MLB LIVE🔴 New York Yankees vs Tampa Bay Rays – Jul 29, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
just a little bit away from first pitch and today’s starter Luke Weaver. And Singi, we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. I’ve just been so impressed with when it seems like there’s more pressure, he’s more calm and settles in. He’s done an incredible job with runners in scoring position. Most guys, they get a little tight, they start to aim the baseball, but for some reason he gets looser. The ball comes out of his hand with more life, and he’s able to wiggle off the hook of, you know, tough situations and get his team back in the dugout. Close, but called the ball and the count is 2 and 0. and he lays down a bunt. PZA sends it to first. One up, one down. And let’s take a look at the lineup. A guy who’s been huge for them over the last month plus, Jonathan. Well, Boo, there aren’t many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does. I mean, batting over 400 with runners in scoring position. Are you kidding me? I I know it’s not guaranteed or an automatic, but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not. Yandi Diaz the next to hit takes ball one. One out. Base is empty. That one down the line. Jump throw on the money. Nice play. Batting third. The first baseman, Jonathan Aranda. Two down, base is empty. Next to hit, Jonathan Aranda. Right through there for a strike. Two outs. That misses and it’s one and one. Come on, Luke. And he grounds one to the right side. Oh, great grab on the dive. And that’s a great play for the out. That was a great job of doing the math. He had the perfect angle. Diving stop completes the play and that ends the inning. back in New York and today’s starting pitcher, Zack Latell. And Chris, pitching on the road has not been particularly kind to him. Yeah. And you don’t want to be too quick to say that he can’t pitch on the road. Sometimes, you know, it’s just a matter of luck. It’s not having a feel difference between the bullpin mound to the mound out there on the playing field. Don’t know what it is, but I know this. He’s got good enough stuff to overcome and get it done on the road as well as at home. So, we’ll see what he’s able to do in this one. And a foul ball. Pretty good pitch there to take a rip at. He wants to get his arms extended. He likes the ball away from him a little bit. Just not able to square it up. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. And that one missing inside. A sharp slider. And now two and two. Oh, that got away from him. And he’s going to reach on a hit by pitch to lead off the inning. Aaron Judge a season it’s been for him. He has supplied a lot of power and that average. That’s in there. And that is strike one. Come on. Line drive and it stays fair. Throw comes in. Runner stopped. Second and third. Nobody out. And Aaron Judge cruising into second. and he’s got a double. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands, you let the ball travel, and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. And up to the plate comes Cody Bellinger. Breaking ball through there for a strike. Gisham on third. Judge stands at second. No acts and fouled off. Cuts and misses. It’s a strikeout. First strike out for him in this one. And that splitter is maybe the go-to pitch when he’s looking for a swing and miss like that. He throws it quite a bit and that’s a good example of the effect it can have on a hitter. John Carlos Stanton to the plate now. Golden opportunity right here and misses inside. This hitter loves attacking the first pitch. So not giving him something to hit is a good move. swings through that one for strike one. Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good. And then by the time he gets in the hitting zone, hard to get the barrel to it. Second and third here. One away. fights that one away. Still one and two up the middle. Gloves it on the dive. Throws from his knees. Run scores, but a terrific play to get the out. Well, you can see right there he looks very comfortable going to the backhand. Nice diving stop. Gets up to complete the play. That’ll fire the team up for sure. Jazz Chisum Jr. Now I’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound. This guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year. and takes low from ball one. Check swing. No appeal. Two outs and one in scoring position. Not even close there. Ball three. Good pitchers make pitches in big situations. And right here with a middle of the order hitter up, runner in scoring position, he’s got to find a way to throw a quality strike. Three down. And there’s a breaking ball that drops in there. Just doesn’t seem to want to throw him a fast ball. Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. Two outs with a runner at third. battling here as he fouls it away. Swinging a foul ball at the plate. They’ll do it again. Spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another. also really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. Gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches. Gets a piece and stays alive and ball for two aboard. I don’t think he really wanted to pitch to him right there anyhow. Two outs with runners on the corners. Paul Goldmith stepping in now for the Yankees in there at the knees for a strike. At this point, the clean inning is over. Got to settle in, focus on the hitter, and get out of it with minimal damage. Two on, two outs. just missed. Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. The 2-1 swinging a foul out of play. It’s great to get on the board in the first frame of the ball game, but here’s an opportunity for them to really open things up with a couple of runners on. Let’s see if they can cash in. Runners at the corners with two outs. Still two and two after the foul ball. caught him looking for the K. Two men left stranded, but they do push across one. We head to the second from the big ballpark in the Bronx. Yankees won. The Rays nothing. Top of the second now up for Tampa Bay. Junior Camroero Chris. He’s definitely going to finish the year with a new careerhigh in homers. We just don’t know how many he’s going to hit quite yet. Let’s go. Weaver back to work and the first pitch misses for ball one. And another ball. Way to lay off that fast ball up right there. You’re looking for something you see well that you can handle, but you also have to keep the discipline so that you’re not popping up pitches that are just a little too high. That one misses and now three and0. And there’s the automatic. turned on, but that’s foul down the third baseline. Strike him out. Gets under and pops it up. Chisum and there’s one away. That is fifth. The right fielder number 15, Josh Low. Josh Low, the next to hit. Taken high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect label over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point, that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. That one’s in there. That’s strike one. Come on, let’s go. That finds the mark on the inside corner. That’s a real nice cutter right there. I mean, this guy can struggle with the inside pitch at times. So, I’d say that’s pretty effective if you can continue to command it on that side of the plate. Swing and a miss. Strike him out. Pulled the string on the change up. Well, he made pretty quick work of him right there. You look at the sequence, everything down at the knees and below. And some guys are good low ball hitters, but right there, they clearly had a plan to pound that part of the zone, and he wasn’t able to put up much of a fight. Christopher Morell will hit next. Let’s go Yankees. A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. One strike. Two outs. Base is empty. That one ripped left field. Stanton ranges back. That’s a bomb. He flexes his power with that swing and it ties it up. hits 1-1. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. That was one of those home runs where you really don’t know if he got enough of it off the bat. I mean, he put a good swing on it clearly, but I wouldn’t say he really got the sweet spot on the bat. The exit velo impressive, but it had all it needed for him to circle the pillows. So, it’s all tied up thanks to the home run. Danny Chance to hit here. He was late there. Strike one. Ball game is still tied. They can get out of this inning with a tie game. Two down, base is empty, but one run across here in the top of the second. That one finds the zone. That’s strike two. This to third. Carza fires over to first and that’ll do it and the Rays get one on a solo shot. All even now at 1-1. Major League Baseball is on the show and welcome back to the ballpark. We head to the bottom of the second and stepping in for the Yankees, Austin Wells. New York. Come on. And a foul ball. And that one pulled foul. slides, but he can’t come up with it. I’d say a mistake pitch in an 02 count. Too good of a pitch to hit right there. You have to expand the zone. Keep that lead off man off first base. And the batter will be the shorts stop Anthony Vulpi. And that’s in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Come on. And the righty deals check swing. He held up and the count even one and one strike. Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. Tied up here in the early going. Got him. And he’s registered. Three Ks in this one. Well, when you throw the same pitch back to back, that’s how you want to do it. Set him up in the strike zone, then extend a little bit from there and see if you can get him to chase. Nicely done with the slider right there. Here’s the third baseman, Oswald PZA. Right back to the mound. Could be an easy two. There’s one over to first. That’s two. Nicely done. 163. And that will end the inning. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. We head on now to the top of the third. All tied 1-1 here at New Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Stepping in as the switch hitting shortstop, Taylor Walls. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. And that’s ball one down the left field line. Looks like extra bases. Now he’ll turn for second and he’s there with a leadoff double. Really good swing right there. You got a pitch that he knew he could handle. Allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. So the go-ahehead run in scoring position. Here’s the second baseman, Jose Caviierro on the ground to third in the dirt. Nice pick. Great job from the first baseman to get a little dirty on the play for the catch. Just because it looked easy, that doesn’t mean it was Simpson. And now the center fielder. He’s 0 for one. There’s the strike. Let’s go. Swaging a ball hit out towards left center field and that’ll fall for a base hit. Throw into third. Throw pulls him off the bag and he’s saved. Well, that’s a smart decision to hold up with one out and the heart of the order coming up. Don’t want to run into an out at home plate. Yandi Diaz now ground ball left side. Could be two over to Jazz. There’s one. And that’s two. got the batter to hit it exactly where he wanted. That textbook 643 double play gets out of the jam and back in the dugout. Back at Yankee Stadium ready to go for the last half of the now. Here’s Trent Gisham. Gisham This one lifted in the air. Left field. Morell on the move. Nabs it. And there’s one away. The right fielder number 99. Now it’s Aaron Judge up to the plate. Double his first time up. And that one wrapped foul. Swinging a drive deep right field. Low drop step going back onto the track and he makes the catch. Now batting the designated hitter, Cody. Here comes Cody Bellinger. He was a strikeout victim his first time. Bellinger goes 6′ 3 in hitting third in the lineup and he’s usually in the outfield. Today he’s the DH. Just missed. Swang and a miss. one and one. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. He goes down looking. Yanks held in check. Still tied 1-1. Back to the Bronx. And here’s the first baseman, Jonathan. Oranda. Ball one, no strikes. He’s been pitching well, but we’ll see what kind of adjustment the hitters make this second time through the order. We’ll know if he’s got really good stuff in this one or not. Next offering misses and the countdown two nothing. And that one fouled off. Come on, New York. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. off the mark there. And that’s ball three. Fouled off. And they’ll do it again. Strike him out. 3-2. gripped in the air left field and a touchdown for a base hit. So, he battled through a long at bat and earned himself a hit. But when you see that many pitches in an at bat, your chances of succeeding go up. And right there, we see the result. Now, here’s the Tampa Bay cleanup hitter, Junior Camero. Fried out his first time. That clips a corner. and a strike. Getting a little frustrated with the strike zone. Aranda aboard here at first with nobody out. One ball, two straight. Swing a highf fly ball deep left field way back there into the second deck and gone. Kiss that ball goodbye. His 27th home run of the season and they add a pair. It’s 31. Well, the best home runs are the ones that give your team the lead. That’s a great feeling right there. That’s exactly the pitch he was looking for. Crushes it and hits it out of the ballpark. Josh Low getting ready to hit. He swings and fouls one off. Can be tough to bounce back after a big home run, but nobody on, nobody out. You just have to treat it as a fresh inning. Nobody out with a pair of runs across to the frame. Top half of inning number four. check swing and he went and the count is 0 and two. Breaking ball misses down and away. Action in the pen down there. Will Warren getting ready to go. Number 31 also throwing out towards right center. That’s well struck. That’s back there. Gone. They do it again. Backto back homers. his seventh home run of the season. And they add a run. It’s 4-1. That’s their third home run of the game. They’re having a lot of fun at the plate in this one. They’ve got the long ball working for them on autopilot. Backto back jacks. And this club is fired up right now, Boog. I mean, this is the kind of thing where you really start to notice hitters in a lineup feeding off each other. And the collective confidence just continues to grow. And here comes the Yankees manager to the mound. Pitching change coming. Luke Weaver won’t go any further. Got them some innings, but they didn’t come easy. New pitcher coming on. And we’ll be back after a quick break. Now pitching. They bring a young arm out of the bullpen in this spot. Number 31. This is his third time out this year. Christopher Morell next to hit for the Rays. He’s already homerred in this game. Swing and a chopper out to short. Fires over to first. That’s the first out in the top of the fourth. Now it’s Chance in the head. 0 for one. He grounded out in his first at bat. That’s a little high. Ball one. Next offering is fouled back. One down. Base is empty. That one missed. Two and one. Outside low. And that’s ball three. And that’s in there at the knees. Still only one out here in the inning. Keeps the bat going with a foul ball. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. He battled for a long time, but it finishes with a strike out. You can’t be mad at yourself after an at bat like that one. Just a great slider right there. And I think the key for pitchers and what hitters don’t want to see is if a pitcher misses with that pitch that he misses off the edge of the strike zone rather than in the middle of the strike zone. And right there, excellent execution and it finished up in a perfect spot. Two down. And that is out of play. Out to short Vulpi. Third out. That ends the frame. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. It’s now 4-1. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. ready to go. Bottom four. And now it’s John Carlos. John Carloson. That one inside. And that’s ball one. You know, these Yankees doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of him. He’s only giving up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there. And that might be the best news yet for this offense. That’s out the corner. Next offering is in for a strike. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. Swinging a ground ball and foul ball. And it stays fair. Now batting first. Now it’s the second baseman Jazz Chisum Jr. in there at the knees. Go 0 and one. No. One strike. Here we go. That one ripped. Going back. Pulls it in on the warning track. Now batting first baseman Paul Goldmith. Here is Goldmith. His first at bat was a strike out. That one’s in there. Strike one. Good approach right there. You want to get something just a little higher that you can elevate. Stay out of that double play. Oh, and two now as he swings through it. Generally second, third time through the lineup, you want to be able to lean on those secondary pitches and command them. Looks like he’s doing a nice job of it. Got him swinging. He picks up his fifth strike out on the hill. That’s about as nasty of a splitter as you’ll come across, especially in terms of movement. I mean, that thing tumbles out of his hand and just drops off the table at the last moment. If he keeps it down, it’s just so tough to put wood on. Wells in the box now. No balls in a strike. Stanton off of first with two away. They say you win. Oh, two. Let’s go Yankees. Two outs. Not close with that one. Now one and two. stays alive. The Rays leading by three. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Just misses with that one. Really good take, especially with two strikes. in the air. Foul off first. Drops into the glove. And that is that. The Yanks leave one. And this is still a 41 ball game. All set for the start of the inning. Here’s the second baseman, Jose Caviierro. Swing and a miss as he was late that time. Well, these Rays really impressing me with the quality of their bats in this one. It’s been fun getting a chance to see him go to work. It looked to me like they really wanted to get to the starter early, get him out of the game before he settles in. So, I’d say mission accomplished. Ah, that hit him. And the leadoff man is aboard to start the inning. Here’s the center fielder. One for two. Chandler Simpson. Move to first and he dives back in safely. Double and that one upstairs. Ball one. The kick and the pitch. Runner goes. Strike in there. Save at second. And that was not close. Runner in scoring position. Nobody out. And we’re in the top of the fifth. Check on the runner. Caviierro back on a dive. So a foul ball makes it one and two. Man at second and he handles it himself for the out. The batter number two, designated hitter Yandi Diaz. So digging in, Yandi Diaz, bowl for two in this one. Oh, one in the dirt to third. C got him. Well, you want to see guys aggressive out there on the base pass, but you also want to see them smart as well and making their decisions. And right there, couldn’t really tell how far away that ball was. So, if that’s the case, you got to shut it down. Gets caught stealing there, takes himself out of scoring position. Swing and a ball popped in the air and that’ll fall for a base hit. And that keeps the inning going. You know, I was watching his rounds during batting practice today. So impressed with his ability to let the ball travel, go back up the middle and the other way. Sometimes when you step in the box during the game, you get a little anxious and you get away from that. But so far, I’ve seen him stay consistent with his pregame preparation. At the plate, Jonathan Aranda. There’s a swing and a miss. 0 and one. Oh, he’s really working him away this at bat. Sometimes take a little bit off velocity. Try to get a roll over something on the ground. Stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield. The one-1 is fouled off. And they’ll do it again. That misses the zone and it’s two and two. You got this. Swing at a fly ball in the air out towards right center field. Touches down. That’s a hit. Now a relay to second. In there safely. Back to back base hits. Pretty much just a textbook double into the gap. And when you can drop one in there between the outfielders, you know you’re making the turn at first. It’s just an