So, let’s get into the topics on today’s show here. Most likely to be traded. Truthfully, I don’t think any of these names are going to be a surprise. And I’m going to lead with the one that I think is most likely going to be traded, and that is one I’m not thrilled about. It’s Jose Alvarado. One of my favorite players on the team. Him and Herb Jones are my two favorites currently. Trey Murphy’s in there, too. Looks a little further down just giving some stuff. But I love a lot of the guys on this team. But right now, number one is José Alvarado. Look, there was a good bit of interest in him last off season or not last offseason, last season leading up to the trade deadline. What I got told was in some capacity there was a first round pick offer for Jose Alvarado from the Milwaukee Bucks in some capacity. I don’t have the specifics for it. Look, for an undersized guard, that’s not a bad return. His contract was almost built to be traded at $4.5 million this year. It’s just a very, very movable deal. And when you look at him as a player, right? You know, I said in yesterday’s show, we spent time talking about him where, you know, you look at him and you just want to doubt the guy and he just proves doubters wrong repeatedly here. Look, he’s undersized, not a good shooter, and then his impact is just massive. He should be getting more votes every single year for six man of the year just based on onoff impact that when he is on the team is better. They win their minutes. And look, when you’re boiling down basketball to its simplest form, right, of what are we trying to do here? It’s win games, win your minutes. Jos Alvarado simply does that. That is insanely high praise, I think, when it comes to him. But look, this team is in a weird transition, period. I think trying to build around Zion, but also very much keeping an eye on the future with Jeremiah Fears and Derek Queen. And both those guys are going to come up in this conversation on all the tradable players. You got to keep that in mind that if you have Jeremiah Fears, you need to clear minutes for him. So, if Jos Alvarado is kind of on the depth chart ahead of him, you’re going to eventually need to move Jose Alvarado because you drafted Fierce seven overall to be that guy, whether you’re starter or, you know, first guard coming off the bench. That’s the point of drafting someone, right? is to play them and have them develop and become good. And if Jose’s kind of in the way, that might mean that Fears is going to take that role eventually. So, if you can get something good in return for Jose, you should go and do it. When you look at guys that have value on the team around the league, we’ll talk about Zion in this segment. He’s on this list. It’s not a ton of value though, right? You know, does some, you know, they’re not going to trade Trey. They’re not going to trade Herb, the guys who have the most value. and then other players just don’t have a ton of value on the franchise right now on the team. So, you may as well get what you can for guys, particularly if the season goes south and you end up having to kind of pivot pretty hard when you don’t have a first round pick next year, you’re going to need to acquire first round pick. So, if you can get one, even if it’s not a top five pick, you wouldn’t get that for Jose Alvarado, you should go and get that first round pick. I think that makes him the most, you know, likely to be traded on the team. We’ve also seen Joe Dumar’s basically wanting to turn like a lot of the roster over. And while I don’t think that, you know, really leads to Jose being forced out and being like, we want him gone because we want all new people. They extended Herb. They won’t don’t want to trade Herb. They don’t want to trade, you know, Trey Murphy. So, that is something to keep in mind a little bit when it comes to it as well. Next most likely to be traded in my opinion is Zion Williamson. And we’ve done a number of shows here about how they’re building around Zion Williamson. So, that seems to contradict a little bit, right? But depends on the circumstances. You know, if this team wants to compete, they they have to try and compete. They have to try and make the playoffs next year. You don’t have a first round pick as like fallback, right? You may as well try and be good. There’s no point in being bad. But say you are bad. Maybe it’s just the roster doesn’t work. Zion’s injured or someone’s injured. I think they’re going to look to try and move Zion just to see what you can get in return or then, you know, cut him in the offseason, wave him in the offseason. But say this team, he’s healthy and the team just isn’t going anywhere and just, you know, they’re they’re sub 500, five games under 500 around the trade deadline, not really in the running to even, you know, maybe you have an outside chance at the playin tournament, but you know that even if you get in there, you’re probably not going to get out of it and get into the postseason. It’s just like a mess of a