MLB LIVE🔴 St. Louis Cardinals vs Miami Marlins – Jul 30, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

just about set to go. And today’s starter, Michael McGrevy. And Singi, we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. Well, that whip is just below the league average, and that’s a good thing in this case, not allowing too many base runners. So on most days he’s going to go out there and compete and put his team in a position to win. And I expect to see that from him in this one today. And now it’s the switch hitting second baseman. Xavier Edwards line drive. Walker pulls it in and there’s one away. And time now for the Marlins lineup. They do a lot of things well in this offense. Singi. They control the strike zone. They make pitchers work hard for outs. and as a result, one of the better OBP teams in the league. Well, what I love about it is it’s an organizational philosophy. Whether you go to instructional league, whether you go to spring training, you see these players even during batting practice when it doesn’t matter. They’re practicing that type of approach. Boo. And when you have that filtering through the organization, even when you call off a player, they step right in and continue with the pattern that they have established at this level, which ultimately leads to a lot of success. sliced hard but foul. You know, you translate on base percentage, it’s basically this. Teams that have a high on base percentage, they don’t make outs at a very high rate. As my buddy Joe Sheen says, OBP is life. Buyers across the diamond. Quick start here this evening. Two out. Top of the first. Hey man, four pitches, two outs. That is an excellent pace. Two outs. Base is empty. Here’s the catcher, Augustine Ramirez. He’s got pop, which is a little sneaky because he’s so comfortable with taking his base hits to the opposite field, but he can jump you if you make a mistake. And that one upstairs, ball one and fires in a fast ball at 95. Looks like he’s just sizing him up there. Really good pitch to hit, but he took it all the way. Sometimes guys just want to set their timing later on in the game. That may be a pitch that he turns on in the air to left center. Scott sizing this one up. And that is that. No score as we head to the bottom of the first back here in St. Louis. And our pitcher tonight, Yuri Perez. How about a scouting report on him? Well, he’s been a very dependable starter for his club. And what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him. And it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball. Maybe it’s the release point, maybe it’s the motion, but just some way somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side. And a one and another ball. That was absolute gas. Triple digits on the gun. It’s just a different experience as a hitter watching that go by. That clips a corner. That misses three and one. And there’s a foul ball. Three and two now. cuts on it and misses. That’s a strikeout. Throw to first and he’ll be safe at first hitter. Ivon Herrera. And now it’s Ivon Herrera. And there’s the strike. Perez, a righty that throws with power. He features a fourseam fast ball, a slider, a curve, and he works in a change up. Nobody out. Runner at first. Swing and a tapper that rolls foul. fights that one away and the count remains 0 and two. Come on, let’s go. Goes down swinging for the strike out. Chase the fast up the ladder for strike three. Now the left fielder Alec Burlson just missed. One runner takes off. Swing and a miss. throw to second and he’s out. Well, I think that was a hit and run right there. When you look at how far that pitch was out of the zone and the hitter still trying to put wood on it, put it in play, that tells you that they had something going. But unfortunately, it was a good job of execution by the pitcher and the catcher to get that out of the zone and then throw out the runner at second base. Really nice job behind the dish. Swinging a ground ball, base hit. That was smoke through the infield and that keeps the inning alive. Here comes Wilson Contrarus. He can do it. He can do it. And that one is in for a strike. Two outs. A two. Perhaps not quite ready to hit. First two pitches by him for a couple of strikes. Now back is against the walls. Going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly. Foul ball still 0 and two. Burlson the runner at first with two gone. Outside low and a count one and two. See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading to count one two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt. And it’s even up two strikes. to the right side, Hicks. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. The Cards leave one scoreless after one back here in St. Louis. Now it’s the right fielder Kyle Stard swing at a highf fly ball well struck. That’s back into the bullpen and gone. And they jump out front. It’s one- nothing. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time in that at bat. Boo. Aggressive and it paid off. It’s like he’s playing whiffle ball up there. And that’s typically not the easiest way to hit a home run to the slight opposite field into the gap. Man, making it look easy, that’s for sure. And at the plate for Miami, Otto Lopez in there at the knees. And that is strike one. Always exciting to see a laid-off home run in an inning. kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning. That one finds the zone. No balls, two strikes. Gary Simmons has the plate duty in this one. Well, with Simmons, it’s not always your standard strike zone. Boog. It kind of gives a little extra in some parts of the zone and then can be tighter in others. But I think the important thing is he doesn’t get labeled as inconsistent. So you got to stay ready up there. Yeah. One of those umpires you just have to know what to expect, right? Exactly. And a foul ball. He stays alive. Well, he hasn’t gotten the result yet, but he’s got to feel pretty confident. Three foul balls in a row. He’s right on this guy. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. I don’t like to say he wasted a pitch. I think that was a purpose pitch. Change the eye level. Have him look up. Now go back exactly where you want to go. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. He battled for a long time, but it finishes with a strike out. You can’t be mad at yourself after an at bat like that one. Boi just ran out of patience there. He took a couple of pitches to even that count up at two balls and two strikes, but that time chased outside the zone. Now it’s the rookie first baseman Liam Hicks. Swing and a ball lifted to center field. Scott makes a nice running catch. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He’s saved extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. Foul ball. Swag a popup foul on a play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Two out. Space is empty. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. And that’s in the dirt. two strikes and now two and two. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. Now he breaks his bat. Donovan in plenty of time to first and that’ll do it. One scores in the inning coming on this solo home run. It’s now one- nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show back here at Bush Stadium. Here’s Nolan Aronado. Nolan Aronado at the plate. Aronado, guy who delivers big time power at the dish and will probably go down as one of the greatest defensive third baseman of all time. And speaking of that defense, it’s hard to imagine that in high school, Aronado shared the left side of the infield with another elite defender, Matt Chapman at El Toro High School in California. Next offering away upstairs. And there’s a ball. Stays alive. Little early on that fast ball. I’m sure the pitcher taking a note. Look for an offspe pitch on this next one. Next offering way off the plate. That one misses. So a lead off walk. Batting six. The short stop. Here’s the short stop at the play. Mason win. down and away from ball one. Maybe losing command a little bit after the walk. Next pitch, not even close. Aronado aboard here at first with nobody out. That’s a ball. He hasn’t wanted to challenge him. Both of those pitches off the plate away. Don’t expect anything down the heart of the plate. You may just have to be patient and take your walk here. Here’s a two on swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. Throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. Oh, just a nice job coming through in a pretty high leverage spot right there. Timing on the swing was good. Able to shoot the ball up the middle. Didn’t square it up as much as he probably would have liked, but that’s a good approach paying off. First and second, no outs. Walker now at the plate. He’s been really clutch with runners in scoring position this season. So, they’ll have to be extra careful in this matchup. The one swing and a miss and he was fooled. He can live up in the zone all game if hitters will chase it. That’s just too much velocity. The hitter’s got to look down in the zone. That one off the mark and it’s two and one. Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. Fast ball in for a strike. It’s two and two. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. Really think the outer half is open. Spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another. No outs. Runners at first and second. And that’s a little high. Swing and a miss. Strike three. That one came in at 99. Man, I really like the ability to bounce back right there after not getting the call. He probably should have gotten you. He didn’t let it affect his focus and he came back with another good pitch to get him swinging. Pedro Pahz next up for the Cardinals. Grounded to third. Could be two. There’s one out. And that’s two. Poetry in motion there as the second baseman turns the double play. Nice throw to first. And that’s the way to end the inning. And we’re back on the third inning. And now for the Marlins. Graham Paulie. McGrevy back to work. And that misses. And that’s ball one. and a swing and a miss there. One ball, two misses. Now two and two really good take especially with two strikes and that’s the swing. It’s a strike out. We’re going to take a look at the pitch sequence of that at bat. And the thing to notice are the pitch locations. Every single one of them on the edges of the strike zone. And as a hitter, that can be pretty frustrating because you don’t expect a pitcher to be able to make quality pitches one after another like that. And so those are tough spots to do damage in a great demonstration of pitch command. And it got him a punch out that time. Now here is Dane Meyers. One out. Base is empty. Next offering is fouled back. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2. had a breaking ball misses outside. Really nice slider right there. Sweeping across the dish, but just couldn’t hang the edge. Foul ball still a one and two count. One down. Base is empty. Battling here as he fouls it away. fouls it off. Still one and two. Lifted in the air right center field. And there’s two away. Now batting second base Xavier Edwards. So the lineup flips over. Now it’s the second baseman. Xavier Edwards 0 for one so far. There’s the strike. Back door him with a breaking ball. Just got the corner. There’s nothing you can really do with that. Not even close there. One ball, one strike. tapped softly on the ground. Fires over to first and that is that. Nothing doing it for the Marlins, but they hold a one- nothing lead. And welcome back to the ballpark. And now here’s a speed threat outfielder Victor Scott. And that skips in the dirt. upstairs. That’s upstairs. And that drops in for a strike. grounds one to short. Lopez sends it across to first. One up, one down. Now batting second base, Brendan Donovan. Back to the leadoff spot in the St. Louis lineup. Here’s the second baseman, Brendan Donovan. Reached on a drop third strike his first time. Downing ball here. Rolls. Foul. Ground ball to the right side. Edwards throws to first. Two up, two down. Up next for the Cardinals, designated hitter, Ivon. Here’s the Cardinal DH. Ivon Herrera went down on strikes his first time through. Ball one, no strikes. Curve ball over for a called strike. Man, this guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. Got it. St. Louis goes down in order. Redbirds down quietly. They’re down one- nothing. Out of the fourth. And now the DH. Jesus Sanchez. L Sanchez fouled off left side. Sanchez 27 years old and he’s usually in the outfield. Today he’s the DH. That’s out to center field. Scott coming in on it. He’s got it. And a quick out number one. Now batting number 50, Augustine Ramirez, the next up for the Marlins. Fly to center his first time in for a strike and it’s 0 and one. Probably the best one we have seen. Throwing it where he wanted to have a nice tight spin to it and a teaser just off the edge of the plate. towards first and he takes it himself for the out. Up next for the Marlins, right fielder Kyle Sters. Two down, base is empty. And next will be the cleanup hitter Kyle Sters. He’s already homerred here in this one. down the middle for a strike. One and one. And that’s downstairs and outside. One ball, one strike to the right side. Contrarus gets it to first and that’ll do it. Miami down in order, but they still lead it one- nothing. Bottom of the fourth and stepping in for the Cardinals, Alec Burlson. Alec Burles on the ground right side and he can’t come up with it. Still manages a throw. He beats the throw. He’s in safely. And now there’s a runner at first. Here’s Contrarus. Now that breaking ball drops in for a strike. He’s pitching well, but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes. Usually doesn’t work out for success, but you can never predict baseball. kicks and deals and a sling and a miss. He picks up his fifth strike out on the hill. So now it’s Dolan Aronado walked his first time. No way. Definitely wants to stay out of the double play here. Ball on the ground in the infield. Should be an inning ending double play. And that one clips the corner. Burlson leads off first with one away. Fought off foul. That one not close. One and two to count. And that’s in the dirt. That misses the zone and a full countdown. Following this count, runner not known for his speed, but I think you got to put him in motion. Try to avoid a double play here, boo. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. Well, interesting. and he’s looking very comfortable out of the stretch after giving up the lead off single. Backto- back strike out. So, they haven’t been able to move that runner up, get him into scoring position to try to have a better chance of scoring. I tell you, good job so far on the mound. He just needs one more out. Now up for St. Louis. Mason Win one for one with a single so far. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Counts one and0. Tying run is at first. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. That one hit to right. Sters snags it and the inning is over. So one left for the Cardinals. They still trail one- nothing. back here in St. Louis. Now it’s the shortstop Lopez. Lopez, that one missed. You know, these Marlins digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they’re taking. They’ve hit seven line drives already, and even though some of them have been for outs, there’s nothing wrong with delivering consistent hard contact, that’s almost always going to lead to positive results. Good job to fight that one off. No, there’s a pitch we haven’t seen in a while. It’s going to be tough on the hitters if he can mix that in whenever he wants. Got it. That K is his third of the game. Really love the pitch sequence right there. I’m telling you what, pitcher and catcher on the same page right now. Liam Hicks getting ready to hit. Fly to center. His first time. He’s 0 for one. That one catches the zone. Strike one. swings through that one for strike two. No ball. Base is empty. One away. And we’re in