MLB LIVE🔴 Detroit Tigers vs Arizona Diamondbacks – Jul 30, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
Welcome to the Motor City. This is Kame Park MLB. The show has inner league action for you this afternoon. It’s the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Detroit Tigers. And now, please welcome your first pitch coming your way next, Detroit Tigers. So, almost ready to get underway and towing the slab here, Jack Flareity. What do you have on him, Chris? Well, no doubt about it. He’s going to have to put together some consistently good performances in order to bring that ERA down. Now, he’s got good stuff. He’s just got to be able to have confidence, trust it, and really go after hitters, not nibble, trust that his stuff can have late life in misre. Now it’s the right fielder, Corbin Carroll. [Applause] Right down the shoot and away we go this afternoon. [Applause] That’s a little high. And now it’s even one and one. This one chopped on the ground but foul. And it’s even up. keeps the bat going with a foul ball. the wind and the pitch. Three, two. He’s great hitting the ball the other way and that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit. Mission accomplished. and misses. It’s a strike out. You know, varying speeds can be just as useful for a pitcher as movement. As you see right there, it really wasn’t a great location, but the fact that the velocity change had the hitter off balance, and that’s all you got to do sometimes. Catel Marte in the box with one away as he takes ball one. One out. Base is empty. And that’s in for a strike. That one misses. Ball two. Two. [Applause] and downstairs. These first two hitters really making him work out there. Already 14 pitches this inning. Back to work. 3-2 now. 10 swing and a ball popped up. McKin Street calls it in and there’s two away. Let’s take a look at our lineup. One guy leading the way offensively for this club right now, Adrien Del Castillo. Tops on the team in batting average, Boo. a guy who’s showing off some excellent bat-to ball ability when he digs in at the plate. You know, that’s useful if your team needs to get an inning going, get a leadoff man on, but it’s also incredible to have a guy like that in the lineup because he’s a run producer who can drive in runs if you got guys on base already. So, he’s a huge piece in this lineup. Peraldo Pomo stands in now and watches strike one. [Applause] Hey, two count both pitches on the inside part of the plate. Hitter is thinking, I don’t want to get beat here. This is a good time for something off speed away. Two out. Space is empty. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Next offering is downstairs. See if you can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading the count one, two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt. Swing and a ground ball base hit right field and that keeps the inning alive. Good two strike hitting right there, Boo. A bit of a lost start for some. So that was nicely done to beat the odds. He kind of rolled over on this pitch a little bit, but he got enough behind it to shoot it through for a knock. And you’ll take that anytime you can get him to find a hole. Hey, Uennio Suarez up to hit now. Peromo leads off first with two down to the inning. Yeah, a big swing and a miss. No balls, two strikes. [Applause] Fouled off the plate. They’ll do it again. Let’s go. Gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. This one in the air center field. Meadows under it. Drops into the glove and that’ll do it. One left for the Diamondbacks. And now the Tigers get their first opportunity. No score. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Back here in Detroit. And on the mound here today, Zack Gallon. What do you got on him, Chris? Well, he’s been a very dependable starter for his club. And what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him. And it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball. Maybe it’s the release point, maybe it’s the motion, but just some way, somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side. Next pitch is downstairs. [Applause] That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. [Music] That misses the zone. And that’s ball two. cuts out it and misses. That’s a strike out. Some high cheese for strike three. Felt pitchers have become so much better at commanding that high fast. It used to be that a lot of pitchers didn’t like to throw it because it throw off their release point and their mechanics and they’re aimed at keeping everything at the knees, get ground balls. But because hitters get a swing path that can lift balls at the knees up in the air and over the fence, this pitch has come back into play and they are doing some special things with it. Clayber Torres, the next to hit, takes outside. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. So, a man aboard now with one away. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Wasn’t able to elevate that one, but he sure hit it hard enough to get through the infield. There’s not a whole lot of time for the defenders to react and try to make a play when it’s ripped like that. Runner on at first with one gone. And up next for Detroit, Carrie Carpenter. Now, this is in the air down the line. Carol puts it away for the owl. Two down. batting for left fieldielder. And now the Tigers line up for manager AJ Hinch. Someone who makes things happen for them in part with his legs. Parker Meadows. Well, Boo, there aren’t many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does. I mean, batting over 400 with runners in scoring position. Are you kidding me? I I know it’s not guaranteed or an automatic, but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not. Riley Green in the box now. No balls in a strike. It’s amazing to look up and see 88 miles per hour on that change up. Back in the day, that was a pretty good fast ball, but with high velocities these days, that speed differential is right where it needs to be. And a swing and a miss. One ball, two strikes. And that’s a fair ball. And he boots it. And he’ll pull into second with two gone. Fifth. First baseman Spencer. So two out with two away. And now the first baseman Spencer Torqulson swing and a ball drilled in the air towards right center field. Makes the grab and that will end the inning. Tigers strand a pair scoreless after one back at Park all set for the start of the inning. And now the DH Adrien Del Castillo. Flare back to work in the air. Left field down the line. Lunges but can’t make the catch. [Music] Batting six, left fieldielder digging in. It’s the speedy outfielder Jake McCarthy. And the first pitch misses for ball one. It’s no surprise they call this batter a day player. He statistically performs better in these games. And he’s hoping for a big performance in this one. Del Castillo aboard here at first with nobody out. These two offenses can put up runs in a hurry. That clips a corner. Gary Simmons has the plate duty in this one. Well, with Simmons, it’s not always your standard strike zone. Boog. It kind of gives a little extra in some parts of the zone and then can be tighter in others. But I think the important thing is he doesn’t get labeled as inconsistent. So, you got to stay ready up there. Squirts away a little bit. Yeah. One of those umpires you just have to know what to expect, right? Exactly. The kick and the pitch. Runner goes and a foul ball. Fights it off. You’ll see another this one in the dirt. Second inning here. No score. and ball four to a board. He’s making things difficult for himself right now out there on the mound, but you know, his confidence should still be high enough to get out of this, but he’s going to have to buckle down right here. Here is James McCann. That’s in there. Going along. [Applause] That one is absolutely belted. Should be extra bases. Runner around third on his way to the plate. He will score and the Diamondbacks take the lead. The second run scores. It’s two zip. Gets the job done as he brings home a pair. Man, that feels so good to shoot an absolute bolt the opposite way. Split the gap and know that you’ve got extra bases right off the bat. That’s the kind of thing hitters dream about when they’re falling asleep at night. Alec Thomas now and that misses and that is ball one. Nobody out with a pair of runs across in the frame here in the top of the second. Fouls one off out of play back to our left. [Applause] inside and the count is two and two. [Applause] Right side collected by Torres. Tosses to first. Finally gets the first out here on the grounder. That’s a good piece of hitting right there. It’s early, but you still want to move the runner up and give your team a chance to score. That’s exactly what happened. So, you better believe your teammates are happy with you after that at bat. Tristan English in the box here lets that one go for a ball [Applause] and he pumps it a strike. [Applause] Now one missed. This is a situation where the hitter is looking for something up in the zone that he can get his arms extended. What you have to be careful of is that pitch that’s up that’s in on your hands. That’ll pop you up in the infield and that’s exactly what the pitcher wants. That one fouled off. Two and two. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. [Applause] Got him looking. Went back to the fast and it was effective. So the lineup flips over. This is Corbin Carroll. He’s 0 for one. And this is a big opportunity for him to pick up his teammate right here. And that’s outside. [Applause] fast for a strike. Well, I know they’ve gotten out to an early lead, but you don’t want to take these opportunities for granted with two outs. Still lock in with a quality at bat. Drive in that run. You may not have another runner in scoring position the rest of this ball game. And that one ripped to left and foul ball. Two outs and one in scoring position inside. Almost got him. Three balls, two strikes. Catel Marte waiting to hit for the Dbacks. Two outs. Got him. They limit the damage here. But they’ll pick up a couple runs here. Both coming on this two-run double and it’s two zip. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Ready to go for the last half of the inning. Now at the plate, Zack Mckenry. Zack McKinstry. That’s a strike, man. I mean, nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was. Next offering in there for a strike. And it’s 0 and two. And that’s downstairs and outside. One ball, two strikes to count. Swigs through that one. It’s a strike out. Man, that looked like a pretty good swing and I was waiting for him to get hammered somewhere. I mean, breaking ball, but he just somehow missed it. Timing looked solid and his balance was there. He wasn’t out on the front foot. Great pitch to hit, but just came up with nothing but air. So, tell you what, that’s not a good feeling at all. Dylan Dingler, the next to hit, takes ball one. Yeah, there’s a ball [Applause] in today’s game. Not that many fast ball counts, but hitters still in the back of their minds, they’re looking for one. Two change up call right there. Excellent pitch selection to go with. Comes up empty. That’s strike two. Two two in the count. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. Oh, that’s a curve ball that people like to describe as a hammer or Uncle Charlie. You can see why. It’s not a looping slow curve. He throws it hard and it gets plenty of bite on the end. And first off is fouled off. Parker swing and a miss. He was late. Strike two. Just threw that fast ball by him. Elevated. And if you’re not looking up in that location, very difficult to catch fans. Another and that’s three straight strikeouts. So they make short work of them there. We head on down to the top of the third. It’s the Diamondbacks two and the Tigers nothing. New inning getting started. Marte up to the plate. Singing he’s a guy that covers both sides of the plate about as well as anyone in the sport. How difficult is that to do? Well, just look at the back of my bubblegum card. You’ll see how hard it is. These guys are great, man. They have the ability to look out there, but also to be able to turn on the inside pitch. Those that can really sharpen things on the outer half, those are the ones that become elite. And that one is lifted in the air. Carpenter makes the grab. One down. Now batting short. Next hit for Arizona. Heraldo Peromo. One for one with a single so far. Let’s go. That one finds the zone and that is strike one. And that one fouled off. One down. Base is empty. on the ground to third. Sends it across to first and there’s two down. Now batting third baseman Au Haneo Suarez. Two outs. Base is empty. Here’s the cleanup hitter for the Diamondbacks. Au Heno Suarez. Fly to center. His first time. He’s 0 for one. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. one and one and0 Chris through the early stages he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count he’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game it is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now doesn’t even matter that much if your starter doesn’t go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens [Music] tosses across to first that ends the frame three up three down for him there we head nav Out of the home half of inning number three, it’s the Diamondbacks two and the Tigers nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Now it’s Javier Bayz, Javier Bayz. And a foul ball. Foul ball there. Making four strikeouts in a row. Just cruising along. Well, take a look at the three pitch sequence here. Pretty simple in terms of putting them away at the plate. Once you’re ahead 02 as a pitcher, you can really expand the zone and see how aggressive that hitter is going to be trying to protect and battle. And right there, clearly he was in swing mode, but all you can do is hope to foul that off. Back to the top of the Detroit order. Next to hit, Colt Keith missed with a change up. Ball one. That clips the corner. One and one. That one misses and it’s two and one. just missed. Really good take especially with two strikes. Swanging a popup for Domo on the move and there’s two down now. batting second baseman Glaver Torres. Two down, base is empty. Here’s Glaver Torres. Fast ball for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Impressed that he went right after him on that first pitch. That’s the key. Try to get ahead in the count. Then you can play around a little bit more as the at bat expands. And a strike to Glaver. More and more guys are looking to slug regardless of the count. And this situation will keep a close eye on his approach. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Two down. Nobody on. And a swing and a miss. Down on strikes and the Tigers retired. One, two, three. Tigers are shut down there. They trail things here. Two nothing. And we’re back. John Shami with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, Adrien Del Castillo. Come on, Detroit. That one outside. Ball one. Inside corner and that’s called a strike. swings through that one. One ball, two strike. popped up to the left into foul ground. Squeezes it and there’s one down. Now batting left fielder Jake McCarthy. Jake McCarthy stands in now for the Diamondbacks. He reached out a walk his first time. If there’s nobody on in front of him, you know, a single for him many times is a double. This guy is off to the races, ready to steal a bag when he’s on first base. There’s the strike. Well, he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there. Couldn’t pull the trigger and perhaps the best pitch he’ll see in this at bat to hit that one. Fouled off. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Base is empty, one away. Top half of inning number four. Ball one. [Music] Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Really love the pitch sequence right there. I’m telling you what, pitcher and catch are on the same page right now. James James McCann in now. Doubled his first time. Come on. On its way to the corner and that will drop foul. Tigers. That clips the zone and it’s nothing and two. [Applause] That’s down and in. Out to short. Throws across the diamond and it’s a one, two, three inning. No runs, no hits, no errors. To the bottom of inning number four now. It’s the Diamondbacks two and the Tigers nothing. Bottom of the inning. And now the right fielder Carrie Carpenter. Carrie Carpenter. [Applause] And immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Well, these Tigers, as this game goes on, have to be more disciplined at the plate. They’re chasing a lot of pitches outside the zone and those chases are turning into a bunch of outs. Can they turn that around and stay within the zone? We’ll see. But I think they have to. Suarez throw to first in time. Lead off hitter retired in the fourth. Riley. Here’s Riley Green. A single his first time. And that drops in for a strike. And that’s a little bit high and the count even one and one. That one missing inside. [Applause] swings here and drives one well left field way back and you can’t forget it. So he lets one out the other way. His 26th of the year and they got their first run. It’s 2-1. That’s a great way to fire up this crowd. They’re feeling it now. [Applause] That’s the exact definition of hitting the ball where it’s pitched. Taking that outside fast ball and driving it the opposite way out of the ballpark. You want to bottle that type of approach. So, one out, nobody on. And next up for the Tigers, Spencer Torqulson. And that’s through there for a strike. 