series so far. Julio Rodriguez and he’s about as hot as they come right now. Boo. Three home runs already in this series. He looks awfully comfortable at the plate right now. swing is just flat out locked in. It’s in the zone for a long time. So, he’s getting a lot of barrel. He’ll be looking to do more damage in this one. Julio Rodriguez in the box now as he leaves that one up high. Next offering is fouled back. misses outside and it’s two and one. One out. Base is empty. Hammers that one deep left field and forget it. He’ll touch them all. That’s his fourth home run of the series and it gives him the lead in the first. It’s one- nothing. You can’t ask for a better start than hitting a home run in your first at bat to give your team the lead. Well, I’m sure there’s a big grin on his face right now. Boo. He’s probably had some of those that didn’t stay fair, but off the bat it looked like he was going to foul. Was able to keep it in there. Tucked it nicely and he gets the jog around the bases. Good for him. And first offering is fouled off. Next offering is fouled back. And that’s a strikeout looking. Not sure about that call. Pitcher might have gotten a friendly strike three. So he gets the call and picks up the strikeout looking. Sometimes with a good hitter at the plate, he’ll be the one to get the benefit of the doubt if he lays off on a close pitch like that. But just not right there. Strike zone definitely expand a little bit with two strikes. Josh Naylor in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. Check swinging and he went and it’s 0 and two. 0 and two. And they’ll do it again. That missed by a lot at a count one and two. chases the change up in the dirt. Throw to first in time. So the drop third strike doesn’t hurt him and that’s that. But they’re off to a good start as they pick up a run on this solo shot. It’s an early one- nothing lead. Back here with my pal Singi and today’s starting pitcher, Logan Gilbert. And Chris, pitching on the road has not been particularly kind to him. Yeah. And you don’t want to be too quick to say that he can’t pitch on the road. Sometimes, you know, it’s just a matter of luck. It’s not having a feel difference between the bullpin mound to the mound out there on the playing field. Don’t know what it is, but I know this. He’s got good enough stuff to overcome and get it done on the road as well as at home. So, we’ll see what he’s able to do in this one. Carlos Cortez, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. Next offering in there for a strike and the count one and one. And the slider just misses. Just missed. That one misses. So a lead off walk. Here’s Luis Orias. Entered the game on defense, so this is his first trip to the plate in this one at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Ball outside. Runner at first with no outs here. That’s in there and the count one and two. That’s a great take right there. Even though it’s a strike with the situation runner on first base, you want to keep the ball off the ground and you swing at that pitch, most likely you roll into a double play. got him swinging for the strike out. Some high cheese for strike three. But that kind of velocity, an elevated fast ball, even if it’s still in the strike zone, can be tough for hitters to get on top of. Next up for the A’s, Brent Rooker. Let’s go. And that one fouled off. Cortez over at first with one away. That’s towards center. Rodriguez settles under it. calls it in. Two away. And time now to check out the A’s lineup. Finding themselves down a run early. They’d like to punch back here with a run of their own. Absolutely, Boo. But I don’t expect them to change their approach because of that run. They still want to put together strong at bats. Be patient out there and get a feel for this starting pitcher. And now a chance for Shay Langalers. This is a guy who is very highly regarded defensively. Fun to watch him control stuff behind the plate. Good game caller, good at framing, but it’s that big arm that really stands out. Yeah, the first offering is not close. Yeah, and because he’s got the big arm, he pays attention to the running game and is sure to manage it. That’s the ball. When you have a catcher that can throw like that, a pitcher doesn’t have to worry as much about the slide step. He can keep his mechanics intact and have a better opportunity of getting that hitter out with a swing and miss and ball forward to a board. He did not take the bat off his shoulder the entire at bat. Tyler Soderstrom. So digging in Tyler Soderstrom and that’s pushed foul off to the left and out of play. Two outs and fouled offs away a little bit. No advance. Good job behind the dish. Ah, ground ball and that’s through the infield. Throw in holds the lead runner at third. So, it’ll be bases loaded and two gone. Back against the