Can’t exactly fault him if we’re being honest. The man lost a child. That would weigh heavy on anyone’s soul.
Good for him
I can’t blame the poor guy. I wouldn’t wish that on my enemies, much less my teammates. Hope he’s ok and sad to see him rebound on a decent team.
100% get that after the passing of his child, that’s horrible.
Hearing a lack of care and effort before that though due to contract reasons is a bummer. I really liked Mooney.
I don’t blame him at all. He’s human and deserves some grace after what he went through.
Charvarius I think all (sane) Niner fans can say we 1000% understand and we wish him and his family the absolute best ❤️🙏
I wish nothing but the best for him and his family. No one should have to experience what he went through.
He’s an amazing player and I hope no one ever doubts that.
He felt disrespected that the team was supposedly not going to offer him an extension. He’s right about that but he said he pretty much phoned in his play before his daughter passed away and didn’t care to be coached before he went on bereavement leave and when he came back to finish his last season with the team. I just wish he was at least appreciative that the team gave him as much bereavement leave he needed to be away from the team.
Eh.
He was on the last year of a deal. He checks out. He plays like shit before all the tragedy. He walks.
Demo Lenoir was on the last year of his deal. He balls out. The team signs him to a contract extension mid-season.
Somehow Ward still got more than Lenoir. I think the Niners won out on this one.
Mooney is a player I’ll always wish the best for. I understand not extending him based on where the team was headed in terms of a soft rebuild, but I’m sad to hear the niners didn’t even pursue talks for a contract extension. His comments about the effects that holdouts had on team culture is also something I hope the niners have taken into account going forward too.
Sounds like he was pissed as hell at the Aiyuk drama.
He got surgery on the team’s recommendation, played with them, didn’t hold out, and was told he’s not being extended. And BA holds in and gets his bag. That’s gotta sting. Horrible mismanagement by the FO on that one, I think. As a fan, that’s annoying as shit. One All-Pro doesn’t wanna even try bc the fo is paying the other guy instead, and the other guy got paid by trying to be a pain in the ass. Talk about a lose-lose.
That being said, things had to have only gotten worse for him after his baby died. Goddamn. Wishing him the best.
Closest thing we’ve had to a shutdown corner in like two decades. He’ll be missed
I won’t talk bad about Ward but a lot of these comments are from people who didn’t read the article. He didn’t check out because of the (obviously tragic) baby situation. He said he was checked out all year because we didn’t give him an extension. Which is pretty lame
I think most fans did as well after a certain point last year.
The comments here make it pretty clear who read the article and who didn’t.
Then he should get zero bucks.
Fuck ward.
Mike🤡Silver’s a self important douche-waffle and C. Ward’s a bit of a dolt. Ward’s just chirping, but we had a good (3) years with him. If we’re being honest, he was solid but something was always off. He’s not worth a second major contract. And considering the reporting here, he’s telling us hisself that he ain’t worth a contract.
I can’t figure out whose got more vinegar, Ward for the sh*t he’s going on record about? Or is it Mike🤡Silver with his bitterness following the salary dump/release at the SF Chronicle? Mike🤡Silver had worse engagement than Lowell Cohn (who comes on Grant’s show once a week) in this media market.
I’ve not really been paying attention to Mike🤡Silver since, well, always.
We noticed.
Pathetic. We were paying him $13,160,000. Fuck your extension.
So another reason Brandon Aiyuk has hurt this team.
98 percent of athletes are only in it for the bag. And the bag doesn’t bring happiness in and of itself.
>Even before everything happened with my baby, I really wasn’t super motivated.
>I was hurt when I realized I wasn’t getting a contract extension or even an offer for an extension. So, I wasn’t motivated; like, from OTAs all the way through camp”
>I gave zero fucks
If you don’t have a problem with this then don’t call yourself a Niner Fan.
Nice 👍
Me too
Sounds like he’s trying to come up with a reason other than the obvious. Homie doesn’t have to explain anything.
After what happened to him I can’t imagine what thoughts were in his head and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s still trying to find answers.
I hope the change in scenery brings him peace. Go make us proud Mooney!
Ward was solid, reliable and stayed healthy. I think we over paid in Demo and could have kept Ward with better negotiations however gotta pay Purdy and that threw a wrench in cap
He didn’t even need to say it. It was obvious.
I’d compare it to a lot of people who slack off before they leave for their next job or when they are getting laid off. I’d be more upset if they actually looked like serious contenders last season. I think a lot of players checked out after losing the Super Bowl because they knew it was their best chance and big changes were coming soon, they just aren’t saying it. Players like CMC and Trent trying to get guaranteed money before Brock got his contract. The team didn’t seem locked in for another run. Sloppy play everywhere. At least Mooney didn’t pull a Campbell:
Ward admitted that watching other teammates hold out for contracts last offseason while he rehabbed from surgery under team advice was frustrating.
“Like, I was *there*,” Ward said. “I had surgery after the season under the advice of them, and I was rehabbing with them. I had (been) All-Pro, too, and I didn’t get paid, so I was like, ‘What the f–k?’ Like, people are not showing up and getting paid, and I wasn’t. So, it definitely made me feel some type of way. That type of stuff, it does take a toll on the whole team.”
Look what Indy has to look forward to. Guys either have integrity or they dont.
