  1. Devers not having a feel for a position he’s never played before is a little different than a guy who has played SS literally his entire life.

  2. Yea…the guy who is a primary SS and 2nd in errors isn’t worse than the relatively new 1B /s

  3. This entire play is atrocious, but TBF Devers is literally learning how to play first on the fly in season. He has no intuitive understanding yet of which balls to the right side are playable by him vs. the second baseman.

The pitcher…well that’s just inexcusable. It’s clear that after the 2B looked to third, the pitcher then followed him by looking to third and didn’t see the double pump and adjustment.

  4. Lol. That’s pretty funny. He’s really lazy. From stuff like this to not showing up for 1B help, it makes the sox look smarter by the day

  5. Both the Pitcher & Devers were looking towards 2nd at the time of the throw. I wonder if they were expecting Schmitt to throw to 2nd to get lead runner.

  6. That is certainly bad but Volpe literally leads the league in errors he literally has the worst fielding percentage in the league for a SS. Volpe’s play alone makes a stat like DRS completely void IMO. If the guy with the most errors in the league is somehow still considered a “average defender” by a stat that stat is useless. And before someone says it’s cause range or some shit, Volpe’s errors have done more harm to the Yankees than if he just let the ball get through the infield I will take less range if it means less mistakes.

  7. I’d rather have good fielding than bad or worse fielding.

Still no excuse to have a SS that can’t make a routine throw to 1st.

  8. Yeah this doesnt mean anything. A guy who has a reputation for subpar defense AND is learning a new position on the fly midseason making a dumb error and an isolated lapse in judgement around it by a few teammates does not assuage the fact that we have a guy who has played SS his entire career, and at an above average level for most if it at that, is suddenly making egregious errors that cost his team runs/games on a seemingly weekly basis for several months running now.

That being said, it is a funny video and as someone who always hated Devers for how much he killed us and seemed very smug about it, i’ll never not smile a little seeing him derp out, even if he’s no longer a red sock.

  9. Idk, the Yankees embarrass themselves each and every night. And calm down guys, I’m a Yankee fan

  10. This is a rare occurrence that’s amplified by the a dude that’s never played the position before, pretty different from a Gold Glover turning into a guy who leads the league in errors

  11. The only guy who seemed to really mess up was the pitcher. Devers is just learning the spot and strayed too far and got in no man’s land, understandable though. The second baseman assumed the pitcher would know what’s going on and threw the ball to the right spot. The pitcher needs to follow the play as he’s covering though, no excuse for him.

  12. I do think Yankee fans need regular reminders that things can indeed be so much worse than they are