wall with two strikes, but found a way. Got the top of the ball a little bit, but not much. That was hit pretty hard through the infield. So, I think he’ll be happy with that swing. Definitely generated some good bat speed. So bases all loaded up. Jacob Wilson up next for the A’s inside. Just missed. Well, with this many pitches thrown here in this first inning, I mean, you’re giving the other team a really good look. He’s going to have to find a way to get some weak contact, maybe a swing and miss, get into that dugout and hit the reset button. So they’re all loaded up with two outs. Center field. Rodriguez settles under it, brings it in, and that will end the inning. A’s threatened, but leave them loaded. They trail here one- nothing. Top of the second. Now it’s Randy Rosarena. Randy Rosarena, baby. Springs back to work. That one inside. And that’s ball one. You have to be creative pitching against bad ball hitters. You got to add some velocity, subtract at times. Just avoiding the heart of the plate isn’t always going to be enough. Guys like this can hurt you with pitches you wouldn’t expect him to swing at. High chopper to third. Urchella whips it across. One out in the second. That is six. The designated hitter, Jorge Panco. The batter now, Jorge Palano. A switch hitter batting right. Springs 32 years old and they went out and made a trade for him last season. Swing and a pop off in foul ground. Hauls it in and there’s two away. Going to have to have a little more discipline in future at bats. That pitch looked good, but you can’t hit it. It was just too high in the zone. You usually see a swing and miss or weak contact in the infield. Dominic zone in the box now. No balls in a strike. Two outs. Base is empty. And there’s a breaking ball that drops in there. That front door slider is such a devastating pitch. You don’t want to get beat by the inside fast ball. So you cheat a little bit and then by the time it gets there, it’s out of the swing plane. Breaking ball misses down and away. That one missing inside. And the next pitch is way outside and a swing and a miss. Beat him with a fast ball. Mariners go down quietly there, but they still lead it one- nothing. Lawrence Butler digs in now. That’s a little bit low. Right through there for a strike. Our umpire behind the plate, Jerry Hillsdale. High praise for Jerry when we talk to people around the game. Yeah, no doubt about it, Boo. He’s very straightforward, very consistent back there. So, most of the time you’re not even going to think about him. That’s a good thing. They tried to get him to chase on a slider down and away. Fouls one off. Two and two. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Swimming it deep right field. Way back. That’s long gone. Home run number 15 on the year and it ties it up. It’s 1-1. That was blasted. Absolutely. No doubt off the bat. Blue. Clearly some frustration out there on the mound right now. I mean, that ball was so close to going foul. Would have been a long strike, but instead batter gets rewarded. Did a nice job of getting to the pitch and hitting it hard enough to get over the fence. Gioella steps in. Yeah, that’s in for a strike. 0 and one. Well, you just got to delete it. You give up that leadoff home run. Go back to work. Focus on this next batter. And that’s in the dirt. Strike. Pitch misses. It’s two and one. And that’s a pitch early in this game. He’s called for a strike. Struggling with command issues. He’s got to get a little help from the umpire. 22 now. And a slider misses down and away. outside and that is ball four. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch and I tell you what, he earned that walk. Next up for the A’s, Max Schuman. Sliced hard but fouled. Tied up here in the early going. Bottom of the zone and a cold stride. Probably the best one we have seen. Throwing it where he wanted to have a nice tight spin to it and a teaser. just off the edge of the plate. Swing and a miss. Struck him out and an excellent job keeping it right there. Well, take a look at the three pitch sequence here. Pretty simple in terms of putting him away at the plate. Once you’re ahead 02 as a pitcher, you can really expand the zone and see how aggressive that hitter is going to be trying to protect and battle. And right there, clearly he was in swing mode, but all you can do is hope to foul that off. So, the batting order turns over. Carlos Cortez getting ready to hit. And that’s him for a strike. ball in the dirt and the runner still where he is. Man at first, one away in the dirt but kept close. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Kind of a weird pitch and a weird swing on that strike out. It’s just a slider that caught a lot of the plate. I’d say a very hitable location. But in the box, I think he just gave up on it way too early and by the time he realized it was dropping into the zone, he just fires off a really poor swing. Urias in the box now as he looks at ball one. Second played appearance of the day for him. Just missed. Well, he looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout. Two gone, but the go-ahead run is at first. Bottom half of inning number two. Next offering is in for a strike. Swing and a miss. He was late. Strike two. I guess you throw it that hard, you can get away with locations like that. Right down the middle, but I still think it’s a dangerous. Another and that’s three straight strikeouts. So, one run on one hit, no errors, and a runner left. We head on now to the top of the third. All tied 1-1. So digging in Ben Williamson William pitch is in there. Strike one. And that one missing inside. A sharp slider. And that is in for a strike. And the count is one and two. ball and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again and it remains two and two. swings and hits one in the air out towards right field and that’ll get off into the seats. Well, this is a good time to step out of the box, take a deep breath, reset. Couple of change ups. Probably won’t see another one here. He goes down looking. Well, just couldn’t pull the trigger on the fast ball right there and I don’t think he was taking it. Thinking it might be a called ball or anything. I just think he was flat out frozen. Did not expect that location in my opinion. And now Cole Young. One and0. And another ball. Next offering misses and that’s ball three. I would expect in this three 0 count you’re taking all the way. See if he’ll walk you and that one clips the corner. popped in the air left field. Rooker pulls it down and there’s two gone. JP back to the top of the Seattle order. Here’s the shortstop at the plate. JP Crawford. He’s over one and there’s a foul ball. Check. Swing. Did he go? Yes, he did. No ball. Two strikes. Foul ball. Still 0 and two. Two down. Nobody on. Good eye right there. Really good take, especially with two strikes out towards left center. Rooker sizes this one up and makes the play and that’s out number three. After two and a half, it remains a 1-1 ball game. 345 do up for the home team. Now the left fielder Brent Rooker 0 for one with a fly out to center. Slice the other way. That’s a base hit. So a runner aboard to start the inner. Well clearly he was ready to hit right there. Just a cookie down the middle. I mean, those are the ones you dream about. Ones in the cage you’re just hoping you get in the ball game. Right down the middle. Not a whole lot of velocity. Right on top of it. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Shay Langalers. Worked a walk in his first trip to the plate and that one fouled off. one. Hit on the ground to the right side and it finds its way through for a hit. Throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. Two consecutive base hits for this team. Not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball on play. That’s a team at bat right there. a nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep. Tyler Soderstroke up next for the A’s. One for one with a single so far. And that is out of play. Though Chris, through the early stages, he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. down. Way to lay off that pitch down. And it’s strike two. One and two is the count. And a swing and a miss. Now, five strikeouts for him on the M. Typically, that high fast ball, if it’s close to the top of the strike zone, a hitter, if he’s prepared for it, can get to it. But that one just had that little jump at the end, which indicates there’s a good spin rate on it. And it didn’t decrease in velocity as that hitter’s internal clock would expect it to. And that’s why you see the swing and miss. And now Jacob Wilson in the dirt. No movement on the base. It’s ball one. There’s the strike up high and now it’s even one and one. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. One ball, two strikes. Two on, one out. Hard ground ball for base stop. Runner around third on his way to the plate. The throw is offline and he’s in to score. It’s 2-1. Well, there you go. The RBI machine. Another clutch run scoring at back. Yeah, he’s been so good in these situations. Call it clutch if you want, but his resume speaks for itself. First and second, one out. And now the center fielder, Lawrence Butler. He’s already homered in this game. And a first pitch fastball is in for a strike. on the ground to first. Could be two. Naylor tossed to second. Return throw to first. Got him. Double play. And that’ll do it. But the RBI single pushes across a run as the A’s are on top. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Julio Rodriguez. Up next for the Mariners, Julio Rodriguez. Baby, let’s go. Swinging a foul out of play. Well, these Mariners just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. So many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches they’re chasing outside of the strike zone. You can’t do much of anything with those locations. And that’s been true again today. That’s the ball. Hard on the ground to first. He’ll do it himself. Lead off hitter retired in the fourth. And as a pitcher, when the hitters are swinging at everything, you feel no need to challenge inside the zone. You just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond, and they just keep eating right out of your hand. Raleigh stands in here. Takes ball one low. Slashed foul down the right side. That’ll hook off into the seats. A’s leading by a run. Swang and a miss. There’s that change up. One, two. Got him. He picks up his fifth strike out on the hill. Fast ball inside just freezes the hitter. I don’t think he was ready to pull the trigger. A lot of times hitters are looking away and that one locked him up. And now it’s Josh Naylor 0 for one so far. And that one fouled off. Two down, nobody on. Top half of inning number four. Next offering is in for a strike. And a foul ball. stays alive. That’s outside. It’s a ball and two strikes. That one missed. Oh, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the atbat. I’m sure there’s some times where a pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter. Eighth pitch of the at coming up. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming. Spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another. Quite the matchup we’re seeing here. Six foul balls in this atbat alone. Really making them work out there. Two outs. Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. That misses and the count’s full. Wow. This guy’s really battling up there as if his run is the game-winning run. I love his tenacity. Foul ball and it remains a full count. keeps the attack going with a foul ball. Swang and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. So he gets a hit after a long battle with the pitcher. Well, wore him down after an extended played appearance. It ends with a knock. At that point in at bat for a hitter, when you’ve seen that many pitches, you’ve gotten a look, you’ve fouled off pitches. So, the confidence level is extremely high. And it seems like when you go that deep into a bat, the hitter usually comes out on top. No strikes. the other way makes the grab and that’ll end the inning. So, one hit is all they get to the bottom of inning number four. Now, it’s the A’s two and the Mariners won. Now, here’s Gio Urchella walked his first time. Marella, he was late there. Strike one. You know, these athletics showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. They’ve worked three walks already, so that proves they’re not anxious up there. They’re sticking to their game plan and it’s working. One. Next pitch misses. Now two balls in a strike on the inside corner for a strike. Got him looking. So he picks up his six strike out of the ball game. Wow. That’s a tough call for the hitter, but the pitcher will take that all day long. not quite in the strike zone, but he found a spot that the umpire is going to, at least for now, allow him to get that call. So, hitters are going to have to make an adjustment, but pitchers are going to learn from those things and really try to exploit them if they can. The batter now, Max Schuman, there’s the strike. Here’s a swing in a line drive and that’s a base hit into right field and that turns the lineup over. So the lineup flips over. Carlos Cortez up next for the A’s. A strike out and a walk. Swing and a miss. Strike one. 0 and one. That one to first and it goes just fouled. Gilbert picks to first. Schuman back on a dive. And there’s a fly ball deep right field. Ranging back and brings it in at the wall. Plenty of extra carry on that ball to right right there. Almost got out of here thanks to the wind. It’s whipping right now. Luis. So up next, Luis Urizas who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Takes off. That’s in for a strike. Throw save. Yeah, I like being aggressive right there with two outs. It’s kind of a classic steel situation. You get thrown out, no big deal. That guy at the plate leads off the next inning. Now a single to the outfield can push a run across. Runner at second. Two down. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. That one finds the zone. One and two. If you’re not ready for that pitch, you’re just going to swing and miss or pop it up. Waste the atbat. If you’re going to let it go, you better be ready to swing it. Man on second. Two down. That’s inside. Spoils that one. And it remains two and two. Two outs and one in scoring position. On the ground to first. Tosses to the pitcher covering the bag. That is the inning. The A’s strand one, but they still lead it two to one. Now here is Jorge Palano. Popped out and foul ground. First time through. Springs back to work. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Palano 31 years old and he was born in the Dominican Republic. That one drilled left field. One away. And now the right fielder, Dominic Panzone. His first at bat was a strikeout. Check swing. He went too far and it’s a strike. You’re a bald wood strike. Here’s the swing and a line drive and a base hit to right field. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. now batting. Nice line drive to Pullside. Met it out front, but just stayed through it nice enough and ripped it into the outfield. One down. Ben Williamson up next for the Mariners. Struck out looking his first time. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. off the mark there. Two and 0. That’s a ball. He hasn’t fallen behind in the count like this all day. He’s in danger of walking his first batter right here. Next offering is in for a strike on this count. Runner not known for his speed, but I think you got to put him in motion. Try to avoid a double play here. Boo. Fouls one away. And now three and two with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. and a swing and a miss and that’s sixks for him in this one. Oh, that high for fast ball has become such a great pitch for pitchers to finish hitters off. They’re trying to stay back with two strikes, make sure that they can handle something off speed, and just with good spin rate, good rotation through the zone, elevate it a little bit, get a lot of swings and misses. And that’s a really nice job right there. Now it’s the second baseman, Cole Young in there for a strike at the top of the zone. That’s a bullet, but it goes foul. Tying run is at first and we’re in the top of the fifth. Battling here as he fouls it away. Hard hit left side. They get the force and the inning is over. One left for Seattle and our score remains 2-1. 345 do up for the home team. Here’s the left fielder, Brent Rooker. One for two. And that drops in for a strike. Action in the pen down there. Trent Thornton preparing to come on if needed. Legina getting cranked up as well. Just missed. That was a good pitch there. Had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it. He had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Fouls it off. Still one and two. breaking ball in there. Got him looking and he’s up to seven strikeouts. I wouldn’t know personally unless you’re going to consider my little league exploits, but it’s got to feel good to break off a curveball like that and completely lock a hitter off, especially on the front door. Listen, I’ve been on the receiving side of that. It’s not a good feeling, but that’s really good pitching right there. And now here’s the A’s catcher, Shay Langalers. That one’s in there. 411. One down. Base is empty. And that’s through there for a strike. And it’s nothing and two. Two pretty nasty sliders to get this hitter in an 02 count. If you’re up there at the plate, you got to look up in the zone and spit on anything that’s down. Good horizontal movement on that curve ball right there and just enough to get him to chase it. He placed it just off the corner and that’s one of those where a pitcher says if he’s going to miss, he’s going to miss off the plate. So, really good job. Great pitch for the punch out. Two down, base is empty. Tyler Soderstrom the next to hit. Fast ball for a strike at 95. That’s inside and it’s one and one. Definitely a swing and miss slider down and in. He finished that really well. just couldn’t get him to offer at it. Swing and a miss and he got him to chase. Spin rate’s outstanding on that high fast ball. Really tough to hit. Next pitch way upstairs. Just off the outside edge. Nasty back door slider. There’s really nothing you can do with that if you swing at it. So, it’s a good take by him. Jacob Wilson in the on deck circle for the A’s. That’s ball four. Tried another fast ball but missed the spot. Gosh, another walk in this one. Man, he is having some real issues with control. And here comes the Mariners manager to the mound. Pitching change coming. Logan Gilbert out of the game. Walks a big problem for him today as he leaves on the hook for the loss. back after a quick break with a new pitcher. Trent Thornton gets handed the rock out of the pen. Still pretty early in the ball game. So, this bullpen has some work ahead of him. Best case scenario might be if he can come in here and get several quick outs, kind of bridge the gap that starter left for him. So, two down and now the DH Jacob Wilson. It’s amazing. We get a chance to talk to a lot of opposing managers. This guy scares managers on the other team as much as anyone. And he gets to fly beneath the radar with the other more recognizable names in this lineup. That one