Dodgers vs. Reds Game Highlights (7/29/25) | MLB Highlights

Dodgers looking for their first series win in Cincinnati since 2022 after they take the opener last night. Thought it was good to see the top of the order top four hitters and especially with runners in scoring position. The Reds looking to get right with their lefty on the mound. LA native facing the Dodgers for the first time in Nick Lollo. It’s Nick at night. Fun moment. Dave Roberts. Terry Francona staying there. Hello. The Maloo put on by Francona right before the game gets underway. Roberts moved Mookie Betts back into the leadoff spot nine days ago. Looking right three right at the top of the zone to lock up bets. That is some kind of location. Bets retired. Otani up double in two walks yesterday and scored his 100th run of the season before anybody else in the National League reached 80. Check swing. He went. No appeal needed. Well, that swing in itself should tell you how soon Otani gets started. Regardless of the pitcher on the mound, that pitch was nowhere close to the plate and he was already around before it arrived. So, two down and here’s Will Smith. Payoff pitch. Swing and a miss. He struck him out and Nick Ledo strikes out the side to open the ball game. I hope these folks like good pitching. 12 strikeouts against the Twins last week for Tyler Glass. Now here’s one away. Mlan right-handed batter, 221 hitter. His brother Shawn is in the Dodger system. Two gone. Fast ball blazes in there. That’s his first strike out of the night. Comes in a two seamer and Mlan watches it. Ellie de la Cruz the batter. Short stop switch hitter batting left-handed. Big right-handers payoff swung on and that is a softline drive to Mookie Betts near the second base back. He’ll make the catch and the side retired in order. Freddy Freeman starts the second for the Dodgers. No base runners in this game until now. First pitch of the second inning. Freeman turns it around and singles into center. On base streak for Freddy Freeman. Quietly has reached 15 games. And out to Oscar Hernandez. Two more hits. Two runs batted in in the first game of this series. Check swing. Did he go? Yes. Strike three. He went after the curve ball down. Yes, he did. That is four strikeouts already for Nick Looo. Now Andy Pahz, he was three for four last night. He has strikeouts for his first five outs here tonight. Good fast ball to Betts. Good one to Will Smith and another to Pahz in that situation. Tommy Edmund is up batting from the right side against the lefty. Lola drives the ball the other way. Freely going back on it towards the corner. This ball’s got a chance and it’s gone. Tommy Edmond opposite field power for a two-run blast. Sore ankle and all. Yeah. And in Great American Small Park, that’s what you envision when you come into this park is the ball flying out of here. First home run since the 19th of July against Milwaukee. 280. 10 homers, 41 driven in for Austin Hayes. He has hit safely in four of his last five games. And he went around on a curveball. Couldn’t hold up. And Hayes strikes out. Second strikeout for Glas now. And there’s one away in the second. So backto back full counts. Reds have two on for Noel Varte. Nothing in one pitch. Swung on. Ground ball to third. Edmonds got it. He goes to second. Rohas the turn on to first. He got it. And around the horn. Inning ending double play. No runs, no hits, one left. No Dodger errors after two full. It’s the Dodgers two. Reds nothing. And Ben is aboard. One out, one on for show Otani. Here it is. He struck him out. How about that fast ball right there? That got a lot of the plate, too. Here’s Will Smith. Runner goes pick off. Steer fire to McLean. tagged down to right. 134 on the pickoff of Mookie Bats. One down for the Dodgers in the fourth. Last time Freddy was up, he looked at the first pitch thrown to him and drove it on the ground up the middle for a base hit. Another 02 poke to left field and Freeman’s two for two against Looo. This is a beautiful two strike hit. Two outs for Bahz. Swings and it’s a high chopper to the hole. The short stop to hit Cruisers there. throws low and it’s not caught by Steer. Freeman advancing to third as Pahz is safe, but a low throw from deep in the hole by Dea Cruz. Not handled by Spencer Steer, the first baseman. And the Dodgers now with runners at the corners and two men out. We’ll see what Tommy Edmond can do. So far, he’s accounted for both runs with an opposite field home run. Foul tip of a heater. Strike three. Looo is punched out eight. The Reds have a one- out base runner. Freley had really started to heat up now. He’s gone hitless his last couple ball games. That’s in the air right field. A rocking ride by Freillley. No doubter over halfway up the sund deck to tie it at two. But the stuff drops off dramatically for Glast with a runner on base and Freley made him pay for it that time. That ball was in the air. No chance for a double play on that one. So this game is turned on a dime. That’s his first homer since coming back. Two men are gone in the fourth inning. Now Elby Marte hit into a double play. First of two that the Reds have hit into. Marte drives to right and the Reds lead. Just clears the Dodger pen. 32 Cincinnati. A couple of homers to right propel the Reds in front. Boy, that was a bullet. Pitch up and away from Marte. And he hit that like a left-handed bull hitter. A laser out of here to right field. So now two are on for Otani who has struck out twice against Lollo. Looo’s nine strikeouts have tied a season high. Strike him out. First time this year doubledigit punches for Nick Lollo. Well, this is the third time against Otani. He certainly is not picking up that ball very well at all. It’s two on, two out, and Will Smith. Pick off again. Gets by Mlan. Rojos just now pops up. Betts easily fills in at second. A bounce throw in second and third. 