excellent swing. So, two down. The batter now, Junior Camero. He’s already homered here in this one. Just missed. Oh, he’s so good about trying to drive the ball to the opposite field gap in these situations. If he takes that approach, he could bust this game wide open. Two on, two outs. in there at the knees and a count even a one. One strike on the ground right side and that’s just foul and a one two. knocks that one away and will do it again. Two outs, two in scoring position. And that skips in the dirt. Two-2 now. And a foul ball. He stays alive. Really great change of speeds. as he goes off the off speed to the fast ball and the hitter doesn’t know what’s coming next. Swings through that one. It’s a strike out. I think the key is arm action on the change up. When you can sell it like a fast ball, you drop the velocity, you get the swinging mess, and you walk off the field. Back now in the Bronx. We head to the bottom of the fifth. Now it’s the short stop. Anthony Vulpi. Vulpi. Latell back to work. Ripped on the ground to second on to first. One up, one down. Oh, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. And here is Oswald PZA. He hit into a double play his first time off. To the right side, Aranda. And he takes it himself for the out. Up next for the Yankees, the center fielder, Trent Gisham. Back to the top of the lineup. So the batter now will be Trent Gisham. He’s 0 for one. Well, on the mound, very efficient, able to produce an outcome, it seems like within the third or fourth pitch of just about every bat. Laser could be trouble around first, heading for two. And he’ll pull in there with a stand up double. Well, here we are. Third time through the order. And this is where we see the OPS jump up. manager might have to go to the bullpen a little bit sooner than he anticipated. So, runner at second, two down. Aaron Judge stepping in now for the Yankees. There’s the strike. Runner at second. Two down. Last half of inning number five. And that’s downed away on the ground. And that’s a fair ball coming home. He’ll score easily. It’s an RBI single. It’s 42. Picks himself up an RBI. Turned on it nicely. Definitely a little out in front of the pitch, but he didn’t hook around it too much and was able to keep it fair down the line. And here comes Bellinger who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. Just missed. The one right through there for a strike. Judge leads off first with two down to the inning. That one misses and that’s ball two. to third. Camo. They take the force out and that is that. But the RBI single pushes across a run. It’s now 42. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. New inning getting started. And stepping in for the Rays, Josh Low. Low and that’s off the inside edge. One and0. That’s a ball on the ground right side. He gets there with the slide over to first and very nicely done for the out. Just so impressed with the movement on that play. Footwork was excellent. The arm strength was there and of course the most important part was getting the out. Here’s the left fielder Christopher Morell. He launched the solo shot back in the second inning of this one. Yeah, that was big for these guys early on. definitely helped him get off onto the right foot. Farrell 25 years old and he was born in the Dominican Republic. One down, base is empty. Just off the outside edge, two and 0. And there’s a ball. One straight. And there’s a foul ball. Ground ball right side. Chism. Two up, two down. Now batting catcher Danny Jansen. Now Danny Jansen. Let’s go Yankees. just missed. That’s the ball. Two down, nobody on. And we’re the top half of the sixth. Ripped to short now. A jump throw. And that’s a nice play to end the inning. Pure athleticism on that one. In the air, legs split a bit and fires across the diamond. He’s going to get a lot of high fives in the dugout. Back for more from the Bronx. John Shami with Chris Singleton in the booth. And leading off the bottom of the sixth, John Carlos. Go. That one fouled off. You know, these Yankees looking to string together better at bats when they have runners on, but it just hasn’t happened for them yet. They only have one hit with runners in scoring position. So, a lot of squandered opportunities. It’s tough because those are moments you just can’t get back. Oh, two down. Ball one there. swings and misses. Struck him out. Well, that’s the money maker right there. Two strikes sliding down and away from the same side as the hitter. I mean, that’s just tough. You’re looking to protect with two strikes and very difficult to lay off. And next for New York, Jazz Chisum Jr. That one outside and that is ball walk. Looking good Yankees. And that is in there for a strike. I believe that’s the split. The Rays holding on to a two-run lead here in the bottom of the six. The 1-1 is fouled off. And now the count is even. Let’s go New York. Smoked on the ground to second. Throws to first in time. And that quickly two away. Now batting first baseman Paul Goldmith. Goldie steps into the box. And that’s outside. That one