season, right? They’re just bad. Even when kind of healthy, they’re just bad. They’re going to look to trade Zion. That’s when you do the pivot of if he’s been healthy and playing well, but the team’s not winning, there will be franchises interested in trading for him. And I think they’re going to look to get what they can. You know, I think you could call this upcoming season successful if you’re able to rehab Zion Weapon’s trade value and just move him for something more than, you know, pennies on the dollar. Maybe it’s 50 cents on the dollar. But are you actually going to get better value, better offer than that? It might be no. I think they’re going to look to do that. That’s, you know, if they’re winning games, they’re not going to look to trade him. But if they are struggling, it’s just like, “Yeah, this ain’t working.” You’re going to need to have a lot of turnover on the roster and probably go through a minor rebuild, then you’re going to need picks for that. You need to get picks for that. That’s where moving Zion Williamson comes into play there. And then look, it opens up a spot for Derrick Queen. You know, if you trade Zion, even if you don’t have your pick next year, you can still go with the youth movement of Derrick Queen, Jeremiah Fears, and just throw him into the fire and see what they’re capable of doing. doesn’t help you tanking because you don’t own your pick. But give those guys tons of minutes, tons of experience, and see what they can do and let them figure things out and hopefully grow quicker than they would otherwise. Final name on this list, Deontay Murray. You know, I don’t think it’s easy to trade him. I would assume he is considered negative value right now with that injury and then, you know, not having a great season last year. And certainly I think you know his not reputation but like value has taken a hit since the Atlanta you know era for him those two years that just didn’t go maybe in the way that you know he truly wanted it to go and I think his kind of you know around the league the perception of him has dropped from what it was before and with that injury it’s going to be tough too but if the Pelicans just decide to like really go full send like we are going for it right like Leroy Jenkins if you get that reference the the season Right? Like if you do that, trade him, trade future picks to get somebody, whether it’s a deal with the Jazz, another rebuilding team. You could do that. Get a good player. Have no of your own draft picks going forward, but do it and just go full send when it comes to this sort of thing. I think he could get moved in a situation like that. But Dejonte Murray definitely seems like the type of player, type of guy that Joe Dumar likes. So, I think that’s going to end up being very unlikely in my opinion. But I could see a world where they just are like, you know what, we’re going all in. It might be misguided. I couldn’t tell you just yet, but I can see a world where they do that. Look, just based off the aggressive moves they’ve made so far, Joe Dumar said this team is going to be aggressive. So, if he needs to trade future first round picks away along with Deonte Murray, he’s going to do that if he thinks it’s going to make the team better. We’ll see if it would or not. I don’t I don’t think that’s likely. I think of the three I’ve I’ve listed here, he’s the most unlikely to be traded just due to the injury and people are going to be tentative to take or hesitant, sorry, to take that on, but I can see a world where they just they kind of yolo it to a certain degree and it’s like we’re going on in. Could be, look, might be chaotic, could be fun at the very least, right? I like teams trying to win. There is something to be said for that. Tanking last year sucked. Sucked. There’s nothing fun about that. I don’t want to see team the team I cover losing the team I root for losing. So maybe they go for that and you know I can kind of see the logic behind it especially if you have a healthy Zion Williamson with you. So coming up next Kendrick Perkins said nice things about New Orleans and the Pelicans. Let’s talk about that. That’s coming up here next in today’s episode of Locked on Pelicans. Part of the Lockdown Podcast Network, your team every day. All right, let’s get into Kendrick Perkins saying good things about this Pelicans team. What like what world are we living in where that is kind of the case? He’s famously kind of come at this team for a while. Like he he despises Dell Dempse. Hates Dell Dempse probably more than any former general manager Dell Dempse than like anybody in existence. He said that he said very negative things about Dell Dempse. He’s like I would say that to Dell’s face. He does not, you know, despite playing here and not being great, he does not, you know, like this franchise at times, he feels actually Delumps cost him a title, which I thought was kind of interesting. At least one in a sense. So for him to say nice things about New Orleans, I think is kind of shocking, but