fouled off. looked like he got a little excited on that fast ball. Got to think to yourself, I want to stay up the middle that way. If you’re a little bit early, you hit it out of the ballpark. If you’re a little late, opposite field not. And a ground ball to first. He steps on the bag. Inning over on the ground out. Took just two pitches to finish the frame out of the bullpen. And now the shorts stop. JP Crawford for two in this one. And that misses off the outside edge. The A’s bullpen has some movement. Ben Bowden, the young lefty, looks to be getting himself ready. Alvarado also throwing and that’s in there for a strike. And now it’s even one and one. The shorts stop takes the ball. And a good eye there. Well, he’s not afraid to fall into a two- strike count. Knows the strike zone very well. So much so that I think umpires will look at him and determine whether it’s a ball or strike, if he swings or not. That one down the line and that’s just foul. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. Fights it off. He’ll see another. Pretty impressive. We haven’t seen that pitch from him much, but he’s got a really good feel when he throws it on the ground. right side can’t glove it cleanly and they get the out. Good recovery wasn’t easy following the misplay. Julio Rodriguez. Here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen. Jeffrey Springs will depart and he was a tough nut to crack. Pretty stingy from start to finish. Back with a new arm after a quick break. Here’s a new pitcher from the pen, Justin Sterner. Still a lot of game left and this game could go either way. So, this is a big opportunity for him to get some important outs and try to help carry this lead into the later innings. And now it’s Julio Rodriguez. He’s already homered here in this one. swing and a ball lifted in the air right field. He just missed it. Puts it away for the Cal Raleigh up next for the Mariners. This guy is one of the best athletes in the sport. And a first pitch fastball is in for a strike. Come on. Cut on and missed. And it’s a strikeout. And that is the inning. Three up, three down that time. 789. Two up in the home half of the inning. It’s the A’s two and the Mariners one. Lawrence Butler now at the plate. Just movement in the bullpen. Jackson Kar appears to be getting loose. That’s inside. And the count now two nothing. And that’s outside. That one misses. So a lead off walk. You get a walk and you get a walk. Everyone gets a walk. Boo. Gorella to the plate. Really thriving with the bat this season here at home. Let’s go. And delivers outside. One ball. No strikes. Outside. That’s the ball. last couple of pitches, breaking balls away. I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count. And the sweeper catches the plate. Nobody out. Runner at first. Ground ball left side. Could be two. Off balance feed. There’s one. Back to first and it’s over his head. And this ball’s going to wind up out of play. Phil no trouble getting the double play started, but clearly some trouble on that return throw to first. I’m not sure if the runner going into second had a part in that or if it was something like a bad transfer. Either way, could have been two outs, but instead they got to work around a runner in scoring position now. So digging in, Max Schuman delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Man at second. Pitch misses inside. One ball, one strike. Come on. Got him. And there’s two away. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strikeout. Back to the top of the lineup now. Here’s the leadoff hitter for the A’s. Carlos Cortez clips the corner. It’s 0 and one. 0 and one. Runner at second. Two down here in the bottom of the six. Foul ball there. Not close with that one. Now one and two ground ball left side high throw to first and he can’t reach it and this ball’s going to wind up out of play. So a big time costly mistake there. So runner at second, two down. Luis up next for the A’s. And the first pitch misses for ball one. The A’s looking to add another breaking ball inside and it’s two and 0. And that’s in there at the knees. Man, this guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today. Fouled off left side in there. Got him looking and that one split the plate. Saw a couple of errors lead to a run. Seventh inning coming up. It’s the A’s three and the Mariners won. New pitcher now, Ben Bowden. Well, the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect a tight lead late in the ball game. Some of them are just wired different. So, we’ll see what he’s got here. Here’s Josh Naylor. Put together a great bat last time. Really battled. Ended up with the base hit. First offering misses badly for ball one. And another ball. You get to this part of the order. Yeah, there’s some pop there, but more likely there are some base hits. So