0 and one. One out. Base is empty and a run in. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. [Applause] And that’s ruled a swing. It’s a strike out. Oh, big power guy right there and generating so much bat speed. It’s hard to bring that to a halt once you’ve committed. They tried to check the swing, just couldn’t do it. [Applause] McKinstry in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike outside. That’s a ball. [Applause] Swing and a miss and a count. One and two. One ball, two strikes. Cut on and missed. And it’s a strikeout. And that is the inning. But not before they’re able to draw closer with this blast. And this is now a 2-1 ball game. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. Back here in Detroit, ready now for the fifth inning. Here’s the center fielder, Alec Thomas. Flareity back to work and that is out of play. That misses and that’s ball one. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Reese Olsen getting loose for AJ Hinch. Melton also getting ready. That’s outside and a count. Two and one. Just missed. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. Fast ball for a strike. Swing and a highf fly ball left field. Green makes the catch and there’s one down. Now batting first baseman Tristan English. And here’s the first baseman Tristan English. 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. There’s the strike. Oh, one’s the count. [Music] Highf fly ball out to center field. Meadows makes the grab. Two down. Now, so the batting order turns over. Now it’s the right fielder, Corbin Carroll. Singing. You got to appreciate a guy who’s this good defensively. I mean, watching him track balls in the outfield, it is beautiful. Check swing went around and that’s strike one. So, how much does his speed factor into his ability to go get it? It’s heartbreaking for the hitter because off the bat he thinks this ball’s gonna get down because of that speed and the ability to make up so much ground. He enters the picture and breaks a guy’s heart right through there for a strike. There’s one guy that I can think about Boog who started as a third baseman, Alex Gordon, and then became an elite perennial gold glover out in left field for the Kansas City Royals. And it stays fair. makes the turn and heads for second. And that’s a twobagger. Well, here we are. Third time through the order. And this is where we see the OPS jump up. Manager might have to go to the bullpen a little bit sooner than he anticipated. So, runner at second, two down. Here’s Catel Marte. Slides for the stop to first. Nicely done for the hour. No runs, one hit, no errors, and a man left. Home half of the fifth. Coming up, it’s the Diamondbacks two and the Tigers won. We head to the bottom of the fifth and here’s the catcher, Dylan Dingler. Dingler. [Applause] ripped but a curls foul [Applause] on the corner for a strike. Swings through it and that’s a strike out. Well, he’s on a great run of strikeouts and showing excellent control and command, not walking opposing batters. You know, this offense, they’ve got to find a way to break his rhythm. Put the bat on the ball, maybe try to bunt for a base hit, get him off the mound, moving around, step out, something to interrupt his timing because he’s coming right after these guys. Meadows swings through that one. She comes to the plate for the second time today. The offense needs to start showing some fight against this starter. He’s doing his thing out there. They’re going to have to push back at some point and make him work a little bit harder. Ball one there. [Applause] Ball two. Two. Swing and a pop off in foul ground near the fence and that drops foul. Good eye in that spot. Foul ball and it remains a full cow. One down, base is empty. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And that K brings him into double digits for the game. Pretty electric stuff showing up on the mound right now. I mean, in double digit strikeouts. He should be able to rack up some more before he’s done in this one. And know many of these hitters have had much of an answer for what he’s offering out there. Bayz stands in with two away as he takes a ball. Swing and a ball hammered left field and it’s out of here into the homeful pen for a homer. He’ll touch them all. His 11th of the year and we are starting over. It’s 2-2. That’s a game changer right there. A big time swing and we’re all tied up. [Applause] Well, he put a really nice swing on that one and everything was on time. Took a direct path to the ball. Excellent extension and just drove it out of here. Nothing better than when the ball jumps off your bat like that. Now Colt Heat both for two in this one. lifted in the air left field. Pretty well struck and puts the squeeze on that one. And that ends the but tied up thanks to this solo homer. Two- two game. We’re back and they make a change to start the sixth. the new pitcher Reese Mul and compared to a lot of other relievers, strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year. So, the defense should be active. Heraldo Peron stands in now for the Diamondbacks. One for two. First offering misses badly for ball one. Action in the pen down there. Brandt Herder, the young lefty, looks to be getting himself ready. Pton getting cranked up as well. Swings