pushed foul. Oh, he’s got to be pretty proud of this outing so far. Sometimes guys cower coming into a ballpark like this, but he has attacked hitters. Pitching on the road like this is very impressive. This has been a treat to watch. That one the other way and a base hit right there. So, a two out knock keeps the inning alive. Now batting catcher Austin. Austin Wells stepping in now for the Yankees. That one finds the zone. Strike one. Two outs. And it’s even up. Activity in the bullpen. Ryan Baker warming up for manager Kevin Cash. Number 48. Also getting ready. That misses the zone and it’s two and one. Gets the outside corner with that one. Swag and a miss. struck him out and he’s up to seven strikeouts. So, one hit is all they get. Seventh inning coming up. It’s the Rays four and the Yankees two now pitching. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound. Ian Hamilton. Just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where Bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. Here’s the short stop at the play. Taylor Wall. Taylor Walls. Yankees in the dirt and it’s one and0. And that drops in for a strike. Dangerous spot for that slider right there. Didn’t seem to quite finish out front and get that sharp break. Tell you what, he doesn’t want to throw that pitch again. One, two. out spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another check swing trying to hold up now it appeal to third and that’s going to be ruled a swing up next to Tampa Bay. So next to the plate for Tampa Bay Jose Cavayo Strike one. Activity in the bullpen for the Yankees. Will Warren, the hardthrowing righty, is up and loosening. Loisa getting cranked up as well. Base is empty. One away here in the top half of inning number seven. Swing in a miss. Oh, and two now. Two really good backto-back sliders now in an 02 count. He’s feeling real confident about finishing this hitter off. He can go anywhere he wants. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Two outs. Base is empty. And now the center fielder one for three and first offering is fouled off. Let’s go. Two down. Nobody on in the air right field. Judge makes the grab and that’s the inning. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Ryan Baker. Should be a good first match up for him here. He’s been doing a great job against right-handed bats so far this season. They’ve had a lot of trouble squaring him up. And now the short stop Anthony. The short stop. Anthony. The Yankees looking to rally. Swing and a miss. It might be time to choke up a little bit. Get that front foot down early, maybe even just spread out. He’s really late right now. Swinging a miss at a slider. Wow. No fair right there. I mean, that slider didn’t move till the very last moment. Incredibly difficult to pick that up. Just kind of have to tip your cap on that pit. The short stop takes the ball. I don’t like to say he wasted a pitch. I think that was a purpose pitch. Change the eye level, have him look up. Now go back exactly where you want to go. Swing and a miss. struck him out. A big first out here in the seventh via the punch out. Yeah, it just does so much to change the outlook of an important inning like this. You got the leadoff hitter so critical in setting the table when you got a tight game like this. So, a strikeout really puts them on their heels. And now Oswalt PZA highfly ball on that one. Curling foul down the right side. Let’s go Yankees. And a big swing in a miss. The Rays leading by two here in the bottom of the seventh. that misses and it’s one and two. Rarely will you see a pitcher just waste a pitch like that. The batter wasn’t even tempted to swing. Every pitch needs to have a purpose so that it can set up a following pitch to help you get that out. Swing and a miss and he’s down on strikes coming out of the bullpen and throwing beiel chance to strike out the side. Now, you talk about the benefits, the advantages of relievers who can come in and get the swing and miss, whether it’s inherited runners or maybe a little jam that they get into themselves, knowing that they can miss the bat. Tell you what, that’s huge and can change the ball game. Now, it’s Trent Gisham to the plate. Swang and a miss and it’s 0 and one. Important one. Swang and a ball lifted in the air. Low makes the catch. That is the inning. ready to begin the eighth. Now the number two hitter, Yandi Diaz. Diaz. Hamilton back to work. And that one is inside. One ball. No strike. Check swing called strike. One ball, one strike outside. And it’s two and one. Hard hit to third. The throw to first. First out in the top of the eighth. Now batting the first baseman, Jonathan Aranda. Now up for Tampa Bay, Jonathan Aranda. First pitch and that’s in for a strike. Slashed foul down the right side. That’ll hook off into the seats. That one in the dirt. One and two to count. And he can’t come up with it. Still fires to first. He’s in there. He makes the throw, but it’s not in time. And they come away without an out. Up next, next to bat will be the Rays four hitter, Junior