very important to be patient. Let the pitcher walk you if you will. Here’s a 200. That’s down and in. A slider missed. So definitely a little wild right out of the gate. Well, it could be a little tough coming from the bullpin mound to this mound, but you’ve got to find a way to get ahead in the count quickly. He hasn’t. We’ll see how this bat turns out. That just missed. He walked him on four pitches and that’ll bring the tying run to the plate. Randy Rosena up next for the Mariners. Highf fly ball and that one curling foul down the right side with the tying run at the plate here in the top half of inning number seven. Up and in. And it’s a ball and a strike. One ball, one strike. had a big swing and a miss. Next offering is down low. The tying run at the plate. swing and a miss at the splitter and it’s a strike out. Well, that splitter out of the hand, it just sort of jumps on you and your interpretation is here comes a fast ball again. Well, it never really reaches because the bottom falls out of it when you swing over the top and that’s why they call it a split finger fast because it looks like a four seamer. And up next for Seattle, Jorge Palano outfield deep here trying to prevent anything over their heads. That’s in there. And it’s 0 and one. Tying run at the plate into center. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And there’s two down. Dominic. Now it’s the right fielder Dominic can zone. A little surprised we don’t see a pinch hitter here, but the lefty lefty matchup. That clips the corner. No balls, one strike. Two outs. A little out front there as he swings through it. Going to really need to hang in there with that front side against this left-handed breaking ball. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Got him looking. That’s out number three. So, no runs in the inning despite the leadoff walk. And that does it. Seventh inning stretch time. It’s the A’s three and the Mariners won. Jackson Kowar on a pitch out of the pen here. Just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpin can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. 345 do up for the home team. Brent Rooker digs in now. One for three. First off, and it just misses. No, that missed. Two count. Great hit the dish. If you’re going to miss, you’ve got to miss outside the zone. You miss inside the strike zone, you’ll be asking the umpire for a new baseball. The 2-1 and a swing to miss. Two and two. Runs it up to 96 to record the punch out. up next. So now it’s the fourhole hitter Shay Langelers. And first offering is fouled off. Oh, this is just part for the course these days. Huge fast balls coming out of the bullpen. Fought off foul. One down, base is empty. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and two. Ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. Well, that certainly feels good when you can win the atbat after being down in the count up against it with two strikes right there. He got that front foot down and pitch recognition was on point. Pretty impressive for an 02 count. Now a chance for Tyler Sodstrom. First pitch misses. Yeah, there’s a know the count. Next offering is in for a strike. The kick and the pitch. Runner goes. That one fouled off. Two and two. line drive caught. That swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well. I know it didn’t produce a hit, but he made solid contact. And that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate. Jacob Wilson up next for the A’s. 10 in the dirt. Blocked. Squirts away a little bit. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow left field. A Rosarena makes the grab and that’s the inning. The A’s strand one as the lead remains 3-1. New pitcher on now, Elvis Alvarado. Well, walks have certainly been an issue for him this season, so we’ll see what kind of command he has. Ben Williamson getting ready to hit. First pitch just misses. It’s getting squeezed a little bit here late. Swing and a miss as he was out front that time. ball that’s outside. Ripped to third and caught. Well, baseball can be cruel, can’t it? I mean, sometimes it gives and sometimes it takes away. He did everything right on that swing, but he’s got nothing to show for it. Here’s the second baseman, Cole Young. Alvarado, a 64 righty, 26 years old. They got him off of waiverss earlier this season. Swinging a liner foul off to the right. Base is empty, one away. And we’re in the top of the eighth. Let’s go. That one pushed foul out of play off to the left, stays alive. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Sway and a ball popped up. Two down. Seattle. And now for Seattle, JP Crawford 0 for three in this one. Fast for a strike. 