Should The Maple Leafs Sign Joel Kiviranta? | SDP

It’s tough. This is from Damian Cray on Discord. Should the Leafs try and sign Joel Kivir. He had the best I wondered personal season last year. He could be perfect for the bottom six. So, at some point, you got to stop uh acquiring bottom sixers like Infinity Stones. But we can’t have like 18 guys for the bottom six. Yeah. But you know what I’m starting to realize because like listen, this was not exactly a star-studded free agent class or at least not in terms of depth, but there’s guys like there’s um the name I keep bringing up is uh Brett Leon. Um because he played the KHL, Steve, I know, but he played for the Ducks and he’s [ __ ] enormous. He’s 6’5. You love Brett Le. 230. No, just cuz I’m looking I’m like who fits the thing? Ki Ront is, I think, clearly a useful player, clearly an NHL player, and yet he doesn’t have a deal. 5’11, Steve. I know, but there are guys I like him a lot. I like him a lot. There are guys who who I think guys are going to sneak through waiverss that you couldn’t have possibly imagined uh this year. And I wonder if he’s one of them. like there there are gonna be every year there are dozens of NHL quality players who play in the American Hockey League. Uh also maybe I just want to throw that out there. Ke seven games in the playoffs, zero points. Yeah, except he had a game seven hattick uh in 2020 2020 or 2021, I can’t remember. Probably 2019 because it’s the only time he’s ever scored more than one goal in the playoffs. That’s wrong. He he had a game seven hat-tick against the Let me see. So Adam’s showing it to me. Adam, that’s 2020. You boner. Oh, okay. It’s in 2019 20 season. In 14 games, he had five goals, one assist. Well, there you go. Yeah, I was still right. He’s only ever done it once. You said 2019 and you’re [ __ ] giving people [ __ ] Well, we can’t have Ki Aruk. He’s a passenger in the playoffs. So you would like to replace him with Joel Kibby Rant. Kibby Rant has right. Who was right on me? Okay. Kibby Rant had as many goals in that playoff run. Uhhuh. as Yarn Croak has in his entire career in over a 100 years. Yeah. And you know what he’s done since? Two goals in like 40 games. That’s still more. You’re also not getting Kir to be Austin Matthews. Like you we’re not expecting him to be Cali Yarnro. We’re not expecting him to score 60 goals here. you’re getting him to be the new Finnish stereotype, which like never really made its way into the lexicon of hockey. Like, you know how like Swedes are all finesse and no contact, which I mean guys like Thomas Holmstrom should have buried that dead in the ground a long time ago. Yeah. Um the Fins are [ __ ] vicious. Like they’re they’re pesky. They’re jerks. And those are the kinds of guys who succeed on your fourth life. It’s so funny cuz they’re such a a nation of very kind people. You get them on the ice though, they’re all bastards. I mean, I think you could say that about a lot of hockey playing. Fins have like a thing. There’s like a like like you can’t rile them about anything. No, you can’t. But they’ll do stuff to you that’ll make you crazy. Yes. The Russians are like finesse, finesse, finesse. Okay, I’m going to [ __ ] kill you. Like like Cooerov and Malcin and those guys are like they’re like, “Oh my god, I’ve never seen a player skate like that, handle a puck like that, chop a guy’s head off like that. It’s crazy, right? They’re they’re they’re fine until they cross the road carrying four laptops and you nudge them with your car and they go, “Look at this. You nudged my four laptops.” People don’t know that story.   4. Steve, stop trying to add a Bugatti for the price of a Lada. Clean out the garage. Yes, ONE player to replace Marner was close to improbable but Marners line didn't lose every game for us. Upgrading the 3rd and 4th lines with Marners money makes the team better. Any player on the Matthew's line has to share points on, say 150 goals a season. Whether that's 40 goals and 60 assists or 60 goals and 40 assists, that's all that's available. If the third and fourth lines only share 40 goals a year, the value is going to be in not giving up goals. The leafs are supposedly a puck possession type of team. More money/skill in the middle/bottom 6 can't be a bad thing. One player can't win the cup with 22 minutes of ice per game, but your bottom 6 has to be much better not to lose you the cup.   6. god i hope we can re sign him and for at least 3 years id be happy giving him 2 million ,we have very little in draft picks not like it matters cause were a young team but this is when u need to sign guys for that 2-3 year window while the picks replenish .
