Phillies vs. White Sox Game Highlights (7/30/25) | MLB Highlights

We have waited through a long delay, but we will get this one started. It’s the rubber match this afternoon from Rate Field as the White Socks host the Philadelphia Phillies. The delay is going to be almost 4 hours, which I guess that’s better than what we were originally told. Tyler Alexander was announced as the starting pitcher for the White Socks prior to the original start time today because uh there’s reports that Adrien Howser, the the starting pitcher, is going to get dealt by the White Sox. They haven’t officially announced that. They haven’t made a trade though. There’s a swing and a bounty ball to short charged by Montgomery and he fires on the move to get Turner at first base. That’ll bring up Kyle Schwarber. His 37th home run early in the game last night. If he does get one more RBI, he’d become the first Philly with 30 RBI’s or more in a single month since Ryan Howard had 33. Wow. In August of 2009. Schwarber pops another up sky high. Carol tosses the mask. Vargas over the rail and Miguel hauls it in in enemy territory. A good catch. This is what they consider a major league popup. This is up there for close to a week and a half, I believe. Vargas comes over with just enough room and retires a pretty good hitter in Schwarber. Nice to see him retired without hitting the ball in the field of play and Harper lines to center field and it’s caught. It’s cradled by Robert right in the midsection and he ended up down on his knees. Looked like it was knuckling all the way to him. A nice catch. Couple of nice defensive plays and the Phillies do not score. Walker’s numbers 11 starts so far. Three and five. He’s two and four as a starter. A 3.88 88 RA coming off his longest start five and two. There’s a base hit to left. Mike Tman with a leadoff single picked up by Brandon Marsh on a bounce. Here comes Chase Maid. Runner goes pitch in the air. Shallow right center field. Rojos is under it and he makes the catch. Taiwan’s not going to be a big strikeout guy. In fact, this last game he had a ton of balls put in play. He also got a ton of outs. So he really by working quicker and filling the zone, he’s been using his defense. A fly ball to right by Benendi. Hit straight away and right at Castianos. He’ll make the catch. Fly ball down the right field line. Castanos toward the line in foul territory. He’s got it and the inning is over. Bottom two. Kyle Teal dhing today. Walker gave up a single but no runs in the first. Nothing. Nothing. Bottom two. This one ripped high and deep to right. Castanos back and it is gone. Kyle Teal wastes no time. His second big league home run and the Socks lead one- nothing. He got what appeared to be a fast ball that was up and out over the plate and hit a line drive. Rocket that barely cleared, but it was hit awfully hard. Is that supposed to be a cutter? It’s a cutter. Didn’t cut. Pretty aggressive effort out there in the stands with jumping over the rail and Luis Roberts contract runs out this year. There is there are two options. There are two team options for next year and the year after. And in the last 10 games, you can see why some teams are starting to get a little more interested. Robert hits another one hard. This one to left off the wall. Robert will put the brakes on around first. He hit it too hard. That ball absolutely scorched. 111. And he crushes this one. The problem is it’s not quite high enough. Marsh does a nice job of not getting trapped too close to the fence. Want to make sure you’ve got some room when the ball inevitably comes back to you and he bare hands it. Gets it back in holding Luis to a single. He goes, he got a good jump. Maran’s throw. It’s a beauty in time. Robert says, “Take a look at it.” The throw definitely beat him. That’s a heck of a throw by Raphael. No, they’re not. Surprised? Yeah. Maybe they don’t want to waste it this early, Tom, with his big lead. Here’s Josh Rojos. Two outs and a man at second. Popped in the air to right and waiting on it is Castianos moving to his left. He’ll make the grab and the sides retired. Some hard hit balls, however, in this second inning, including a home run by Kyle Teal. Second time through the order for the Phillies against Tyler Alexander, the spot starter for the White Socks, who’s gone three innings so far, has allowed one base runner. So, one up and one down. Now it’s Bryce Harper. line drive down the right field line. That’s going to be in for a base hit. It kicks up some chalk. They avoid the security guard and Harper’s going to go to second and Rice is in scoring position. First hit of the day for the Phils. Caught that change up off the end of the bat, but he’s so dang strong. Get it down the line there and keep it fair. Here’s Nick Castianos. And it looks like they stay with Alexander here who’s just given up his first hit of the