it goes beyond just the clip that’s being shared by Pelican’s film room at Pel’s Film Room on Twitter here. And Kendrick Perkins says, quote, I barked up that, you know, it was on reference to the rumors from Bill Simmons and stuff. Quote, I barked up that tree before and it was a snake on my part. The fan base got on my heels like a pair of church socks. I was wrong. The fan base is pretty damn good. They’re just waiting for the Pelicans to do something. End quote. There was more that he talked about, right? He talked about he thinks Derrick Queen’s going to be really good. He thinks the Pelicans have a very good shot at getting into the postseason through the playin tournament. believes in this team a good bit and thinks they’re going to be a surprise very similar to the Detroit Pistons last year. Look, I I would take that in a second, right? Like we I I would take that type of situation in an absolute second here with what you know where this team kind of is. So I think that would be great. So, it’s nice to see that if you know that Kendrick Perkins sees that maybe you don’t, you know, love the, you know, him saying good things because maybe you don’t think he’s a good analyst or something like that. We’re not going to get into that. He believes in the team. It’s nice to see that there are some national media believing into the team. I’m more interested in his quote of, you know, the fan base is just waiting for the Pelicans to do something, right? Look, New Orleans is a fun city. There’s a lot going on. You know, it doesn’t have tons and tons of people like living downtown. It’s not right now postcoid, you know, right around the Smoothie King Center. Number of people do, but you have a lot of people coming from me, from uptown, from New Orleans East, from Shaw Met, from the West Bank, and all of that. Could be a bit of a pain to get down there, right? You’re not going to go if the team’s not good. Look, I I don’t think any sports franchise deserves unconditional love from their fan base. They’ve they’ve got to show up. You know, the team needs to show up, too. There’s expectations there and Kendrick Perkins hits it, right? The reason this team has, and I don’t even want to say like this, right? This team has not struggled with the fan base or anything like that in New Orleans. The team at times through its whole history here has not shown up in the way they need to show up for this fan base. We talked about it yesterday talking about Baron Davis and one of the reasons why I put him on the Mount Rushmore aside from kind of being the OG guy for this team was they made the playoffs backtoback years. They’ve done that twice in franchise history. Just twice have they made the actual playoffs in back-toback years. To do that is pretty important right now. You know, maybe in 10 years from now, if we re-evaluate the kind of Mount Rushmore for this franchise, you wouldn’t put Baron Davis on it. But right now, you kind of be the best player on a team that goes to the playoffs backtoback years. I I’m on board with it because you don’t have that kind of success here. And we’ve seen that when this team is good, we’ll talk about David West, right? The the the golden era of Pelicans, not Pelicans, but like New Orleans NBA franchise basketball. The people show up, right? those 0708 teams, you know, that that year, that place, the Smoothie King Center, you know, the New Orleans Arena at the time was freaking loud. You heard Tim Duncan and other players say like, “That’s an intimidating place to play.” That’s because of the fan base. The fan base shows up when the team is good. Couple years ago when they were about to sweep the Portland Trailblazers out of the first round, the Pelicans, and I love this, I still have a screenshot of it, had to send an email out saying like, “Don’t actually bring brooms into the Smoothie King Center because they’re not allowed and we don’t want to you to throw them out.” And when I went there to cover it, you could see brooms in a trash can, like right outside the Smoothie King Center because people wanted to do because they were so into it. You know, when they made the playoffs against the Warriors, I’ve thrown wa hosted watch parties that the owners of the bar couldn’t get back into the bar after they left for a few minutes because there were so many people there. This fan base shows up when the team is good. We did a couple watch parties that year. There was one very memorable night in a late game two against the Golden State Warriors. Um, if if you were there, put it in the comments down below. I want to know if who who knows about this. I’m kind of curious. Um, y’all had my back. That was pretty cool. I had I had it covered though if you were there. If you if you know, you know. So, this this city shows up for the team when the team delivers on that. And look, even in the season after they deliver, when they fall on their faces, because that’s how it’s largely gone, the fan base shows up for a long time and then it’s