and pulls a foul to the right side. That’s ripped. Base hit. So, a man on base to start the inning. [Music] Solid swing from start to end. On time with everything. Really good balance. Nice extension. And he met it out front for the line drive knock. Go ahead run on base. Aueno Suarez up to the plate now. Check swing. He went too far and it’s a strike. Oh, and one [Applause] tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. [Applause] Foul ball still 0 and two with a go ahead run at first and we’re the top half of the six. Got him swinging. Next is the designated hitter Adrien Del Castillo Castillo. Definitely wants to stay out of the double play here. Ball on the ground in the infield. Should be an inning ending double play. Fast ball is outside [Applause] and that one missing low. Oh, he’s really working him away this at bat. Sometimes take a little bit off velocity. Try to get a roll over something on the ground. Stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield. That one the other way and a base hit right there. The throw to third. Save and the go ahead runs at third. But when you fall behind in the count, you’ve got to come in in the zone and then guys have a better chance of hitting the ball hard like he did right there. Runners at the corners here. One away. Jake McCarthy stands in now for the Diamondbacks. Swinging a foul out of play. Well, all eyes on the double play ball in this spot. No better way to get out of this inning. Double play ball to second. There’s one over the first save. Now that is catcher James McN. I promise you they’re guys that get a little bit faster when they can smell an RBI. That was a possible inning ending double play. Great hustle and he gets rewarded with the RBI because of it. And now the catcher comes up to him, James McCann. He’s been a great free agent side. And that gets the inside corner for a strike. [Applause] Throw over to first. McCarthy back on a dive. [Applause] check swing and he went. No balls, two strikes. No balls, two strikes. McCarthy the runner at first with two gone. One ball, two strike. [Applause] Fights that one away. Still one and two. [Applause] on the ground out to short. Whips it across. Third out, one run, a pair of hits, no errors, and one left on. 23, four, two up in the home half of the sixth. It’s the Diamondbacks three, Tigers two. Well, we go bottom six. Now the number two hitter Torres. Glber Torres. [Applause] First offering and it just misses. Swings through that one for strike one. I got one ball, one strike. [Applause] Now a screamer into the outfield into the corner but foul and a one two and that skips into center field. Thomas settles under, hauls it in, and there’s one away. Now batting the right fielder, Carrie Carpenter. Carrie Carpenter up now for the Tigers. First pitch and he just misses. And another ball. The Tigers trailing by a run here in the bottom of the six. Swings here and blasts one left field. McCarthy going back on it. And it’s into the movement for a homer. His 17th of the year. And this game is tied. It’s 33. This crowd is on fire right now. They’re going nuts thanks to that home run. Elevated fast balls, especially away, are like putting the ball on a tea. Hitters do a lot of cage work. They’re comfortable hitting off the TE’s. And he was comfortable right there hitting that ball opposite field for a home run. So, it’s all tied up thanks to the home run. Riley Green up now for the Tigers. Check swing. No appeal. [Applause] Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. Activity in the Arizona bullpen. John Curtis up and throwing. DFani also throwing two and that one fouled off. [Applause] Next offering down low and in the dirt. A rare three ball count here. He’s been throwing strikes all day. Got to be ready to hit if you’re in the box. Swing and a ball driven pretty well out towards left center. Makes the catch for the out and there are two outs. Now batting the first baseman Spencer Torlson. Spencer Torlson up now for the Tigers. [Applause] First pitch doesn’t find the zone. You can expect this hitter to be looking for something on a TE. He can get up in the air and untie this ball game. That one ripped but foul. [Applause] Basketball for a strike. [Music] Off the mark there. Now two and two. Swinging a miss. That one in the dirt. Up with it. Fires to first. Not in time. He beats it out and keeps the inning alive. Now that So he’s able to reach first base despite the strike out and that extends the inning. Kind of a tough turn of events for the defense there. Yeah, that’s maybe a little bit of a morale killer for a second. You think you’re about to go hit, but really quickly you have to refocus and be ready for the next play. We’ll see if they can work around it. Man at first. Zack McKinstry up now for the Tigers. That misses the zone and that’s ball one. Yeah, that’s outside. Struggled a little bit in this one. Couple of strikeouts earlier, but doing a much better job in this at bat to get ahead and find a good hitter count at 2 and 0. [Applause] out to center. Thomas under this one. He’s got it. And that is that one scores in the inning. Coming on this solo home run. We’re tied now at three apiece. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. We go to the top of the seventh. And now the center fielder, Alec Thomas. That’s off the mark and it’s one and0. [Music] Ripped in the air left field and a touchdown for a base hit. So the go-ahead run is on base with a knock. [Music] And now the first baseman, Tristan English, [Applause] just missed. Pitch misses and a count is 2 and0. good spot there, but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone. [Applause] That’s off the inside corner and that’s ball three. This is a really good feeling for a hitter at this point in the ball game. You know that they don’t want to walk you. So, you’re going to get a pitch to hit. You just better not miss it. and he walked him on four pitches. And with two outs, the go-ahead run is at second base. Oh, now he’s got two runners on after that walk. And things can get out of hand in a hurry in these situations. So, he’s going to have to find a way to get back into the strike zone. [Applause] Carol up to bat next. Lays off for a ball. Counts one and0. [Applause] [Music] Slice the other way and foul. Go ahead run at second here. the top half of inning number seven. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. Thomas rounds third headed for the plate. He scores and they have the lead. Well done. Drives in the run. Got the top of the ball a little bit but not much. That was hit pretty far through the infield. So I think he’ll be happy with that swing. Definitely generated some good bat speed. Here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen. Reese Olsen is done and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. Now pitching Luke Jackson will take over here. He has a great slider with tons of movement. Jackson. First and second, no outs. Now up next for Arizona, Catel Marte 0 for three in this one. If you don’t get ahead in the count, you can forget about having any success against him. [Applause] fast pull for a strike. Some hitters are just more confident if they can track that first pitch out of the hand of the pitcher. They don’t care if they fall behind 01. [Applause] One ball, two in the dirt. No advance. Good job behind the dish. English the lead runner at second. Carol at first with no outs. The other ways it in and there’s one away. short stop. [Applause] Heraldo Peromo digs in now. The last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground, but I wouldn’t expect many pitches up in the zone. They’ll be pitching for a double play in this spot. There’s the strike. 95 of that one. Well, in this situation with runners on, you got to get ahead in the count so that you can dictate the rest of the at bat. Nice job right there. Two on, one out. Dangerous spot for that slider right there. Didn’t seem to quite finish out front and get that sharp break. Tell you what, he doesn’t want to throw that pitch again. The O2. That’s a ball. Pretty standard high 02 fast ball right there. If you’re smart, you’ll look for something down in the zone, but not too far. Don’t want to chase that breaking ball in the dirt. The short stop takes the ball. [Applause] Next pitch is outside. And that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. Au Heno Suarez on deck for Arizona. [Applause] Ah, ground ball and that’s through the infield. Runner around third. Here comes the throw. He’s safe. 53 now. Well, there you go. The RBI machine. Another clutch run. Scoring it back. Yeah, he’s been so good in these situations. Call it clutch if you want, but his resume speaks for itself. Two on, one out. Here’s the third baseman, Au Heno Suarez, 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. In there for a strike at the top of the zone. [Applause] Hit in the air center field. Meadows gets under it. Brings it in. Runner tags from third. He’s in to score on the sack fly. It’s six to three. They had a chance to add to their lead right there and they did with the sack fly. nice job of getting it done. Really good execution with that at bat. Now it’s the DH Adrien Del Castillo. [Applause] First pitch misses. [Applause] And that’s ripped into left. Base hit. Green hurries it back in. Runner puts on the brakes at second. So it’s first and second with two out. He was all over that one. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. Didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep. took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. And here is Jake McCarthy fouled off. He was late. [Applause] That one ripped. banks off the wall. One run is in. Coming home. The relay. Not in time. He scores. And it’s 83. Everything came together for him. He hit that ball really well to deep right field right there. Got a pitch to drive and just stayed through it nicely. Didn’t quite have the trajectory to clear the fence, but you’re always happy with an extra base hit. Here comes the skipper and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Luke Jackson out of the game and he’s responsible for the runner on second. So, the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. Now, pitching. So, the Tigers get a new arm from the pen. Troy Melton. And with the big deficit on the scoreboard, he almost has to just put that out of his mind. Every outing matters for relievers in their numbers. But I think it’s tough to get up for this type of appearance the same way you would for one in a close game. So runner at second, two down. Here’s the catcher, James McCann. Misses off the plate. One and0. Rudder at second. Two down. [Applause] Swings through that one out in front that time. Got a ball. One strike. [Applause] Swing and a miss. One ball, two strikes. [Applause] And he hits a ground ball right side and it goes just fouled. [Applause] Man on second, two down. And that’s off the inside edge. And the count now even up. [Applause] And a foul ball. He stays alive and it remains two and two. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. [Applause] Now it’s three and two. Just not taking the bait right there. But a good pitch with two strikes. [Applause] Goes down looking. But nine batters hit in the inning. Five come around to score. Midway in inning number seven. And it’s time to stretch. It’s the Diamondbacks eight and the Tigers three. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Jake Woodford. Don’t expect to see a whole lot of swings and misses, but he’s going to compete out there on the mound. Jake Woodford. Dylan Dingler now for the Tigers. Three pitch strikeout last time up. Got to put up more of a fight in this one. And that’s downstairs. And that is ball one. And a curve drops in for a strike. In this situation, you expect the batters to be a little more patient, possibly take until they get a strike. with that. You don’t want to miss your opportunity to get ahead early in the count. He didn’t right there. That one missed. One strike. Fouls. One off. Two and two. This one high in the air to left center. McCarthy hauls it in for the out. Now batting center field. Parker Meadow now for the Tigers who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. Tiger, you can do it. check swing and he went 0 and one. One’s the count. Swinging a foul straight back. And ball one, two strikes. That one just misses. [Music] And that’s down and away. [Applause] Battling here as he fouls it away. draws the walk there. That’s a great at bat. He saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk. Well, that’s a nice job of grinding out that at bat. Saw a lot of pitches and ends up drawing the wall. Very gritty. One gone runner at first. Bobby Bayz digs in right side. He’s already homerred here in this one. Foul ball. Meadows the base runner at first with one out. They say it went 02 is the count. The shorts stop takes the ball. rips one to right. Fair ball coming home. Head first slide and he’s safe and it’s 84. Comes through with the RBI. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. Colt Heat up now for the Tigers. [Applause] That one pushed to the left and fouled. One out and a runner at second near the bottom of the seventh. Yeah, there’s a ball. One and one. Outside corner. There’s a strike back door with a breaking ball. Just got the corner. There’s nothing you can really do with that. This one smoked. Could be trouble. Here comes Bayz around third. He’ll score. Well, that gets him a little closer in this one. Nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line. You know, hitters, they take so many reps in the cages, working on going to the opposite field, and it doesn’t always translate into the game, but right there it did. And he did it perfectly. Now, a huge bat in this game coming up. Now, the Diamondbacks manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. Jake Woodford departs. It’s a three-run game, and we’ll be back to tell you about the new arm in a minute. Now, pitching for a new pitcher in the game, John Curtis. John Curtis. Glabber Torres up to the plate. one for three [Applause] and he was nowhere near that one for strike one. [Applause] There’s a swing and a drive. McCarthy on the move. Can’t get there. This one lands foul man at second. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2. Goes down swinging for the strike out. The high heat too much on that one. Came inside with that two-stroke fast nicely and just bunched him up on the inside part of the plate. couldn’t get around on it and catch it out front. Many times if you do, it’s a foul ball. And you know, a lot of pitchers, they really don’t like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter. And when they’ve got him up against the ropes, got to figure out a way to put him away. And there’s a fly ball deep right field. Long gone. Another homer. His second home run of the game. It’s 8-7. That’s their fourth home run of the game. They can’t stop and they won’t stop hitting home runs in this one. Boo. They’re clearly feeding off of each other at the dish. Power versus power right there. Like two locomotives colliding. Who’s going to win? But a really good job there by the hitter getting the top hand working. How is that fast ball out of here? And now Riley Green in the air to left center. And that is that. So, it’s four runs for him on three hits, including the home run. No errors and nobody left on. Eighth inning coming up. It’s the Diamondbacks eight and the Tigers seven. And welcome back to the ballpark. We’re in the top of the eighth. Here’s the center fielder, Alec Thomas. Two of the most potent offenses in the game squaring off. It’s getting squeezed a little bit here late. Melton in his rookie season. He features a fourseam fast ball, a slider, a change up, and he works in a two seamer. Next offering is down low. line drive, makes the grab. One away. It’s never fun going back to the dugout after hitting a line drive that finds a glove. But you will get some high fives. You know, when you make great contact, you feel like you’ve done everything right. But in this game of baseball, not everything is in your control. English and now takes ball one off the plate. If you’re the pitcher, you’ve got to go right at this guy. It’s the number nine hitter in the lineup. You can’t be afraid of contact in this situation. Base is empty, one away, and we’re in the top of the eighth. Here’s a one, two swing and a miss. Struck him out. Slider got him for strike three. That’s that classic wipe out Slider below the zone right there. just nasty. Looks like a fast ball thigh high that you got to protect the zone and then it’s just that late break that fools you and kind of makes you look silly. Carol at the plate now as he chases after that one. Well, you know, this guy wants a pitch up, something that he can hit hard and drive over the wall, but you’ve got to set your sights down a little bit. You can’t lose your discipline and go after a pitch that you just can’t do anything with. Let’s go. Man, this has been a real important inning in relief. I mean, so far they’ve been doing