Camro. He had a big swing back in the fourth, a two-run homer, and that helped them get the lead. And what a swing it was, Boo. Poetry in motion. And those are the type that you hardly feel when you connect with the baseball. Just so smooth. A great feeling off the bat. And the first pitch misses for ball. Let’s go. Swing and a miss as he was out front. One. That one. Not close. And it’s two and one. Let’s go. Fought off. Foul Aranda at first. One gone. Battling here as he fouls it away. Two- two now. And a slider misses down and away. At this point in the game, you cannot issue free passes. He’s going to have to challenge this hitter. Hitter’s got to be ready to swing it. Hit on the ground to the right side. Fair ball. Lead runner holds at third. So, two runners in scoring position and just one out. Having a really nice game here. That’s his second extra base hit with a pitch away. That’s exactly what you want to do with it. Drive it the other way. And right there, just barely able to keep it fair down the line for the double. Two on, one out. Josh Low next to hit for the Rays. Outside low, ball one in the infield at the corners. Don’t be surprised to see them come home first and prevent that run from scoring. Yankees. Two on, one out. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. Right through there for a strike. That one almost got him. Second and third. One away. And that’s in the third. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. And that’ll load the bases. Well, the stage has been set for this offense. Boo. It’s all about creating opportunities, and this is one of them right here. Here comes a skipper out of the dugout, and he’s ready to make the move. Ian Hamilton won’t go any further tonight. And he leaves with the bases loaded. So he’ll look for some help from his teammate coming in behind him. Now pitching. Will Warren found a pitch out of the pen here. Well, no margin for error in terms of throwing strikes with the bases loaded. Just has to execute one pitch at a time to try to get out of this. So bases loaded with one away. Christopher Morell next to hit for the Rays. He’s been really clutch with runners in scoring position this season. So they’ll have to be extra careful in this matchup. And a strike on the outside edge. I think ultimately you want to tie him up, get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield. Next pitch is downstairs. Swings and misses. Left with the sweeper and a swing to miss. Huge strike out there. Danny Jansen digs in now 0 for three with two ground outs and a strike out. Boo, this has been a good one. Really good game to this point and huge opportunity with the bases loaded. Gets the strike. That was the sweeper. Tough situation right here. So important as a pitcher to get ahead in the count as he did right there. Two outs. Swing and a miss as he was out front that time. Fast ball is outside. Well, he missed badly with that 02 fast ball. Hitter has to understand probably wants to try to put him away with that pitch. So, got to stay ready for it. And that’s in the dirt and the count is even. Two and two. So they’re all loaded up. This one is blasted. A no doubter grand slam. He sends it out of here and they add on. It’s 8-2. That’s their fourth home run of the game. They can’t stop and they won’t stop hitting home runs in this one, Boo. They’re clearly feeding off of each other at the dish. Well, he comes through big time with the grand slam here, but you also got to give some credit to the guys ahead of him. good at bats to get on base and really set the table for a very special moment in this one. And stepping in for the Rays, Taylor Walls. Foul ball. You’ll one swings through that one for strike two. I think he was sitting off speed there. That’s off the inside corner at a count one and two. Four runs already in the frame and we’re in the top of the eighth. Way inside and that hit him. He had him one two and he ends up hitting him with a pitch. Now it’s the second base Jose Caviierro first offering and it just misses. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Tim Hill getting loose out there for Aaron Boone. lifted in the air right field. Judge makes the play and that’ll do it. Big blast for the Rays. A grand slam and this is now an 82 ball game. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. It’s a bit of a blowout now, which gives us a bit more freedom here in the move. I’m not sure that’s a good thing. Sydney, where do you stand on the wave? Well, the wave of star players in MLB or the wave around this ballpark. The wave around the ballpark. I think it’s a little outdated. I’m more of a Thunder Sticks guy. And that’s not outdated. Judge waits and the slider just misses. We’ve got some superstitions up here in the booth and she never can say, “Hey, this game’s going really fast early in the ball game.” Yeah, that is one of the ways that we are capable of putting the jinx on the game is talking about how fast the game is going. That normally will grind it to a screeching halt. No question. Judge comes up empty there. Three in one. That clips the zone now. Three and two. Three balls, two strikes. Ground ball up the middle. A dive. Nice stop. The throw. Nicely done for the out. Man. Oh man. That ball was absolutely smoked. Tripledigit exit velocity dives. And I’m just shocked that the ball stayed in his mitt. Looked like he was going to put a hole in his glove. One down. Here comes Cody Bellinger. 