like, okay, yeah, no, this ain’t going to happen. So, you, this fan base is here, right? you know, JJ Reick with that comment of the Pel, you know, there’s 12 fans and then it kind of spawned the name the Pel’s 12 that Pel 12 has driven, you know, that community group re and all of them and the others that are kind of the founders of that group really led a lot of communitydriven things. This year was a little hectic for me and look, they weren’t good, but those going to the watch parties at Mid City Yach Club and just hanging out with everyone when that place would be packed with 100 plus people just on on a Tuesday to watch a game was so much fun. this city shows up for the Pelicans when the team is worthy of being shown up for. And again, they haven’t done enough. There’s no titles there to hang your hat on or lean back on or very good strong franchise history to like kind of use as a buffer in the bad years. So, when they’re bad, when they’re terrible, yeah, people don’t show up. But, you know, with that 12 comment, right, people showed up. It kind of was a galvanizing moment for the fan base when Kendrick Perkins has gone out of pocket and said those things. Everyone came at him, right? Same thing with Bill Simmons the other day. And by the way, talk to some people around the team. Under no circumstances is I’ll be very clear with this one. Under no circumstances is Gail Benson selling the team. That is like absolutely made it very clear to me from talking with folks about that, right? Those are just unsubstantiated rumors because Gail Benson also knows that when a winner is here, people are going to show up and it’s going to be an incredible atmosphere that doesn’t really get replicated anywhere else in the NBA. And look, Perkins realized this cuz he caught the bad brunt of it, right? And he even actually praised New Orleans as a city, which I thought was really great, too. This was over at the road tripping podcast. Um, and his can his Perkins unplugged. I like that. This was good. Good to see. Good on Kendrick Perkins for doing like the correct thing here. And it’s not someone I thought would be saying incredible things about New Orleans, but he kind of gets it. He gets the fan base and I dig that about him. Coming up next, let’s add David West to the Mount Rushmore of this franchise. I’ll tell you why. It’s kind of obvious. Let’s get into it. That’s coming up here next in today’s episode of Locked On Pelicans. And thank you for making Locked on Pelicans your first listen today and every day. Part of the Locked On podcast. Network your team every day. Make him your second listen today. also like very good friend of mine. David West is added to the Pelicans Mount Rushmore here. Eight years with the team, 530 games played, 16.4 points per game, 7.3 rebounds. He got to the line. Where did the number go? Almost four times per game, and shot at an 84% rate. Just a great player. Two-time all-star in 07, 08, and 0809 as well, where he averaged 20.6 points per game and then 21 points per game. you know, his career in New Orleans ended unfortunately in the middle of the season against the Jazz with ACL, I think it was, um, in that game, which was a crazy double overtime win. That was a crazy game with Omega Oka 4 and some stuff in there, too. But look, this is one of the pillars of the best era in franchise history. And that team in 0708 that went as deep as they could and won 56 games a franchise record, you know, he he you have to put him on here. You know, when when you talk about like all-star games in the NBA, usually like the best team in the league gets two guys. This is kind of like the best era of franchise history gets two guys and Chris Paul and David West. And look, Chris Paul was the best player, but David West was also a cornerstone of that team and arguably the heart and soul of the New Orleans Hornets during their most successful stretch in franchise history, right? And him having that just absolutely devastating, unstoppable at times, pick and pop with Chris Paul that made it so tough on defense is that little just pick and pop move hitting him in the mid-range game when that was the thing like was just money when it comes to that. He was reliable, unselfish, and tough. Tough dude, right? Basically like the emotional backbone of that team that was kind of setting the tone as a leader every single night. He was one of the best guys in mid-range, 15 to 20 feet. That was automatic for David West during that stretch. But he was also a pretty good postcore as well. Could bang down low with a a sneaky good, you know, kind number of moves there, too. You know what I love about him was he was doing it efficiently and consistently every single year. You knew what you were going to get out of David West. And when you look at their division at the time, Tim Duncan, right, you also had Dirk Noitzky in that conference as well. Zebo with the with the um Memphis Grizzlies, like he was just as reliable as it got and battled with like all-time greats