MLB LIVE🔴 Houston Astros vs Washington Nationals – Jul 30, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
just about ready to go. And today’s starter, Jason Alexander. What’s the word on him? Yeah, he’s definitely had a struggle so far this year as evidenced by that inflated whip. But he’s going to have to find a way to limit the base runners, put his team in a position to win a ball game. So, we know he’s prepared. We know this guy is a competitor and we’ll watch how he works in this one. Here’s CJ Abrams to hit. [Applause] That catches the outside corner and we are underway. First pitch 110. Oh, one down. Swing and a miss. ripped to third and caught Martinez lineup for the Nationals. Singing, we’re looking at a young lineup here. Not much experience, but they’re going to bring a lot of energy to the field. Yeah, and that’s just it, Boo. We expect this lineup to play hard no matter what. They are an exciting group to watch. And now up for Washington, James Wood. It’s been a tough stretch for him at the plate under the Mendoza line so far this month. And that one fouled off. One out. Base is empty. And that one missing inside. A sharp slider. [Music] Hard hit right side. Duvong takes it to the bag. Two up, two down. Batting third, second base, Luis Garcia. Two down, base is empty. And now it’s Luis Garcia. And that’s in for a strike. 0 and one. [Applause] [Music] This ball’s chopped on the ground. Dubong and they put the tag on him for the out. And the Nationals gone in order. Now here come the Astros. No score. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. And we’re back. And on the hill, the lefty Mitchell Parker and Singi. We were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. Well, coming into this game, hitters are batting under 250 against this starting pitcher. So, it just shows you how effective he’s been. He’s been able to move his pitches around, add and subtract, change up the look so that hitters don’t get too comfortable, and start squaring up the baseball. We’ll see what he’s got in this one. Swings through that one. I got one ball, one strike. [Music] Just missed. [Applause] [Music] Fouls one off. Two at two. [Applause] and a curve is down and in. [Music] Swing and a miss at the splitter and it’s a strike out. That’s about as nasty of a splitter as you’ll come across, especially in terms of movement. I mean, that thing tumbles out of his hand and just drops off the table at the last moment. If he keeps it down, it’s just so tough to put wood on. Here’s the former MVP Jose Altuve. That one misses and it’s one and0. Altuve always seems to be setting records or reaching milestones. Boo. In 2023, he became the fastest player to reach 2,000 career hits, 200 home runs, and 200 stolen bases in MLB history. Two balls, no strikes. [Music] And another ball. [Applause] Yeah, that’s fouled off. [Music] Swing and a foul. Pushed off to the right and that will get out of play. [Music] outside and that is ball four. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch and I’ll tell you what, he earned that man at first with one gone. Now it’s the DH Christian Walker and that one fouled off. [Applause] [Music] And it’s even up. Altuve the runner at first with one gone in the inning. [Music] The 1-1 is fouled off. [Applause] And that’s off the inside edge. And the count is two and two. [Applause] [Music] And foul ball. [Music] And that’s a strikeout. looking fast ball at the letters frozen for strike three. Wow, that’s a tough call for the hitter, but the pitcher will take that all day long. Not quite in the strike zone, but he found a spot that the umpire is going to at least for now allow him to get that call. So, hitters are going to have to make an adjustment, but pitchers are going to learn from those things and really try to exploit them if they can. Yiner Diaz, the next to hit, takes ball one. That’s ball. [Applause] Next pitch misses outside and that’s ball three. [Music] [Applause] Astros. And that’s in for a strike. Well, with this many pitches thrown here in this first inning, I mean, you’re giving the other team a really good look. He’s going to have to find a way to get some weak contact, maybe a swing and miss. Get into that dugout and hit the reset button. They take the force out. And that is that. One left for Houston. Scoreless after one. Back here in Houston, new inning getting started. And here’s the DH for Washington. Josh Bell. Alexander, 32 years old. They got him off of waiverss earlier this season. Alexander back to work and that is downstairs. Ball one. That one miss. Eric Summersgill, our plate umpire. One thing to watch out for, Boog, is what side of the plate Summers Gill might be favoring. He usually sets up at an angle. Pitchers sometimes will try to figure that out early so they can attack that spot and get as many strike calls as possible. That one’s spoiled and the count now two and one. Swinging a foul out of play. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Liner snakes at first. Well, baseball can be cruel, can’t it? I mean, sometimes it gives, sometimes it takes away. He did everything right on that swing, but he’s got nothing to show for it. Nathaniel Low up to hit. Good defender. He’s been inconsistent offensively. That misses the zone. And that’s ball one. You have to be creative. Pitching against bad ball hitters. You got to add some velocity. Subtract at times. Just avoiding the heart of the plate isn’t always going to be enough. Guys like this can hurt you with pitches you wouldn’t expect him to swing at. That one misses. Two and one. Two. One. Let’s go. Oh, that pitch is out. That one pushed to the left and fouled. Oh, look at the stop. Throw to the pitcher. Nicely done for the out. All right, let’s go. Batting six, third baseman Brady House. Two outs. Base is empty. Now the third baseman Brady House. That one a little bit high. And that is ball one. No strike. Two out. Space is empty. up the middle. Oh, what a stop from his knees. The throw on the money. Nice play. This guy’s anticipation is off the charts. Don’t see many shorts stops better than that. Great job to complete the play and end the inning. back here in Houston. Bottom of the second. And now the center fielder, Chaz McCormick. McCormick. He swings and misses at the first pitch. 0 and one. Now, the key to his success is getting ahead early in the count. He cannot afford to go deep in the counts. Doesn’t have a ton of swing and miss stuff, so he’s going to have to work efficiently. kick San Dieios. That’s outside. It’s two and two. Really good take especially with two strikes. Two-2 now and he couldn’t hold back. He’s rung up on strikes. Here’s Mauricio Dubon. Climb the ladder with that fast ball. That’s strike one. [Applause] fought off foul. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Bryce Matthews up next for the Astros. Foul ball. Line drive. Wood makes the grab and that is that. No runs, no hits, no errors. We head on down to the top of the third. No score. And welcome back to the ballpark. And now here’s a speed threat outfielder Dalon Lyall. Get out of here, DC. Swings through that one for strike one. 0 and one. [Applause] Next offering is fouled back. Got him. And there’s one away. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more. His timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strike out. [Applause] And here’s the catcher, Drew Millis. Breaking ball inside. And that’s ball one. And there’s the strike. Top of the third, no score. [Applause] Right through there for a strike. One down. Base is empty. Close but called the ball. Two and two. Well, clearly not too happy with the call there. Thought he caught the top of the zone and you could pretty much read his lips saying that’s not up. [Music] That’s a little bit low. Swaging a ball hit out towards left center field. Hummel pulls it in on the run. Well, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. [Applause] This one popped up. Nabs it and that is that Nationals goal quietly and we’re still knotted at zero. Bottom of the inning. Digging in is the switch inning outfielder Cooper Hmel. Cooper Hmel. [Applause] That one ripped but foul [Music] and a foul ball. and he can’t come up with it. Still fires to first. Too late and the runner is safe and the misplay cost him. Pretty much gifted a lead off base runner right there. And as an offense, this is where you really want to take advantage. Apply some pressure this inning. Make that error hurt. [Applause] Now it’s Zack Short. Now step throw to first. Dives back in safely. The shorts stop takes a ball. Pummel gets his lead at first. Nobody out. And that one fouled off. [Music] [Applause] And there’s the ball. Was good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, you got a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. got him looking now. Five strikeouts for him on the mound. How about that? And stepping in for the Astros. Cam Smith definitely wants to stay out of the double play here. Ball on the ground in the infield. Should be an inning ending double play. [Applause] And there’s a foul ball. Run. Run around the move. Pitch in for a strike. And that’s a stolen base. Not even close. Well, we all know this team is struggling right now. And sometimes you just got to do something different to generate some offense. A little more aggressive right there to put the pressure on the opponent. We’ll see if it pays off on the scoreboard for this team. [Applause] One ball, two in the dirt. [Applause] And now two and two. [Applause] Misses. It’s a strike out. Well, a