32 strike three called. Got him looking with a back door breaking ball. Froze will Smith 11 strikeouts for Nick Lollo. After the leadoff double by Trevinho, Glass now has walked backto back batters to end his night. Dave Roberts is on his way to the mound. It is Jack Dryer being summoned from the Dodger bullpen. Pitching change made in the bottom of the fifth with nobody out. He will get Da Cruz here with the bases loaded and nobody out. swinging a bouncing ball left side. Sliding stop. Edmond goes to second one. No chance to get Elliot first. Trevinho’s home from third and it’s four to2 Reds. That is a big league play at third base by Tommy Edmond. He saved at least one run by the nice sliding catch to his left. Swinging. There’s a soft tapper back to the pitcher. Catcher Smith waves off the pitcher Drier. No play. Everybody’s safe. Luck stays put at third base. It’s a big moment in this game. Reds have gotten one. Jack Dry is trying to keep the Dodgers within striking distance. Fly to right. Knocked deep. Hernandez moves over to the line. Lux tags won’t advance. Two gone. Wise the decision. That’ll be it for Jack Dryer. Ben Kasparius got ready in a hurry and he’ll come on for the right-handed batting. Spencer Steer. He’s a right-hander to get Spencer Steer with the bases loaded. Two outs. And the pitch swung on and miss. Strike three. Got him with a high fast ball and Kasparius comes in and pours water on the fire. One as Nick Looo returns to the mound. Doolo is punched out 11. One shy of his career high so far tonight. Bounce to first. Good glove by Steer. And it looks like that’s going to be all for Looo. 94 pitches, one out in the sixth. A clap from Franka. That’s all for the southpaw. The crowd lets him hear it. Nice warm ovation for Lola as he exits. One out, two on, tying runs aboard. When you wake up and you’re pitching against the Dodgers, this is the guy that you worry about. And he is at the plate with a chance to do some damage. 4-2 ball game. One out. Here’s the one, two, and a miss. He struck him out. Four punch outs tonight for Otani. Two down. Slider down and in. And Otani right over the top of it. That was wicked. And now Will Smith who does not have a three strikeout game all year. He’s already got 2Ks on his ledger. Flair into left. Lux is coming on. Plays it on a bounce and Conorto will score. 43 game. Will Smith with a two out hit to score Conorto. All three for the Dodgers tonight have come with two outs. And now Freddy Freeman who’s got two hits himself. Tying run at second in the form of Mookie Betts. Go ahead. Run at it first. Will Smith. Shot to left field. That is a base hit for Freddy Freeman. And the game is tied. Throw goes into third. Bet scores. Four to four. Third hit for Freddy tonight. First one up the middle. Second one was a pitch away. Drops into left field. This is a cutter in on the hands. Beautiful job. Ties this game. Two outs. A tie ball game. Starting the ninth inning. 44. Michael Conforto will leave it off. Lead it off rather. batting in the nine spot. Conforto takes ball four. Lead off walk. Go ahead run reaches to open the nine. Off of the bench and on base twice. James Alman is going to go out and run for him. So they’ll get some better speed on the base paths. So Outman will represent the go-ahead run here. One gone. Otani with a four strikeout game comes up to the plate. The two-2 swinging a fly ball right field. Going back is Joe. He’s there. He’s got it. Back to first base. Outman. Two down, Otanio for five tonight. And Will Smith, who drove in a run with a base hit in the seventh, comes up with two down. And Outman the go-ahead run on base. Drilled towards the left field corner. That’s headed for the wall. And it’s off it. James Outman’s on his horse, given the wave. Here he comes. He’ll score. Dodgers lead in the ninth. And it’s Will Smith again. Numbing consistency, numbing greatness. The Dodger catcher Will Smith puts him ahead in the nine. And that’s one of the reasons that Dave Roberts elected to have a little faster runner, that being Outman. Go from ahead to behind to ahead again with three in a row here in the late innings. It’s Alex Vessia who’s got three saves looking for his first one though since early June. Reds are down to their final out. That’s the ball game. Alex Vesio with a 1239. Five two out runs for the offense and five scoreless for the bullpen. Five to four the final score.