0 for three in this one. Check swing and he went. That’s strike one. One strike. The Yanks with a lot of ground to make up here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. That’s in there and it’s nothing in two. Oh, this guy’s so comfortable hitting with two strikes. Even a good pitch early in the at bat. If he’s not ready to pull the trigger, he’s not worried if he gets to an 02 count. Foul ball still 0 and2. swings and misses. That K is his third of the game. Oh, there he gets the slider in on his hands and it just eats him off. You know, it’s hard to get the bat around on a pitch like that in time. You just feel like you’re crowded on the inside part of the plate. Can’t get any extension. That’s one he definitely should have laid off of. Stanton stands in here. tried to hold back his swing there but went around. New York hard ground ball base knock and that gives Jazz Chisum Jr. a chance to hit with two out. Now batting second base Jazz Jazz Chisum Jr. stepping in now for the Yankees. Yeah, the pitch is in for a strike. 0 and one. Go. And that’s pushed foul off to the left and out of play. Come on. Let’s go. Gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. And that skips in the dirt. Outside low and the count’s even at two. Stanton off of first with two away. Spoils that one and it remains two and two. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. He’s notched four strikeouts now. One left for the Yankees and it’s still 82. All set to start the ninth in this one. Here’s the center fielder number 14. On the ground to the left, Vulpi now. The throw to first on the run and he gets him. Nicely done. I love how guys at this level are able to slow the game down, whether it’s in the batters box or on defense. And right there, that was a good job of knowing just how much time he had. We talk about that internal clock. He was able to gather himself, get a good grip, and make an accurate throw across the diamond on the ground to third. And that one handled. Gets it to first. And a couple of quick outs. Now batting the first baseman, Jonathan Oranda. And now the first baseman, Jonathan Oranda. No matter what, when you’re playing this kind of rival to take your game to another level. It immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Movement in the Yankees pen. Scott Efro getting loose out there for Aaron Boone. Two down, nobody on here in the top of the ninth. up and in. And the count is one and one. The other way, brings it in. And that is that. Three up, three down for him there. 678 scheduled to start the bottom of the ninth. It’s the Rays eight and the Yankees two. Now pitching for a new pitcher in the game, Ryan Pepio. And compared to a lot of other relievers, strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year. So the defense should be active. Here’s Paul Goldmith. For the Yankees, the first baseman, Paul Goldmith. There’s a strike. Pepio in his third season. He features a fourseam fast ball, a change up, a slider, a cutter, and he occasionally uses a curve. The next pitch misses. Ball one. Just missed. Two and one. Highf fly ball lifted into air right field and there’s one down. The kicker number 28 Austin Austin Wells stepping in now for the Yankees. Basketball for a strike. Base is empty. One away here. The last half of inning number nine and that one fouled off. The O2 and that one missing inside. A sharp slider and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. One down, base is empty. Twins and misses. It’s a strike out and they’re down to their last out. So, the bullpen doing a nice job backing up the effort from their starter. Yeah, we’ve seen some pretty excellent pitching out of the staff so far. I mean, they’ve come in ready to do their job and get outs. They’ve been pretty tough to get to in this one. So, last chance for the Yankees. And up next for New York, Anthony Vulpi. And that’s off the inside edge. And that’s ball one. Right through there for a strike. That’s off the mark. Ball two. Two balls, one straight. And that one is in for a strike. Good pitch. Backto-back fast balls in. That last one called for a strike. Probably go away, but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off. This could end it. Swinging a ground ball up the middle. A dive. He’s got it. And what a play ball game. What an exciting finish to this game. An amazing play right there. It’s hard for the fans to go home. They want more. They’re not ready to leave and head to their cars, but an outstanding job to keep entertaining all the way to the end. 82 the final here for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shambi. Thanks for joining us. What the