wellthrown splitter is going to do exactly that. Get you off balance thinking it’s a fast ball. Very similar to a change up, but often times a split’s going to have even more downward movement with more velocity. Good pitch. So the go-ahehead run in scoring position. Jose Altuve up to hit here. He reached out a walk his first time. And that’s off the outside edge. One and0. [Applause] [Music] That’s a ball in the dirt. [Music] Man on second, two down. That’s ball three. Christian Walker in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Fast for a strike. Clearly taking all the way there in that three count. There was a cookie right down the middle. [Applause] That one ripped back there and it’s off the wall. The rain comes across and the Astros for first. It’s one nothing. Well done. Drives in the run. Absolutely blasted that one into the gap, but just didn’t have quite enough to clear the wall out there. Maybe a little more elevation under it and it carries over. But that’s a swing you’ll be happy with every time. And now it’s Christian Walker. [Applause] First pitch and he just misses. [Applause] just he looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout [Applause] and that’s downstairs and that’s ball three. Get ready for some action here. Good RBI guy at the plate. Runners in scoring position and the hitters count. [Applause] Hey on the ground to third. House tosses to first. That ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand. Astros pick up a run on the RBI double. It’s now one- nothing. Major League Baseball is on the show back here at Dykin Park. Out of the fourth, the batter now, CJ Abrams. And immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. [Applause] [Music] In the air, right field. on your horse. Smith makes the catch and there’s one gone. [Applause] Now batting left fielder James Wood. So digging in James Wood. You talk about the power and the speed together. Well, we knew he was going to be a stud just coming up making his way through the minor leagues and quickly at this level an impact player. And there’s a rocket into the outfield around first heading for two. And now the tying run is into scoring position. Man, those are the types of hits where you don’t feel any vibration in your hands whatsoever. Such a good feeling. A well-deserved double on a great swing. Got everything going on time. He stayed balanced and he squared it up about as well as you could possibly ask. One out, runner at second. Next to hit, Luis Garcia grounded out his first time. And there’s a base hit to left. Coming home. Fires to the plate. He’s safe as he gets his hand in. It’s 1-1. Well, there you go. The RBI machine. Another clutch runscoring at bat. Yeah, he’s been so good in these situations. Call it clutch if you want, but his resume speaks for itself. Go ahead run on base. Digging in. Josh Bell 0 for one so far. And that one missing low. [Applause] the one man at first, one away. Next offering is downstairs. [Applause] swings and misses. Struck him out. He just ran out of patience there. He took a couple of pitches to even that count up. Two balls and two strikes, but that time chased outside the zone. [Applause] Low in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike out to short. They get the force that ends the frame. So, one run in the inning on this base hit. All even at one a piece. Bottom four. At the plate is the Astros catcher Yiner Diaz. Diaz. That one is upstairs. Well, these Astros doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of him. He’s only given up one run, but the starter’s pitch count is starting to get up there. And that might be the best news yet for this offense. Right side hard hit over to Low. Lead off hitter retired in the fourth. Oh, he’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air. Lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball. Good execution. And next to hit for Houston, Chaz McCormick. His first at bat was a strikeout. swings through the fast ball up in the zone. He’s pitching well, but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes. Usually doesn’t work out for success, but you can never predict baseball. That’s a strike and it’s 0 and two. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. And a swing and a miss. Make it seven strikeouts for him. Just blown away in that at bat. three fast balls, all strikes. He wasn’t even able to foul one off. There’s not much you can take away from an at bat like that as a hitter other than maybe there’s something wrong with your eyes. He’s got to have better timing on the fast ball next time. So, up next, Mauricio Dubon. That’s in there. That’s strike one. Next offering is fouled back. [Music] Here’s a rocket out to left. Wood makes the play and it’s out number three. Astros are down quietly. Score remains tied 1-1. Ready now for the fifth inning. Up now for Washington. Brady House. House. Astros. Alexander back to work. Just missed. You know, these Nationals just aren’t putting great swings on the baseball in this one. Just one extra base hit for them. So, they haven’t exactly been hitting the ball gap to gap or out of the park. That makes it really difficult to generate runs. And another ball. There’s the strike. This game has been so tight. Feels like the next team to score will win it. Rips one to right and that’s just fouled. [Music] Swing and a miss. Struck him out. That K is his third of the game. Well, that right there is just a pitcher’s pitch. Tailing away from the hitter, blowing away with some good action at the end. You know, even if he gets the bat to that ball, it’s probably just a weak ground ball to the opposite side. I tell you what, that’s a tremendous two- strike pitch. Digging in, it’s the speedy outfielder Jaylen Lyall. That one finds the zone. Strike one. He’s pitching well, but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes usually doesn’t work out for success, but you can never predict baseball. One down, base is empty. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. Moving in the bullpen, Valdez appears to be getting loose. Ochre getting cranked up as well. [Applause] spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another. Stays alive. [Applause] [Music] Sit him down. Hit on the ground to short. Short whips it across and the first two set down in the top of the fifth. Now batting catcher Drew Millis. Next to hit for the Nats. Drew Millis fly to left his first time. [Music] Millis measures 6 feet even 205 lbs and he was drafted in the seventh round back in 2019. Swing and a ground ball out to short gets it to first and it’s a one two3 inning. Nothing doing for Washington. Score remains deadlocked at one. And we’re back. We head to the bottom of the fifth. And now Bryce Matthews. Bryce Matthews. And that is out of play. Well, these Astros being a little too patient at the plate in this game. Sometimes it’s a good thing, but today they’re continuing to fall behind in the count and that’s adding a ton of pressure to their offense. And it’s through for a hit. Had a good start to the inning. Timing on the swing was good. Able to shoot the ball up the middle. Didn’t square it up as much as he probably would have liked, but that’s a good approach paying off. So, next up for Houston, Cooper Hmel. He’s 0 for one. Right down to shoot and it’s 0 and one. Matthews aboard here at first with nobody out. [Applause] Line drive and this might be trouble. Here’s the throw. And he’s got a double. Hey He was all over that one. Kind of a risky pitch coming inside with the breaking ball like that. You have to bury it otherwise it’s not too difficult to get the bat to it like he did that time. A chance now to take the lead and at this point in the game that could be a deciding run. Now Zack Short in the dirt. Wow, that’s a great job behind the dish there. Two in scoring position. Nobody out. Last half of inning number five. On the ground to short. Abrams tosses across to first. That’s out number one. And a run comes in to score. [Applause] Now it’s the right fielder Cam Smith. Pull for two in this one. [Applause] That one is absolutely belted. That’s a fair ball and it’s getting into the corner. The run comes in from second. Not in time. It’s a double. Well, here we are. Third time through the order. And this is where we see the OPS jump off. Manager might have to go to the bullpen a little bit sooner than he anticipated. Here comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Mitchell Parker is done and he’s responsible for the runner on second, so the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. Now pitching for Andrea Lara gets the call from the pen. Just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. Jose Altuve will hit next. Drove it off the wall last time. Just missed out on a home run. There’s a swing and a drive. Going back. Bangs off the wall. Ground third headed to the plate. throw is offline and he scores and they lead by three. That’s two consecutive extra base hits for this team. Just missed out on a home run right there, but he certainly hit it hard enough. Just didn’t have the right launch angle to carry it over the wall, but still an excellent swing of the bat. So now here’s the DH. Christian Walker a little bit high. Ball one. [Applause] Swan belted. And a foul ball. Runner at second here. One gone. And that misses. And a count. Two and one. Action in the pen down there. Jose a Ferrer looks to be getting ready for Dave Martinez. Chaffen also throwing. [Applause] swings through that one. It’s a strike out. Oh, that slider was way