New York Yankees vs Tampa Bay Rays | Game Highlights (7/29/25)
Getting start for the Yankees. Max Freed. See, Max is going to be his 21st start, 22nd really on the year. Rounding out, the numbers are excellent. Only nine home runs given up. One, two, ground ball. A base hit through the right side. Ground ball up the middle. Pulpy. A bad flip to Chisum. And everybody’s safe. And he’s hearing it from the crowd. I mean, he’s there in plenty of time. Fields it well. He’s got a decision there to make. Split second. Do I try to cut down the runner there? Had plenty of time to do it. Just made the bad flip. Highfly ball left field. Dominguez back on the run on the track. Makes the play. Tagging is Diaz. He’ll go to third and tagging Aronda will go to second. And he got the strike out. That one is ripped into right center field. It is going to be a base hit. Splits the outfielders and goes to the wall. Two runners score. Duca is going for three and he is going to make it. It’s a two-run triple for Johnny Duca and it’s two nothing Rays and Low swings and misses. Two runs, two hits, one big error. Through the games of June, Anthony Baldby at 299 against four seam fast balls in July. 0 for 29. what what’s going on? The only thing you can think of is, you know, he would know maybe is there something physical. You know, we we know Anony’s played a lot. Plays every day. He seems to do well with rest here and there after the All-Star break. He get a little life in his body. One thing I would point to is the Yankees lack of a backup shortstop has forced him to play a lot. I know he wants to. [Music] Sort of the old Cal Ripken theory, right? He played every day because he thought he was gave him the best chance to win. But would you have been better off with a little rest here and there? Quality over quantity. And there’s the four seamer. So now he’s 0 for 30. He’s hearing booze from the crowd more and more lately. Boil strikes out three in the inning. Aronda leads off the third. swings at the first pitch and lofts it to right field. Going back, Bellinger on the track. Cia a home run for Aronda and it is three nothing Tampa Bay. Swing and a miss. Camaro down on strikes. And down goes Morell. Broken back. Ground ball to McMahon. And they get Duta for the final out. But the home run by Aronda gives Tampa Bay a three nothing lead. OPS leaders in the American League outfielders. Judge first. Buckton who just went on the IIL second. Cody Bellinger’s third. Trent Gisham is sixth. Driven out to right field and deep. Low back. Turning looking. See youa. A big three-run home run from Bellinger. And the Yankees have tied the game. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Just another reminder that it’s a marathon. Baseball is not a sprint. Fly ball right side. Bellinger puts it away and Freed comes back with a one, two, three and a base hit for Dominguez. Marter goes stolen base number 16. High five ball left field. Morell back tagging Dominguez. Catch is made on the track. Dominguez will go to third to make it. overslid the bag, but Camroero did not notice it. He drops a slider in there. That’s how far off he was. [Music] That one is looped into center field. It’s going to be in there for a base hit. Scoring is Dominguez. Bolton picks up an RBI single and the Yankees lead four to three [Applause] and that’s knocked down and it goes behind Cavayro and everybody will reach. We’ll see how they score it. Runners go the throw to third. It goes into left field. Bumpy will get up and he will score. 12 stays at second and the Yankees now lead five to three. Line drive. It’s a base hit to left. Different hitter against lefties. RBI single. Scoring is Wells. Yankees up 63. Diaz strikes out on the curve ball. going for another one, two, three inning and gets it. [Applause] Seven strikeouts, needs to retire nine in a row. Swing and a miss. Two-way. Broken bat, slow roller. McMahon charges, fields, fires, got him. Free has retired 12 in a row. Swing and a miss. Low down on strikes. Ninth strikeout for Max Free up the middle. Chisum two-way and he walked him. 14 straight retired before he walks Forez. And out comes Boom. Hasn’t signaled yet. [Applause] Max trying to lobby. I’m okay. I got this. Okay, let’s go. Love that. So does the crowd. Line into right center field. It is a base hit. It splits the outfielders and it goes to the wall. Forz is rounding third. But they’re going to wave him home and the throw is cut off. It’s a double by Walls. It’s an RBI and now the Yankee lead is 6 to4. Well, Freed wanted that that final out here in the seventh. Going a career high 111 pitches to get it. As David said, Boone wanted him to get it, but now he’s going to go to the bullpen. He’s going to get a nice handle. [Applause] Ground ball right at Gold Schmidt. He’ll take it first and that’ll do it here in the seventh. On one hop, Bulby makes a nice play and turns it into two. 643 as Aronda moves to third. Strike two as Vulpi was walking toward first thinking it was a walk. Highf fly ball center field and deep. Simpson back on the track at the wall. See youa a home run into the Yankee bullpen. His 15th of the year and the Yankees are up by three. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] 452 ft. Paul was absolutely hammered. There’s a base hit to right center field. Bellinger can’t get there. He’s going to roll all the way to the wall. Low round second and he is going to go to third. So leadoff triple for Josh Low and he walked him. So now that brings up the tying run. Tap slowly. McMahon goes to second. Gets the force there. Run will score. So it’s an RBI for Gray. It’s 75 Yankees. Squibbed again. There’s one. That’s all they’ll get. Ground it. Vulpi sets, fires, and it’s dropped. Gold dropped the throw and the Razer alive. A low throw by Bulpi. Could not come up with the scoop. And that’ll be another error. And Goldman’s been so good at these all year long. You can see there gets his legs under him and just a little short hop coming at you in the super shot. You get a good look at it here. Just a boy. A play you see Gold Tren make a lot. Now here’s a crowd holding his breath and the one two swing and a miss. Exhale. Yankees win 75. And they gain a game and a half in the American League East standings as the Blue Jays were swept and the Yankees have closed to within four [Music] [Applause] [Music]

I like volpe but I'm sorry he needs to go or improve his defense he is always making mistakes on easy plays and that's a big problem specially since the Yankees don't have that many good pitchers
I'm a huge volpe fan. He made mistakes in this game but he made up for it . That shows character. I still have faith that he comes out of this slump. Let's go Yankees. 🫶🫶👣👣
Volpe needs to go and so does Boone! We got the new player Rosario. We should use him over Volpe. I'm sure Rosario isn't a walking error machine like Volpe is!
Maybe volleyball is just tired, but his hitting his spot. Maybe sub him with peraza to rest him
Okay, bring up Lombard Jr. bring up Jones. Let's see what they got now.
The booing Volpe really woke him up fr!!! The bs ass errors got to stop cuz he is more capable than that. It’s insane that he hit a 452 ft bomb which I didn’t think he’d hit that far. And it was just oppo too which is very impressive!!!
Volpe needs to figure it out 🤦🏻‍♂️
Volpe has the yips or something. That or a shoulder injury they aren't talking about.
Jazz 3 strike outs, come on !!!
Not joking when I say this: Get Volpe a sports psychologist or hypnotherapist before it spirals completely out of control
KANTHONY “NOODLE ARM” VOLPE
Dang man I really want Volpe to relax have fun and get out of his own head.
Trade volpe!! Gabaggeeee player
Hey I was at that game in row 1!
'whats going on with volpe?"??? he's a bum, that's what's going on!!!!!
This team will never win as long as hal steinbrenner is the owner and the moronic fans keep buying the product.
In need of a first baseman long term and passed on Harper in favor of Stanton who we all knew was injury prone.
Needed a shortstop and a 3rd baseman and passed up to historic shortstop free agent classes in favor of Volpe and Peraza.
Needed a catcher and wasted draft picks on crap.
Still have yet to find a lockdown closer.
Hal is the problem.
I love Anthony vope I don't get why anyone loves him
Just wait for Goldschmidt to start seeing the ball against righties…
A tale of 2 Volpe-'s
Like jekyll and Hyde
Also Fried had 2 sides.
anyway Yanks win and Cody is filling Judge's shoes
LGY!
Thx Dan. Let's get 40 more before October
we need a new shortstop. this is ridiculous.
"Goldschmidt dropped the ball" No, Volpe made ANOTHER awful throw on a routine ground ball. Don't blame Goldschmidt for that. An infielder should never depend on their first baseman to scoop a bad throw. Make a better throw. Period.
Come on Volpe…. Come on… GO Yankees🎉
Trade Volpe
another 3 errors for volpe.. sit the kid already.
CODY PLAYING LIVE A STUD
Thanks for keeping Cones comments, Dan
Volpe will be just fine! He’s young, fatigue is a factor, and he’s playing JETER’S spot that’s a lot of pressure
Was Boone glaring at Volpe after the final out? If so, the kid is done! If a manager shows that much disgust and frustration and quite honestly, disrespect, it’s gonna be hard to get past that!
10:25 Boone does not look thrilled, even though they won.