game. Phillies in a man to second base for the first time. There was a line drive base hit it to left center field. Harper’s around third. He’s heading home. It’s an RBI single for Castianos. We’re tied up at one. Nice piece of hitting by Nick, though. Gets out gets out front of it, but we talk about all the time his length. No chance to get Bryce at home. Brand new ball game, Tom. Yep. I think this got to be Alexander’s last guy. They keep him in to face the lefty. And Marsh bounces one through the hole on the right side. A base hit. Castanos is around second. He’ll hold up there. It’ll be first and second with one out. Three straight hits. And here comes Will Venal. And it is Mike Vassel who comes on for the 29th time. He’s been very good. Erra below two and a half. Like most sinker ballers, you throw a lot of ground balls. And if you do that here with Kemp, it’s going to be two and out of the inning. Back toward the middle. That’s going to leak into center field. A base hit. Rounding third. Heading for home is Castanos. And Kemp has an RBI single. And the Phillies have taken a two to one lead. Damn, this is getting fun, huh? Four in a row. Coulson Montgomery lined out hard to right field. His first time up on looking for his first one, two, three inning. Montgomery fires one into left center. And this is good enough to clear him. Oppo Taco for Coulson Montgomery and the Socks have tied it up. How about the rookies today? Teal and Montgomery. That just looked like a line drive when it left the bat that might be run down by Marsh. Then it just kept going and going and going. Gone. Oh, that plunked him good. Headed straight for him. No chance for My drop to get out of the way and he is in a good deal of pain. It looked like it got him in the top hand. And now Ben and Tendy will walk up to the plate. Chance here to take the lead once again. Two on, one down. Snapped around to first. My drop back into the bag. It gets loose and down the right field line. Tman will be waved around third. The throw from Castillianos. Not in time. And the socks get one. But the home plate umpire is calling it off. Maron fired down the right field line and he airma mailed it and it might have scored two runs but immediately the home plate umpire Clint Bondrach was waving his arms. Oh, it was the umpire. Hit the umpire. Who would have thought the umpires would help us out. Popped up. Kemp and Turner are over there. Trey makes the call and he makes the catch and the inning is over. So the home plate umpire interference certainly helps. Rojos was ready for it. Right down the middle, thigh high and he barreled it up. Got a great result. Picks up his ninth double. Mike Tman now. Yeah. Got to get him over. Got to get him in. And he lines one to center field. That’ll be in for a base hit. Rojos is around third heading for home. Here’s the throw to the plate from Rohos in center. He is out at home plates. Maron blocked the plates. What a tremendous pick up and throw to the plate by Johan. Here’s Lenin Sosa who is a hot hitter. His first at bat of the day. Off the end of the bat, dunked into right. They’ll try it again. Gersley waves Tauman. Castanos. That throw gets cut off and this time the Socks pull ahead. 3-2 as Tauman scores and Lenin comes through. So, one in to take the lead and they still have runners at first and second. One out. The batter Vargas. He’s 0 for three. Miguel Vargas deep fly ball to left. Mars backing out of room. Another home run for the White Socks. Miguel Vargas a threerun shot. Probably should have used that curve ball again because that sneaky fastball did not work. He got all of it and indeed has joined the hit parade. Miguel Vargas with his 13th. Some big insurance. It’s six-2. Seth Johnson will take over. And the White Socks with four home here this frame. Lead six-2. They’ve got Teal at second. Roberts at first. Carol will bat. The one two sent out to left. Marsh on his horse. And this will go. Edgar Carol rides it out to left. The Socks have poured it on in the seventh. The second three-run homer in the inning. It’s nine to two. Schwarber frustrated with the 0 for four. Isert’s got one more to get. And it’s Bryce Harper. Harper out to left. Back to the wall. A leap and he made the catch. Ben Tendy brought it back. Harper sent him to the wall, but Ben and Tendy went to get it. Here’s Brandon Marsh. That one’s hooked out to right field. Hit well. Tman is back. Out to the wall. He climbs it. It’s gone. And Marsh is homered for a second straight game. And it’s now 93 ball game. I feel like that the ball has carried so much better to right field here this three days than the anything hit to left. So first and second for Marchon. That one popped up left side. Rohos in foul ground and there it is a White Socks winner. They beat the Phillies taking two out of three in the series. They are playing their best baseball.
