  1. Going camping for the next two days and got a yeti cooler….used to make fun of those for being expensive and unnecessary. Then I remembered I’m keeping brats in a hot car all day while I a fish….might want to double down on the coldness thing.

Here’s hoping Yzerman makes a splash and a talented winger today

  2. Keep seeing people talk about ASP and poor defensive play or low defensive upside. I know hes small, but everything ive seen and read about him says that hes actually a good defender for his size. Good gap control, strong defensive stick, smart in his own end. Obviously he’s likely going to struggle clearing the front of the net and hes never going to put someone through the boards because of his size, but where did this notion that hes a bad defender come from? Is it just his size or is there more to it that ive just missed?

His career is largely going to be built on what he can do offensively, but to me it looks like he can be solid enough defensively to not need sheltering, even if having s strong defensive partner will likely always be preferable so he can focus more on the offensive side of his game. I know its junior, but he was one of the better defenders and had some of the best defensive numbers in the most recent world juniors. Just curious on that side of things from what ive read and seen vs what im hearing now from peiple

  3. I got a haircut after not getting it cut for months because of our baby, and my goodness it feels good to be free of that mop.

I do not know how anyone makes it through the dog days of summer with long hair.

  4. Red Wings Off-season… 56 days until preseason puck drop… Pretty awesome that today, on Dylan “D-Boss” Larkin’s 29th birthday, we’re sitting at exactly 71 days left until the regular season home opener against Montreal. How freaking cool is that?! I’m not sure what the logistics look like to pull off such a feat, so I have to imagine the hockey gods certainly must have planned that one out themselves. The man deserves to have a great freaking day. He’s the heart and soul of this team in every possible way; always the hardest working guy on the ice, the first to celebrate his teammates’ successes, and a leader in the purest sense of the word. He’s everything you could want in a captain.

It’s actually supposed to rain here in Central Florida today, which should cool things off a touch. But since it’s late July going into August, I don’t suspect it will last long. The rain just makes the air thick and heavy, like trying to breathe through a hot, wet towel. We’ll be back up to the upper 90s with a “feels like” of 110 in no time. The suffocating humidity is just relentless.

It’s all fueling the house hunt. We’re still trying to decide which part of Michigan we want to move to, trying to balance being on the water and owning some land with being close enough to the 313 to frequent games at the LCA without it being a whole day trip. We are not rushing things by any means, but we’re both chomping at the bit to pull the trigger here. Florida sucks.

And honestly, the thought of escaping the heat and hurricane season is just as appealing as the thought of finally getting away from Gary and Dave.