in Tim Duncan and Dirk, right? Zebo is a fun player, but that’s not an all-time great level player. But David West, maybe not as good as those guys, right? Was absolutely, you know, right in that mix and fighting with them in a way that very few other players could, right? Eight seasons with the team. Also, that longevity I think is really important. And this is someone who just never publicly complained about a single thing. A single thing. Look, when the time was done and the team was clearly about to go through a rebuild and there was issues with ownership and all of that stuff, right, being bought by the, you know, being sold to the NBA because George Shin was basically insolvent. You didn’t hear him complain. He just quietly left and went to the Indiana Pacers. You know, it’s like, we understand it’s time. You know, this era is gone after the Tyson Chandler trades and things like that, right? All of that makes tons of sense to me for why he wanted out and I don’t really, you know, fault him for it. The rosters were at times inconsistent. Ownership was cheap and he didn’t say a word, right? Like this is a professional dude. I am so happy that he ended up getting two rings with the Golden State Warriors. But being that, you know, vocal leader on the court, that toughness that that team had as well, and just being super wellresected, I guess, across the league, like I love that sort of thing, right? like this is the type of guy you wanted in a small market to kind of lead your franchise here. And again, you know, being part of the, you know, biggest era of the team’s history, he’s top five in games played, points, rebounds, and minutes. He’s a two-time all-star, so he wasn’t just, you know, along for the ride with Chris Paul. This is someone who just kind of brought it nightly and was just such a fun player. And look, does is Chris Paul’s career as successful if he doesn’t have a guy like David West to form that pick and pop combo, right? His impact here is a deep thing in New Orleans, I think. And that’s why I’m putting him on the Mount Rushmore of New Orleans basketball. Just kind of, you know, it’s be all these guys, their their impacts goes beyond just the onc court stuff. It’s the off-c court stuff, too, that I think is really important here in this city and is going to make our conversation tomorrow kind of interesting. Right. I’m torn. The other name to put on here is Anthony Davis, and I am completely torn if we should do that or not. And we’re gonna talk about that in tomorrow’s episode of Locked On Pelicans because of the way it ended and all of that. And was he ever as deeply committed here as some of the other guys. And that commitment is an important part of it to me, I think. And David West had that. So, he’s definitely on the Mount Rushmore. Where would you put him on? Do you think it would be a crime to leave him off? Let me know in the comments down below on YouTube. So, more on Mount Rushmore tomorrow. I’ve got a couple of other things planned for the show as well that I want to look at. Who do you think is most likely to be traded? Is it Jose Alvarado, Zimson, Murray? Is there another name in there? Look, Hawkins, I think, could get thrown into that mix as well. Certainly depending on, you know, where they go in certain directions with this team, though, they kind of need the shooting. I think when you look at some of the guys on here, others are going to be kind of safe. They’re not going to trade Jordan P, right? I think Sadique Bay, there’s not going to be much of a market for him coming off of the injury, but we’ll we’ll probably look at him in tomorrow’s show as well. So, we’ll see. So, we got a lot to cover. We’re five days a week still here in the offseason. No slowing down. This has been the Lockdown Pelicans podcast, part of the Lockdown Podcast Network. your team every day. The NOLA NBA teams have for the most part been viewed as soft. When Paul and West were on the court the team fought hard. West was very good player and a guy no one was going to push around. A personal favorite for me. I would put him in the top four.

Lerooooy Jenkins reference! Just going for it! Lol. You're a trooper, Jake. A lot of resilience to make this many episodes coming up with new topics.
You are dead right about Jose'. I, too, like him a lot, but we can't let him get in the way of Fears (even though I'm not Fears' biggest fan by any means) like we let Jose' block DD. I truly believe that the only reason Dyson is not here today is Willie opting to go with GTA over DD. If Daniels was given the minutes here, the whole Murray trade would have been a 'no-go'.
AD on Pelicans Mount Rushmore is a 'no-brainer'. If he's not the most deserving, he's definitely the second most deserving to CP3.
Jake, you are the only one talking about trading Zion. No real superstar want to be in New Orleans. Stop it and just enjoy the ride!

I hope you are ŃOT going to put Davis on Mt Rushmore. I certainly would consider BI for the last spot. That's all folks!🙂