  1. Shohei has been carrying the team and had a 9 game hitting streak, in that stretch he hit 6 home runs in 7 games, he had one bad game and the hater trolls come out like rodents

  2. Shohei seems absolutely flummoxed by lefty pitchers with this arm angle. He’s struggled against Sale and Manaea in the past too.

  3. Dodgers are such an overpowered team everybody playing them has to do everything perfectly or you lose. That's why their will be a CBA and a lockout next year. No baseball. Everybody can thank the Dodgers.

  4. Ohtani strikes out too many obvious ball-strikeouts
Sure, when he hits it, it flies, but I don't think a triple crown (batting leadoff hitter) is possible in his career going forward as long as he continues to play two different styles of baseball. The proverb "He who chases two rabbits catches neither"

  5. Shohei`s last 8 games, 4 HRs but struck out 17 times. His batting average is well below .300 at around .275. Dodgers need Junetani in August and September to clinch their division.

  6. As someone who watches MLB because of Shohei, there have been multiple times when I didn’t understand why he was featured on the cover, and today is the most puzzling of all: 4 strikeouts and 0 hits. That’s really not a good way to attract viewers, and it feels unfair to other players who actually performed well.

  7. Wonder why DeLaCruz suddenly can't hit homeruns? Because multi billion dollar betting conglomerates control the league. Everything you love has always been controlled but you can't take your reality being broken so you will continue to be controlled. More children will be raped because of you supporting corrupt old man sports

  8. Great comback win for the Dodgers, but Shohei was tired carrying the team and had a bad game, but he's the only player that can makeup for his strikout by pitching and putting up Ks on the mound, probrably hit a home run and strikout 5 Red batters tommorow

  9. James outman is fast I hope he doesn’t get DFA he would make a potential World Series candidate if they pick him up no brainer hope dodgers keep him why is RUIZ getting more playing time does he have the edge over outman or potentially outman is locked ln as a keeper for a reserve

  10. Mlb needs to realize that even ohtani can have very bad days. This is a bad look having him in the thumbnail, and insulting to other dodgers players. But worst of all, people may get "tired" of ohtani and judge him unfairly. Learn quickly, mlb

  11. I THINK ITS UNFAIR TO SHOW OHTANIS PERFORMANCE EVERYDAY, NEVER DONE THAT TO ANYONE ELSE. HES UNDER A MICROSCOPE AND HE SHOULDNT BE

  12. ドライヤーとカスペリアスがノーアウト満塁を1点で抑えた!

    これが1番大きかったな😮

  13. Don't you think every other team is going to order vid of this game to study the pitch type/location/sequence vs. Ohtani? And then do you think Ohtani will be studying it tonight/tomorrow, too? It'll be interesting to see what happens in the upcoming week.