out of the zone. And for me, it just comes down to not seeing the pitch out of the hand, not tracking into the zone, and then also being a little bit anxious, not confident in your two strike approach. And so when a guy’s in that position, you get him to commit early and a lot of times you get the swing and miss as you did right there. Yer Diaz up next for the Astros. And that’s a strike. Rudder at second. Two down. [Applause] check swing. He held up and now it’s even one and one. [Applause] Popped up foul territory behind a play. Milis puts it away. That is the inning. Three runs for him here and they move ahead. We’re through five. It’s the Astros four and the Nats won. We’re back and they make a change to start the sixth. The new pitcher Valdez hasn’t pitched in the last three days. Number 59 Valdez. Jacob Young getting ready to hit his split numbers between June and July there. [Music] Out to short go. The throw to first. One up, one down. Up next, short CJ Abs. Here’s CJ Abrams now taking high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform, but at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. Line to left and it hops over the wall for an automatic double. Well, there’s something really nice about getting yourself an automatic double like that. You get to stroll into second base without having to worry about a throw or getting your uniform dirty. And now you’re just looking for the next hitter to kind of do the same thing. Maybe put one in the gap so you can jog home as well. One out, runner at second. Wood digs in now. Valdez checks the runner. Abs back on a dive. That misses off the outside edge. [Music] Man at second. Right through there for a strike. That clips the corner. Pitch misses there. And that’s ball two. [Music] And downstairs. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked in the air out towards right center. McCormick trying to get there. Two-way down. [Applause] Now batting second base Luis Garcia. So digging in, Luis Garcia. Picked up an RBI in his last at bat. Still their only run of the game so far. Ground ball right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. No runs, one hit, no errors and a man left. We go to the bottom half of inning number six and the 567 slots do up. It’s the Astros four and the Nats won. Back here in Houston, John Shi with Chris Singleton in the booth. And leading off the bottom of the six, Chaz McCorm and ball one. He’s one of those Dave Mccardi, Mark Carry on, Ricky Henderson types. Throw left, bat right. You make a note of those guys cuz it’s just different. It’s like, man, you’re left-handed, but you hit right-handed. All sliders so far in this at bat to get ahead in the count and clearly shows there was a game plan in mind for how to attack him in the box. Line drive and that’s a fair ball around first. digging for two, throws to second, not in time. That’s a leadoff double. A late jump. And I think that was the difference on the play. It’s not always easy seeing the ball off the bat. Something to improve. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Mauricio Dubon up next for the Astros. And that drops in for a strike. 01’s the count. McCormack at second with nobody out. Check on the runner. McCormack back in on a dive. Next offering is fouled back. Here we go. Astros. Here we go. And a swing and a miss. Not what you’re looking for after the leadoff double. A strike out. And there’s one away. It’s a good breaking ball there just off the corner where you can’t really do much damage, but it’s close enough to where you got to protect. And he just couldn’t find a way to fight it off. Bryce Matthews up next for the Astros. One for two. That’s in for a strike. Oh, and one ball one there. One out, a runner at second here in the bottom of the six. [Music] That one inside and it’s two and one. Next offering misses down and away. This to third. House tosses to first. Two away. Now batting left fielder Cooper Hmel. And stepping in for the Astros, Cooper Hmel. [Applause] That one’s in there. Strike one. Two outs and one in scoring position. That clips the zone. That’s strike two. perhaps not quite ready to hit. First two pitches by him for a couple of strikes. Now back is against the wall. He’s going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly. Checks his swing. Appeal to third. No swing. He held up. Carl Dixon with the call there. And now the count is even. [Music] fights it off. He’ll see another two outs on the ground right side. Garcia to first, but it pulls him off the bag. [Music] looked to me like he got on the side of the ball a little too much right there. Maybe a little too casual as well with the throwing motion. And when you don’t stay on top of the ball and really get out front and finish with a good release