a great job holding that deficit at one. And a swing and a miss and he’s registered three Ks in this one. So, no runs, no hits, no errors, and no one left. Last half of the eighth coming up, it’s the Diamondbacks eight and the Tigers seven. So out of the pen for the Diamondbacks, Anthony Dlafani, and he’s been racking up strikeouts at a high rate this year. Typically at least one an inning, so he’ll be tough to get to. Well, one-run game. And here is Spencer Torqulson 0 for three with two strikeouts and a fly out. [Applause] Fast ball for a strike at 95. Movement in the bullpen. Kevin Ginkle, the closer, is getting ready and perhaps looking at a long save opportunity here. Number 43, the lefty warming up as well. Swinging a miss. And it’s 0 and two. Ball one there. They tried to get him to go chase the pitch down and away, but he wouldn’t bite. Down to the dirt, swinging a miss. McCann fires to first in time to get him. One away in the strikeout. Pretty big strikeout right there to start the same inning. Down one, any lead off base runner really makes this inning a bit more interesting. But now this offense has to switch from possibly trying to manufacture a run to needing to run into something or just try to string multiple hits together to get a run across the plate. Yeah, the batter now, Zack McKinstre Immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. holding on to a one-run lead here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. Next offering is in for a strike. That’s a little bit low. [Applause] bows it off. Still one and two. Looking to get the tying run on base. Swing and a miss. Curve ball in the dirt. McCann fires the first. Two away now after the drop third strike. Very strong coming out of the pin so far as he punches out the first two batters he’s faced in this one. Getting straight to work. Man, it’s talked about a lot, but relievers are just so electric these days. These aren’t fun at bats if you’re a hitter. And I’m so glad I’m retired. Next to hit, Dylan Dean. Left field way back there onto the track and he makes the catch. [Applause] We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound. Should be a good first match up for him here. He’s been doing a great job against right-handed bats so far this season. They’ve had a lot of trouble squaring him up. An outstanding hitter in Catel Mart. Catel Marte [Applause] and that finds the mark on the outside corner and it’s 0 and one activity in the bullpen. Chase Lee getting loose for AJ Hinch. Holton a left-hander also throwing. [Applause] Next offering is fouled back. Swings and misses. Strike him out. He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. Clearly, he had him. Now, it’s the short stop. Peraldo Peromo. The shorts stop takes a ball. [Applause] That one drifts inside. just missed. One-run game here in the top of the ninth. Strike one. [Applause] Slice to right. Carpenter makes the catch. Two down. Two out. Base is empty. Next up for the Diamondbacks, Au Heno Suarez. [Applause] And first off is fouled off. [Applause] Two outs. Check swing called str on the ground to third. Gets it to first. And that is that. Nothing doing for the offense that time. 891 do up in the bottom of inning number nine. It’s the Diamondbacks eight and the Tigers seven. We’re back and on the mound is the closer Kevin Ginkle. These are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves. Late and close. There’s not much margin for error, but at the same time, there’s a reason they’re put in these situations. One- run game. And now the center fielder, Parker Meadows. a walk and a pair of strikeouts and the first offering a fast ball for a strike. Try to keep good speed off the bases. Misses inside and it’s one and one. Boo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. With that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. Yeah. Now two balls in the strike. Late swing fouled to the left. [Applause] One-run game. Bottom nine. That’s ripped into the outfield. pulls it down and he makes the catch. One away. Off the bat it looked like they might get that tying run on base. Maybe even extra bases. No dice though. A little unlucky on that one. He’s two outs away. And now it’s Bayz. He’s already homered in this game. Fast in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Just amazing to me how many closers and backend relievers just throw absolute gas these days. I never would have had a chance. Right through there for a strike. He doesn’t seem to like to pitch up. Hasn’t offered on either one of those pitches. 02 count now. I think the guy’s going to climb the ladder out there. [Applause] Swings and misses. Struck him out. Now only one out remaining. Well, that bat seemed to be over as soon as it started. Three pitch strike out. You’ve got to be better at the plate right there at least to foul something off. extend that at bat. So, last chance for the Tigers. Colt Keith up now for the Tigers. That one finds the corner. Strike one. Two down to and that’s in for a strike. Oh, and two now. Ginkle is just one strike away. Going to count one and two. [Applause] And that’s downstairs and outside. That turns out to be a really good take right there, but you don’t want to end this game with the bat on your shoulder. A oneun lead and the home team trying to pull it out. [Applause] Swing and a miss. Struck him out and that is the ball game. We saw both teams come ready to swing it in this one and they found a lot of success. Couple of touchdowns up on the board today. Pretty amazing and it turned out to be a close one considering all the runs put up. Really wild and a final 8-7 for Chris Singleton and our entire crew. I’m John Shambi saying so long. Heat. Heat.
