Highlights from ALL games on 7/29! (Brewers and Padres both win AGAIN, and MORE!)
The Reds have a one out base runner. A rock and ride by Freillley. No doubter. Over halfway up the sund deck to tie it at two. This game is turned on a dime. Marte drives to right and the Reds lead. A couple of homers to right propel the Reds in front. Nick Liddo a strong season high 11 strikeouts, one off his careerhigh taming the Dodgers to two runs. So things are getting very interesting. Freddy Freeman up now and Freddy lines it to left field. That’s going to get down. Here comes Bets around third. He’ll tie the game and Freddy Freeman with a game time single with two outs in the top of the seven. That’s just clutch. Dodgers battle back from down four to two. And Will Smith comes up with two down towards the left field corner. That’s headed for the wall and it’s off it. James Elman’s on his horse. He’ll score. Dodgers lead in the ninth and it’s Will Smith again. Numbing consistency, numbing greatness. Can the Brewers take advantage? Vaughn ground ball up the middle base hit. How about the attack mode first pitch for the Brewers in this inning? Here’s now Vaughn and a drive left center and deep. V. And we’re here. The legend of Andrew Vaughn keeps growing. A grand slam. You have got to be kidding me. Here’s Jackson Merrill. Chopped over the head. A fair ball of Alonzo at first. Down the right field line. Here comes the throw. Playwood. It’s offline. Padres’s take a two-1 lead. Standing at third base is Jackson Merrill. Padres’s back on top. First and second, two down in the end of deep left field. Man, oh man. Oh, Manny. A threerun exclamation point home run for Manny Machado. His 20th of the year. And the Padre lead is now 7 to one. Traded to Atlanta just a couple of days ago. And now he plugs into the Braves rotation. Hooking it stays fair and the Royals lead one- nothing in the bottom of the first. Second home run of the inning for the Braves. And the Braves scored three runs in the top of the sixth to cut the Royals lead to one. And the Royals are trying to punch right back. Isbel slices it into left center field. That’s a base hit. The three-run double and the Royals lead seven to three in the bottom of the sixth. Now Vinnie Pasquentino bats deep in the air right center field. Akuna sprints over, reaches out, can’t make the catch and one hops the wall. Bobby W Jr. scores. Vinnie passentino drives him in and Eli White is going out there to replace Ronald Akuna. Akuna clearly not happy but also clearly not 100% out there trying to chase down those last two fly balls and he is leaving here and we’ll just have to hold our breath and hope for the best. The Royals have scored five runs in this inning and have broken the game wide open. Two outs there and the Yankees home third. And here’s Cody Bellinger driven out to right field and deep low back. Cody looking. See youa. Three-run homer. Cody Bellinger. New ball game at 33. But Cody home run number 20. Takes his RBI total to 61. How great has this guy been? That one is looped into center field. It’s going to be in there for a base hit. By picks up an RBI single and the Yankees lead four to three. Really good piece of hitting. See youa. A home run into the Yankee bullpen. His 15th of the year. And the Yankees are up by three. Well, as I said, that’s how you turn those blues to cheers in a hurry. The man on second with nobody out. Schwarber blasts it high and deep right field. Forget about it. Whoa, that one’s gone with an absolute bomb to right field. It’s his 37th of the season and it’s four to nothing Phillies. So, it has been Jesus Lazardo’s night. Seven innings of two hit baseball, no runs on four strikeouts with only one walk. And I think the key was the one walk. The stuff tonight was very good. Right center field. Beerling is back. He’s still going. And he juggles it and tips it and got it to himself. Matt Verling. A one-man show for out number one. Racing onto the track. He made the catch. He hit the wall. The ball popped out and somehow Matt Verling got it before it hit the ground. What a catch by Matt Verling. And of course you saw Bran Herder’s reaction. Swinging the fly ball right field deep. Got a chance. Gone. Third home run of the inning for Detroit. They have put up a five spot. All these balls in the same area too. Seems to be a speedway out to the right field bleachers. Way out of here. It’s 7 to2 Detroit. And now O’Neal will bat. He’s at the wall and that baby’s gone. And Tyler O’Neal has