point, it’s very easy to lose control of it to either side. Zack Short up next for the Astros. Astros. That’s hard hit on the line. Nice grab on the run and the inning is over. So they strand a pair. Seventh inning coming up. It’s the Astros four and the Nats won. Back here in Houston all set for the start of the Here’s Josh Bell. The Nets in striking distance but have some work to do. Boo. It starts with the laidoff man. I need a good at bat out of him right here. That one finds the zone. Strike one. It’s been tough for the offense so far, but you can’t get frustrated. You got to find a way to shake it off. Go up there and relax. That’s the only way you’re going to be able to put runs up on the board. [Applause] And there’s a ball. Two strikes. line drive. McCormack makes the play and there’s one down. Up next for the National First Nation, Nathaniel. Here’s Nathaniel Low. And that one is lifted in the air. Smith calls it in and there’s two away. Now batting. Third base. Two down. Base is empty. Brady House digging in for the Nationals. Here we go. First pitch and that’s in for a strike. Next offering is fouled back. Two down, nobody on here in the top half of inning number seven. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And good work there as he gets a one two three. Nationals go quietly and this is still a 41 ball game. Now pitching for Andrew Chaffan enters the game and we all know about his slider. It’s just filthy man. One of the better ones in the game I’d say. spin rate’s very high and it just breaks a ton. Back to the top of the order and now the right fielder Cam Smith number 11 swings and hits one in the air out towards right field. Lyall makes a nice running catch. Woo! He was all over that first pitch fast ball, just barely missed it. Man, this guy was ready to hit. And next to hit for Houston, Jose Altuve. Ball one, no strikes. The Nationals have some action going in the pen. Jose a Ferrer looks to be getting ready for Dave Martinez. Let’s go. One down, base is empty. And another ball. [Applause] [Music] Hard hit. Knocks it down. Now batting at first. And next is the designated hitter, Christian Walker. Off the mark there. And it’s one and0. Altuve leads off first with one away. Swaying at a ball popped in the air. They fired in quickly. So it’s first and second with only one away. Now batting catcher Yer Diaz up next for the Astros. 0 for three in this one. That one miss [Music] one fouled off. Runners at first and second with one gone here. The bottom of the seventh. That misses. Two and one. Tough spot right here. A couple runners on. Two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. [Music] Spoils that one. And it remains two and two. [Music] gets a piece and stays alive. Battling here as he fouls it away. Here we go. [Applause] Swing and a ball lifted left field. Wood puts it away for the out and there are two outs. Now batting center fielder Chad. And the batter now McCormick one for three. That misses and that is ball one. Two outs. Couple of base runners at first and second. Swing and a miss and a count. One and one. Swaging a drive deep left field that’s back gone into the Crawford box is a home run. His first homer of the year. It’s 71. Chris, we knew this moment was coming for him soon. Yep. And it finally came. We knew it was only a matter of time before he’s going to connect with one just like that. Just too good of a hitter at the plate. He’s so good at getting his arms extended and that’s exactly what he did right there. Won’t typically want to pull a pitch in that part of the plate, but he doesn’t allow his wrist to roll over. Stays through the ball, gets the lock and gets the home run. Manager out of the dugout now and it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Andrew Chaffan gives way and as he heads for the dugout, we’ll take a quick break. New arm on the mound when we get back. On the mound now, Jose a Ferrer. And one thing on him, he’s been really good this season at keeping the ball in the park. Not an easy guy to take deep. So, two down. So, next up for Houston, Mauricio Dubon. And first off is fouled off. [Applause] Foul ball there. Swing and a ball lined out towards center. Young grabs it on the run. Houston brings in three on this homer and the lead is stretched to 71. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back here at Dyken Park ready to begin the eighth. Now it’s the right fielder Den Ly. Right fielder number 51 Valdez back to work. Valdez in his sixth season. He features a sinker, a curb, a change up, a slider, and he works in a four seamer out towards right center. That’s well struck. That one carrying and it one hops the wall and that’s a leadoff double. Everything came together for him. Pretty much just a textbook double into the gap. And when you can drop one in there between the outfielders, you know you’re making the turn at first. Just an excellent swing. So man aboard and it’s the catcher for the Nationals, Drew Millis. First off, and it just misses [Music] and it’s fouled away. Runner at second. Nobody out. Pitch misses. Two and one. Not really attacking on the mound in this at bat. all breaking balls. So that makes me think they’re not really wanting to challenge him here in the dirt. Blocked tag save. He’s into third on the wild pitch. Even with a good secondary lead, sometimes it’s hard to see just how far that ball’s gotten away from the catcher. And if you can make it to third base, pretty much standing up. Well, that time he seemed to have a pretty good read, gets to third safely, and now he’s just 90 ft away from scoring. got the bat going too soon. It’s strike two. This guy’s sink has so much drop in it. It’s almost like a split finger fast ball. Instead of just weak contact and balls on the ground, he gets swings and misses and ball four, two aboard. Just missed his spot on the inside right there. Up next for Washington. So they’re at the corners now. Jacob Young the next to hit. Ground ball right side. Could be two. Bears one on the first, but he beats it and a run scores. CJ Abrams digging in for the Nationals. Close [Applause] one. Doesn’t get the call. And that’s ball one. Young over at first with one away. [Applause] Swinging a dribbler. Foul first base side. [Applause] And strike two. Big time jam right there. I hate it as a hitter, but standing in center field, you can’t help but chuckle a little bit. [Applause] Foul ball still a one and two count. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. [Applause] And a one-two fouled off. And they’ll do it again. The Stros leading by five and we’re in the top of the eighth. Swinging a ground ball. Off balance feed. There’s one. And it’s a double play to end the inning. So, it’s one run, one hit, no errors, and no one left on. Home half of inning number eight straight ahead. It’s the Astros seven and the Nationals two. And welcome back to the ballpark. Now, it’s the second baseman, Bryce Matthews, for the Astros. Second baseman, Bryce Matthews. First pitch misses. Activity in the Washington bullpen. Luis Garcia looks to be getting ready for Dave Martinez. Next offering is down low. hard on the ground to first and he takes it himself for the out. Now batting left fielder Cooper Hmel. Now the left fielder Cooper Hmel. [Music] That one finds the zone. It’s 0 and one. One’s the count. Next offering is fouled back. [Music] One down. Base is empty. Pitch misses outside. One and two to count. Swinging a drive deep right field. That’s back there. Holds it in on the warning track. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He saved extra bases for sure. The pitcher’s his friend. He’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. Two out. Space is empty. Now a chance for Zack Short. Here’s a rip to Short, but he’s there for the third out. Nothing doing there for Houston, but they’re still on top seven to two. Now pitching Steven gets handed the rock out of the pen. Southpaw’s been really good against left-handed hitters. [Applause] Now the number two hitter, James Woodiel. This kid picked up in a trade. A lot was offered and given to get him, but he’s got a real high ceiling. And the first pitch misses for ball one. [Applause] And that one fouled off. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] That one the other way. Short sends it across to first and the leadoff man retired here in the ninth. Now batting second baseman Luis Garcia. So up next, Luis Garcia. [Applause] Breaking ball misses down and away. Activity in the bullpen. Luis Contreras up and loosening in the pen. Or warming up as well. [Applause] One down. Base is empty. Got it started a little too early. Strike one. One ball. One strike. The one-1 is fouled off. [Music] [Applause] Fouls that off to the left and will do it again. [Applause] And Eric Summersgill punches him out. That’s a strike out. So it’s their last chance in this one. And now the DH Josh Bell fouled off left side. [Applause] He swings and fouls one off. [Applause] Ochre is just one strike away. Going to count one and two. I don’t think he was trying to miss by that much in an 02 count. Just tried to overthrow that [Applause] Almost got him. Two strikes on the ground and this should do it. Steps on the leg himself. Ball game. Whether you’re a season ticket holder or you just come to a couple of games a year to see your team win at home, there’s just something special about that. Good job by this team to get it done for the hometown fans. 72 your final here today for Chris Singleton and our entire crew. I’m John Shambi saying so long. [Music]
