Second-Year WR Jeshaun Jones Turning Heads at Vikings Training Camp
[Music] What’s going on, Jeromes? So, every other mom expects rookie third round pick Ty Felton, the pride of Maryland, to be the most productive former TUP wide receiver in Vikings camp this year. But what if I well, and he’s doing great, don’t get me wrong. Like, returning kicks and punts, uh, working his way in the wide receiver room, it’s great. What if I told you there’s another Maryland wide receiver who’s turning heads at Vikings training camp? Enter me and Jashawn. Jashawn Jones, a former teammate to Tai Felton, a former Turp, all that stuff. Plus, it’s kind of weird that the Turpps TPens are they tortoises or the Turtles? Because like Rockco’s kind of getting into sports and he literally picked Maryland as favorite team because their logo is a turtle. That’s freaking awesome, man. It’s great. But Shawn Jones, uh, who was a UDFA last year, uh, picked up by the Vikings. He’s had a decent camp last year, spent time on the practice squad, signed to a futures contract. He’s doing some work. Uh, he’s doing some work. Don’t don’t get me wrong. And remember, the Vikings signed him to pretty significant guaranteed money last year as a UDFA, 225,000. Uh, and he was certainly good to go. All right. And, you know, his time in Maryland was fantastic. A nice little possession receiver. didn’t test the greatest, but it put up big-time numbers and it was able to keep Tai Felson at bay. You know, before Felton blew up the year after Deshawn Jones left College Park and his scouting report, you know, he was a really solid possession receiver and the Vikings found themselves a good one as a UDFA. It’s from NFL draft diamonds. Uh Deshawn Jones possesses good hands and route running ability and translate best as a slot the next level. Even though he possesses good size at 6’1, he doesn’t excel at playing up to bigger up to bigger than his frame outside. Uh Jones does release well off the line of scrimmage inside and out and tracks the ball well, but struggles with body control and securing catches outside his frame downfield and around the boundary. Jones will serve as a good practice squad training camp body for a team. But I don’t believe he’ll produce much at all uh for an offense if he’s able to crack the 53. Oh, wait. Oh, you just wait. Right. And of course last year too, remember there there was a little connection with JJ McCarthy who was working with the twos and the threes last year and Deshawn Jones. I mean A2 what it do make making some plays. Don’t think it it it certainly did not go unnoticed, right? And long story longer ALS athletic a good piece the other day talking about training camp storylines and number four was the undrafted receiver to monitor. Oo, wide receivers Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, Jaylen Naylor, and Ty Felton are shoe wins to make the team. I’m a shoein for hater of the year. Uh, behind them, it’s anyone’s guess. Rond Delmore and Tim Jones are more experienced. But one name to keep an eye on is secondyear player Deshawn Jones. The Maryland practice during training camp last year. Minnesota kept him on the practice squad and he took advantage. The most significant change for him between his fir uh between this year and last. Having an understanding of what we’re trying to do offensively, Jones said, uh, there’s a lot of formations and plays. Uh, it’s trying to slow things down. Competition for roster spots will be fierce. Uh, but they may hinge on special teams on draft receiver size Balden D. But Jones route running ability, especially for a room that may lose Jordan as a part of early season could be significant. So, uh, basically Shawn Jones a very polished route runner, uh, very adapt adaptable on special teams as well. Plus, that year inside the building, it’s important. And even though you’re on the practice squad, even though you’re on the scout team, even though you’re generally running the other team’s offense, just seeing how your own offense operates and works and able to study it and able to, you know, digest things over a year, I I think that’s very, very important, right? And the Vikings wide receiver room, like I said, Jefferson, Addison, Naylor, probably Rondale, you know, Ty Felton’s going to be in the mix as well, but if you’re going to miss Addison for a couple of games, you may have a spot open. But, you know, guys like Lucky Jackson, guys like Deshawn Jones, Dante Flemings, Miles Price have had a nice camp. Mesa plays early on, but I feel like Jones building on his solid second camp and a decent preseason last year. I feel like if he shows up and shows out and preseason, he’s going to make a good case, right? And this whole talk about possession receivers, right, of you know, CC, what what what it do? Like the greatest possession receiver of all time up there, Larry Fitzgerald. Like I obviously not saying Deshawn Jones in that same mold, but people say possession receiver like it’s a negative. Hey, possession means like, hey, we extend our possession by moving the damn chains. It’s what we do, man. And plus, I I I do love this story because it’s like a combination of Stefan Diggs and Adam Thelen because uh you have a Maryland wide receiver Diggs who was, you know, fifth round pick back in the day and also Adam Thielen undrafted possession receiver undrafted. I wanted UDFA trial for Mano State University Community College, $500 scholarship, all that stuff. It’s it’s it’s a combination. It’s an amalgamation. It’s an aggregate replacement. He is Deshawn Jones or something like that. I don’t know. I I just love bottom of the barrel scraping practice squad, make their way onto the roster, play some good special teams, rise on up. I love stories like that, man. And plus, I mean, Ty Ty Felton’s a bad dude. I mean, Deshawn Jones up there, too. All right. So, hope hopefully he continues having a good camp. Hopefully, he has a great preseason and hopefully it’s a tough decision uh for the Vikings come 53man roster cutdowns. Minimum practice squad. So, there you go. But your thoughts, our thoughts, player turn heads at Vikings training camp, a Maryland wide receiver, the other one, Deshawn Jones. Woo. That’s right, man. Let us know your thoughts, our thoughts. Comment section you guys up as you know to do skull production value. Heat. Heat.

Hey Andy thought you might want to know Adam Thielen's college is Minnesota State University Mankato. It used to be named Mankato State University. The community college in Mankato is named South Central College.
If Jeshaun Jones follows the Thielen model, then he'll be dynamite as a gunner this season, keep developing his routes and hands, then work his way to WR4 next season, and so on. Gotta have great hands, baby…Thielen's hands were like glue. The low road still gets to Scotland, eh?
A tortoise is mostly a land animal. A turtle is mostly a water animal. A terrapin is both land and water.
I mean…. J.J… seems like it tracks….😂😂😂
"I like turtles" video
Vikings receiver room is stacked !!!
when i was a kid i picked the vikings because of their logo… i can relate to the turtle being a deciding factor😂😂
Lucky Jackson is another one i think could be great! Our WR class run DEEP!! No worries there lol.. Wish we could keep them all. Lol Jeshuan jones is better than they thought!! Can't wait to see what happens.! SKOL!!!!!
Go watch jones highlights, beats guys so bad he turns around and mocks them running in backwards . Mr Mankato
I don't think possession wra are bad but when u have Addison and JJ two route runners mainly I feel it's better to have speed and explosiveness as the third guy