the top of the fifth. Next offering is downstairs outside corner. Got him looking well. Just a great job of playing catch with the catcher. Exactly where the catcher set up is where he threw that pitch. Probably fooled the umpire a little bit because there was no budge at all. And here is Ariberto Hernandez. He’s 0 for one. That’s down and in. That’s a ball. Ball one. No strike. Come on, St. Louis. Yep, that ball went out. And now two and one. Nasty two slider there for a strike. That tells you he’s got a lot of confidence in that pitch. Strike two. breaking ball misses down and away outside and that is ball four. One of the things about that two out walk, the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. That one pushed to the left and fouled. Two outs. Swing and that ball smashed on a line and that gets down into the gap. Coming home. He’ll score. He was all over that one. Put a pretty good jolt into that one. Great swing, nice balance and weight transfer. And he got it to drop in out there in the deep part of the field. So runner at second, two down. Dane Meyers the next up for the Marlins. Flying the other way. That’s a fair ball and down the right field line and towards that corner. They extend their lead as the runner scores from second. It’s an RBI single and they lead by three. Oh, that started ending pretty quickly. No messing around right there. First pitch fast ball in a great spot to do some damage and he squared it up nicely. Xavier Edwards gets a chance to hit here. Go for two in this one. Here’s the pitch. Runner on the go. There’s a ball throw there. He’s safe. Safe. Well, he’s got a cannon of an arm back there behind the dish. A good accurate throw is just as important in controlling the running game. So, maybe rushed his throw a little bit right there. Didn’t finish it off. It was high and I think that’s what allowed the base runner to make it safely. out to center and that’s the third out. They put two on the board with a couple of hits, no errors and one left. Last half of the fifth coming up, it’s the Marlins three and the Cardinals nothing. We head to the bottom of the fifth and now Jordan Walker after scoring runs. This is where you’re looking for that shutdown inning. get that hot team back in there to swing the bats. Just missed. You know, these Cardinals need to bring up the quality of their bats and specifically their swings. They’re trying to find ways to drive the ball with some authority, but it’s just not happening for him so far. Zero extra base hits in the game, so it’s been tough for him to get anything going. Next offering in there for a strike and it’s two and one swing and a ball driven out to center. Meyers reaching back towards the wall, leaping and he makes the grab. Man, Boo, I love watching an outfielder take on the wall to make that play. And it’s a lot easier to watch from up here because that can be painful in the end. You know, the wall’s coming up on you quickly. So, you have to maintain concentration in able to make that catch and hold on to it after contact. Pes in the box here lets that one go for a ball. Well, the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there, have a real quick inning, get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot. Swinging a foul out of play. The Cards trailing by three. Last half of inning number five. Popped up foul territory behind the plate. Ramirez makes the grab for the second out. Sometimes you have to keep chipping away until you break through, but it’s a lot easier to put runs on the board when you have guys in scoring position because they put themselves there. Two outs, base is empty, Victor Scott. Next up for the Cardinals and the first pitch misses for ball one. Oh, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. Looking sharp just a strike away from five shutout innings. The one two foul ball left side. He’ll see another two down on that. That one misses. Full count. Three and two. The 3-2 is outside and it’s ball four. Oh, he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Hitter didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. Now it’s the second base, Brendan Donovan. in the air left field. Hernandez under it and that is that. The Cards leave one. Still down three nothing. We’re back and they make a change to start the six. The new pitcher, Sunny Gray. Pretty tight game, so they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. And now here’s the Marlins DH Jesus Sanchez. late on that fast ball. Action in the pen down there. Phil Mod, the veteran right-hander, appears to be loosening up. Palante getting loose as well. That one pushed foul out of play off to the left. The O2 swing get a ball popped up. Win makes the catch for the out. And there’s one down. Now batting number 50. Augustine Ramirez. The next up for the Marlins. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Out to short on to first. Two quick outs to open the top of the six. Now batting right fielder Kyle Sters. Two down, base is empty. Kyle Sters, the next up for the Marlins. He’s already homerred in this game. First pitch misses. Slashes this one and it could be trouble. And that’s going to get into the corner around first and hustling for second. in safely. It’s a double and his second hit. Everything came together for him. That was a thing of beauty. He may have been a little behind the pitch, but by getting that barrel into the hitting zone early on in his swing, he was able to meet it and still shoot a line drive down the line and left. So, runner at second, two down. And up next for Miami, Otto Lopez, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. That one misses. Ball one. Runner at second. Two down. And we’re in the top half of the six. And a foul ball. And that one fouled off. Man on second. Two down. That one just misses. Two balls, two strikes. Two balls, two strikes. popped up to the left into foul ground and Aronado makes the catch. Marlins leave one, but they lead it three nothing. Back here in St. Louis, well, we go bottom six now. It’s the DH. Ivon Herrera. Perez back to work down the line. Sters long run on his horse. Won’t get to this one. It drops. Foul. And there’s a rocket into the outfield around first heading for two. And he’s there with a leadoff double. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Here’s the left fielder, Alec Burlson. Inside and that’s ball one. That’s through there for a strike. Tonight, his slider has been really impressive. I mean, tight spin. Seems like the hitters aren’t picking it up out of the hand. That one is upstairs. Perr stands at second with no outs. outside. They’re now three and one. Get ready for some action here. Good RBI guy at the plate. Runners in scoring position and a hitter count. Man at second. Swing and a pop off in foul ground. Paulie makes the grab. One down. Now batting first baseman Wilson control. Now the Marlins manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. Yuri Perez departs and a nice effort out of him. No doubt. New arm coming on. We’ll be back for that in a moment. Now pitching for Quantrol gets the ball now. Still a lot of game left and this game could go either way. So, this is a big opportunity for him to get some important outs and try to help carry this lead into the later innings. And up to hit is Wilson Contrarus. Struck out on just three pitches last time. Fouled off. He was late. on the ground to third. Tosses to first and Contrarus is retired. Now batting third base Nolan. Here’s Nolan Aronado. He is struck out and he is walked. Here’s a rip to short, but he’s there for the third out. Now pitching. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, Jojo Romero. And we all know about his slider. It’s just filthy, man. And one of the better ones in the game, I’d say. Spin rate’s very high and it just breaks a ton. And now first base Liam Hicks and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Well, that’s really the money spot down and away. If you can locate that consistently, it’s going to be real tough for hitters to square that off. That’s what you love to see relievers do coming out of that bullpen. Next offering is in for a strike. That pitch started in and ended up on the outside edge. Just changing planes and very difficult especially for a left-handed hitter to track. That misses and it’s one and two. 02 pitch that far out of the zone gives the hitter a little confidence that maybe he can climb back into this at bat. That one in the dirt. The countdown two and two and downstairs out to short. Quinn whips it across. That’s the first out. The top of the seventh. Good armside run and sink on that pitch right there. Got inside on him and got him to bounce into that out. Ariberto Hernandez will hit next. He’s 0 for one. Romero 28 years old and he was drafted in the fourth round back in 2016. There’s the strike. 95 of that one. Out to short. Win zips it to first and two away to start the seven. Now batting third baseman Graham Paulie. Two outs. Base is empty. The batter now Graham Paulie and that one fouled off. Two down, nobody on here in the top half of inning number seven. Ground ball up the middle and that one finds its way through. Now batting the center fielder Dane Meyers. So a man aboard. Here’s the center fielder Dane Meyers. Little bit low. And that is ball one. And they’re swinging a miss. One and one. Two balls, one strike. splits the plate and that’s strike two. And that one hit to first. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. One left for Miami, but they lead it three nothing. Back here at Bush Stadium, set for the last half of the seven. And stepping in for the Cardinals, Mason Win. Ball one and a pitch inside. out to short and he beats the throw. Shows off the wheels right there. An infield single. Boom. That’s staying within his game right there. I mean, this speedster gets the infield single and now he’s on base to possibly do some damage. I love seeing what guys like this can do to disrupt the game once they get in a position to do so. And up next for St. Louis, Jordan Walker. Foul ball there. Now, this team is definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But, you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. Up the middle, lays out, but he can’t squeeze it. No throw. And they come away without an out. Two consecutive base hits for these guys here. Now let’s see if they can string something together, make it a little more interesting. Pedro Pah. Next up for the Cardinals. He’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level. For him right now at the plate, it’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed. That one finds the zone and that’s strike one. Oh, in this situation with runners on, you got to get ahead in the count so that you can dictate the rest of the at bat. Nice job right there. Tying run at the plate on the ground. Two ball. Here’s Lopez for one. Back to first. And that is a double play. Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. Center fielder Victor Scott the second. And now the center fielder Victor Scott flying drive and that’s a base hit into center field in to score is the runner from third and it’s an RBI single. It’s 3-1. Didn’t take long to get a result for that at bat. Other than ripping one into the gap or blasting one over the wall, there aren’t a whole lot of hits that are more satisfying than a nice line drive into center field. So, that definitely felt good. And now, let’s see if they force some action with good wheels on the bases. Now at the plate, Brendan Donovan. That’s ripped. And this one could be extra bases. Brown’s third headed for the plate. He’ll score easily. Just so sound in his mechanics. Hits against a firm front side and the hands just continue to carry through the middle of the field. Manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. That’s it for Calantrol and he’s responsible for the runner on second. So the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. Now pitching for pitching change here. Freddy Turner. These are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves. Late and close. There’s not much margin for error, but at the same time, there’s a reason they’re put in these situations. So now here’s the Cardinals designated hitter, Ivon Herrera. one for three. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Counts one and0. Trying to hold a one-run lead near the bottom of the seventh. That clips the inside corner for a strike. One and one. That’s off the inside corner and it’s two and one. You don’t want to get beat by a fast ball end and he spits on that one and misses inside. That does feel like he’s frustrated a little bit. He wants to be challenged. Alec Burlson in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. So the tying run at second and boy that was the pitch. 3-1. You want to be really aggressive on the fast ball. Got him. Outside pitch got the better of him that time. So, two runs, four hits, no errors, and one man left. We look ahead to inning number eight. It’s the Marlins three and the Cardinals two. Welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. John King should be a good first match up for him here. He’s been doing a great job against right-handed bats so far this season. They’ve had a lot of trouble squaring him up. King back to the top of the order now. Xavier Edwards digs in now 0 for three in this one. That’s in for a strike. Movement in the bullpen. Andre Grano getting ready to go. Palante also throwing swing and a ground ball out to short. Win throws across the diamond. First out in the top of the eighth. Oh, we talk about how the ball is coming out of a pitcher’s hand. The way it comes out of his hand as an infielder. Wow. Really impressive. And at the plate for Miami, Jesus Sanchez and first offering is fouled off. There’s the strike. on the ground to first tosses to the pitcher covering the bag. Two up, two down here in the top of the eighth. Now batting number 15. Two down. Base is empty. Now a chance for Augustine Ramirez. Right back to him on the mound. Marlins set down in order and the Marlins down quietly and it remains a 3-2 ball game. And we’re back now. The leftielder Alec Burlson. Left fielder Alec Burlington. Right through there for a strike. That was a close rule to ball and one and one. Homeplayed umpires trying to tighten things up a little bit. Close one doesn’t get the call and a count two and one. Good spot there, but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone. Looking to get the tying run on base, line drive, base hit. Well, that was one of those high percentage advantage counts where batting averages are just so much higher. You’ll often hear the phrase short to it, long through it. And that’s a great example of it right there. Got the barrel in the hitting zone early, squirted up with a rough time and came away with a beautiful line drive into center field. Substitution being made at first and pinch running for St. Louis. Garrett Hson. No outs. Runner at first. And now the first baseman, Wilson Contra. Fast ball for a strike. 0 and one. Pure base runner. You got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get in the scoring position. Next offering is in for a strike with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. Next one is off the plate now. One and two. Strike three. Got him looking on the change up. Now batting. Here’s Nolan Aronado. Pretty good speed over there at first base. I think the pitcher’s got to slow everything down. Hold the ball a little bit. Step off. Just try to break the rhythm and timing of a potential base stealer. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. One and0 with the go ahead run at the plate here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. Now one and a one late with the swing there. I think he was sitting off speed there. One ball, two straight. That’s way outside and it’s to a two. Hampson leads off first with one away. Check on the runner. Hson dives back in safely. He’s got plus speed, but in this situation, all eyes are going to be over there trying to keep his lead tight. Two two keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. Man at first, one away. Spoils that one and it remains two and two. His eyes got big. He saw that change up way out in front. Better to pull it than to get jammed on something off speed like that. Runner on the go. Pitch outside. At this point in the game, you cannot issue free passes. He’s going to have to challenge this hitter. Hitter’s got to be ready to swing it. Mason win in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Swung on. Beltu on the move. Racing back. Makes the catch gliding onto the warning track. Up next for the Cardinals. The shortstop. Mason. Mason win. Next up for the Cardinals. And Chris, what about the stolen base to try and get the tying run into scoring position? It’s definitely in play and you want to see it early in this count. Hit softly on the ground to third and it’s just fouled. That was close. Two outs. This one high in the air to left center. He’s got it. And that is the inning. So one left for the Cardinals. They trail it 3-2. And welcome back to the ballpark. New inning getting started. Here’s the cleanup hitter for Miami. Kyle Sters. King back to work. Sters checks his swing. Appeal to third and James Kingsley says he won around. hit in the air. Center field. Scott makes the grab. One away. Now batting shortstop Otto Lopez. And now for the Marlins. Otto Lopez. You can do it. You can do it. First pitch and he just misses. Activity in the bullpen. Andre Palante appears to be getting loose. Mahon getting cranked up as well. Next offering is fouled back. Crowd locked in right now. One-run game here in the ninth. The one-1 is fouled off. Breaking ball misses down and away. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming and that’s down and away. got him looking and two away now. Third time he struck out in this one and definitely an individual performance you want to flush. He just hasn’t looked very comfortable up there. Just one of those days. But when you’re still winning the ball game, at least you can focus on doing your part to maintain that lead and getting that W on the ground to the left and the inning is over. Offense held in check there. Bottom part of the order. 789. Two up in inning number nine. It’s the Marlins three and the Cardinals two. Jay Woodward on to try and close it out. A chance at his first save of the year. Number two. And the batter now, Jordan Walker. What are you looking to do in these spots? You’re down a run. You’re leading off the inning. He’s not a power hitter. A guy that’s looking to tie it up with one swing. So, he’s going to take and get into this at bat and try to get deep into the bat. Ultimately, however he can get to first base. Not close with that one. And the count even one and one. Yeah, there’s a ball line drive and this might be trouble and it’s off the wall and the tying runs at second base with a double. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Pedro Pos next up for the Cardinals. Left field. Hernandez sizes this one up, brings it in, and there’s one down. Up next for the Cardinals, center fielder, Victor Scott. I He’s two outs away. Victor Scott now at the plate. You got the number nine hole hitter right here looking to do whatever he can to get on base, turn this lineup over so the best hitters in this lineup have a chance to tie up the ball game or maybe even walk it off. And that finds the mark on the outside corner. And it’s a one. So the tying run at second. Base hit center field. Walker is waved. the throw in, but it’s offline. He will score. It’s 3-3. Huge moment for him and his team who, you know, some guys just grip it a bit too tight in a big spot like this, having a chance to tie it up in the bottom of the ninth. But he didn’t let the moment get to him. Comes up with the RBI knock and now he’s giving his teammates a chance to walk this thing off with the win if they can push across another run. Woodward keeping an eye on him. Now it’s going to be Brendan Donovan. Save at second with a stolen base and the winning run is now in scoring position. Chris is wheels with a difference maker on that play. Just got in there. Yeah, with Statcast’s help, we see his top speed on this stolen base and that’s a big number. I mean, man, he really made his athleticism work for him on that one. swing and a miss. From a pitcher’s perspective, that’s a beautiful splitter right there. As a hitter, you don’t like it, but he’s commanded his fast ball and out of that same tunnel, that splitter comes and the bottom just falls out of it. Well, if he’s going to do something special right here, it’s going to have to happen with two strikes. The winning run on second base. Line drive. That’s a base hit heading for the plate. Here’s the throw. The winning run crosses the plate and the Cardinals walk it off and win it 4-3. Well, you come into the ninth inning down first. You’re looking to tie it. They did that, but then they got the extra to put themselves on top. These players knew exactly what it was going to take to win this ball game. I love it when you see a team find a way to win, and that’s what they did today. And the final score here, 43 for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami saying so long Double move.