homered for a careerhigh fourth consecutive game. One-1 pitch and the next at bat to center and gone. Back to back of the Orioles way back there and that baby’s gone. And if this wasn’t officially a laugher, it is now. Home run derby in Baltimore. They are pouring it on. The Orioles have tied the major league record since it was tracked in 1954 with five sacrifice flies in one game. How to win a ball game. And when you get a runner at third base, less than two out, you’d love to get a base hit. Everybody wants to get a base hit, but your main objective is to figure out a way to get that run home. Between games, the Blue Jays acquiring Sir Anthony Dominguez from the Orioles, which meant all he had to do was walk from the first base clubhouse to the third base clubhouse. Sir Anthony Dominguez out of the Toronto bullpen on the Orioles active roster for game one. A member of the Blue Jays active roster for game two. And it’s a good first inning as a Blue Jay for Sir Anthony Dominguez. Go ahead run at second for Bradley Rutman. Back to the wall. Lucas jumps. Did not make the catch. Balls on the ground at his feet. Here comes Gutter. He will score and the Orioles take the lead. Manzardo rocks one deep right center field. Going, going, gone. Five nothing Guardians. Home run number 17 for Kyle Manardo. It’s a long way back and it is gone. A home run. Kyle Manardo with his second dinger of the night. That makes it 10-1 Guardians of Ryu to center it and deep sending Bader back. Bader to the wall. Shuts up. He got it. Harrison Bader caught that ball. Harrison Bader robbing a home run of Willie Abrau. Incredible defense all season long from Bader in left and center and took one away from Abrau here. Swinging a highf fly ball left center field deep to the warning trick. Leaping up. He can’t get this one. And Trevor Story goes downtown. Man, did he need that. His 16th of the year. And the Red Sox bolster the lead to four to nothing. Out to right center. Watch this one fly. That is way back there. It is gone. Durant just spanked it. His 10th home run of the year. That caught the facade out there. Over to his right is Walner. He can’t get it. It’s an RBI double for Trevor Story. Huge insurance. And it’s 73 Red Sox. Now Paulie left hand hitting third baseman and gone. Paulie with his first as a Miami Marlin. And it really does finally feel like Alcantra starting to put it all together here. This is it for Sandy Alcantra. It’s one hell of a way to go out. Nelly Giner Diaz singled his last time up. Carrying towards the bullpen and it’s gone and the game’s tied up at two. Christian Walker bats with the base is loaded. He has a base hit. Here comes Trel. He’s going to score. Talked about doing the small things and that’s what the Astros are doing all through this lineup. And he does indeed hit one out to tie the game at one. It’s his first this year with the Pirates. Leo Ver Pagarero. Eyeball shallow right. Reynolds coming on. Reynolds. A diving grab. What a play by Brian Reynolds laying out. Wow. I didn’t think he had a shot at that. I didn’t think it was going to be close. Joey Bart comes to the plate. Ground ball base hit for Joey Bart. Gonzalez scores and the Pirates lead it two to one. That’s big. Here’s a one-two pitch. Bomb to left field. Forget about it. Just looking up as a Rosarena. It is gone. And it’s a three nothing A’s lead. Randy A. Rosarena with his fifth consecutive 2020 season. What a feat. A Rosarena hoist that bag. A Rosarena will turn and watch it fly out of the ballpark. And Langelers is red hot with the long ball and the A’s take a five to one lead. Four homers in his last five games. Showell who’s walked twice so far. Still going back onto the track. He leaps and he made the catch. He did. Adoleis Garcia robs Nolan Showell of a home run. He’s going to go to the bullpen. Next pitch. That’s a ground ball up the middle. Base hit. Here comes Aashio around third. Smith stops at third. Now they’re going to send him. Here comes a throw and he’s safe. And just like that, the Halos are down four to three. And a looping lighter left center. Langford got a good job. He can’t get it. It bounces by him. The run scores. Fell in front of it. Almost made an outstanding play. That old line toward the left and Hagerty fell out. It gets by him. It bounces all the way to the wall. What else can go wrong here? Where are the Angels in the outfield? They’re everywhere. For more on these and other stories, keep it locked to mlb.com. It’s baseball everywhere.