01. And that’s outside and one and one. The shorts stop takes the ball. That’s a base hit and that keeps the inning alive. Well, patience and discipline paid off right there as he got into an advantage count. Solid swing from start to end. On time with everything, really good balance, nice extension, and he met it out front for the line drive knock at the plate. Julio Rodriguez. Ball one, no strikes. One ball, no strikes. And another ball. That’s outside ball. That’s low. That’s a ball. This is a really good feeling for a hitter. At this point in the ball game, you know that they don’t want to walk you. So, you’re going to get a pitch to hit. You just better not miss it. Next offering is in for a strike. 3-1 and the time run is on base. Walks out of the bullpen. can absolutely kill your momentum very quickly. They’re in some hot water trying to protect this lead. And here’s the catcher, Cal Raleigh. He’s one of the best players in the game. And things could change quickly here with one swing. First pitch not close. Well, this is a critical spot for both the pitcher and the hitter. You can learn a lot about a guy by how he handles these pressure situations. Rip down the line way back there. It’s got a chance and it is foul and fouled off. really going after him here. All fast balls to get ahead in the count. Outside low. The countdown now two and two. Two and two. And a swing and a miss. And he’s gone for the fourth time tonight. Two left on. Home half of inning number eight. Straight ahead. It’s the A’s three and the Mariners won. New pitcher for the Mariners, Casey Legumina. He’s having a ton of success facing left-handed hitters this season, so this seems like a smart move to turn to him with a lefty at the plate. Here’s the center fielder, Lawrence Butler. Lawrence Butler. spits the plate. That’s strike one. Late swing fouled to the left. Got him swinging. Here’s Gella. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Back center field. man at first with one gone. Next up for the A’s, Max Schuman. Swaging a popup foul out of play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands. Next offering is fouled back. A short stop takes the ball. Baby, let’s go. sent down on strikes, went back to the fast ball, and it was effective. Well, he’s going to have some thinking to do when he leaves the ballpark after this one. That was his third strike out, and this one looking obviously, so he’s been a little overmatched. He’s got to find a way just to be more competitive up there at the plate. Cortez stands in with two away as he takes a ball. Next offering is in for a strike. Swinging and a miss. There’s the change up. One and two is the count. And they’ll do it again. Outside corner. Got him looking. Mason Miller comes on trying to close it out. And one thing on him, he’s been really good this season of keeping the ball in the park. Not an easy guy to take deep. Josh Naylor now at the plate. The wind of the pitch. That misses the zone. Ball one. And another ball. Smoked on the ground to second. The throw to first. Now one gone in the ninth. That play won’t be trending on social media later on, but it’s still important to execute it to perfection. This game is a lot harder than it looks. Partner Randy Rosarena up next for the Mariners. They had a strike right through there. That one in triple digits. Oh, he doesn’t get the call and the count even one and one. One and one. The M’s trailing by two here in the top of the ninth. Swing and a miss as he was out front. One ball, two strike and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. swing and a miss and he chases that one in the dirt. Catcher has it, fires the first, gets the out. Two down after the strike out. You know, Boo, you often think of sliders more for that horizontal movement, but most of the good ones have both vertical depth and that horizontal movement. And that’s what we saw right there. A good drop on the break and got him to swing over the top. So, last chance for the Mariners. And next is the designated hitter, Jorge Palanco. First pitch doesn’t find the zone inside. Just missed. That was absolute gas. Triple digits on the gun. It’s just a different experience as a hitter watching that go by. Right through there for a strike. Back-to-back fast balls in. That last one called for a strike. Probably go away, but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off. Fouls one off. Two and two. This could end it. And that one missing low. Pressure Mountain right here with the tying run in the on deck circle. He’s got to find the strike zone. Swing and it just struck him out and that is the ball game. Whether you’re a season ticket holder or you just come to a couple of games a year to see your team win at home, there’s just something special about that. Good job by this team to get it done for the hometown fans. And your final 3-1. The A’s hang on to win it. For Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show, I’m John Shambi saying so long.
